Does the Galaxy Note work with Tmobile's data? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does it work with 4g or even 3g that well? I saw that the Note and Tmobile both use 2100MHz for their frequency, but I wanted to see if someone here on Tmobile USA could actually confirm that it was working with fast data speeds. This will be a deciding factor on me purchasing this phone, which I am planning on so far.

The note is missing the 1700 MHz to work on tmobile USA. Tmobile USA needs 1700 and 2100. So 2g only only on tmobile USA.

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that it only needed one of the two frequencies in order to work.

The Galaxy Note will work with voice and 2G data(edge) But not 3G or 4G Data.

It needs both.

I make Note work on high speed data and phone
I have the Galaxy Note. You will not get any data on the Note if you put it on T-mobile. HOWEVER, I have a wifi at my home office and so there I get both. So, I took my Galaxy s 4g and put it on a data plan with t-mobile and since it's been rooted, get the hot spot feature and that sends the data to the Note at very high speeds. I used the inexpensive resellers so the price is more than $50 for both but it's a lot less than paying for T-mobile direct for a sim card for the Note and a hot spot device and data service for hot spot device.
Once you've done this you can wifi the data over or I believe even set up the bluetooth to transfer the data at high speeds. Before that, I got NO data, not even edge. So, this is a life saver and I pay about $70 for all, including taxes, ect for unlimited everything. I don't think you'll like the Note with only Edge or no data at all since it does so many things, then you might as well just get a dial phone without the high speed data.

I only get edge eventhough i pay 4g. .. That sucks

Only the at&t version can be hacked to work on t-mobile 4g network. Best you can expect with international version is edge
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

As others have said, the international note works on T-Mobile's edge only.
I didn't need to change any apn settings when I got it. Just put in my T-Mobile sim card and edge worked out of the box. Though I keep experiencing intermittent signal drops until I flashed the latest LC1 firmware. I'm very happy with it now.
I get anywhere between nonexistent (hilly suburbs) to 206 kbps down and 118 kbps up in the Seattle - Tacoma area.

Funny, that's faster then what I've getting on Sprint's 3G for the past year.

if you bought yours on 1saleaday that att work around wont work and doesnt let the note read your sim card. I had to flash to stock N7000XXLA4_N7000OXALA_DBT just to get cell coverage.
EDIT: figured out how to get it to work. Just follow the steps and you will have data

[Q] Can't get 3G working Help please!

So I just got this brand new beauty and I can't get 3G working for T-Mobile US. T-Mobile US works on the 1700/2100 band. The ebay listing and the LG website also confirm it but the box only mentions (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 WCDMA 900/1900/2100). Any ideas? Below are my APN settings.
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

It's not gonna work, my OB only worked on EDGE in the US. It had 3G everywhere in Europe. Unfortunately I permanently bricked it, and sent it back to Europe for repair. I don't think I'll be going back to the OB until it gets support in the US.

[Q] Galaxy Note network speed issue with Rogers

I bought my Galaxy Note in Korea and brought to Canada to use it here...

BUT DIDN'T HELP AT ALL.. (I have tried most combination but didn't work)
It takes 1-3 minutes to load one website.....
If anyone knows how to fix this I will call you god!!
I'm not entirely sure whether or not Rogers supports fast dormancy on their network, but it's a feature which is enabled on the Note by default. Down here in the states, people have been seeing significant network performance improvements by disabling this feature, as AT&T does not support it anyway.
You can disable fast dormancy by entering *#*#9900#*#* from your dialer and make sure the fast dormancy option is set to "Disabled"
Let me know if that works!
P.S. What type of connection are you picking up when you're getting those speeds btw? EDGE (E), UMTS (3G), HSPA+ (H, or H+)?
Thanks Jade but when I punched in *#*#9900#*#* it didn't do anything.. later I found that it is *#9900# for Galaxy note..
Once I got into this Sysdump menu I couldn't see fast dormancy option.. please see the screen shot.
I don't know where this fast dormancy menu is hidden for Galaxy note...
And you may also find from the screen shot it says "G" for the data signal..
Your sysdump seems weird... *#*#9900#*#* has worked for everyone else here that I've recommended about the fast dormancy issue.
The other thing is that the "G" in your signal indicates that you're only connecting at GPRS speed, which is in fact slower than dial-up. Perhaps there's a different APN for 3G/HSPA?
Another thought just came to mind as well... You said you got your Note from Korea right? Is there a Qualcomm sticker anywhere on your device? From what I understand, the Note available in Korea is a totally different device from a hardware perspective. It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset instead of Samsung's own Exynos for the LTE functionality. It may even be possible that the Korean version doesn't even support 3G frequencies outside what's used over there... That being the case, ouch dude, that sucks...
I've included a pic from my device for what the menu should look like after inputting *#*#9900#*#*
P.S. Just realized that you made no mention of Korea, so I have no idea where that came from lol!

He says in the first line of his post that he bought it in Korea. I think you may be right - the Korean version is the LTE/Snapdragon version. It may not be quad-band UMTS/HSPA capable.
This story seems to imply that the Korean version does not have all international 3G bands:
http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/lte-samsung-galaxy-note-isnt-welcome-in-korea-62212571.htm
Edit: reading the story again, it seems to say that 3G is locked out in the firmware on the Korean Note.
I just purchased one in London and the fast dormancy is disabled by default; will be using on ROGERS at YVR before I move to Calgary on the 2nd January. I will post if I get the "normal" speeds.
Update: works great on ROGERS

Is'nt the 10.128.1."69" not "169"?
Thank you all for the kind responses
I have found what the problem is... Korean Galaxy note supports WCDMA, GSM, and LTE
Unfortunately there is no WCDMA carrier in Canada so I had to go with Rogers.
Korean Galaxy note does supports GSM but preset to use only 900Mhz, 1800Mhz, and 1900Mhz. Rogers uses 850Mhz (for 3G) and 1900Mhz (for 2G)... Since my Note does not have 850Mhz option it automatically uses 1900Mhz which is 2G frequency this was why I can only have 40kbps speed for the data..
I could go with LTE but Rogers uses 700Mhz frequency and my device is set to 1800Mhz for LTE (because Korean carrier uses 1800Mhz for LTE)
My only hope is to find out how to change (if there is any way) this frequency setting softwarecally(not even a word but hope you understand what I mean) say... 900Mhz to 850Mhz without any hardware change
Does anyone know how to do that??

Suggestion: Get rid of the Korean/LTE Note. Buy the international/HSPA+ Note instead. Enjoy!
Sorry if that seems curt, but honestly, the problem you are trying to fix here with the LTE Note is more trouble than it's worth, especially when the problem is already solved in the other version of the device. No offence, but you really ought to buy equipment which is most compatible for the area(s) you plan to spend most of your time. So, if you spend the majority of your time in Korea, then I guess stick with what you've got, and just use WiFi (when you can) while in Canada. However, if you just picked up this device while you were visiting Korea or something, and Canada is your home country, then yeah, I'd get rid of that Korean LTE version quicker than a hot potato. Plus the international Note should work just fine back in Korea anyway, albeit minus LTE, but who cares? As far as I know, there's no unlimited data for LTE in Korea anyway, so what's the point in having all that extra speed when all it really means is that you're only going to crash into a wall that much faster?
Good luck!
no wcdma carrier in Canada?
I thought those new mobile companies used wcdma. Wind mobile and mobilicity - they should be able to work with the korean note, shouldn't they?
does the korean note have wcdma in 1700 and 2100 bands? that's what Wind uses.

Straight talk nexus 4

I got n4 today.I have straight talk with my nexus 4. I already had att sim. I got average speed of 5mb down and 1-.1.5 up. I know tmobile is suppose to be faster hpsa+ network. I've been with tmobile and att the speeds where i live and they are close to same for me. I bought tmobile sim just to see. I averaging 12-14 mb down and 2-3.5 mb up. I would recommend if go straight talk route get tmobile if you can. Check your coverage but tmobile is faster I live in a medium size market.

How u get a Straight Talk T-Mobile micro sim card??
Im on straight talk att and it works for what I need. T mobile really doesn't have anything out side of the interstate here in Kentucky.
Don't see that changing anytime soon.

T-Mobile has a better HSDPA network in urban areas, but based on many years with both carriers it is safe to say AT&T has a wider 3G coverage and better signal penetration in buildings.
I'm on Straight Talk using At&t sim and will be trying T-Mobile sim next.
Only complaint that I've had is once in a while I get an "access forbidden "message while using the web. I've researched it and have found no answer.

That sounds like a reason not to sign up with Solavei at all, not a reason to sign up with them quickly.
Also there's the fact that it's a pyramid scheme.
Dumb question here....
By trying out T-Mobile with Straight Talk and the N4 ... after cutting the SIM card it will automatically enable up to HSPA 42 speeds?(based on network connection)

Make sure your APN settings are correct, and then yes, you should get HSPA 42 when in available areas.
I've been on ST on my Atrix for a few months and don't have any complaints. TMobile's coverage map only shows 2g in my area or I would give that a try. Data speeds aren't the best but the money I save over ATT is incredible. I usually pull 2.5-3.5 mbps down and 1.0-1.5 mbps up. Speedtests can be a little funky because ST proxies all traffic through Chicago.
I'm also using straight talk and until last night, my speeds were just horrible ( 0.25 Mbps ) but then I called them an they reset my data settings. Now I pull between 2mb -5 mbps. :winning:

Remove the proxy from your APN. Solves this and for most it seems like the chance of throttling goes down.

Toggle airplane mode instead of reboot. You can also leave Proxy blank.

Um, if you want prepaid on T-Mobile, why not just get their prepaid plan? Its only 100 minutes, but you also get 3 GB more data for only $30 a month

Xperia V Download Speeds (US)

I recently acquired a Sony Xperia V (LT25i) that I am presently using on AT&T's prepaid mobile service in north Las Vegas, NV.
Tests conducted on stock (unrooted) Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Build number is stock 9.0.D.0.484.
Signal strength during tests was roughly -75dBm 21asu.
Mobile network type is listed as HSPA (with the status bar indicator occasionally displaying an H+ signal for a few seconds).
APN configured to wap.cingular (AT&T's GoPhone and MediaNet mobile web service).
Servers pinged were Tijuana and Las Vegas.
The attached pictures show internet connection tests using the SpeedTest android app. The first, showing no download speeds, is misleading because I do have data, though apparently the SpeedTest app doesn't like the proxy being set to wireless.cingular.com. The second shows my speeds after removing the proxy setting. Though it seems as though my actual data speeds are the same with and without the proxy. I'll be all right without it, I think.
Either the phone or my SIM card were not capable of picking up AT&T's LTE service, regardless of my service plan. I also don't know whether AT&T uses Band 17 (700 MHz) or Band 4 (AWS) in Las Vegas for LTE.
The Xperia V supports LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, and 20. None of which are currently deployed throughout the United States. I've theorized over at howardforums that a device that supports bands 1 and 3 (like the LT25i or the CDMA A1429) would be able to connect to Band 4, but I have no experience in this matter.
If anyone else is using this phone in the United States (especially with LTE service) I'd love to hear from you!

If the phone can pick up ATT LTE, which I doubt, you still need a compatible sim card and apn settings.
Also, the ping in those tests are really high, even for the cingular apn.
Let me post external links please, already!

Correct, mrdommike, the apn settings for AT&T's LTE are different than the settings used for their prepaid service. AT&T does not presently support LTE on their prepaid plans.
Also, I agree, that the ping seems rather high. (Say, 3 to 5 times as high as it should be.) Not sure what to do about that, though. Maybe part of the reason is because the phone can't pick up AT&T's 1900 Mhz 3G band, and can only use the 850 Mhz 3G band in the U.S?

Also, datagubben, the Sony Xperia V did not garner a stateside release. There is no AT&T-specific LT25a model, or any other model designed for primary use in the U.S.
That said, though it's still fresh, I have actually been quite pleased with the device's reception and service here in Las Vegas. There was a bit of a kerfuffle during New Year's Eve, but I never lost signal, and I imagine the calls and texts that went through so late were due to the excessive strain on the cellular networks. It remains to be seen how great the service will be at its main base of operation in San Jose.
Over here in the greater NYC and CT area, my V picks up HDSP+ signal pretty well too. Get downstream speeds up to 7mbps. I'm on the GoPhone plan as well, using the APN settings as described above.
LTE will definitely not work on the V, it doesn't support any LTE band used in the US.

Hey gftgy after looking at your apn, I think you should delete port 80 off the apn settings below the proxy setting. I have an unlocked arc s also with the cingular apn and I'm getting around 150-180ms ping. The only difference between yours and my settting is that port 80.

Quoting the white paper available from http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-v/specifications/ for free and without registration:
UMTS HSPA+: 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 2100 (Band I)
GSM EDGE: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
LTE: Band I, Band III, Band V, Band VII and Band XX
Contact your carrier for the frequencies they use.
AT&T, to my knowledge, runs 3G on 850/1900 MHz bands, where 850 is mostly used in rural areas and is also usually congested. AT&T's LTE network runs on 700 and 1700 MHz bands.
T-Mobile's 3G network uses 1700 and (in some places; a nationwide switch to this frequency is ongoing) 1900 MHz bands. Their LTE network uses 1700 MHz AWS band, replacing their old 1700 MHz 3G service.
Xperia V does not support 1700 and 1900 MHz bands for 3G.

As such, you will probably be able to use it on AT&T's 850 MHz 3G network but the experience will leave a lot to be desired.

Yup. That's the same situation as my Xperia Z (C6603) - the C6603 works reasonably well in areas with solid 850 coverage, but there are places where I know that other devices can get HSPA+ service and I've dropped to EDGE.

AT&T data speeds Nexus 5

I was wondering what kind of data speeds are being seen by nexus 5 devices on AT&T LTE data network.
I've included an image of my speed test result, usually around that mark with full bars, drops down to between 8-15 Mbps when on 2-3 bar.

That's about the speeds I reach here in Philadelphia suburbs. Unfortunately though in downtown no matter how many bars I have speed drops drastically, possibly due to amount of people with cell phones and buildings.
I rarely drop to 3g but when I its around 4-5mbps download which is considerably better than what I had with Verizon in Philadelphia.
I usually get between 6 and 10 in Salem Oregon

I get pretty close to the same speeds.. I get horrible service at home with the N5, usually 1-2 bars, and average 8MB down, 7 up. Signal strength was better on my S4. In an area where signal is good, I've reached 60MB numerous times...

I was wondering what kind of data speeds are being seen by nexus 5 devices on AT&T LTE data network.
I've included an image of my speed test result, usually around that mark with full bars, drops down to between 8-15 Mbps when on 2-3 bar.

I'm in Southern California and average about 4mb down and almost 1 up. Thats with full bars of LTE. What APN are you using. PLEASE SHARE!!! My wife has the GS5 on att and is averaging about 52mb down and 22up. We both have the same APN I dont understand it.
I get those speeds on straight talk running on at&t

Call att and Make sure you're imei is provision
I get about 30mpbs down in middle GA. Not too bad.
Atlanta during rush hour traffic a free days ago.
Orlando, FL here and I've been getting terrible speeds. Less than 4 down with 3+ bars. One time I was getting full bars LTE and I was getting like 0.5mbps down. I'm about ready to switch to T-Mobile.

THATS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Better than I get in Sonora, Ca! But we are in the foothills with less people and less priority for upgrades to their networks.

anything over 2mbps with decent ping is honestly plenty fast for me.
Currently 12-13 in center of Silicon Valley - 2-3 in the suburbs of the same. I've called ATT to be sure I'm provisioned on the correct APN and plan for LTE.
What's sucked is that ATT has obviously either turned off or not built out capacity in more heavily residential areas in SV, perhaps with the assumption that people just use wifi at home. I'd had a solid 23 at work and 18 in the suburbs first few months of 2014.
Just for grins, here are the settings I got from ATT about a year ago:
Name: ATT US HSPA+
APN: phone
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Net set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: None
APN type: default, admin, mms
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN: Enable / Disable: APN enabled (greyed out)
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO Type: None
MVNO Value: Not set

Even with this connection XDA doesn't load very well.....then I go a mile down the road to another tower

do the speedtest and then immediately load XDA.
it might be an XDA problem. XDA does not use much badnwidth

I will say that using Orlando's server seems to give very inaccurate speeds. When i use that server i get around 15-17 .
I usually use Maccleny* when i do my tests here in FL. (** not sure how it is exactly spelled)
Best speed I've ever gotten on AT&T. Went to the store and copied the apn in the nexus6.
