Hotmail usp.edu account - Off-topic

So I go to school at USP (university of the sciences in philadelphia)
Just a quick question, I have a college university email that is ex: [email protected]
I log in through hotmail.com
Does my school have the ability to go through my email because it's an usp.edu account? Or they cannot because it's a hotmail account?

I have no idea, but who uses their school email for personal stuff? I'm glad I have it to receive discounts online.

The fact your asking this should hint at to not receive anything on that account which can put your education in jeopardy. Use your personal email address. And to answer your question, yes they can look.

What if I had "confidential" documents in the account?

Doesn't matter which "client" you use to view your emails, whether it's Outlook, Hotmail, or any other...all your emails still go through the Uni mail servers and are still able to be accessed the same way by the powers that be.

Can't get hotmail to work.

I have tried to make a new account, but afterwards it just forwards to the hotmail homepage. I want it to work with the integrated Outlook. And in the live program I'm using another account than hotmail to msn, so it won't do any good to check sync with email, when it's another account. What can I do?
It needs the config information. The easiest way to do it is with Windows Live for Windows Mobile. Search for WLM here or PM me & I'll send you a RS link. You want 10.6.033.2100 BTW.
Actually, I think you're SOL if you're already using WLM for another account. POP email isn't available for Hotmail accounts, only for MSN accounts.
unless you pay and upgrade to the 19.99 a year, you will not get POP access to any hotmail account
So my only solution is to pay up, or it will not work in outlook on TyTN?
I have it configured on my normal PC with no problems.
I just installed seven and it works great. I asked the same question on another board today.

Isn't there a plug for Outlook anyway? If you wanted to, just install it from Microsoft.
http://email.about.com/gi/dynamic/o...S74p5AsZCAG2yP5bLTnQvU6m2ivmwN3459c5fMw%3d%3d
And the seven solution for AT&T uses Xpress mail, which requires your Laptop to be On and Connected to the Network. What kind of crap is with the AT&T and Xpress mail?!
And good luck with the BETA program...

Okay, but can I install that link on my TyTN?
funny, i've never had problems w/ hotmail...... it's under windows live for my phone...
Okay, but my problems is, that when I log in to Live IM I don't use my hotmail account but another. Do you have a non hotmail Live IM account, and it still work?

What do you mean you login with another account? You have an IM account and another email account?
maybe pocket MSN will work for you
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/software/pocketmsn.mspx)
Any Windows enabled phone should come with the Live Messenger enabled.
On the MS web site, there a lots of apps
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/software/default.mspx)
The Windows Live app only allows for 1 Hotmail/MSN/Live accont to be signed in at once. If you have a separate ID/account you use for IM and another for email you will have to switch accounts back and forth. This will obviously be a huge hassle and not worth the effort.
I would recommend downloading another instant messenging app and using the Windows Live app for your email account. Unless you pay $19.99 /year you can not get Hotmail emails to work with the WM messaging clients without signing into the Windows Live app.
Hope that helps clarify things.
Yes it does But I would like to perhaps use Skype as voip and chat and IM as hotmail tjecker, but do I just install Skype or should I also be using some voip.cab to get it to work?
Thanks for your help.

True. However, I have gone on line & linked my Live & Hotmail ID's & have forwad set, so I get TWO accounts, one @live.com & one @hotmail.com accounts under one on my device.

Good call on linking IDs. I completely forgot that you could get your emails all in one inbox. The only problem I could see would be not having the right email address show up on messages you send from the phone.
Can you quickly describe how you linked them?

Get Your Live (Hotmail, Live, MSN, etc.) Email Without Using Live

Microsoft FINALLY opened up the POP3 ports for Hotmail, Live, MSN, etc. accounts. That means that we can get our email on our devices again without installing that stupid Live program.
This is especially great for me because the newer version of the Live Mobile program was crashing my Manila and freezing my email tab so I had to uninstall it.
I just set up my hotmail account and it worked immediately.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Create a new mail account
2. Don't put the real domain. For example, for hotmail, I put "hormail" because the device will automatically tell you to go to live.com to set it up. You can change your email address after you put in the server settings.
Here are the settings:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes
Click to collapse
Do all of this and click "Finish" then go back in and change your email server back to what it should be.
Click Send/Receive and you will get your mail.

This is great! Thanks for posting this, now I can free up a few megabytes on my device. I have always hated that I couldn't check my email on older devices that didn't support the live application, like my Mobilepro 900C. I was never a fan of the live app anyway, as I could never choose what happened to my mail on the servers if I deleted it on my device. Thanks,
Dave
How to get *all* sent emails to show up
Thanks for the heads-up regarding this. I'd heard Hotmail were going to offer a more standard form of POP/SMTP access one of these days. I've configured my Kaiser accordingly and it shows all my received emails fine and emails I've sent from my Kaiser fine but emails I've sent from my desktop PC do not show up in sent emails on the Kaiser. Is this what others are getting as well? How do I get all of my sent emails to show up as well?
Yea, only emails sent from the device will show up.
Glad to see other people find this useful as well.
You're welcome.
thank you so much
thank you so much i have wanted to have both of my hotmail accounts on my device for ages.

No problem. I'm really glad to have my hotmail back also.
For some reason, I can't get this working in Thunderbird on my laptop though or even on Outlook.

Synchronizing folders
I'm can setup my MSN e-mail accounts using the method mentioned earlier.
However, none of the my personal MSN e-mail folders show up for me.
They do if I set up the MSN e-mail using HTTP protocol (and use Adrian HTTPMail Provider) instead of POP3 protocol.
Does anyone know how to get the personal e-mail folders to show up and synchronize using POP3?

Generally speaking, if your company uses Exchange mail and has a web URL, then this is what you would enter:
(Example website url http://www.example.com/)
Server address: either mail.example.com -or- exchange.example.com
Domain: example.com
If those don't work, you'll probably need to ask whoever set up your company email what the proper settings are. If you are told some pop or imap settings, then that is not Exchange mail.

Google Email

Ok, I have the GMAIL app configured to send/receive Google mail and well as mail from my ISP account. Is there a way I can configure the app on the myTouch so it is easier to tell each provider appart?
thanks

Just go into your GMail account and create labels and filters and you will be able to tell as they come in.
Yup just create a filter and a corresponding label.
That's how I do it.
will check it out...thanks guys

Are you saying that the Gmail app can be used to access a second email account, in addition to the main Gmail account for syncing? If so, how? Thanks.

You have to forward your second email account to your gmail account.

No, a better solution is to go into your GMail settings and have it fetch your emails from the secondary acct via POP3.

IMAP Email App

Does anyone know of an IMAP email app that is worth using? There seem to be a bunch out there that are all iffy from what I've seen. My college account is IMAP, and I can get the correct configuration settings from them, but first want an app that is actually decent. Paid apps aren't out, but a trial first would be nice, or at least a pretty perfect review.
Thanks!
I use K-9 Mail for my comcast accounts (2 POP3), gmail account (IMAP) and my college email account (IMAP). It is HIGHLY customizable and works great been using it for years.
I just use Gmail. I probably have 6 different emails linked to it. For my college, I just it forward a copy to my primary gmail account. Then again, my college email is gmail based.
Gmail DOES support IMAP and POP.

The built in email app supports imap, I use it for my university. Just go to accounts and add it from there.

I find the built in app to be just fine and it should do IMAP, unless you tried it and are having issues. I use the built in email app for my college, except we use an MS Exchange server and it works fine.
The above two posters have better ideas. My method was to do it all through gmail on my computer and have all my emails linked to my main account, then just have 1 gmail app reading my primary account, but that's sort of a security risk. If someone gets into my primary gmail account, they can see everything.

Slayer621, why not setup 2 factor authentication on your gmail account? Your phone can be a soft-token, that way it will be more secure. When it comes to my University, they want all emails to instructors/staff to go through your main Uni account, so that's why I won't route everything through gmail.
Sent from my XT860 running ICS
I was looking to do it through the stock email app, but running SD5.1 ICS doesn't have the option to add an email account. I'll look into K9, but I may be heading back to Mav4 GB here soon anyways where there may be a stock email app. Thanks! I'll be back with updates.
Kinda hitting a dead end here. I'm on Mav4 and using the stock email app, I added my email address and pw, then I hit manually configure and entered what I could find from the school (Univ. of Pittsburgh, http://technology.pitt.edu/Document...obile/Mobile Devices and Enterprise Email.pdf), but couldn't get it to work. I'll be trying K9 tomorrow maybe.
