[Q] HTC Super Tool Root + CWM - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

So for those of you who rooted via HTC Super Tool before the SUPERGUIDE method was posted, how are you getting CWM on your vivid?

Just put the PH39IMG file in your sd card or internal and boot into hboot. Just ignore the part about flashing the CWM ROOT VER2 zip in cwm since you will already have root from the supertool.

[Q] Clockwork Mod and ROM Manager

Hey Guys,
This may be a stupid question but here goes... Hopefully it doesn't upset a MOD
I manually installed CWM on my Incredible S, later I got ROM manager. When I start rom manager it tells me that I don't have CWM installed, but I have 4EXTRecovery v2.1.0 RC1. Is there something I'm missing and... what would happen if I loaded ROM Manager and click the install Clockwork Mod button?? I'm a little nervous about trying it and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
All CWM does is put an update.zip file in your SD card. When you reboot into recovery through rom manager it flashes the update.zip and you use clockwork mod recovery. When you reboot into recovery again you will be back at 4EXTRecovery.

Awesome thanks. I'll give it a shot, as long as it doesn't mess up my 4EXTRecovery it shouldn't be a big issue, thanks for the help!!!

Here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=660705&stc=1&d=1311262388
download that file and place it on your SD card.
Reboot into recovery and install the ZIP file from your SD card.
Enjoy
Thx a lot ! Awesome !

Just noticed I think ROM manager actually permenantly replaces 4ext recovery. You can always reinstall 4ext with a .zip file though.

I noticed that as well and I reinstalled 4EXT after. Not a big deal, thanks again for the help.
if you have EXT4 installed and IMO it's by far the best recovery available for us then once in rom manager use the manual flash over ride option rather than installing CWM

Can't Install zip file from sdcard

I have ICS stock rom, rooted and s-off, HBOOT 6.28.6666 and Using CM Recovery v 5.8.3.1.
I copied the zip files to my sdcard and tried to install via recovery.
Every time the installation fails eg,
Installing /sdcard/*****..zip
Finding update package .....
Opening Update package ....
Installing Update .....
E:Error in /sdcard/*****.zip
(Status 0)
Installation Aborted
Could anyone please tell me what is wrong with my recovery.

I have tried it with 3 different zip files and the result is the same, you can substitute ***** for any file name.
Also the file is not corrupted as it is the same result with any zip file I download from this forum.
Thank you all for your prompt reply.

Change the recovery, as far as i know 5.8 is the touch-version of CWM, use the one provided by unlimited.io, you can find it in the tool provided in my signature
Hope this helps.
--
Also, if you send files via ADB or via Mounting USB, if it gives you errors like this, restart recovery. Well, this kind of errors give you if you change a file with the same name.

Thanks for your reply. I download your multi tool and used option 3 to install ICS Recovery (unlimited.io)
Same error when I tried to install from zip file on sdcard.
Could it be because I used protected HBOOT from unlimited.io when doing S-Off in my phone? At the moment I have HBOOT 6.28.6666.
Do I need to install different hboot?
Am I the only one with this error?
Has anyone else got HBOOT 6.28.6666 with working recovery?
As I have used unlimited.io ics protected hboot, do i need to do anything after this to get S-OFF with working recovery.
I have already tried CWM Recovery (5.8.3.1) and unlimited.io ICS recovery.
Try flash ruu gb and starts over with the flashing tool.

Thanky all for your replies. At the moment I can not try anything as my phone has black screen of death.
The screen is black and remains so after power on or hard reset. My battery is fully charged and also tried with USB Cable, still black screen.
I need to do Jtag on my phone. Looking into possibility of buying riffbox and then play around with it.

Well in the hasoon2000 has a toolkit that has superSu.zip in a folder so put the device in recovery and mount, drag, uount, flash.... And if it still gets stuck you might have to flash ruu, but you have to un-soffed and relock bootloader .... But did you htcdev unlocked and then s-offed.?

Thank you very much gonna try this immediately. earlier today i had flashed the boot.img i found in the stock ics zip on a forum. it unlocked my phone and booted fine. i installed the superuser and was given root access. however this afternoon the battery came out and when i tried to reboot it gets stuck again. Yes i did go through the htcdev to unlock the bootloader. i havent did the s-off portion yet. still studying the procedure. this is only my first time rooting a htc.

thank you, how do i go about loading the ph39img.zip when i put it on sd card under that name, it starts checking during hboot but says wrong image. when i renamed it to xxximg.zip it bypasses the hboot check. but when i go into recovery mode to install, i cant mount sd card. after taking it out and remounting about 10 times it finally recognizes sd card. but when i goto install it starts process then screen flashes and goes back to recovery mode, and then the can mount sd card notice appears again.

No you must keep it named ph39img.zip and either put it on the root of your SD or internal

i've just installed a recovery and i'm stuck on STEP 3 ROOT how do i get supersu on my phone
1) You have to write here.
2) For flash the SU, download it, copy it into recovery with mount usb and flash it.
Or you can use GOOmanager to download it and install from recovery. It places it on you sd

[Q] need help with custom recovery.

Hi, I'm a new user.
I just unlocked my bootloader, and I was looking to put a custom Rom on my device .
But wherever I look , I can't find a custom recovery.
Can you introduce some custom recoveries to me.
Oh and I don't know how to put a custom recovery on my phone too,so I need some help with this too. =))
Ps: I don't want to root my phone.
I will be thankful if you help me.

4EXT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377751
CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918450
(I suggest 4EXT)
To flash one of them, rename the IMG file to recovery, place it into your fastboot folder, boot into bootloader(fastboot mode) open command prompt navigate to your directory
Command to flash is "fastboot flash recovery recovery.IMG"
Hope this helps

The preliminary steps are to unlock bootloader (which I assume he has done that or if he is on HBOOT 1.13.0000, then use Revolutionary to S-OFF and then flash custom recovery and root), flash ClockworkMod recovery, then flash a superuser.zip to obtain root.
There's a guide made by myself in my signature so check it out. If you still need help, post back.
