This is a DirectDraw demo game "Space Donuts" from the Windows Mobile 6 SDK. It does not "require" any KaiserGL nor D3D drivers because this uses only the 2D API. Just the stock Windows Mobile build is enough.
It takes over all your buttons, so read the readme.txt.
I average ~30fps on the Kaiser with TLR WM6.1 rom which is still kinda bad.
same here (30 fps), omnia driver, romeoes 4.21.
Average 50 fps on the original T-mobile 6.0 rom with omnia drivers ....
Edit : Ofcorse after more things come on the screen it drops but averaged 40 fps..
Slovak Orange TyTN II official ROM
it is windows mobile 6.0 -> 50 fps average
also omnia drivers
edit: omnia drivers does NOT work(on this rom), 50 fps avg also without it
Tested this on Acer m900 with that Omnia Pro class S3C6410 cpu ... A really nice ~63fps, and this is at 480x800.
@michal.htm: as I pointed out before, "omnia drivers" is irrelevant because "omnia drivers" ia only cpu-accelerated Direct3D -- this is hardware DirectDraw: a technically different graphics API.
Hey everyone!
I got a bit bored at work today, so I hacked the Windows CE Quake3 port (http://code.google.com/p/q3ce/) so that it's playable with the new accelerated 3d drivers (http://www.htcclassaction.org/).
Someone has probably done this before, but I couldn't find anything on the forums, so I thought I'd might as well release it. I basically just changed the import segment so that the (seemingly) unused import of "glClipPlanex", which isn't included in the system-provided libGLES_CM.dll, got changed to the equally-long string "glMatrixMode". This allows the game to run, and while it's still pretty slow, it's much faster than the software renderer.
To run q3ce in hardware 3d, simply remove the libGLES_CM.dll file in your q3ce directory, and run q3ce.exe.
Cheers!
When I download the code from Google, the zip file errors when trying to unpack it. Did you have to do anything out of the ordinary to get it to work?
***EDIT
Nevermind, I'm a sooper noob.
i get "the file q3ce cannot be opened eather it is not signed with a trusted cert or one of its componets can not be found. i am useing the ommina driver.
What version of Quake 3 do I need to buy? Quake III Arena?
Yes, you need Quake 3 Arena to run the game. The q3ce package contains instructions on how to convert and install the game to your windows mobile.
@josefcrist:
Does the original q3ce executable work if you follow the instructions on how to run it without hardware acceleration? I might have to make a special fix for the omnia driver, it probably looks a bit different... Give me a few hours and I'll try getting it to work with that driver. Didn't even know it existed
Thank you ever so much. Will try this on my Diamond (which uses the same chipset albeit with more memory assigned to it).
EDIT: Strange...after the bootconsole part, it just goes back to the homescreen (I disabled TF3D because Q3ce is a huge mem. hog).
Anyway, I'm very grateful for your effort, and I'm sure many Diam users would be.
@josefcrist:
Hmm, it looks like the omnia drivers is only a D3D driver, while Quake 3 uses OpenGL... So with both the HTCCA driver AND the Omnia driver installed you can use OpenGL ES applications, while still having the better D3D performance that the Omnia driver seems to promise.
@nuuke1:
Yeah, I really want one of those, the much higher resolution display is just so sexy! If you can send me all the DLL files (could be one or two) called libgles in your Windows directory on the diamond, I'll see what I can do about it.

It looks sexy alright, with the VGA too, but I'd wait for some of HTCs newer announcements in about 20 days at the MWC09, and since HTC has partnered with nVidia, we may even see Tegra *faints on the spot out of excitement*.
Sure thing with the dlls .
EDIT: Here we go. Hmm, I think one of the libgles files is hidden, the cm one.
Hmm, this is a bit odd... The original q3ce.exe seems to be linked to exactly your libgles_cl.dll. All the imports line up perfectly. Could you try copying your ligbles_cl.dll to the q3ce dir, and rename it to libgles_cm.dll?
It could also be worth to try the same with the libgles_mn.dll, as they both seem like good candidates. Good luck!
Whoops I forgot to mention that Q3ce already works with h/w acceleration but only 7 or 8 fps. It must be able to work better than that, methinks.
Anyhow just trying what you said (with original Q3ce.exe, other one doesn't work this time as well) AND...
OK the FPS is on average around 9/10 fps hehe. It's an improvement though!
EDIT: Is it possible to make it play in QVGA, as it's currently set to play at the resolution of that particular device. That would be sterling!
I get around that framerate too... There's definitely room for improvements. GLBenchmark runs pretty fast, so one would think that quake 3 would too...
I'll see if I can get q3ce to compile. With a bit of luck I might be able to do some optimizations and fixes. Would be fun to have a more playable q3 port for these phones.
Whatever happened to getting Quake 3 Arena to work smoothly?
well depends on what you call smooth, i can run quake 3 at about 9-15 fps, with customized config and a special ram setup+exe that i found for the dellaxim and surprisingly it worked for the kaiser, you do need a mix of drivers and a special rom if you will, almost none of the newer roms works with the d3d drivers
I would just give up on trying to get Quake 3 running on the Kaiser. The Kaiser obviously isn't as powerful as advertised, and Quake 3 is never gonna be playable.
For this reason I'm getting a nokia n82 (it's like a copy of the N95 except with xenon flash, better camera, candybar style). It'l play quake 3 at about 30fps with full graphics and detail. I'll also be able to play SNES and GBA. I really can't wait to get it!

some need a gps device with pda functions and a phone.. others, a gaming machine. want the first? get an winmo! want games? get an iphone dude
Does anyone have a working copy of everything needed to get Quake 3 working? Minus the Quake 3 files itself of course. Instructions on how to get .wad files there would be great too.
Some reason, I tried Quake3, but it just closes when it tries to start up.
I finally got Quake3 working with 3D acceleration. These damn applications don't make it easy getting it working. The main problem was getting the .pk3 file correctly made.
Anyway, it runs at 4-5 fps, and textures are missing. Mainly, the textures on the weapons.
Quake 3 was ported finally on the Android, and I'm going to give it a try on the Kaiser. Going to see which is better, Quake 3 for WinMO or Android. So far, nearly everything I run on Android is faster, such as emulators for Nes, Genesis, and SNES.
I know this is my third post, but I got Quake 3 working on the Android running on the Kaiser. I have a post about it, with a video showing it working.

hi, it is possible run d3d ? there was released on htc kaiser. But shift has small memory and i dont know how much 3d graphic needs. Maybe for tests it will by good to see
d3d work on the shift. Speed is extremly slow as it is software emulation. You can try the kaiser pack on the shift if you want. My first rom (GPS only) has d3d enabled.
I sell my shift before christmas, but i cant find good device with big dislay and good keyboard so i cant try it, But the question is why is so slow? does it due to the ram? Chipset is same.

HI THAI
i remeber your first rom with d3d. indeed the d3dm software is not good for such a device . the 3d navigation with garmin xt and other java sofware was very laggy. i tried to patch the samsung omnia d3d software but their was to many dependencies in the registeries and i did not sucess. i thaugt to implement the htc class action drivers with the 6.1 kernel from udk (the hybrid one ... alpha 1) , but i know it is useless with the actual wince limitation of the shift. for now gps navigation should be used with th x86 motherboard. also gaming should be done with vista as well, with a good usb or bloothooth pad
hi, i saw videos on youtube like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBaJ9rsMGI0
and i think, that there is good 3d potencial. I dont need 3d gaming on shift, but i mean improve scrooling a some graphic on wm side
alocate memomory
does anyone know, how much memory is alocate for d3d graphic on tytn 2? How much is optimal for qvga, for vga? Shift has small memory, i think it is posible ma 16mb for 3d, but the less than 10mb is too little to run other programs
Hi does anyone think there will be a chance that windows phone 7 can be ported onto the HTC Diamond, I've just seen the first look videos for the 3 new win 7 phones and the new OS looks awesome
would appreciate an answer
thanks
no i think.....because wp7 requires direct 3d hardware accelerated gpu and diamond have an opengl es 1.1 hardware accelerated gpu....diamond can run d3d apps or games but the driver is a translator from d3d code to opengl code....
but if the driver is translating the code, can't similar be done to wp7, then the graphics might work but it would be slightly slow
yes the graphics will be very slow......i think so maybe...hope i'm miss!
I'd like to start a list of programs that work and custimazation tips so that we can all get the most out of our webtop!
Visit this thread to get full Ubuntu working on the webtop:
[MOD] Full Ubuntu on the Atrix (now fully automated)
Before installing or modifying make sure that you don't (or any dependencies) upgrade: (as per Sogarth)
Be careful upgrading any of the -mot/~mot packages, as that can break functionality. I'm still compiling a list of which packages can be upgraded versus which can be left alone.
Can be upgraded with loss of functionality:
libnautilus-extension1-1:2.26.2-0ubuntu1-mot1
nautilus-1:2.26.2-0ubuntu1-mot1
nautilus-data-1:2.26.2-0ubuntu1-mot1
Upgrading these packages plus at least one additional package I've not yet fully identified breaks viewing mountable storage and the ability to unmount it.
xserver-xorg-core-2:1.6.0-0ubuntu14
Using the stock xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.0-0ubuntu14 that's already installed without recovering /usr/bin/Xorg appears to lead to a loss of the status bar at the top. This particular issue is now handled by the script.
Cannot be upgraded:
gtk2-engines-1:2.18.1-0ubuntu1~mot1
This breaks aiw (Android In Window) so that there's no frame around the window and it can no longer be manipulated in any way.
xscreensaver-5.10-6-motorola1?
xscreensaver-data-5.10-6-motorola1?
xscreensaver-data-extra-5.10-6-motorola1?
This will likely break displaying aiw (Android In Window) as the unlocking mechanism for the screensaver. Still needs to be tested.
Working Ubuntu Apps:
LXTerminal
eog
Pidgin (SOUND! install gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio)
GIMP
gedit
Transmission
gnome-panel (switch between webtop and gnome-session mouse to top of screen)
VLC works (tested MKV video, music a little choppy)
rdesktop
nano
joe
synergy
vnc
axe
lxpanel
openssh-client
AbiWord
Rhythmbox (thread )
xfce4
NOT working:
Open Office
working on gnome-panel issue
but it does have more indepth settings. like display mouse keyboard etc
so you were able to get a higher display res than 1280x768?

yes, but this wasnt due to gnome-panel.
i'm currently running at 1280x1024, but only due to limitation of my monitor right now. i get the 1366x768 at the home monitor.
i'm guessing your on an hdtv, doesnt do 1080p yet, so it drops down?

How'd you get higher res?
I see what you'rr asking now. Maybe its because i'm using hdmi to DVI? I haven't done any mod on this. It does it automatically choosing highest resolution. Could be wrong tho.. I can see 720p only being available if your on an hdtv.

I was going to do this when I got my dock tomorrow.
I had two concepts of app lists to test.
The Jaunty list from ubuntu
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Jaunty#Ubuntu_Addon_Applications
and the top 100 list
http://ubuntulinuxhelp.com/top-100-of-the-best-useful-opensource-applications/
The rdesktop also working
joe, synergy, vnc, axe all work
Am I able to write to the 'internal' storage. I know we have limited space, but can we write outside of the webtop environment?

no, you're right, you do have 1280 x 1024, and it's available to select as your res if you click the display settings (even on an HDTV). it just doesn't help any for HDTVs since it's a non-widescreen res.
Anyone have any luck with moonlight? I have tried but can't get it to work.
You guys think this would be powerful enough to run a Virtual PC program like parallels or virtualbox?

maybe in 2.4 when there is full multi core support, or if that 1.5ghz overclock kernel extension ever comes to fruition. but what you're thinking is exactly what I'm hoping for
if I can get Internet Explorer to work via virtual box or even somehow through IETab in FF via IE running in WINE my life would be complete as the majority of websites I use for work are IE only
I can tell you that the iputils and nmap packages work perfectly, so does John the Ripper along with openssh

I want to buy the Atrix, I'm on an ancient Android(i won't say which to save embarrassment lol). It really seems that it'll be a perfect fit for me especially if they have a virtual PC on it... mainly because of either browser support or having actual Microsoft Office on there
This will probably be one of the most powerful phones for a while so I might as well just get it. The 1GB SDRAM vs 512 of similar dual cores that have come out is a huge plus.
I was also thinking of installing virtual box but using windows 7 embedded as it is a much lighter footprint.
I am basically waiting for a CWM fiel that will run on 1.57 gingerblur.
Then I will start messing around with this.
Pretty sure any of the virtualization apps require an x86 chip.

I am afraid you are right about the x86 part....
I will try qemu then
http://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...nning-windows-under-the-qemu-emulator-320569/
If it doesn't work with win7 embedded then I will do it with xp embedded.
I want to be the first on youtube with windows running on a nvidia tegra 2 cpu based atrix.
Did you guys know that in games if you hold one finger down on the trackpad while in webtop mode, you can press the on screen buttons? I tried it in samurai 2 and dungeon defenders. Its hard to find the buttons but makes games much more playable.
Can someone tell me if this works with the laptop dock?

From my research qemu hasn't been ported to arm.
Also windows CE is the only arm windows availible. I don't think it will work on tegra.
I also don't see wine working on arm ubuntu for a long time. Because it will have to emulate x86 for windows stuff.
Windows 8 will support both arm and x86. However, why do that when you have a better os right now.
