The Tab running froyo looks silky smooth. 435MB available RAM.
Is there any reason not to expect the same kind of performance on Galaxy S?
it is all about MONEY
I was thinking the same thing, they appear to have the same specs, so perhaps we can expect similar performance!
Mmmm I think looking at tab will be interesting... As it pushes more pixels more smoothly on the same or similar hardware

Hello!
I recently updated my Galaxy A from 2.1 to 2.2 Froyo. I was expecting that I will become a bit faster because of the JIT compiler thing.
But instead I experienced it to be much slower in overall response.
I did some research and found that for the same hardware and OS the Nexus one gives better results than Galaxy S.
Does this mean that samsung has not done a good job in writing their Froyo update for Galaxy A and Galaxy S. Or should I format my cell to factory settings to get better results?
Thanks
Do more research!
Hardware is not the same at all
JIT is optimised for Snapdragon (N1) not Hummingbird (SGS)
You should alway revert to factory settings after a major update (like froyo) for better results
Hello.
I'm thinking about getting a Galaxy Tab wifi only, but are there any other spec differences between the P1000 and the P1010 other than the missing 3G?
Any known software issues with the P1010?
Thank you

GPU in P1010 is PowerVR SGX530!
IIs that better or worse than the 3G version?

PowerVR SGX540 in P1000 is much faster!
No GPS I think and BT 2.1 instead of 3.0
How much is much faster?

Don't care about the BT. I think the gps is actually there. Can anyone confirm that?

It does have GPS.
The CPU is also different.
In summary, there are 3 differences:
1. CPU (not much different, I think)
2. GPU (thus can't play 720p smoothly, forget 1080p)
3. Bluetooth (transfer speed is lower)
I own one, and I'm disappointed at the GPU.
So what one does att carry
Thanks. Not getting that one then. Want full power

1. The P1010 weighs maybe 1 - 5 grams less because you don't need to put a card in it.
2. The WiFi-only only has a 16GB internal memory model.
3. No EDGE, 3G, etc.
Where did you guys get the information regarding the weaker proc? The specs at pdadb.net and gsmarena are just the same? O_O
Unless, of course, they haven't modified it yet. O_O
Galaxy Tab WiFi is OMAP3
I just got a Galaxy Tab WiFi and will be returning it tomorrow.
The SoC is an OMAP3 of some kind. The GPU *is* an SGX530, which is significantly slower than the SGX540 on the Samsung C110 SoC. The OMAPs memory controller is also much slower than the C110s, various other OMAP bits are not up-to-spec compared to C110. The Galaxy Tab WiFi is a joke. Buy a nook color instead: save $100 and get a better LCD.
I'm sure that the product spec page for the Galaxy Tab WiFi said "C110 Applications Processor" a few days ago, now it reads "1GHz A8 Cortex Processor" (which isn't even written correctly, should be "Cortex-A8"...). I was suspicious when someone posted that they had inspected a P1010 ROM and it contained all of the TI OMX libraries, but I didn't believe that Samsung would redo the whole BSP for a product destined to sell zero million units.
I was wrong. Guess I'll wait for the Asus Transformer.
It seems that the firmware / Android version isn't upgradable by normal means.
There is no firmware or Android update selection like the Sprint version.
Kies indicates that the firmware is NOT upgradable.
Anyone know what's going on?
I brought mine yesterday
P1010 decode 720P video is fine (smooth) with stock video player
Screen is so great (actually better than my HD2 w/ Android) , just waiting for the great great xda developer work on the kernel so I can overclock mine...
Here is the list I really like
- ROOT access
- Overclocking , Memory Managerment
- UI Tweak (Using Go launcher at the moment)

I agree, I haven't seen anything definitive yet that shows it has the weaker CPU. Can any of you smart xda people who has either broken one open (not me, ...yet) or studied the code give a somewhat more definitive answer? I've had mine for 2 weeks now. I'm happy with its performance. But I know I'm going to want to play with the innards down the road. Is it really that much different from the tab phones?
Any update on this? I was going to get a WiFi tab but having second thoughts now...
@victor888 - what app did you use to play the 720p files, RockPlayer?
It is apparently different...

the P1010 is not Bluetooth keyboard Compatible (No HID inside). apparently does not support video output through HDMI cable, please advise if anyone is working.
_____________
Update... Solved Bluetooth compatibility.
Hi.
I could connect my bluetooth keyboard to my Galaxy Tab P1010 (only WIFI) by an application from the Android Market. This application is called "BlueKeyboard JP". I am using Stock GingerBread Rom.
greetings.
Tested it
Hey there,
I have read a lot about the differences of these Tabs, but I have not seen some real results.
So I just bought both of them... And I compared:
Fazit: the GT-P1000 is really faster then the GT-P1010!
I have made a screenshot of both Tabs. P1010 with Android 2.2.1 and P1000 with Android 2.2 with nothing running then Quadrant.
The results are:
P1000: 1090 Points
P1010: 691 Points
You can feel the differences by browsing, sliding the top bar down and using the back and home button.
I don't have pictures of the Hardwareinfos, but I lookes at them and there are a lot of differences. The CPU is the same. But the GPU is a [email protected] and a [email protected] All sensors are different and other things. [email protected] and [email protected]
I will make pictures and a list of all differences, if someone want's it.
Greetz,
Tillmet
I don't trust in Quadrant benchmark. If you use OCLF in the P1010 the result overpast the 1000 points.
In game I have good performace +-30fps in HD gameloft titles, like Eternal Legacy, Dungeon Hunter, etc. In video performace the P1010 play 720p h.263 very well (test it with the free Big Buck Bunny Movie 720p mp4, the picture quality is awesome) ;no so well with h.264 that need be 480p with a baseline level 3.0 profile.
Yes, is no so powerfull like the P1000 but with the price I am satisfied with it.
Ps. Android System Info show OpenGL 1.1 same that the P1000.
Hello everybody,
does anybody know how is developing Mali GPU driver going on for our Note?
I think that graphics performance was a little better in ICS 4.0.4 then in upper version... or I'm wrong?
The most important experience I've is with the 3D game Let's Golf 3: playing is not smooth then with rom 4.0.4 stock...
At the moment I'm using Angry 3.2 Rom JB 4.1.2....

One thing I've learnt through Android, performance decreases as the versions go up. Its not a maybe, its a definitely.

It's disagree entirely, I think the reverse. Kernels with latest Mali drivers way outperform normal stock drivers. Ics improved on gb, and remember that jb is still in beta and Google have already admitted to issues with display performance which they're working on, so I have no doubt jb will be even better.

AW: Mali GPU driver
Maybe the benchmark score decreases but the real performance increased for me with the upgrades. There may be some versions slower then there precursors but in general performance is growing.

Hahaha (not laughing at you just at our differing experiences) - I disagree entirely with this and think OP has a point. In fact I already made a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203374
Some games I don't notice much if any difference in 3D performance if any - off the top of my head examples are Dead Trigger and Riptide GP.
However for some others, for me at least, the performance difference between GB and JB firmware is huge. I'm talking about talking stuttering, uneven frame rates on JB Roms and silky smooth, consistent framerates on GB Roms. Examples are Let's Golf 3 (as already bought up), Real Racing 3 and GTA: Vice City. In fact (and I have no idea why) GTA:VC on GB plays silky smooth and at a higher resolution than JB, not sure why this is.
Concerning GTA:VC I, like many others, had issues that made it unplayable sometimes on GB based ROMS so I recently switched to Samsung Stock JB where it now plays without those issues but the performance of the game is much lower.
Its definitely true that performance other than 3D gaming is streets ahead in JB Roms when you compare it to GB of course.
One thing I haven't done is much gaming using ICS though which may explain our differing experiences.
another explanation is that the games dev havent optimized it for jb or newer drivers yet.
if thats the case its further proof of silly android hardware, os and app integration versus independant hardware layer, os on top and then aps, making apps completely hardware independant lol and overcoming the legacy crap.
I'm not sure what is this mali gpu thing but i believe it has something to do with graphic as what y'all has discussed above. I can see that my graphic performance has decreased on this JB rom(I'm using supernexus2 4.2.2) compared to ICS. When on ICS, I can play Backstab HD without any issue, but on JB rom(both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2) the graphic are too laggy and the phone itself would heated up.
currently i don't owned GALAXY S i9000 yet, does anybody knows that it is worth to buy GALAXY S I9000?
PS:Currently i have GALAXY GIO gt-S5660
I think SGS1 is no longer offered in the market by Telcos, so I'm assuming you're buying a used SGS1. IMO as long as you're sure the unit is still 100% working without any defect, it is worth buying. There are so many Rom & kernel development on SGS1 that make the unit feel like it is still brand new.
But of course compared to SGS2 &3, SGS1 is slower and with limited RAM (only 512MB). That's the downside of it.

thanks but i won't gonna buy new GALAXY S cuz its expensive for me in brand new, just a used GALAXY S. SGS3/SGSII are insane for their prices so i won't gonna purchase them.
I forgot to mention that with the new
Roms being released lately, SGS1 is increasingly becoming very fast in addition to it's being smooth and stable. So i honestly think it's still worth buying if you currently do not have the budget for a better phone like SGS2 & 3.
But of course, ultimately you are the one who will decide.
These are just my honest opinions.
imo - of the used phones in this pricerange - the i9000 is the best value: good screen, lightweight, great custom roms.
what about CM9 and CM10.1 on GALAXY S.does it full functionalling just like camcorder, camera, wifi, games etc?
Yes functioning fully. But i can only answer for CM10.1... I didn't use CM9.

Thanks but what about GALAXY S camera's night mode, does its better?
cuz somehow i read that GALAXY S has better night mode than Led flash.
No, because there is no LED flash, using camera at night using SGS1 produces very bad quality pictures & videos.
It is recommeded to use the camera only at daytime.
Thanks,just a one more thing,should i buy GALAXY S plus or Galaxy S ?
cuz they boths are cheap in used price
You can search at internet the specs of both phones.
I think S+ is better because it has a faster processor 1.4Ghz compared to S which is only 1Ghz.
Another important factor is the internal SD size. Bigger is better. Maybe you can check in actual both phones while negotiating with the seller.

yeah i checked.but confused about their specifications
- Galaxy s+ has better processor speed but its GPU chip is not such a better than GALAXY S GPU
- GALAXY S has a Hummingbird processor which is better while GALAXY S+ has adreno 205 processor which is an kinda ordinary for gaming
- Somewhere i read that galaxy s+ has more smoother ics running than galaxy s
S i9000
Hi.. i would sugest u i9000 (galaxy S)... i was once a galaxy y user.. just bought i9000 two months before.. it has gud development than any other S series.. when i bought S+ was cheaper than S... i bought S because of it has good development.. and i am currently using Slimbean 3.1(Andoid 4.1.2) its awesome smooth!!

And galaxy s plus is overclockable to 1.8ghz. If you are not gonna use it much for gaming go for s+. If gaming is a must for you, you can go with s.
BTW, s+ isn't that bad with gaming, of course with custom ROMs. I can play mc4 smoothly.
