Seal Broken? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I bought my Samsung Galaxy Note I wasn't paying attention. The store I bought it from has a policy of openning the box up to show me the items inside. But I don't remember he actually openned it infront of me. I think it was open before he showed me its content.
The phone itself still contained the plastic protection from both sides. The batter was in a plastic wrapper also. Everything looked new. But the seal was broken. The store is big here in my region and I doubt they'd want to ruin their name by selling me a semi-used or returned item?
I am feeling unease because Galaxy Note is quite slow compared to my Galaxy S2. Rotating a random webpage is slow and not as smooth as when I rotate a webpage on my Galaxy S2. Clicking on the "net" it takes half a second for it to open whilein my Galaxy S2 it's instantaneous.
Is this normal?
How do I check that I have the correct Processor, RAM and all authentic internal hardware?

Install "Android System Info" from Market, choose register "system" and post your output. i'll compare it then.

I installed Android System Info but I don't know exactly what you mean by choosing register system?
Is it an option in the app?

Why don't you phone up your local Samsung helpline and give them the Note's IMEI and serial number found under the battery. The rep will be able to tell you if your Note is genuine.
You can also connect your phone to Kies on you computer to see if new updates are available to speed up the Note.
Also if you got the Note from a carrier, then new update will roll out slower than unbranded Note. But you can flash latest stock ROM from the development section.
P.S. You Note is on firmware version JPKJ4 which is very old from last year when the Note first came out. The latest is LA6 in Europe which offer much better performance, I'd update to it if you can.

That's definately alright.
but you are running an "outdated" OS. Maybe rooting and flashing custom ROM is fixing your performance issues.

Thanks all for the support.
I tried to update my phone but when I press on Check Updates I get a message telling me there are no updates available.

Your phone is genuine.
It might be old stock but you can always update it. As long as you have sales receipt, you have nothing to worry about warranty as well.
And slight delay in launching browser is actually due to animation of browser window opening. You can switch off animation by going into settings>display>animation menu.
And update your phone and other issues you are facing will most probably disappear.
S2 took few months of development and few releases from Samsung to get to this level where almost all bugs from the device are ironed out and its actually almost perfect.
Note is also almost there now with new ROMs (though huge official upgrade to ICS is coming soon)
EDIT : Root the phone and install CWM (check sticky here) and then install some custom rom. Or you can find all official ROM in another sticky in this section. you can flash those manually.

That is Over the Air update, if you connect it via Kies, it will check with Samsung server which might have new update for your phone.
Did got your Note with carrier contract?

Thank you all for your help.
I don't think I want to root it; unless it's a necessity?
I disabled the animation but that wasn't the cause of the problem. The responsiveness of the operating system is slow. I am currently using Samsung Galaxy S2 and when I click on the Web or rotate an image it's fast. When I am on my Galaxy note it takes a half a second to a second for the browser to run and the rotation of a webpage is SLOW.
Everything is slow, animation has nothing to do with it. Is the Galaxy Note basically a slower phone compared to Galaxy S2 due to the screen resolution or something?
I never updated my Galaxy S2 and never ever experienced such slowness. I'd rather browse and use my Galaxy S2 than deal with the chuppiness of Galaxy Note; it's that bad for me.
How can I update my Galaxy Note without rooting it?

I removed the power saving option (that my friend recommended) which is something that comes with androdi I guess (inside power saving section in the settings) and the performance was improved A LOT.
I use Juice Defender on my Samsung Galaxy S2 I guess the "System Power Saving Mode" affects your Processor's Power by a noticeable margin.
That was the cause of this performance change just in case someone else having the same issues. If you turn on System Power Saving Mode expect to have your system's performance compromised.
Thanks everyone for the help and support!

Read some forums about update because you have 2.3.5 version of Android, the latest is 2.3.6.And you don't need root for update.

sorry to let you know guys, but no dual-core from qualcomm supports dual-sim, only msm7227/ arm v6 & /a arm v7 supports, which are not at par
also i highly doubt if its a broadcomm dual core with power vr530/35 which is on most china phones, but i cant be sure , just adding my opinion
also the 512mb. is not good, seeing its gonna updated to ics & got a dual core may be qualcomm/broadcomm, as games & other stuff will strugle for performance due to lacking ram, same issues can be seen with optimus 2x & xperia play (sony not updating it to ics because games wont works well on ics + 512MB. ram) & you can also check playing mass effect inifilator on ics + on gb. & see the difference, it will crash after some time on bonus levels (the culprit is low ram)
,gonna buy it if it got 1GB. ram
+ no complain for wvga, we can use lower dpi as it got bigger screen,
m' gonna pay upto 17k if it got real s3/s4 qualcomm soc + 1GB. ram
yes, even Spice MI-425 also has msm7227 and adreno 200 so we need to see the specs of this MI-500 very closely.

Yeah 512 RAM is definitely a bummer....but launch is still a month away...maybe final specs are different...
Lets watch...
And 480x800/850 262K colors for a 5" screen(my guess)
I do expect atleast a 16m colors atleast for same resolution.
They could increase the price for a 720p screen and win the market...
For me the bummer are:
- 512 mb ram still (atleast increase by 256 to 768 mb)
- Still 5.0 MP cam
Not sure about the screen res as of now but definitely 840X480 could be OK if the color supported are 16M as its the same case with my Archos Tablet whose screen is quite crisp.

hi
this looks intresting may be ill wait for some time and then upgrade
i did fall in love with the HTC one X but it was t costly for me
but this looks ok for me thanks guys for the info
The Mobile Indian has put up a first look, looks like a Chinese variant being shown off.
The link
From the looks of it, looks like 480x800, 262k (not 16M) or my eyes deceive me
after one year spice mi 410 got its competitor in terms of spec and price.
this is just vfm.

hi
one thing for sure they are improving the looks now with the new range
screen in poor maybe 16m colour, but colours are warm similar to mi-410
also no led for camera(@ p5
but @page 1-2 they say it got a led flash
+ (doubt starts here) www.themobileindian.com/news/6935_First-Look-Spice-Stellar-Horizon_3
" Spice has used the same Snapdragon
processor as in the Mi-425, but a slightly
bigger 300 MHz GPU to tackle the extra load
from the larger screen.
Spice Stellar Horizon has a 4 GB internal
memory as well as 512 MB RAM which will also
aide its performance (Internal memory enables
faster performance)."
this site is one of the poorest reviewers
1. they say it got dual core on page 1 but on 3 they say it got same chip as mi 425
2. they say gpu @300 compared to mi 425, to cope with large screen, now how will it help as resolution is same i think wvga for both, 4" 5" dont matters, also as far i know on orig. htc desire adreno 200 was clocked at 92-108mhz. + doing 720p vid. rec. + play at highest, and if its adreno 200 as parkhi say & m conc. for dual sim thing, such higher oc' is not possible for old chip by 200% without liquid nitrogen cooler
+ if its really got a dual core, then it must have hd video rec. atleast 720p or something
3. + they say 4gb. int. mem. with 512mb. ram will help stability, now how int. mem. had to do anything with ram
any the themed rom looks cool with sauve hd icons
they are whole bunch of noobs, the indian mobile guys
spice had already used confusing adv. earliar also they said mi 270 dual core (cpu + gsm radio cpu for dual sim spp) & dedicated gpu @333 but there wasnt any gpu, some said the other radio cpu is gpu, i bought mi-410 becuase i know it was a ideos x6 variant but latter i knew it was foxconn and now we got no official support or anything, so i wont go for spice again>> this ome game is not good,
my next mobile-
sony> htc > huawei> ome > samsung
good bye friends m' getting myself a new phone next month, maybe a evo 3d so i wont be frequent to this forum
good bye guys, thanks for everything
i will still own this phone till it get sold
Nitin even I'm thinking of selling this but why Samsung is last in your list and is Huawei better than Samsung, What is OME?
Thanks
hi
the Bad part is even though Spice has so many showroom at least in Bangalore they do have quite a lot. They dont promote their own Mobiles in their show room
just walk in to any show room and u will have to ask for their own brand to get info on the same very sad in deed. if this was my show room and my Brand the 1st thing i would do is start seriously promoting my Mobiles
at least show it to every customer who walks in .I just dont understand why Spice does not do it

[Review] Note 4 SM-910C & SM-910S

Galaxy Note 4 SM-910C(Exynos) and Galaxy Note 4 SM-910S(Snap Dragon)
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is at last official and the following thing we're holding up for is the official release date.

Quick Review:
The display does not shock us as various leaks had officially uncovered that Galaxy Note 4 would accompany a 5.7inch Super AMOLED displays screen which upholds QHD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.
As we had said before it supports 515ppi. The presentation certainly seems rich and brilliant however the QHD determination does not appear to be the main real motivation to buy for Note 4.
Outline :
Weighing 6.2 ounces, the Note 4 is heavier than the 5.9-ounce Note 3. The extra robustness is at any rate part of the way because of the Note 4′s metal edge, however the back is still a delicate touch plastic. Samsung selected an all-plastic chassis on the Note 3. The Note 4 is likewise somewhat taller and thicker than its ancestor (6.04 x 3.09 x 0.33 inches vs. 6 x 3.1 x 0.3 inches).
Cameras:
The Note 4 steps up the back camera's resolution from 13 MP to 16 MP, however that’s not the only improvement. Samsung added in optical image stabilization (OIS), which is incredible at capturing shots enduring as you zoom in. The organization claims you'll have the capacity to zoom up to 8x and still get a sharp pic.
Samsung has made its phablet more selfie-friendly, boosting the front camera's megapixel number from 2 MP on the Note 3 to 3.7 MP on the Note 4, while conveying a 90-degree wide-edge lens. You can go significantly more extensive than that, however you'll have to enter an extraordinary mode.
Spen:
Not at all like alternate telephones, Samsung's Galaxy Note family likewise offers a stylus, or S Pen, which has additionally been enhanced on the Galaxy Note 4. The new S Pen offers consumers a "significantly more credible pen experience," as per Samsung, and can even copy composition on paper with a wellspring or calligraphy pen.
Battery:
That battery is pretty much the same size as Note 3, however Samsung says it will charge to 50 percent in 30 minutes because of Qualcomm's Quickcharge engineering. That said, I'm concerned the denser screen will lead the Galaxy Note 4 to have shorter general battery life than the enduring Galaxy Note 3.
Here is my View post your views and thoughts below.
i
because of ARMv8 & 64-Bit processors

Octa-Cores that work simultaneously

(i m not sure) better RAM bandwidth!
I prefer Exynos
Not very sure with which version I'll go for, but I seem to like Exynos, due to the HMP and lower clocked companion cores for battery life too
Also I'm to some extent familiar with the architecture of Exynos chips, so maybe it'll come in help while practicing development, but maybe I can learn about the Snapdragons too, the main thing I like about Krait architecture is the per core voltage control and dynamic body voltage adjustment on hardware level.

This time the Exynos 5433 is much powerful and faster as compared to Snapdragon 805 variant. The exynos is capable of running all the eight cores simultaneously unlike the previous version in Note 3. Morever Exynos's LTE modem is of Cat 6 category whereas that of Snapdragon is Cat 4. Exynos is equipped with a 64 bit processor whereas the SD with 32 bit. Exynos also marks higher on the Antutu Benchmark. Therefore 910c is the killer variant this time!

No, the Exynos has Cat4. while the Snapdragon has Cat6. Also, people are quite skeptical of the Exynos being 64 bit, in spite of the superior performance.
My bad! Yes you are right. ....Exynos is actually Cat 4.....I got confused between C and S. Thanks for the correction

No problem, Samsung has a nag for playing with the specs of a single version, so it's bound to get confusing. Here are the 2 possible specs at the moment:
1.
CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (SM-N910S), Quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450, 32 bit.
GPU: Adreno 420
LTE: Cat6
2.
CPU: Exynos 5433 (SM-N910C), Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 1.9GHz quad-core Cortex-A57 (Possibly 64 bit, most likely 32 bit).
GPU: Mali-T760
LTE: Cat4

How do we know which one is 64 bit among the exynos versions? What model would it be? I read the Antutu's benchmark tests a couple of days ago before the launching of Note 4. It compared the Exynos and the Snapdragon versions. Exynos was found to be superior. I wonder if same results would be maintained after the official launch?

I thought the same, but it seems that it is really 64 bit. Some information in Geekbench showed an internal "version" code for A57 cores. Maybe Samsung decided to not tell anything about it's 64 bit design because the S805 is still 32bit and they don't want to bother the users that buy the Qualcomm version. Hav read an interesting article about that. Will search for the link

There is no hexacore model, take care.

Ohh sorry, i meant octa core. 1.9 GHz Octa Core Processor (1.9 GHz Quad + 1.3 GHz Quad core) and 2.5G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz | 3G (HSPA+ 42Mbps): 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
Really? so the note 4 mentioned above is N910H version? There's no specific processor mentioned, just like that one above...

New Mi3 in 2015?

I just want to know if it makes sense to buy this device in 2015? I always buy midrangers and don't like shelling out more money. So, what are your thoughts on this? With Lollipop supporting 64-bit does waiting for Moto G 2015 makes sense?
I think yes . It' s very fast and good

I have a Mi3 and i'm very glad with it, bought it in February.
But if it was now, i'd probably go to the Mi4i, It comes with MIUI V6 based on Android L and it's a Snapdragon 615 (64bit)

The 800's CPU, on paper and benchmarks, yes. (Antutu on my Mi3, running latest beta MIUI V6 is on the 43k mark)
The GPU is not that different on actual performance, but the 615 is much more energy efficient.
The 800 (as well as the 801 and the 805), are beasts but warm up pretty quickly and Qualcomm's MP-Decision hotplug does not take very long to cap the CPU to half the speed, because the SoC goes very near the 60ºC mark in no time under heavy load.
If you read the news, that's why the 810 is a flop, they pushed the Krait architecture beyond what it can do, and they turned a mobile SoC into an instant frying pan.
Of course, you can always ditch MIUI, go to a Custom Rom along with some custom kernel, ditch MP-decision too, and go with manual frequencies... but then again, if you risk too much heating, the SIM card slot fries (because it's the only place on the Mi3 that expels heat more rapidly), the touch screen begins to take damage and after a while you'll be replacing it, and in the end it will render your phone useless.
Don't get me wrong, i love Krait based Snadragon's, especially the 800 and the 801, but the new 615 and alike, are made with smaller architecture and are much more energy efficient, which means, more battery friendly, and can sustain heavy loads for longer time, because they don't heat up as much, or as faster as their predecessors.
It's not the paper sheet specs that count in the end, it's the day-to-day real performance and behaviour that shows whether a specific SoC is really that good or not.
The PC world learned this some 10 to 15 years ago, when Intel lauched the Pentium 4's with ridiculously high frequencies, everyone was mind-blown to see those speeds right of the shelf, but everyone pretty much realized that those CPU's were pretty much useless in no time, unless you had expensive custom cooling on your setup. Qualcomm made the same mistake.

IMO SD800 is the better option. Here's a couple of reasons why:
* big.little is relatively new tech and needs more time to mature. It might look good on both performance and battery life fronts on paper maybe, but is there really any one phone in the market currently that beats current SD80X in both performance and battery life? (GSMArena's reviews suggest that Xperia Z3C is the recent gen phone that scores solidly on both counts and it runs on a SD801. One other phone with a better battery is the OnePlus One which also runs on the same chip.). The funniest thing that I find about SD615 is that big.little is supposed to bring two architechtures together as it was demoed using Cortex A-15 & A-7 clusters, but both clusters of SD615 are A-53 (A53 = 64bit A7).
* Both SD80x and SD615 are build on the same 28nm process. The HPM process also supports ultra-low modes which LP doesn't. More here: http://www.tsmc.com/english/dedicatedFoundry/technology/28nm.htm
* SD80x can give you both performance (on >2Ghz) and battery life (when underclocked) though not at the same time.
* Finally the Adreno 405 on SD615 is less powerful that the Adreno 330 on SD80x.
These are just a few reasons that came to mind. I am sure that I can find many more reasons if I looked around a bit more.
If you flash roms, go for moto G. If not, go for Mi4i

Sorry about the architecture comparison, i had the idea that the newer 615's and alike were not 28nm.
Still, does the 615 heat up as much, or faster than the 800 on the Mi3? I'd like to know more about that, because what i was saying was, the 800's are more powerful, but they heat up fast, so in some heavy tasks, they get capped pretty fast...
So unless you put it in "performance", the CPU and GPU will be put on lower freqs in just a few minutes of gaming for example...

You can see that throttling is not as bad as earliest SD800 in Nexus 5 and Note 3. This is because the 8274AB is actually the 3g version of 8974AB v3 a.k.a. SD801. More info here and here.
Bonus: Mi4i also suffers from overheating back. Video here
If anyone is wondering, I did get the Mi3 and it totally rocks!

[Q] Cyanogenmod 7.2 port to N7000?

Hello,
I wanted to know if there would be a way to port CM 7.2 on the N7000.
The i9100 has CM 7.2. Is it possible to install it on the N7000 considering that the i9100 and the N7000 have the EXACT same specifications, apart from the screen? (same chipset, same RAM, same CPU, same partition size etc.)
If not possible to do a direct install, is it possible to port CM 7.2 to the N7000?

No, don't ever do that. They are both entirely different systems and you will hard brick it.
Good to know, since I was right in the middle of editing the build.prop file to replace every entry of "i9100" with "n7000" )
Can you please explain how they are entirely different systems? In what way? Hardware and software wise, they seems exactly the same, except for screen size.
The specifics are not known to me but that's the rule of thumb. Each device has their own functionality so flashing for another device will nuke your phone.
I would understand if I were trying to flash CM 7.2 for the Xperia X10 on my Note, that would make sense.
But the N7000 and the i9100 are the same, apart from the screen. They have the exact same specifications :
-They have the same radio;
-They have the same chipset - Exynos 4210;
-They have the same CPU Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9. The i9100 uses 1.2GHz while the N7000 uses the same CPU, overclocked to 1.4GHz;
-They have the same GPU - Mali 400;
-They have the same RAM size - 1GB;
-They have the same partition layout and size;
-They have the same WiFi adapter;
-They have the same GPS;
-They have the same cameras - 8MP in the back with 2MP in the front;
I'm not a developer nor a coder and this stuff is a bit strange to me : if there is only 1% difference between devices, why wouldn't it work?
Or if that 1% really will brick my phone, how can I port the Cyanogenmod 7.2 for the i9100 to the N7000?

I'm not a developer as well but I believe it would go wrong just because. However, you are welcome to prove me wrong.
It's not about proving you wrong. I just want to understand.
Thank you for the warning, you are correct : there is a pretty big chance to brick my phone.
Or if possible, for someone to let me know what my chances of success are if I edit the build.prop to force it to install CM 7.2 for the N7000
Not sure of bricking the phone but the display won't work as they have different boot loaders and screen resolution.

Ok, good to know. Would it help if I copied the build.prop and updated-script from Cyanogenmod 9 for the N7000, over to the CM 7.2 for the i9100?
Dammit, there has to be a way, a very easy way to port CM 7.2 to the N7000. The i9100 and the n7000 are just too similar
I'm sure it can be done with a bit of tweaking, I just lack the knowledge for it.
No... It may flash but there might be no display. And most of stock roms doesnot include boot loader.. So you may have a hard time getting the display back.
I'm currently using CWM Recovery and DarkyROM Final so as far as recovery goes, I'm good.
I'll try to manually edit the build.prop and updater-script but so far, no luck. I went from "Status 7" with lots of asserts for i9100, to "Status6".
If someone would help me out with this, I'd be willing to pay a couple of beers (or for a case). Just that I get my paycheck on the 9th so until then, I'm gonna keep trying to fix it myself.
I will check this thread every day now. Waiting for your statement that you finally succeeded in bricking your device.

but srsly, if possible, I would hope to avoid that. Again, if someone can point me in the right direction or heck, even do the port himself, I'd be willing to pay a small amount, because salary and because food.
So yeah, at this point I'm willing to throw as much as I can afford (which is around 25~30E) at it

My question is, why do u want an outdated system like CM7.2? There are lollipop ROMs available for the n7000 so I don't see the draw of cm7.2

A valid point. Why go back to CM 7.2? Android 4.xx and above is great and comes with many options.
But at the same time, it defeats the purpose of a mobile phone : being mobile.
I think I speak for everyone that Android 4.x.x is anything but battery friendly;
Using Stock 2.3.x or for example, Darky ROM Final on my N7000, I get at least 2 days of battery life while : using internet, pictures, Whatsapp, WiFi, games and making calls.
Yes, Android 2.3 is outdated and is a bit "slower" through the menus but it's a small price to pay for what you should have always had in the first place : a mobile device that is actually mobile.
So yes, kind Sir : I will gladly accept your generous offer. PM me with the details, please.

display overclock huh? Thats pretty interesting. I always wanted to try the Razer Phone's 120Hz display but didnt want to spend the money just to try it out. Do you think the electronics in this will go higher than 65Hz? Or is that the limit from your testing?
I will be trying out your kernel as soon as my phone gets here, but unfortunately that might be a while for the Transparent Edition :/

well depends of the quality of the panels but i think mi9 can go to 70hz

Hey Guys!
Well here is some exciting Good News the GPU OC seems working fine it improved GPU score 5K+ more on antutu benchmarks (currently 610 MHz-25 MHz more than Stock Freq) i think we can go higher but for that i will need more testers and yeah motivation too
Also Currently i have done Display OC to 65HZ to the ea8076 panel since currently i got that panel if there is others i will OC it too maybe we can go higher too this will make damn lot smoother experience
The Benchmark was Done with Governor to Performance and DIsable Fsync but keep in mind also Device is throtlled about Higher Temps ,Anyway with Hard Work we can Unleash the Beast of MI-9 and hit probably 400k+
Anyway Working Blindly Is very Hard so Keep in Mind that doing this stuff is hard without device,The fundrase campaign is Open and i appearicite every donation!,You can Donate here:

I haven't even bought the mi9 (but soon will) and I already love this Kernel. Not that I am complaining, but 855 GPU is already more than strong enough (like 50% faster than the Mali in s10 exynos, and even that is more than enough for any games on playstore). I say: dont push your luck with further GPU oc (u may fry your chip ;-( and that would be bad for us all cus then no further development of this kernel ) but rather see if the CPU can go higher. If yes, then exynos won't have anything on this 855..

oh really? Thats very odd. Is it a matter of you cant access multipliers for the CPU(s)? And issue with the bigLittle config of the chip?
Do you have access to the base clock the whole things runs on? Maybe you could do tests with raising that which would increase the CPU cores, GPU, RAM speed, and ai cores.
