[Q] Need heimdall flashable CWM - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having trouble flashing ICS ROMS on my tab. I think it's an issue with my cwm, but I am unable to flash a new one through the cwm I currently have. Heimdall works fine, but I jave searched for heimdall flashable cwms and the only ones I can find are old and have dead links.
Does anybody have a heimdall flashable CWM?

Hmm, to get CWM, you should just be able to take a zImage from Overcome (if you have a compatible device) and use Heimdall to flash that. I do it all the time after I re-stock and it works fine for me.

Is that compatible with the VZW CDMA tab?

Overcome is not compatible with CDMA devices, but who knows the recovery might boot ok. Willing to give it a shot?

The cm 7.1 beta in the dev forum comes in a heimdall friendly format. I'm not sure if its cdma friendly however.

Check out this version 5.0.2.7 from RootzWiki.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11697-ro...ld6-0302/page__st__560__p__456270#entry456270
Download the .tar file in post #563 and unzip it into its own folder, follow the directions from there. When flashing I put the zimage in the kernel slot and the recovery.bin in the recovery slot (I saw on other posts people taking about only using the recovery.bin), and so far it has worked every time. Good luck.

yes you can just flash the i9000 rom you want, but after it boots up at least once, you'll have to flash a reoriented kernel to fix certain problems, including the incorrect screen orientation. there are a few of such clearly labeled kernels in the development forum, so take your pick. simple instructions: one-click flash the stock rom, boot normally, flash clockwordmod recovery, factory reset within clockwordmod recovery, flash your i9000 rom of choice, allow the phone to boot completely and establish a data connection, boot to recovery, flash a reoriented kernel of your choosing, boot normally and enjoy. hope this helps!

There are several kernels in the dev section, I would suggest either xcal , hardcore, or glitterball. Which is best is a matter of preference. How to install, there are several ways, replace zimage in rom package, odin, clockwork flash. What rom do you want to flash

Download the kernel you want. For example xcal's. Open zip and find the zimage. Copy it. Download rom you want. Find the zimage and replace it with the copy you made. Rezip rom package. You should be good to go

CWM Recovery

Can someone do a simle step by step tutorial how to get the real CWMR to rooted RotoV4 custom rom? All Odin files and stuf or a update.zip than really works.
I have tryed few thinks posted here and ended up bricking my tab and had to flash Roto again and again.
I need this badly for flashing things!

Use the kernal by Chainfire (2.3 version) that provides CWM3. You flash the kernal with Odin, then you can use CWM3 to flash future roms and kernals.
He has careful instructions included. Let me know if you need anything else.

Where can i find this?
It is a thread in the devopment section. For anyone needing CWM3 this is the way to go!
I would recommend flashing Paulobriens MoDaCo kernel either with RFS or Ext4 file system.
You can get it in the Dev thread.
Use Odin without pit and repartitioning.
Read instructions because flashing might take two steps to install Cwm.
I like this kernel with Ext4 for speed.
Cwm recovery is fully functional.

Quoted for truth... Modaco's kernel has a flawless adaptation of CWM. I've successfully recovered from backups a number of times with it. So long as your tab is compatible then don't bother with other CWM kernels. It just works.

[Q] Messed up - need an ICS tar kernel for Odin

This is the first time I've had this happen - see many others in similar situation but now it's me :-(
I was rocking the most stable, smooth and battery- life- loving setup of ICS ever on my i9000 after trying almost all of the Roms and kernels out there.
In the end the Elite7.1Beta worked amazingly for me and I set it all up just nice and really had no reason to start messing with it.
....So I messed with it (to get even better battery life) and flashed the B6 ICY Glitch kernel and then - bootloop.
So I need an ICS/CM9 tar kernel file (any with CWM recovery will do) that I can use to reflash the original Devil 15.1 kernel.
Believe me, I've searched and serched and simply cannot find a tar version of any of the main ICS kernels out there (glitch, semaphone, devil etc). Why are there no more tar files anymore? Am I missing something?
I've even tried extracting the kernel from boot.img using cygwin and a tutorial I found on the net - but being an untran00b I did something horribly wrong and now thank goodness I can still get Download mode.
So:
Can someone please let me know where I can find a .tar kernel for ICS/CM9 that I can flash with Odin? Or how to make one from a kernel .zip or boot.img file?
OR: Can I just flash a boot.img in Odin (doesn't look like it but just wondering?) I'v not tried that because I've messed this up enough already.
Any help greatly appreciated

well i was in the same situation and i didnt have ssdd48 to help me ..
try his method i have read that it works .. if not i believe there is a speedmod kernel which has a tar file google that
for me eventually nothing worked so i had to flash a gingerbread rom thru odin and start over .. good luck
Thanks for the replies guys. Managed to fix it in the end using Darkcore kernel which gave me working recovery (even though Gingerbread based) but really appreciate you linking me the recovery file ssdd48.
Cheers!
I have the same problem with B6!! But I use the ssdd48 way, and it works perfectly (really thanks), after that y flashed again B6 via CWM and it works fine.
I might be wrong but doesn't Heimdall support flashing boot.img?

Interesting.
I just re-flashed the ROM via CWM.
It includes a kernel.
If that didn't work, I'd use the kernel cleaning script, and the re-flash the ROM.
Hi,
I tried to flash the datafix for CM9 but it got me into a bootloop (using semaphore 1.0.1s kernel).
I flashed this file to fix the recovery but from here things aren't going so well...
I tried to restore my nandroid backup - didn't work (tried to restore only /system though, but saw it failed).
then I tried to reflash CM9 (19.4 nightly) - failed.
then I tried to reflash the semaphore kernel - succeeded but now my phone is stuck on the "galaxy S gt-1900 screen" (I can get into the recovery though, the one included in the fix).
What can I do now? I can't even get my phone to boot...
Thanks!

Yes!
I was having the same problem, for 2 times now actually. The first time I had to go all the way back to gingerbread. Now it happened to me a second time, I searched again and found a solution.
I think the rescue .tar doesn't have the right CWM in it to install the ICS rom. I've found a Odin installable kernel with the right CWM, its here:

P1000 stay on boot, ''Internal MMC checksum failed''

Hi all,
i bought a galaxy tab last month, and i installed cyanogenmod 9 nightlies. i was using without problem. but after 23.07 nightlies i got play store error. it wouldnt open. i saw that google account was removed. than i wanted full factory reset and wipe sd card and than clean cyanogenmod install...
Off course clockwork recoverymod was also deleted (i know i am stupid!)
Than i found some p1000 stock roms and tried install with odin. And i did it, installed rom without problem but when i turn my tablet on its waiting on boot screen. it doesnt turn on. stays on boot.
I found this when i was on recovery mod (tablets stock recovery) SEE ATTACHMENT PLEASE.
Now i have a tablet and i cant do anything. I think if i have a 3 files stock rom i can flash it with odin.
Do you know what do i have to do now? Please help me guys
You have gone this far for nothing.
No Play or Gmail means you just need to flash gapps.
I know people say nightlies no need to flash gapps.
But if gapps is missing, just flash gapps again.
Now you are at this stage,
use Overcome method:
Go to overcome site
Http://www.teamovercome.net
Read the guide,
Missing pictures can be seen here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20974872
Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Once done, continue to flash overcome kernel tar using Odin
and then boot to CWM recovery and flash CM9 twice
then flash gapps.
Hopefully that solve your problem.
yes, i found it here in xda, and it worked. but thanks for your reply, if someone has same problem they can read your message. it works

You can restock using GB stock safe v5 once, then flash your N stock GB again.
Or if your stock has pit file, you don't need GB stock safe v5.

Could you please post the steps as I am afraid to hard brick my tab again.
If you follow my signature, that will take you to overcome files.
The PDF guide is quite clear.
Anyway it doesn't need to be GB. You want pit file so Odin can repartition the storage.
There is a chance your internal chip is failing.

well, I don't know for sure.
But the P1000N/L has different touch screen driver in their kernel.
You can flash it using Odin and you can even use the recovery, since CWM isn't touch screen based.
But that is not what I am saying above.
You asked for guide, I said Overcome guide is clear.
Have you even download the PDF and read?
Page 7/8 has picture of what to put in Odin fields. You can put GB stock safe v4, v5, or whatever, a Panama or Trinidad based GB, or even Froyo, the picture is still going to be the same (or similar).
So, use your froyo, use the guide. (or not) up to you.

Ok I will try it. Thank you very much!
This error regularly happens when flashing stock ROMs. Then you will have to download and flash dbdata.tar as PDA in Odin (Google "P1000 dbdata.tar"; it's about 1.25MB or so). This solves it for me and a few others.

OK so I am using the correct PIT, or so I understand. I even tried reflashing the dbdata.tar as PDA in Odin. Still no change.
Could this have an affect on the modem of the tab as well and cause it not to read the sim?

No clue, never had to reflash my modem. That may have introduced a wild variable into the equation, because usually the dbdata trick fixes that problem.
I advise starting the whole Overcome restock process from the beginning. Try to ignore the modem part.
YAY! Fully rooted with SU and BusyBox Installed. I restocked to Froyo with PIT and Re-partition, then reflashed Froyo again (no PIT). Then flashed the dbdata.rfs.tar file. Then I was able to use Superoneclick to root and install SU & BB.
Thanks to each one of you for your help!

[Q] Ok, I've bricked it!

I've a i9000 and i9300 which I don't really use so I thought I'd do some updating.
A while back I put CM11 on the i9000, and put it on the i9300 yesterday, then I thought I'd root them, that's when the problems started!
Booted into download mode and used Odin to put the firmware on, it reports successful but the phone doesn't boot past the first screen.
I used the CF-Root file -XX_OXA_JVT-v4.3-CWM3RFS.tar but I've also tried JVR, JVS, JVU, JVZ and JW4 out of desperation....with the same results.
I'm glad I started with the i9000, and I'd like to try to recover it, but I'm at a loss now :crying:
That CF kernel is for stock JVT. Hopefully you didn't try it for CM11?
It would last to flash a full firmware, reboot once, and after that you can flash compatible custom kernel (same image contains also custom recovery).
We have quite good sticky threads in this section that can guide you. Which Odin version did you use? 1.83 and 1.82 are the last ones with full compactibility for the i9000.

Recovering the phone as above also puts ClockworkMod on, but it fails to install the ROM with file signature errors, trying both the CM and Gapps gives the same error.
Also trying to install ClockworkMod using heimdall as I did previously also give an error

All I want is CMmod back on again!
After quite a few attempts at different ways and a few 'black screens of death' I've managed to get it completely back to stock using heimdall following this. My head is spinning!
Now I've just got to start with CWmod and CMmod again. Now it's stock I'm tempted to try and root it.....but that was the start of the problems last time!
After trying to root again and another bricking I decided to give up with the root!
The issue is when trying to install CWmod I get the same error as in post #4, which means I'm completely lost now as the phone was back to stock.
[email protected] Ok coming from a Windows background I forget about case, and the CMmod wiki is incorrect. The issue is as I've had my head spinning so much I forgot I did this last time!

You have to flash a stock firmware and after that compatible kernel for it, as kernel and recovery share the same image on the i9000. So unlike other devices, the recovery can not be flashed separately. That's why the kernel must be compatible with the ROM.
If you have flashed once ROM based on Android 4.3 or higher, your partitions sizes have been modified and you must flash also PIT file together with stock firmware and enable re-partition.
tetakpatalked from Nexus 7 flo
Yes I've also flashed the PIT, I used the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
which included it.
I will try to recover it using the sticky at the top of the forum then try CWmod again.
Thanks for the help [emoji3]

If you're using Heimdall, be sure to use v1.31 as the later versions aren't working so good on the i9000 anymore.
Do you use Linux or Windows as your PC's OS?

I'll grab an older version of Heimdall as I think I downloaded the latest.
I'm using Windows (7 64 bit).... along with it's USB driver idiosyncrasies

I restored the phone to stock from your instructions at the top of the forum, then tried a rooted ROM.
Everything went fine, although I'm not sure if I had root access (as it worked I didn't bother to check). Then I tried CWmod but it still failed to install, so went back to stock again.....it still wouldn't install
From the ClockworkMOD website..
Download recovery -- you can directly download a recovery image using the link below, or visit clockworkmod.com/rommanager to check for the latest version of ClockworkMod recovery for your device (if your device can be found there).
Recovery: Semaphore_2.7.4.tar

If you use their link (me being lazy did) then it fails, but go to the website and find the image then it works!! It's a slightly different filesize, so maybe a different version?
The ironic thing it that on the CyanogenMOD site it mentions that the phone hasn't got to be rooted to install it, but what I didn't realise was CyanogenMOD it also installs a different firmware...which is rooted!!
At least through all this I'm a bit wiser as to flashing the phone etc :good:
@eusty Rom Manager app is useless for i9000, except for reading the names of nandroid backups.
