hi guys this is a general post so im sure i have the right sub-f,
Im an assistant head chef, i arrived at work today to find some items stolen from my service fridges. presumably staff helping themselves after i leave.
i have a spare samsung galaxy s gt-i9003 i plan on hiding in the kitchen and broadcasting the camera through USTREAM app, obviously the cons of this are how long the battery will last
i would like to know if anyone knows of a way i can make the video record for say 2 hours only so hopefully the battery will last until morn and i can come and save the recording, i believe if the phone runs out of battery before saving the video it will be lost right?
ok guys update i found the the motion sensor pro app., but it seems to only take one pic every 20 seconds, any video ones? ps. i am searching its just im on a short break which is why i indicate the urgency.

Try checking if there are more motion sensor app on the market or over the internet. I had a program I bought off appbrain earlier last year that I was able to set the amount and time of screenshots to be taken.
But they are all battery intensive
only one i could find that works is that motion sensor pro but that has a 20 second lapse between photo's....... not very good for its use ill have to look into putting it somwhere close to a plug and leave charging still hunting thou

Is it me??? Or is the camera on the Tilt sub par? Once the camera actually takes the picture it's somewhat decent, but it's getting the shot that's almost impossible.
I realize that this is a "Camera Phone", but come on. The delay on the view finder is horrible, it's so blurry and slow you can hardly find the subject you want to take a picture of. Once you finally find your subject and press the execute button, it takes 5+ seconds for the actual picture to be taken; by that time, the subject has moved and the picture is blurred. Every time I take a picture of someone, I have to pre-warn them not to move until I tell them to. The delay sucks no matter what setting the camera is on...
My wife has a blackberry pearl and the camera is much better; the view finder is real-time and not sluggish. The pictures come out very nice.
Is there a program out there that will better the camera software? Something???ANYTHING!!!
Mine also is very slow to take the picture, but it is very good quality once it does. Very clear, and the resolution is fonally good enough to do something with...
I have a good camera that I use, but my razor did a much better job with taking a quick snapshot. I did not get the tilt for the camera but if it was more usable (like a $100 camera from 3 years ago). I would use it more.
I have to capture to main memory to use even though I have a fast 4GB card in the tilt.
Welcome to 3 months ago. This topic has been discussed to death. There is no known solution (yet). The problem is most prevalent in low light situations.
Can you point me in the right direction for that Thread? I've done searches and can't seem to find the thread that discusses the camera issue.
Thanks.

I've used the new camera app provided by Nadavi (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355587)
There's three videos all were taken with my AT&T Tilt (Dutty's v3 ROM). Please note that videos are in reduced "youtube" quality, they are significantly better quality in the original file. If you want the originals, I'll upload them somewhere.
First is Ballys' fountains at night. Shot on the street around 11pm:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jqJcmJc8y_s
Second is a video I took walking inside the hotel. The lighting is pretty much correct in this video, it wasn't that dark, but it definitely was dimmer than your usual work/home environment (hopefully, lol):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jZHh1Yh4zAI
Third is the video I took inside MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. This is one of their night clubs. The environment is actually not as dim as video would suggest, it's was little brighter.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=q3HjDFlACNU
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Theve videos WERE NOT posted to show or prove that AT&T doesn't need proper driver. I whole-heartedly believe that IT ABSOLUTELY MUST have drivers and I will fight alongside the community for their release till the end.
THese videos were made to show that with newest Nadavi's camera app Kaiser can take pretty damn good videos and pictures.
I'd also like to ask a question - if Kaiser can take such high-fps videos when there's a bright object in the center - perhaps we need to look further into the issue of how Kaiser's camera is focusing on dim objects. There was a thread somewhere about that.
Wow, that's not too shabby at all. Was the on-screen view as quick as the recorded video while you were taking it?
fps on the screen was the same as the movie's. Not to say that i dont have extremely low fps sometimes. i can make a movie tomorrow with very low fps.... i'm just tring to get a vetter understanding of this
wow
wish my tytn II can do that
Your TyTn2 can do this. All I have that may be related my camera operation is Dutty's v3 ROM and Nadavi's camera app.
My camera is still slow as hell.. Can you tell us in details what you did to make your tilt camera fast under low light condition. i think we would all be really grateful.
which camera app? got a link?

Guys, I didn't do anything. I installed the Nadavi's camera app and changed the settings a little bit. I decreased the brightness to -1.5, reduced sharpness... there's a thread in here somewhere that lists all the good specs for kaiser's camera.
The problem is that I do have the same exact problem you guys are seeing. For example, my office at work is poorly lit - it I point camera at the lamps - i got excellent fps. But when I point down, to say, my table, it reduced to about 2-5 fps. Point at my laptop - again high fps. I will post the video later.
What I'm trying to say is that there's more to this than the drivers, I feel. Why is Kaiser making excellent vids at night with few bright objects, and making horrible video with poorly lit office? As far as I can tell - there's one major difference. In first case we have no-light environment and few bright lights. In second case - whole environment is lit, but pooly, with no objects sticking out. Why is Kaiser trying to compensate in second case, and jsut makes a video in first case?
I will post the low fps video tomorrow..

Sorry for coming on like an ass but thats the Belagio.
Thats pretty fast!! I have the app but when I record it drags everything. We should have a benchmark thread on all the big rom releases, and compare them with the app and with out, and on the OEM roms.
Here are the specs. Aside from having 3M resolution, and brightness at -1.5, mine are like his:

Hehe yeah I guess u're right. We visited many hotels that night.. but that's not the point!!! Lol
I usualy have 3-5FPS in video mode, but when I press the power button to get the device to the stand by mode, and wake ipt up after a few seconds the framerate increases to about 20FPS and my videos looks as good as the videos shown in the first post. Without this "trick" my videos are just crap
lol
thanks yyyyyy
but it was to be the slide wake, not pressing the power button again.
that wuz awesum i can make vids again!!!

Could you please explain this a little more clearly?
Ok here's another video from same configuration. Notice the drastic change in FPS when brightness of the object in center changes. It seems that if u point to something bright then FPS goes up, even if its dark around it.
PS: could u elaborate on how u increase FPS by powering down/up the kaiser?

Wow this trick actually works. To clarify for those that don't understand: When your in Camera or Video Mode click the power button on your phone and let the phone be off(Standby) for a couple seconds; when you turn it back on by pressing the same button the FPS will increase to about 20FPS.
One problem I found out is that it does not adjust the brightness anymore so everything will sometimes look too dark (at least in my room it did)
EDIT: Now I found a thread that clarify's this better than me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365345
The main problem with the TyTynII camera is NOT to do with any missing drivers.
It IS to do with the fact that HTC opted to have an automatically enabled 'Nightmode' when in low-light conditions. If you enable 'Nightmode' on your normal bog-standard video camera, you will get a low frame rate just the same.
HTC need to give users the option to manually select 'Nightmode' so we can then decide ourselves if we want low-framerate/high-lighting or vise-versa..
maybe in a patch or new ROM???

I completely agree. This is a very valid point. Whilst I agree that HTC misrepresented the graphics ability of this device and should be accountable for this, I am noticing an increasing trend to ascrbie most problems with the TyTN2 to the missing graphics drivers.
The danger of doing this is that investigation into other solutions will just tail off and this will go from being a developers forum to a consumers' one.
After all, if the slow IE scrolling had been written off as driver related, there wouldn't be an excellent cab floating out there that could fix it so easily!
This has happened to me now several times and it is annoying the hell out of me. I take a batch of pictures and then go to gallery to view them. On several occasions now the pics have not been there or some of them are there but not all of them. If i then go to my files, then DCIM there are two folders shown. One called camera that holds every pic i have taken wih my phone and another called thumbnails that also holds every picture but for some of them it holds up to 9 copies of it, all with different long no's associated with it. Then later or after a reboot if i go back to gallery all of the pictures are now available to be seen. One minute i love this phone and think it is amazing, the next it just bugs me. Another thing i hope someone can throw some light on. When i take a picture and then choose to share it via message, it seems to send as a 5 second video with play and pause buttons on screen rather than just as a picture. Have i messed up some setting on my phone. Any help appreciated.
Oh final thing, you can tell it has annoyed me today, i find the picture quality indoors to be worse than useless, even setting it to night settings makes no big improvements. Took some party pics and to say that everyone was underwhelmed when i showed them was an understatement, i was embarassed and scrabbling about saying i dont think i had it set right. A phone that cost me £380 and every one of my previous phones, costing a lot less blows it out of the water for pictures indoors.
p.s. yes i have a digital camera that i use as well but loved my previous Nokia N86 for being able to take pics any time i was out if need be.
Oh and by the way, happy new year, i am genuinely sorry for the rant, but would appreciate any help offered.
Cheers.
pps. i do feel better after that, must be therapeutic.
hmmm as for the first problem, im not pretty sure what causes that to happen
might include what firmware/rom ur running to help find the cause...
as for the second problem, id suggest moving from the phones camera app and download vignette from the market. why u may ask, software wise it might not be as user friendly as the bundled cam app but the results are much better, dont take my word but test it out and tell me how much better ur pics turn out to be.
in general yes the cam/software/processing is not better than those old phones (hell my old c905 SE outperforms the SGS's cam wether with flash or without)
Hi all,
I've had my T for a week now after upgrading from an iPhone4. Originally I was eyeing up the 5 and the S3 then I spotted this little underdog that I hadn't even heard anything about. After scouting around for reviews it grew on me and after seeing it in the flesh I was sold and managed to get the last one in the Vodafone store.
I've never had an Android phone before, so I was a bit wary, but so far it is pretty much everything I expected it to be and I am really happy with it...
But I have spotted a few niggles and I'm wondering if other users have had noticed similar issues?
1) Auto brightness seems to jump around randomly at time and makes the phone look like either a. it's struggling to cope with what it's handling or b. it hasn't been implemented right and for some reason jumps between levels instead of smoothly raising or lowering the brightness. This doesn't happen all the time, mostly on the net, but I've also seen it while navigating the OS.
2) The camera is really slow to take any decent images. Quick launch boots to the camera pretty quickly but then it sits there trying to focus for the next few seconds and makes the quick launch seems pointless as it hangs fo so long after it has launched. Also any movement seems to blur the images pretty easily. Took pics of my 3 year old and my wife while we were bowling and even their arms moving as they walked back blurred!? The rest of the pic was great but it's not like they were running past the camera or anything.
3) When using Chrome does anyone else have it duplicate the last letter of every word you type? Alll off myy wordss weree lookingg likee thiss wheneverr II typedd anythingg. This wasn't happening anywhere else on the phone and after downloading FireFox I've got a decent browser, but I'm intrigued as to whether or not it was something I was doing?
4) Whenever I copy a video across I am only able to play 2-3 minutes of it even though it says that the file size is correct. All of my videos are .avi and whenever I try to copy them the phone my PC asks if I want to convert the files so that they are compatible with the phone. When I click yes my PC takes 45 min's-1hr to convert it and the file appears on my phone as a few hundred Mb but next to it the time dislpays 2-3 minutes duration. When you play it it cuts out at the 3 minute point. Is anyone else suffering this?
5) The storage capacity of the handset is only showing up as 10.8 Gb of which 1.08 is reserved space. Aren't these handsets meant to have 16Gb? Those figures are shown through the PC Companion and the settings tab on the phone.
So is anyone else experiencing the same niggles as above?
I still love the phone and I'm more than happy keeping it. I know some of the issues are down to my education but others definitely aren't and they'll end just being qwerks of the phone. If there's any way to resolve them then I'd be greatful to hear your solutions.
Cheers,
Stu.

That's 10.8GB for the data/storage partition. They left 2GB for app storage only. 13GB total after formatting + OS seems about right.
I have the duplicate letter/word, think it's a chrome thing.

I thought id ask this here..
Does anyone notice when playing back recorded videos on the device, there is a weird knocking / grinding sound while the lens is focusing?
I will upload a few videos, you can actually hear the device focusing, might be normal, but, it was never like this with my arc....its apparent on multiple set scenses, with both the UK Generic and UK O2 firmware.
I've not tested video recording yet, but the camera module is very close to the left microphone (the phone records in stereo). I am guessing you can hear camera noise on the left channel when playing back?

#1 try an app called Lux.
#4, try using MxPlayer, not the stock player... Also you don't have to convert the files.
#1, my Galaxy Note was the same until an update. Remember this is a brand new device and the software will get better with time. Apple don't get it right either but that may have been because you were holding it wrong

I'm using MX player and haven't had any problems regardless of what I throw at it (so far).
#5, a trick manufacturers use is to quote storage as 1000 bytes = 1kB, 1000kB = 1MB when the system reports actual memory based on 1024 bytes = 1kB, 1024kB = 1MB, etc so you get less reported than in the marketing specs.
Thanks for your input guys.
So far:
1) Autobrightness turned off and everything is good.
2) Still not too impressed with the camera. It takes too long to focus and do anything useful.
3) FireFox is still working perfectly compared to Chrome.
4) After deleting all the videos and copying them in from scratch, unconverted, they play perfectly with MX Player.
5) The memory thing makes sense but its a poor sales tactuc on the manufacturers part. In reality the customer is only concerned with how much useable memory a device has where in reality the Xperia T has a third less than you would expect. 1-2gb wouldnt be as bad but thus is over 5gb difference!!
Thanks again guys.
Noticed the camera lag seem slow when taking the pictures but whenever I look back on them they don't seem blurred.
So far I reckon Ive deleted between a third to half of my photos due to blurring.

Might sound a silly question, but how are you taking the pictures?
I ask because I started off using the camera with the screen off and just pressing the camera button (utilising the quick shot feature). In this scenario I had blurry photos and rubbish results half the time.
I changed the camera button behaviour to just launch the camera app and then press it again (or use the on-screen button) and my photos have been good pretty much all the time.
Hold either camera button to focus.. I rarely get any blurry photos
Sent from my Xperia T
Quickshot seems borderline useless for image quality. But on standard photos after I wait for it to focus, even the slightest movement seem to really blur the image. On other photos it can take that long to focus that you miss your shot.
I've tried taking the ISO settings off auto today to see if that helps.
So far it's the only thing that I feel lets the phone down compared to what you would expect it to be like when you read the spec.

The only other thing I can suggest is there might be a fault with your phone. Do you know anyone else with a T? Do you have the same problem if you take pictures with their phone?!

I'm going to go and have a play with another one in the shop over the next few weeks when I find time just in case it is my phone but some how I just think it's the way it is.
So far it's my only remaining issue but it's not a deal breaker I still love the phone and look forward to JB next year.
I've been scouring the web trying to find *current* info about the overheating issue, but all I'm finding is stuff from last year. Nothing new about whether it was ever fixed by a software path, or if current inventory has a hardware fix, or if Google just ignored it as they often do. I'd like to know if I buy a new Pixel 5a today, directly from Google, if it still may have the problem. I'd be grateful for any info, thanks!

I don't play games and I don't use 4k video on my camera. For me phone is great didn't get worm once, but that is just my use, pictures, fullHD video, chat, video calls, phonecalls and browsing and watching videos.
I meet this problem when I take photos or video ([email protected]).
I have had issues by simply using Android Auto in my vehicle in less than 10 minutes of use. I have also experienced the overheating when recording videos even though I have followed all of the tips in Google's support email.
If I'm using Android Auto, I have to keep the phone in front of an AC vent in my car - otherwise all radios shut off within 1-2 minutes, followed a few minutes later by an overheat message (at that point it's already throttled so bad that the phone is completely unusable anyway).
Any teleconference app that uses the front camera causes it to shut down all radios about 1-2 minutes before popping up the overheat message with no warning before turning off radios (Zoom, Mychart, CVS Minute Clinic, Teladoc, even a Facebook Messenger video call). Drove me crazy trying to do a telemedicine appointment with my doctor, he finally called me instead.
Even just trying to do a phone call with Google Maps running during the call makes this damn thing overheat. Taking it out of the case (Spigen Slimarmor) seems to delay it by about a minute.
Honestly, if Fi didn't require me to keep it active for 120 days to keep the discount I got on it, I would have run the damn thing under an 18 wheeler by now. The only benefits over my old OP8T are the camera app and the physical size. That's it. Luckily I still have it, so once I hit that 120 days, I'm going back to the 8T.
Has anyone tried alternate ROMs to see if they handle the overheating issue any better? I'm especially interested in LineageOS. I imagine some kernel changes to scheduling and clocks could handle things better for this processor.
