Hey guys,
I've always had HTC devices, and this is my first non-HTC phone.
I'm pretty familiar with HTC's RUU's, but I'm a bit confused with my Note.
I rooted my phone, and installed CWM and 3.0.15-franco.kernel... but stayed with Samsungs stock Android.
Now, this morning I received a mssg saying I had an update available, which I said yes to. After restarting, the phone told me that it was impossible to apply update.
Now I check for updates and there are no longer available.
I'm on 4.0.4.
When this happens again, how should I update? Why can't I see the update again?
D
That is just a notification..
After u flash a new rom u will get it..

So I have the latest rom.. Cm6 rc3.. I got this by using the one click Root method.. the app that you had to have, i don't have anymore due to wiping my phone..
I reinstalled the app and pressed unroot to see if I still could... I couldn't..
I then pressed root and it said that im already rooted..
By wiping my phone and losing that app, am i now stuck on root?..
I read somewhere around these forums that once gingerbread comes out for the nexus one, the people that have rooted their phone with the one click method will lose root once they update to 3.0.. Like everything will be back to normal, stock everything.. it'll be like you have never rooted in the first place..
Is that true?
P. S. I do love being rooted tho lol.

most update will make you stock again, just like when update to froyo
but then some genius here will figure it out and BAM we're rooted again, so no worries man
ANY OTA update loses root. Just wait til gingerbread comes out and let Cyanogen or Paul gets root working on it before you flash it. Most likely it will erase all data and you gotta redownload and resync everything.

Creating the rooted rom is pretty easy. The problem is usually for devices that have updated to some manufacturer update that locked the device down more.
Stock updates reverts back to stock as many have already said.
Hi all,
I recently sent my Nexus One in for the power button to be repaired. It came back no problem, however it did say in the e-mail that HTC would flash 'the latest version of android' during the repair process. My device came back with android 2.2.1 and will not update. I have had it back 4 days now, and have been checking system updates and running checkin's. Yet nothing. I'm in the UK if that helps.
So the question is, why is it not updating? How am i going to get it to update? Should i just root it and manually update?
Sounds like your have the vadafone rom.

So HTC have flashed the Vodafone ROM back to the phone :/
Why would they do that?! Ill just have to root again.
After I fixed my soft bricked captivate it was reverted back to éclair which I was aware of, I clicked check for updates and my phone found one which I assume would be froyo. I clicked install or what ever and after a minute or 2 the update failed (can't remember what it said) I tried it again and my phone told me I'm able to check for updates in another 23.5 hours. I called att and they told me that they'll call me this time tomorrow for assistance. Is there another way to update to froyo?

If you have your heart set on stock, you'll need to use a program called Kies Mini - it's available through Samsung's site, and that should get you going where you want to be.
Mini Kies is safer than the OTA update that perma bricked many. Once you've modded your phone (rooted, etc.) kiss OTA goodbye, AT&T made it so you can't do OTA updates. I am pretty sure Mini Kies is on Samsung's site download it and follow the instructions.
edit: just looked up you beat me to it, lol, I type to slow!
I have mini on my pc, guessing that's how I got froyo In the first place. So I just hook phone upto pc, open keis and that's it?

That's my understanding. I personally haven't used it, but that sounds right.

About 10 days ago I received the OTA update to 4.2.2...
For your information... My Nexus is rooted using SuperSU and ClockworkMod 6.0.2.3
After reading about people losing root etc and having to redo everything, flashing SuperSU and stuff I decided to postpone the update.
I was working at an exhibition and had no desire to flash SU and redo the worx...
This morning I sat down, connected my phone to my PC (USB debugging appeared) and my phone connected as a Media Drive...
I initiated the update and rebooted the phone and guess what... My phone is still rooted... Everything is working fine...
Am I the only one or is this normal and did I overlook a topic here?
Anyway and for what it's worth, I thought this info might be useful.
That's because CWM can keep root for you.

Great, didn't knew this...
Guess my discovery wasn't such a discovery after all
This is great news i didnt even know this lol so tell me guys is there anything i have to do or just root it and thats it im good for updates?
AW: Received OTA, upgraded to 4.2.2 and DIDN'T LOSE ROOT!
I thought that with a custom recovery or with root you don't get the OTA update offered at all.

I received the update, rooted and on CM... Kept everything else stock though and the update just came in... and stayed there for 10 days, couldn’t wipe the notification away. Anyway, I'm really happy it all went so smooth... Never expected it.
Cheers guys

It looks like you don't have a custom recovery installed. Try installing one, you know how I presume.
Isnt that going back to rooting my phone? I wanna stay unrooted. If i unrooted my phone i should be able to update my phone normally from my About phone-Update software. It installs but resets back to the stock

The only thought is you may have wrong recovery. I would suggest to run ruu for ATT if you can or Soff and then do it
I ran the ruu for at&t already. Domt get me wrong the phone works great i just wanna update it

Then that's odd issue. Your other options will be to install custom recovery and sideload or manually install OTA file.
