When to replace the battery? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on Prime HD 8.0 and the battery life is dismal. I wiped battery stat, deleted unwanted apps but the battery life is still too bad.I changed the ROM and the problem persists. So its not a software issue. My X8 is almost two years old so I suspect its the battery. Is there any way i can check battery health? The shape of the battery hasnt changed or anything. Any opinions?
Secondly, if I do have to go in for a battery, should I get the EP500 standard 1200mah battery or the Mugen Power's 1300mah battery? Has anyone used the latter? Is the higher price I need to pay for the latter justified by better battery life?

Dont think that'll help. After charging to 100%, the battery drops to 90% after 5 mins of use!

My battery does that too on custom roms (99-90% in a few mins, but it drains a whole lot less after that). And it's not even a year old. Do try to flash back to stock with minimal apps installed and check the battery drain for just 2-3 days. I do think it's the battery, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.

my battery is one year old and it runs good. try wipe battery stats and use stock eclair for a few days. and make sure you dischard it to 0% ( you can even power on your phone) than charge it to 100% on stock eclair. make sure you have turned gps off and use 2G networks if you you dont use mobile data. ---- but I think you know that already. configure wifi sleep policy, brightness, turn off unnecesary apps etc.
If you have battery for cca. 2years. - its very possible that you need to change it. And I think you should but first try whats mentioned above

Battery draining from 100% to 90% fast is normal. Just FYI

Battery Monitor Widget

Using this on my O2x and went through all the calibration yesterday.
It's identifying my Genuine LG Battery as 1064mAh.
Surely this can't be right??
Although this might explain why the battery has been draining faster that normal for the past couple of weeks.
Is this plausable and is it possible my battery is on it's way out??
Try. Full charge and discharge it will show 1500

That's what I did on this battery.
I ran it down to 1%. charged it back up overnight and it showed 1064mAh
Mine says 70%, 4014mV...hhmmmm. will wait till it gets 100% and see what the battery will be.

battery life

hey guys
in the last couple of weeks ive flashed about 5 roms which consider to be good.
i have to say I really like android but one issue keeps me frustrated
and thats battery life.
how can it be that my friends iphone battery lasts so much more then my galaxy s1?
ive gone through numeros guides decreased brightness to minimum
stopped syncing my gmail account and other stuff as well.
as time goes by im regreting not buying iphone when i had the chance
because battery is one of the most important things in a smartphone.
currently,
i am 25 years old student studying computer science in the university
which means im out most of the day.
its not that rare for me to be stuck without battery and its so frustrating.
i ask for your help please,
what is the best rom for s1 regarding battery life
and has hebrew on it?
(im from israel)
thanks alot mates!
Have you ever calibrated it after flashing?

Dropping to 0% is the worst thing a LI-ION battery can experience.
There are some calibrations methods around, you can try some apps but I think you ROM just needs some time to calibrate the battery sign. Are you running a zillion of apps in the background?
Another option is to buy a new battery with more power. stock battery has 1500mah. but you can get a battery with 1800mah for your s1.
Did you wipe battery stats in cwm?
Disable mobile data or switch to 2G only it helps a lot. Phone will drain battery if you have a bad signal
I have to second the disable the data connection recommend. Also your battery life will get better the longer you use a rom and the more charge/discharge cycles your battery sees. To be clear that does not mean 100%-0% every time just regular charging.
I'm personally on GB and with data disconnected for most of the day and the 1800mah battery I have been on the same charge for almost a week and still have 30% left. It's truly amazing!!

Dropping below the minimum voltage is what you're talking about, and that's not possible because of the controller on each battery. That's why the phone dies when it hits 0% (or thereabouts) even though it still has plenty of power left over to run the device. Running a full cycle on the battery will be just fine.

[Q] Dead Battery?

I'm pretty sure my stock battery has died after just over a year of usage. However I just wanted to check with you guys whether it's actually flat or if my phone is faulty. The battery will last about a day with minimum usage, but if I turn on wifi or data it will literally die in a matter of minutes? This is the same with every rom and I wipe battery stats. So would buying a new battery solve the problem?

Is the shape of your battery regular??
If not, change your battery not rom.
Note:due to overcharging, shape of battery may change, happened with me.
Minimum usage would drain battery so fast to 0%.

Sorry, shape of my battery? What do you mean by that?
Your battery has been heavily used. It's life is over. These are the symptoms of a nearly-dying battery. When you replace with a new battery your phone will function like normal again.

U can test the phone if is he draining power too much whitout buying a new Sga battery. If you can find some battery like Nokia bl-5c(i use it sommetimes) or some battery similar pins (+//-) to fit it in and try it on.
Test old sga battery.
Try to charge your old Sga baterry in a univerzal charger,do not worry abouth overcharging beacuse it got to protect it.

[Q] Galaxy S I 9000 Battery Drain Issue

Hi,
I am recently facing a heavy battery drain issue with my Galaxy S. The battery drained fully even in stand-by, within 10-12 hours.
So, I now replaced with a new battery(the battery was already 2 years old).
But, with this new battery too, it gets only around 20 hours of light use(3G, Music, Video drains the battery a lot). Also, the battery never shows fully charged unless it charges for a full night. though it reaches 100% around 3 hours, but still drains within evening.
I got my motherboard replaced recently, facing a network issue and was using the old battery for the first 2 weeks before replacing it with new one(1650 mAH).
So, my question is, whether the problem is related to my battery or is it with my motherboard?
Can anybody help me in this??
Are you using a custom Rom
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium HD app
was using, now reverted back to stock rom... still d same, barely lasts half a day.. with nearly no usage....
Also, the Battery monitor widget says the capacity is 1500mAH, but this is a 1650 mAH battery, the voltage level seems to be ok

I know this is going to sound strange, but is there any specific app you are using when this happens, the reason I ask a friend uses facebook and it drains his battery from a high percent down to 0 and shuts off the phone in less than a minute.

[Q] I879 battery life

I have flashed my Att I897 with RemICS JB rom, and then I ran the battery dead. Then I fully charged it and it doesn't last 5 hrs now. I even calibrated the battery. Any ideas, or is this normal with custon rom?
Have you tried any other roms? Download a battery stat app let it run a few days and see what's using up all of the battery. Did this happen prior to flashing or no?

I have been running this rom for a few weeks, with no issues. Then went out and bought a new phone, and my brother needed one so I gave my I897 to him . I reflashed it, to clean everything up and let him put on the apps he wanted. And the battery does with in 4-6 hrs. I will d/l the stat app and see where is goes.
I have another I897 runnig the same rom, on my daughters phone, and it has great battery life still.
added thoughts
if your brother is making heavy use of the phone, with screen on much of the time, then 4 to 6 hours is normal.
running the batt dead once shouldn't kill it. there are protections in pm chip to stop before batt voltage gets too low.
aging, as in several hundreds of charge cycles, will reduce batt capacity to half or less of original capacity.
---------- Post added at 05:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:17 AM ----------
oh, and swapping the batteries between the two phones and running a few days will tell if battery age is the problem.
I'd say it's time for a new battery. 2y old battery has significantly reduced capacity. I'm using original Samsung Epic 4G Touch SPH-D710 1800mAh battery, fits well in Captivate with stock cover. Battery life is very good for a smart phone. Stand-by >48h easily, holds >18h with about 2h talk + 3-4h screen on. Currently on SlimBean 2.5 ROM. Search eBay, it's about $15 only. Avoid cheap noname 1800mAh (or even more "on paper") Chinese batteries, usually the real capacity is well below claimed capacity.

I was getting a good 10 hrs on it till I reflashed it this last time. I had great battery life with that little phone. That includes texting and FB'ing talking
I have 2 more and I still get great battery life.
I've never tried RemICS JB but I'm in doubt the ROM itself is causing battery drain. I'm getting almost same battery live with CM10 Stable, PAC-ROM, SaltyBean SE, SlimBean. Currently running SlimBean. Make sure it's not an app you install after flashing the ROM. Never restore system data from your previous ROM, just user apps + data. Look at the battery panel and you'll see what is draining your battery. Btw, clearing battery stats does nothing. You can't really calibrate the battery. Android OS will adjust battery meter automatically after 2-3 recharges.

Yeah. I found out one prob was he was trying to charge it with just hooking it up to a pc. Know it seems back to normal since he used the wall charger, for a overnight charge
I've charged from the PC many times with decent battery life results... Don't know if that's the reason why the battery life has been cut short.
A good way to gauge what is causing the battery drain would be to do as ValD said. See what is using up the most battery life from the battery panel and try to deduce it from there.
Have you tried full wipe, re-d/l the ROM, and flashing the ROM again? Double check the md5 or sha1 code from the website when you d/l the ROM too.

yeah, some PC only provide max 100ma per port, which means ~ 15 hrs. and the cap in phone for usb is set to 350ma, or about 5 hours, unless you have kernel that supports fast usb charging.
still, if the phone was charged to 100%, it shouldn't matter whether AC charger or PC used. Was he not charging it to 100% ?
fyi, the difference to phone is that pins 2 and 3 of usb are shorted in AC charger. This causes phone to allow higher charging current, up to 900ma, or as much as battery can take without overheating.
