I'm making a costume that needs sound reactive LEDs and this is what I have come up with using four 1.7 volt .02Amp LEDs and two 3.3 volt .025Amp LEDs in con junction with a 6 volt power source and resistors. I need to know if I made my calculations properly for the resistors before I out this together and melt some LEDs. This is my diagram and the respective ohm values for the resistors. Any help or insight is appreciated and will get my thanks!

AdamOutler or connexion(there are numbers at the end that I don't remember) could help if you don't find any here. Do a search for UART and you should find some threads with electronics guys in it. I'm sorry I can't really help you. I build simple things. The guy at my local radio shack helps me when I'm having trouble. Sorry that's all from me, but hopefully you find someone.

Your radio shack guys know about electronics? The guys at my local radio shack are literally idiots. I remember buying an antenna for a customer after the digital conversion, and I told him exactly what I want, he had no idea what I needed. Found it myself. Or when I bought banana plugs, he said I HAVE to get a solder gun and solder to solder the cable to the plug. It's been half a year and the speakers are still playing and no soldering was needed.
As per the OP, I had physics 1 year ago, and I don't feel like thinking about circuits right now. lol

If I'm remembering Physics from last year correctly it seems to be okay. I (amps) = V(voltage) R(resistance)
Edit: Whoops, I forgot to put the / in the equation. I=V/R

That's the equation I was using, and this is my first self built circuit so I was was ted to be sure.

Voltage= (Amps)(Resistance), and in this case what you need to use is R= Voltage/Amps
From the looks of things your LEDs are all just acting like little resistors themselves so you need to add the total resistance for each series of resistors and LEDs because they will act as one single resistor. Your total resistance in a multi-parallel circuit is actually less than the sum of all your resistors if you had them in series with one another.
Dang. That just got a lot more complicated....

It's actually not too hard. If you need help with it let me know and I'll try and do it later.
If you could I would LOVE YOU!!!!! I feel like I got it right though I've used other peoples schematics as a control and it seems OK i didnt think of counting the led themselves as a resistor in the system, haven't seen people do that in their calculations. I've also used a website http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz but it didn't have an option for different types of leds so I'm unsure. I also asked the recommended person but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. So any assistance is welcome.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Your total Resistance should be 110 Ohms. You can recheck yourself if you like. Add up the top series and the one right below it, then do 1/(1/R1+1/R2). You can now treat the top two series as one single resistor. Repeat for the series right below those two and then count those three as a single resistor and repeat for the last series below the top three that you are now treating as one.

I'll tell you now, that having found this test from another forum, the average results on that forum thread were slightly off from the norm. I explain that by reason of tech forumites may have slightly anti-social/anal/OCD tendencies as a whole.
My personal result was way off the curve. I'll tell you what i score at, once a few of you have taken the test for yourselves. If you'll be so kind..."
So if you have few minutes take the test and report your findings. Be as honest in your answers as possible.

If you wanted to see our ocd answers you should ask questions like this
Your 1 month old phone gets a small scratch at the top right, Do you,
A) Buy a new phone, either the same or different model
B) Start looking at the prices for a new digitalizer and start work
C) Leave it its only a scratch
D) Make more so it blends in

I just re-ran the test to see if my score now is anything like what it was as i remember it being a year ago. It was 1 point different.
To be fair, knowing what the test is about introduces all sorts of bias and error, and any good scientist would write it off in an instant as being completely unscientific. The nature of the questions could leave the subject answering in a way that produces a desired result.
For example i could set a test titled 'Are you a Psychopath?'
Q1) Somebody steals your sandwich from the staff canteen. Do you:
A) Find out who it was and explain to them why you are upset.
B) Find out who it was and plot your revenge.
C) Batter them around the head with a staple gun until they are unconscious.
It does rely upon the subject being as honest as possible with the answers and hopefully not skewing the results too much.
Anyway, more results before i give it up...!

That's actually very insightful. And the reason i didn't mention that the A in AQ stands for Autism, and the reason i mentioned OCD instead, was in the hope that people would take the test without having pre-conceived notions about what the answers 'should' be. Basically, my way to make the test a little more scientific.
i.e 'OCD' answers would be different to 'Autistic' answers, although they may share a lot of the same, underlying pathology.
I see your point , also Lmao definitely C, but that's a bit light of a punishment still

I have been working on a project to launch an Andrew Bell Collectible Android Figurine aboard a model rocket and "return him safely to earth" (in the spirit of the NASA Apollo missions). The rocket is named "Android1" and the Android Figurine is referred to as an "As-droid-naut". Anyway - I've had three successful launches of the rocket and the "as-droid-naut". The latest launch was this past weekend and I crushed my previous telemetry! 1438' @ 226 mph experiencing 13.3g's! Though I'd share the pix and vids with yinz.
I put together a website (personal - no ads - no money making stuff) to document it all: http://www.ANDRAC.co
Last weekend's flight: YouTube
Pix & Telemetry of the three flights are at: ANDRAC-mission-gallery - ANDRAC
Got some amazing (lucky) shots of the Android (As-droid-naut) ejecting @ 1438' in the Encore Flight. Here is my favorite (the nose cone is trailing the rocket now, because of the ejection event IE: nose cone pops off to allow chutes and As-droid-naut ejection):

That's something I've wanted to get into but never had the money. RC trucks. Uncle raced em for a bit, got to drive his, but that's as far as I've gotten.
Hobby lobbies around here don't have much selection. They don't even have multi stage rockets anymore. They don't even have the booster engines if you wanted to buy for the rockets you had from old. Haven't really checked into the hobby shops for em though. But man building your own and making multi stage rockets that separate in pieces is the awesome. It's just a progression. You'll get there if you stick with it. Wanting bigger and higher. Then you build something like this guy did. Addicting man.

rc is very addicting also and it does cost a lot thats one of the reasons i stopped doing it. i had sh!t tones of money in the jato, my revo was only half done. but now if my lil boy wants to do it when he gets older im a master builder now so we can fly right into it lol!
Careful - rocket launching seriously addictive!!! It jacks with your mind too - Every field I drive by now becomes a possible launch site candidate and I immediately start looking for power lines, high buildings, launch obstacles, etc.
Thanks for the kind words!
What is the legality of launching model rockets? Do you have to let the FAA and/or local authorities know about this? Also I'm pretty sure I'd get busted here in NYC for launching something like that, but I remember launching bottle rockets back in Junior High, and mine flew the highest.

If it goes a certain height, then you need FAA approval. But 99% of what you and me will ever deal with is totally legal.
Actually, here is how the "rocket science" of flying rockets works - it is not just altitude, but also power: http://www.doug79.com/stuff/HPR_metric9c.pdf

Yeah man, I was poisoned with good genes. I hardly look 36, but not in a Ralph Macchio kind of way. I just really don't look my age. Clerks that see my ID constantly comment on it.
So I guess, keeping with the topic of the thread, I collect years. Years I apparently haven't lived yet.
Random Question & not sure who to ask so i figured the great people at XDA might know.
I'm thinking of buying an electric blanket (My bed gets SO cold in the evnings/night) just to warm my bed up before I go to sleep, But i have no experance with them & know nothing about them. I've searched online & all I seam to find is either horror stories or people saying "Don't buy them, there not safe" etc
Well are they safe to use? & If so what should I look for? Is there ratings or certain safty things I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance guys & girls
I am using one since 3 years and I am still alive. Hope that helps.
EDIT: I actually don't like them alot cause of the wiring inside. I would rather go with a heavy blanket or sth like that. But yeah, when I gets fricking cold, I use them
Glad to hear your still alive! lol
Ahh is the wiring in them uncomfatable then? Would i not be able to put it under my sheet & it be hidden??
Links to said horror stories. Idk, maybe if you get one at the dollar store, the wires might break, but my mom and grandma have been using em for ages. No problems except they might wear out prematurely.
I don't need a sig, but would love a cig.

Water beds have heaters so they don't get too cold, if sleeping on electric heated water is safe I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with just an electric blanket. I would refrain from leaving in on unless your using it, same as any heater.

I think the general rule is that you should use an electirc blanket to warm the bed for half an hour or so before you get into it, but you should always turn it off before getting in. Leaving it on once you are in runs the risk of falling asleep with it turned on; possibly burning yourself or starting a fire

Damnit, you're right, LOL.
Get one from Argos, as has been said use it to wam your bed up before you get in then turn it off and pack it away.
Get a winter duvet too. John Lewis have a £1,000 duvet!
For that money I'd want a buxom woman with it to warm the bed
I use one every night during winter. I don't run my heat until I have to and even then not very high. I don't know the brand.... I do know I got it at walmart after winter when they were marked way down one year. Probably about 4 years old and still kicking.
I used to use one during the winter in my old room. Used it overnight and everything, kept me nice and toasty warm and not dead lol. Kinda wish I knew where it was (still in a box from moving), my room got down to like 55 last night. Totally my fault though cause I left the window open, but still lol.

Guys, keep it friendly or don't post please.
So I was out shopping with my wife and came across this. Thought it was pretty cool so I decided ti get it. Problem is that the base part won't fit the phone because it's too small. I'm trying to find a way to have it fit but not sure where to begin. .. any ideas? I(t's a Hype retro handset, but also included the base (or dock), which is where the issue is...

I really like the handset part. Just had a 3 hour long conversation with my dad and it was onky toward the end that my ear started to hurt a little lol.

what is it?
It is a retro styled device that turns your phone into a 80's style desk phone. You can either rest your phone in the base part (or dock) and connect it through the supplied 3.5mm jack or you can use the handset piece separate and also plug just that part into the 3.5mm jack.
Here I thought I was bad taking pictures
Guess its cute but how practical is it

It's something I could definitely see using at home. I had the phone in my front pocket and the handset hooked into the jack and was able to use it with no issues. The handset also has its own volume adjustment which is nice. That said, it's probably not for everyone...
It might look a bit strange carrying around the handset piece and using it in public hehe. For a relatively older guy like me (I'm 36), I grew up with these kinds of phones so it definitely appeals to me.
My sister in law just got herself the handset piece (you can buy it separate) and she likes it too.
The base (dock) will accomodate most other phones. But the Note 2 is too wide to fit the opening... so I'm trying to think of ways to either make it fit or some other solution..
Maybe this pic will help clarify...
That's my wife's Galaxy S3 in there..

I quick searched ebay but couldn't find the exact device.
The closest one I could find (and really nice imo) is this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Ret...256356?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4abf12bda4
I think it'll work on our phones, my only question is about that port on the back side that looks like a typical phone line port. I'm not sure what is it for, plus I cannot figure out whether the device actually charges the phone too..

I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Funny because they don't list it on their website either. The closest thing they have listed is the handset piece itself.. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=40088341&RN=2017&KSKU=203210&
Here's a couple box shots...

There is one 3.5mm female jack on the left side of the device that the handset connects to. The handset can either be connected to that, or you can connect it directly to the phone's 3.5mm jack. If you connect the handset to the device, there is a male 3.5mm jack that is used as a passthrough for the handset to connect to the phone. At the bottom of the device the hole you see is to pass a cord for a wall charger, so no, the device itself won't charge your phone. Hope that clears things up a bit.
