from a 16GB C6O to a 32GB C9O...my thoughts - Nexus 7 General

i am very pleased with my decision to sell my C6O a few weeks ago in anticipation for the 32GB C9O+ that came out this week. i picked up my 32GB C9O at Staples, and checked the serial number prior to buying it. a few thoughts:
- on my C6O, i had screen lift all along the left side, creaking, and screen flickering when wifi was being taxed heavily in low light.
- on my C9O, i have the tiniest bit of screen lift on the left, less than a fraction of a millimeter, and it's only in one small spot. after taking off the back, i too am missing two screws there. i moved one of the screws down and the screen lift appeared to move in conjunction with that.
- there is absolutely no screen creaking on the left bezel anymore on the C9O.
- i have only had the tablet for a day, but i did not see any screen flickering during high wifi usage last night. i'll keep monitoring that.
i sold the C6O for a slight loss, but taking into account the $25 Google Play credit, i only lost ~$20 or so. for the slightly tweaked/refined build quality of the C9O, i think this was the right decision. plus, i have ~28 usable gigabytes with the C9O, and that goes a long way when it comes to putting on ~8GB of music and ~15GB of movies. there's still room for lots of games while keeping 1-2GB free.
as for the infamous LAG thread out there, i had experienced lag on the C6O but went to 4.1.2 and the lag seemed to go away. i'm not 100% sure that was the cure, but it very well could be. i'm rolling with ~1.5GB free on the C9O right now and i haven't had an issue.
**EDIT** It should be noted that the C6O unit was basically perfect...everything worked properly, but i am just a nitpicker who scrutinizes every little thing on any gadget that i have.

I just got a 32GB C90 and the screen is below the frame which is good because on my Infinity the screen is clearly above the frame but hasn't moved or decided to fall off yet LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got this to replace my Playbook and wow it's soooo amazing it can easily fit into my pocket and I already had Poweramp on my Infinity so now that it's on here no need to take ipod anymore because it fits in my pocket and music sounds sooooo crazy compared to an ipod with Equalizer or anything like that.

Thanks for the observations. Will help me decide on 32 to upgrade my 8 or 16 w/ 3G.
Side note, do you really need 15G of movies with you at all times? Is that 15 1 gb movies or 1 1080p (which would be stupid) or two 720p's? I keep everything in the cloud or stream when I am local at home so I don't see the need for the space/sd card that people complain about all the time. Games I can understand. And before you say but I travel, unless your are ATrak or Diplo you dont live on a plane 24/7 so I dont want that as an excuse, just a genuine reason for the space need all the time.

I only had two or three movies on my 16gb at a time but it still filled up quick. Between some of the beefier apps out there, some requiring 1-2gb to run, backups of apps(mybackup and titanium backup) and one or two nandroid backups from different roms there wasn't a whole lot of room left. I might be an odd case though, I do a lot of flashing to my device so I need constant data backups for restoring my apps and at least one nandroid backup just in case something goes horribly wrong.

it's a valid question...i like keeping ~8GB of my most listened to music / favorite music on me at all times, but movies i do tend to cycle through. 720p movies tend to be 2-3GB apiece. 1080p is sort of overkill (especially for a 1280x720/768 tablet), but even for a normal big screen television, the size of a legitimate, high quality 1080p movie is usually huge and not worth it compared to the relatively smaller 720p.
if i'm going on a long weekend to NYC, it's a 4+ bus ride each way, plus tooling around during down time. with my 16GB, assuming i had about 1GB of apps and small indie games installed, 8GB of music puts me at maybe 4-5 free GB left. that's a maximum of two 720p movies. if i rip an older DVD, it's usually under 1.5GB, so that's three DVD 480p movies. that's not enough for a weekend as far as i'm concerned, and if i cut my music down to ~5GB, that still only buys me another movie or so.
32GB provides so much more flexibility. i don't know how people deal with the 8GB (~5GB usable) Nexus 7. people say all of their stuff is in the cloud, and while you can roll that way, cellular data 3G/4G/LTE networks are clogged up as it is, and most of us have data caps. public wifi is growing, but it's still not prevalent, and where you can actually find it, it's usually slow as hell.
the one way around it is rooting and using StickMount so you can bring along a 1TB or 2TB portable drive. the downside of that is that you need to have it dangling off of the bottom of the device, which isn't always convenient, and it also increases wear and tear on the microUSB port.
the bottom line is that having 28GB+ of usable space is totally worth it to me. i like having my media local and not in the cloud. if i'm consuming cloud media, it's usually on a secure wifi network in someone's home and it's streaming Netflix or something.

with 13GB usable space, and wanting to keep ~1GB free, you're looking at 12GB of real-life usable space. that disappears really fast. if you're leaving a nandroid backup on the tablet, that cuts into your space bigtime.
no regrets with the slightly higher cost of selling my 16GB and picking up a 32GB.

Im looking to get the 32GB and sell my 16GB. One way that I was able to save space on my 16GB was to encode my mkv with DVD Catalyst. A 4-6GB 720P was encoded using the "HD" codec for the device and come out to ~1.3GB. Some files are larger (~2GB) because they are longer movies (~2 hrs). The quality to me was just as good as having the mkv without sacrificing the space.
I am getting my 32GB later today, glad to see they are from the C90 line. I only had a slight screen lift on the C60.

I do lol I usually have full seasons of a TV show or three on my device for subway travel to and from work that's why I never buy devices with less then 32GB of memory. Also magazines for when I'm bored at work and those can add up in space too when most are 100mb+ sometimes in pdf format. Why worry about copying stuff ever few days when I can just copy a bunch at one and not have to worry about it for a week or two. As for accessing from the cloud not all of us have can afford $60+ a month data plans that we get charged here lol for mobile wireless.

Frescagod, if you can, I'd appreciate if you'd elaborate a bit more on the screws you spoke about, in terms of how you moved them and the screen lift followed. You see, when I hear people on these forums discussing "I just removed two screws" I can't help but to think, WHAT? Maybe this is an unfair comparison, but I look at it like, so I have an F150 and I removed some bolts from the body to the chassis, no big deal. I just don't see how less screws can equal no screen lift. And even if it does mean no screen lift, I would think the lack of two screws would attribute a degree of "buoyancy" or sponginess to the areas no longer secured by the screws.
Am I making sense? I'm finding it difficult to put these particular thoughts into words.
On the flip side, I have a C6O unit, which originally had screen lift - not terrible, but far from awesomely flat. My screen cracked without dropping it, at which point a small battle with ASUS resulted in a free replacement screen. My new screen has extremely little screen lift, and sounds much like what you described about your C9O 32GB unit. I'm halfway wondering if instead of an actual hardware refresh if they're just taking greater care at mounting the screens. After all, my body of the Nexus 7 remained the same - the only new item was a new screen - and the screen lift is nearly gone, whereas before it was much greater.
EDIT - Fun fact while we're talking about screen lift, I just noticed my HTC Incredible 4G LTE has more screen lift than my Nexus 7. There's a ridge around the entire front of the phone, and down in the lower left corner the screen is almost flush with the ridge - whereas the rest of the device it's perfectly obvious there's a well defined ridge in place. </endoffunfact>

I have a CAOK (C10) 32gb N7 from Office Depot. I have an extremely small amount of screen lift but I do have an abundance of the oil slick stuff going on when I press that left side at all. So from following the screen lift stuff, they started to remove the screws in the affected area. I bet they just did the same thing here.
The best trick is to put screws in ALL of the holes but use the washer trick on the affected area. This keeps the screen nice and tight and minimizes backlight bleeding and the oil slick stuff.
I haven't popped my back cover off to really look at it.

Random curiosity - to what degree do you have to press the left side to get the oil slick effect to come about? Does this happen with the average pressure you'd apply to a touch screen device? Or is this when you're, say, holding it in your left hand applying more pressure than normal so you don't drop it? I really have nothing to offer on the subject - just very curious. :good:

Player911, would you mind elaborating on the "washer trick"?

hey guys,
So i sold my nexus 7 16gb to my roommate and i'm 99% positive ill buy the 32 gb version. For checking what version it where on the serial number is the c90 or c60. Is it at the start of the serial number or at the end?
And are the facts that say certain version are better than others. I forgot what i owned but i had some screen lift, as well as a creak issue, so i want to try and get a solid version.

So do you guys recommending to get it upgraded to the 32gb? Or wait it to see if they add things to it

Still some screen lift? Hopefully there will be none when I get one around xmas...

Got a 16GB C70 exchange it after 11 days for screen lift and got a 16GB C80 small screen lift and some random lines across screen after 4 days returned and went to Game Stop and get a 32GB C90 rock solid at the moment.

After 2 RMA's early on, I now have a C70K 16GB and I have no problems at all. As soon as I got my 3rd unit I put in the iBlason folio style case. It is a pretty tight fit so I wonder if that helped with the screen separation.
I was thinking about selling my 16GB for the 32GB but I am leaning towards the "not worth it" side of the coin. I do not carry music with me or movies. I have about 10 GB left after a few nandroids and apps. I dont want to take a chance on having another RMA.
BUT...since the N7 is easy to open - I opened my first 2 - and easy to repair (according to ifixit.com) Im wondering if we can just swap out the logic board when 32GB boards become available.
Im not going to opt for the 16gb with 3G since I am going to be reupping my contract and getting a new phone with LTE. Verizon Share Everything Plan includes Hotspot. So if I have to, I will "tether"
But that makes me think....why not get an unlocked Nexus 4 on ATT or T-Mobile

I am going to stick with my 16Gb as its mainly a internet device for me.
Music is on my 32Gb iPhone, though I have a 64Gb USB stick which is filled with TV EPs and a few moobs for the tinlids. Once we get to 64/128Gb tablets then I will move on.

I'm guessing that C90 means the device was manufactured in September. Has anyone seen a Nexus 7 manufactured in October maybe after a few months Asus will understand what they did wrong..

Are there still issues with the screen cracking on the Nexus One?

I'm interested in purchasing a Nexus One but I'm reading a lot of threads and posts online via Google about screens cracking for no reason or after small drops.
The majority of them are dated from a few months ago. Is this still an issue?
Thanks.
Those are isolated incidents and not "issues".
Of course the screen is going to crack if you keep dropping your phone or sitting on it! That's one big DUH. I have when stupid sh*t like that becomes a big story.
Having said that, I have dropped my N1 several times (each time it was in pouch) and I sometimes carry it the front pocket of my trousers - no problem so far.
Now go and look at the following videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1sz5c-R9h0
&
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfqwKa4bT74
Hope this answers your question
I've never really dropped a phone since moving to the big screened smart phone devices... Until... I got my Nexus One.
I've only dropped it once but it was from about 3 ft up and it landed on its top (near the power button). All that happened was the batter cover popped off with the battery and there was a little scuff from where the stone floor took some of the finish off. No biggie. Everything has worked great since and that was back in mid February.
Im typically not one to drop my phones but the one I was most excited about I did in the 1st month. Only once though!
I gotta agree with a lot of people here. I was a bit nervous about getting my N1 hearing all the complaints people were having. I have not had a single one of them. I have no dust under my screen, I have no strange purple or green hue, my screen has not cracked and it's in my pocket all of the time. Sometimes I lean again stuff, or crouch down and think 'oh crap', but it's done nothing bad. I've dropped it twice, but it had a case on so I don't know if that's as reliable as anyone else.
People are saying the touch sensitive buttons are unresponsive, but you just have to hit the top part of them and not the center... which sounds like a hassle, but by day 2 or 3, it becomes commonplace and not an issue at all.
I get a full day of battery life, usually ending up around 30-40% by the end of the night, which is about the same (if not better) than my old WinMo based FUZE... and while some people complain about this, it's a common occurance in any smartphone (or superphone)... it's the price one pays to have a phone that practically funtions as a constantly running laptop.
I say these are all isolated incidents that people are blowing out of proportion because it seems to be human nature to point out the negatives more than to point out the positives. Any electronic device is bound to have a few bad units, it's just the way technology works *shrug*
It would be my recommendation that if you are looking to get an N1, you should. I don't think you will be disappointed, I know I wasn't.
And while you didn't ask, some accessories I would recommend getting if you choose to get the N1 (as this was my next hunt when I was looking to purchase my N1)...
The Case-Mate Tough Case... it's tough, durable, doesn't block out 3G or WiFi signals, fits perfectly, but adds some bulk (not too much and for me actually made the phone a little more comfortable to hold and less awkward feeling like I'm going to drop it)
http://www.case-mate.com/Google-Cases/Case-Mate-Google-Nexus-One-Tough-Cases.asp
And for a screen protector I use the Clarivue Ultra-Clear... I forget I have it a screen protector on there most the time it's so clear, and it's static based so no liquids or adhesives. Plus it can be washed and re-used.
http://www.clarivue.com/htc-nexus-one-screen-protector.html
also people need to keep in mind that the glass on the n1 is larger than the iphone (3.7" vs 3.5") so its going to be more suceptible to damage... this applies to the uber smartphones as well (HD2 and EVO with 4"+ screens)
there have not been any random cracked screen reports in a few months now, so i think the issue is fixed on newer devices.
Thanks for the input, guys.
I'm concerned because there's a lot of more results on Google for "cracked screen nexus one" than there is for "cracked screen htc incredible", "cracked screen iphone", "cracked screen htc HD2" and so on.
I also saw complaints about getting dust on the screen and the color hues issue.
I'd like to get a HTC incredible but I'm on HSPA with Bell in Canada. I don't know if there's plans to release it like they did with the milestone. So I'm considering the Nexus One.
And thanks for the cases suggestion, lostinbeta. It is appreciated.

Why is the NC so heavy?

I got to spend a good bit of loving time with a friend's Transformer today, and was rather surprised to discover that even with the 10-inch display and long battery life, the weight is shockingly close to the same as the diminutive NC. Why is that?
Rodney
In my experience the nook is a heck of a lot lighter than any 10in tab I've held but I've never used a transformer.

Because it's filled with love.
A long time ago I worked for a boiler room calling people up to tell them they won "one of five fantastic gifts" ranging from a camera to a new car. Well, because it was a scam the only prize that I ever heard being given out was a Yashita (no, not Yashica the once reputable photographic equipment company) 35mm camera.
Anyway, the crooks that ran the place decided that top sales that night would get one of the "fantastic" Yashita cameras. I was the lucky winner. The heft of the thing was impressive and it even came with an electronic flash!
I was so excited that on the way home from work I bought batteries and some film to try out my prize. A few days later I go to pick up the pictures from the drug store only to my confusion there were no prints in the envelope at all. Every single frame on the negative was black! A note attached that said something to the effect that maybe I should make sure the lens cap is off next time. Arrgh. The first thing I did when I got home was closely inspect the camera for light leaks but started noticing that there were numerous blocks of lead filling voids of the interior which gave a false sense weight (i.e. quality). After seeing that I gave up trying to find the problem as it lived up to the YaSHITa name. A few weeks later the owners of the business skipped town and screwed all of the employees out of that week's pay.
The weight of the Nook Color is probably attributed to the battery and metal framed housing on the back of the unit. The above camera story didn't really have anything to do with this but I wanted to tell it anyway.

It aint heavy....its my NOOK!!!
there is a kernel script to lower it!
I would say all the weight is in the bezel, my friend has a galaxy tab 7" and it is around 100 grams lighter although it feels more than that when comparing them. I guess the trade off is that I like the look of the nook color more than the galaxy tab 7.

lol, nice. by the time i got to the end I had forgotten what the thread was about
I would tell my friends "not to load too much of apps on the NC since they would make it heavy"
It's all in your head. The Transformer weighs in at 25-26 ounces where the nook Color weighs about 15 ounces.
I really don't think so. I haven't actually weighed the devices myself, but I've had 3 people compare them, and nobody believes the Transformer weighs twice as much as the Nook. By feel, they are very nearly identical.

lol, it is all in your head and your friends heads as well. My brother has a Transformer and it's the one thing he complains about that it's so much heavier than the nook and doesn't make it ideal for reading.
Having tried both, you can easily feel the difference in weight, and if you can't then you must have one seriously weak arm!!
Just put mine on a very accurate scale and i must have a nook light. Its only 440gm. Guess my nook doesn't need a diet.

The perceived weight differences is probably caused by the way in which the two devices are held. Since the nook is smaller, you hold it more with your fingers rather than your palm. If you're conceptualizing the weight via the torque you feel on your wrist then the device more held with the fingers is going to "feel" heavier. The larger device is held more with the palm, thus less torque on the wrist.
Could be completely wrong, but it sure sounds like it could be right.

Ha ha ha! I love it.
worst thread ever what the crap
Along with how you hold it, the weight is going to be distributed differently between the bigger and smaller device. So if you were say holding it flat on your palm to gauge it's heft, then obviously it's going to feel lighter.
The truth is, if B&N were to make a 10' nook it would most likely be heavier than the transformer. Every review I read for the transformer said it felt cheap compared to other 10' tablets and that it was lighter... Not necessarily a good thing, especially when there was originally a shortage on them.

Degree's of Separation

So I was reading about some of the problems with screen separation and had a question.
My device showed up and looked perfect except for a tiny(tiny!) part of screen raised about a hairs width on the left side. Had it about a week now with moderate-heavy usage, and haven't noted more separation, still less than a hairs width.
Now it may be splitting hairs (lol!) but I was wondering if I should attempt an RMA? Will it begin to separate more? Besides this everything is great, no dead pixels etc... and little screen thing doesn't bother me, but I don't want it to get worse and then be stuck with the device outside my window for RMA.
Thanks in advance!
Oh, my, I wouldn't replace it for that. Now, I think you COULD, technically, because yes there's always the chance that it will get worse. But if it does, you can deal with it as a warranty issue then.
If my first unit had only had the small amount of screen separation and not a dead pixel RIGHT in the worse spot, I would have kept it in a heartbeat. The second replacement I received has more separation, and also a screen with a horrible color temp--whites are a dingy yellow, quite ugly. The worst thing is, Google is telling some folks (me included) that we MUST return the original unit rather than deciding to keep it and returning the replacement.
Hell, if they'd let me, I would have kept my original, dead pixel and all, rather than take a chance on getting a third one with other problems (including the yellow tint, which I simply hate on tablets). Instead, I had to process another replacement which will hopefully get here tomorrow and be in good shape. Fingers crossed.
So, in short: if all that's wrong with yours is a tiny amount of screen separation, then for your own sanity I strongly recommend that you keep it and not worry about it. Stick it in a case and you'll forget about it quickly enough.

Besides this everything is great, no dead pixels etc... and little screen thing doesn't bother me, but I don't want it to get worse and then be stuck with the device outside my window for RMA.
Thanks in advance!

My first one was not significant, but with use it became very pronounced. The first replacement arrived with a fairly pronounced 'hump' on the left side of the screen. I don't think anyone is 100% sure what the cause is, but there are likely two reasons: the screws and the adhesive.
If the separation gets worse with significant use (i.e. heat), then it's probably an adhesion problem. If there's separation, but it appears to not get worse, maybe that's purely due to the screws? I don't know, just guessing.
As yours hasn't become worse with a week's moderate to heavy use, it seems unlikely it might suddenly change. However, if you're like me, the anxiety of not knowing will drive you up the wall.
So far, Google seems contend to keep sending replacements until I'm happy - my third device (AKA second replacement) should arrive this week. However, I don't like asking for replacements, I find it to also induce anxiety, so I'm really hoping the new N7 is going to be perfect.
My 4th and 5th Nexus both have exactly the same separation you describe and I've just put them both in a tight case a bought from amazon and not looked back.

Mine came last Friday (7/27) and is exactly like what you describe. I’m not going to do anything about it unless it gets worse.

Beware though unless you bought through the play store you may need to deal with Asus for the warranty claim.

Mine had a very slight raise on the left, I still did the whole "washer" trick which initially improved it, but I'm not sure if it was even worth it.
The other thing to check for is "flicker" - on auto brightness (particularly in a low light situation), open up Maps, and see if you see any slight flickering. I have this issue, but turning off auto brightness and setting it to about 30% seems to alleviate the issue.
Otherwise, my device is working extremely well - I wouldn't want to RMA for these very slight issues because I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't get something worse.

This whole "flicker in Maps" thing fascinates me, because I swear I've had it on every Tegra 3 tablet I've tried (Transformer Prime, Excite 10, Excite 7.7, Nexus 7). The absolute worse was the Transformer Prime, and it wasn't limited to lower brightness levels.
That really leads me to believe that it's something inherent in the Tegra 3.

I've heard this from several people now - although there are others reporting they don't have this issue at all with the N7, which is why plenty of people are sending theirs back for replacements. I would have to see a steady stream of "sent mine back, new one has no flicker issue at all" to consider doing an RMA for the problem. Because for me it just isn't that much of an issue, really.
I just returned a 16gb back to Staples and ordered one from Google Play. The screen was very dark and dingy. Whites were yellowish. The colors looked very washed out compared to my other Android tablets.
I didn't have any separation that I could find though. The silver ring was slightly raised all around the unit and my screen protector fit right inside there to make it flush. I just ordered a new one through Play store, so I'm hoping I don't go from bad to worse.

Nexus 7, My Thoughts

So the Nexus 7 is my first and probably my only tablet for the next long while. I have been a fan of owning Nexus devices since I got my Nexus S (Which is still on duty today!)
When I saw Google I/O I think we all had the same reaction... "WOW! A quad core, HD tablet with Jelly Bean and from Google, For only $199!" and I was no exception. After some thinking, I figured that I would probably enjoy owning a tablet and I went and got a 16gb model.
First Impressions...
The tablets box was just beautiful and I couldn't help but take a picture of it before opening it up. Simple, colourful and elegant. After opening up the box (Man that slip cover is on tight eh?) I was greeted to the 100% clean and clear screen and a small overlay showing the button functions. The tablet set-up was a breeze and looked wonderful, just like ICS and other JB devices all do, but what was sweet is the tablet some how entered my gmail address automatically for me, so I am guessing that is because it recognized the Wi-Fi network I connected her to, but none the less the first time start up took no more then a minute.
As I said I have a Nexus S rooted running JB so this is not my first JB device, but the Nexus 7? This was a whole new playing field for me. Every single touch and swipe was instant and smooth, much more so then my Nexus S ever has been. It to this day is running smooth as silk on the stock ROM. Well done Google.
Screen was very clear and responsive, not quite a retina display (I know, blasphemy) but still very very good. One downer was it's colours aren't quite as vivid as an AMOLED screen, but in fairness, they are more natural on the Nexus 7.
Feeling and weight wise was no compromise. The tablet feels great in the had and I can say that I can easily use it one handed for videos for a fairly long time before my arm gets the least bit tired. The back of this baby is textured just right in my taste. My parents have a Lenovo Ideapad and in my comparison, it is rather heavy, and after a while feels bad in the hands, but the Nexus 7 is curved just the right amount to be easy to hold, yet still modern in design so this one is just as Matias Duarte says: "Feels perfect in the hands".
After Some Time?
The tablet is still holding up as I have said with only one complaint...
I dropped this girl from about 2 feet off the ground when I got out of my car, and it feel on to gravel. It works just fine, but the damage to the silver outter ring was not very good looking.... It seems like a very easy to scuff little ring so I would be careful with that part... The screen to had a very very minor scratch which I often forget, but still is there and all from one very small drop. I guess I should get a case very soon hahahaa. Again, very minor drop and damage, but it reflects how it would handle if it were dropped while standing for example. Hopefully, I won't find out...
Am I satisfied? Yes. I am very happy with my purchase, and I recommend it to anyone really. This has fit into my daily schedules more then I have ever thought! 60% of the time I use this over my laptop for web browsing and YouTube videos. It is just wonderful for daily interwebz, videos, games etc. The build quality I assume could be better (judging from peoples other reviews) but to me it seems very substantial and I am completely happy with it, especially at $249 for 16gb.

And this is the damage if you were wondering. Keep in mind it is only from 2, maybe even 1.5 feet high from out of my car.

As for the first run problems, I am guessing they are there, but bare in mind... When there is a issue with a new device, you go online but when there isn't, you don't. Think of all the other tablets that are working fine that have shipped. For what it's worth mine is of the C7 serial.
I agree devices no matter how cheap they may be, should ALL be put through equal quality control. Asus I think is doing a decent job with their devices, and my Asus laptop is handling better then better. Call me a fan boy but I think it really is a pretty good device. As for the comparison people make to cars, there is none. Often times I wonder if cars are built like disposable cameras these days but what ever. Phones are not wonderful either but most all the ones I have had, have done their work.

[Q] Question about display

Hey everybody, well I just got my pair of tangerine Google Glass this morning and am currently running the set up and update to xe12. During both of which I can see about 5 lightly colored white specks on the right hand side of the screen. Is this normal or can anyone else explain why they are there? I called glass support and asked and Chris answered that they may just be from shipping so I wiped all sides of the prism with a clean micro fiber cloth and I can still see them. They almost look like stars in the distance if that makes sense. Anyway I also asked about the protective film that is installed on booth the front and back of the prism and Chris said those are suppose to stay on and are permanent so I shouldn't remove those. Any ideas would be appreciated. It's not a huge deal but still something I noticed right away. Kind of like dead pixels on a cell phone or tablet display.
I didn't have it but I went in for a fitting a few weeks ago and it still feels like it was just a blur

Yep that's exactly what they are... dead pixels. My Glass has two from what I can see and they are along the bottom. Now when I first noticed and contacted Glass support I was told since the 2 dead pixels were not interfering with the function of Glass and I could still very clearly see the display, that it was not enough to warrant a swap. This being a beta or prototype, it won't be perfect so unless it hinders you from using Glass you may not be able to swap. I'm hoping my hardware swap will be flawless ?

Thanks for your reply. I've actually decided to return my pair of Glass for primarily battery life concerns and actual use case scenario's. I've found that instead of Glass being a companion to my cell phone it has really become just another separate entity and that is usefulness in my everyday life doesn't currently justify the $1,700 I spent. The battery drain and drop overnight for unknown reasons is very troubling and needs to be addressed before a consumer release. 3-4 hours of real world use just isn't enough for me. Anyways good luck to the rest of you explorers out there and I'm sure I'll be rejoining the forums after the retail release. That is as long as the price is reasonable enough and my issues have been addressed from the pre-release version.

I've found the same to be true. The entire left side of glass is empty, why not have a battery on that side... I think years from now they'll be selling dual display glass, where the left would display one set of info, and the right could have another. It's so early though, there's not even an option to look at a "photo" app. I think the entire setup needs a little rethinking. Why not have an "APP" card where you can scroll through apps? and a "Gallery" app where you can see photos/videos you've taken, once the cards have gone so far you've lost that picture completely unless you connect to a PC or use your phone.
Lot's of things simple things like displaying date/weather on the main screen or controlling brightness manually aren't even options?!? I see this going another route once it gets out of the hands of the current folks at Google, it's like Android is one way, and Glass is a totally different entity itself at this point...
Getting my $1,620 back and buying some parts for my Mustang! Good luck explorers, I've had fun but it's just not there yet.
