[Q] Undeletable playlists, any ideas? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've somehow managed to sync 3 playlists to my WP8 that I cannot delete. The Delete button in the playlist list in the music app does nothing for them, and if I delete them manually using the file explorer, they just come back after I reboot.
A factory reset gets rid of them until I sign in with my Microsoft account which suggests that something is syncing them every time.
Microsoft is aware of the issue and I should be hearing back from them "within 72 hours" but I'd still like to get this solved ASAP.
PS: The playlists themselves are single files that have no file extension and no content. I believe they came originally from Zune (which then synced using the Windows Phone 8 desktop application).

Delete playlists for your computer (use zune to find em) then factory reset the phone.

The playlists reappear even when the phone is completely separate from the computer. Also, they've been deleted on my computer for awhile.
This is not user error, this is an actual bug, I'm just out of ideas on possible workarounds so that they might stay deleted.

You still have them somewhere...skydrive perhaps? or your email?

Had the same problem...from the root of the Music App, go into settings and turn off XBOX Cloud collection. Seems to do the trick, now only local playlists with songs show up...although this is a drag if you actually subscribe to the XBOX / Zune service...

Syncing contacts list

How can I sync or at least back up my contacts list and maybe even the calendar if possible, with my computer? Windows Mobile just crashed and deleted my entire system memory, meaning my entire address book was wiped out, and I don't want it to happen again. I'd like to know that my important stuff is still available on my computer if anything happens to my phone again.

Export to CSV from outlook. Or search the forums here for dozens of apps available.

Not a good noob question. Backing up has been covered ad nauseum. Check the WIKI,
Sprite backup, PIM backup, Phone -> USB Cable -> Computer .
It is not rocket science

ActiveSync 4.5 probs

Recently I've used the recovery dvd to reset my PC. I also have to install Active Sync. Strangely enough I couldn't install the disk that HTC puts into the boxes where you buy your phones in. The program says that you must install flash 8.0 or higher with a link that link you up to Adobe's website. I already did install the latest flash player. I uninstall it, reset the computer, put in the disk, hit the link, install the flash player again, restart again. Still the same message. After that I downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 at the website of Microsoft. It works okay.
When I put a new contact in the phone it won't set the contact into Word Office Outlook 2003. Otherwise it works.
I've tried to delete the device into ActiveSync and loaded up in it again but that won't work unfortunately. Please help!
Is everything else you selected to sync sychronising properly? It's not just simply that you didn't select the options when you re-installed?
Does ActiveSync come up with any error messages? It could be that you need to delete partnerships and re-establish them - in my experience ActiveSync is a bit 'fussy' when uninstalled and re-installed.
Whatever, make sure you do full backup(s) before trying anything - I lost all my data one time when an engineer 'tried' to re-establish my ActiveSync partnership!
My pc was completly turned up side down so I used the recovery dvd and that deleted the whole C disk, also ActiveSync. I do had to download ActiveSync from the website because the disk wouldn't run. And yes I do change some options.
It can not synchronised some contacts that I install on my Topaz. Installing contacts in Outlook 2003 to the device works, otherwise not.
It gives the warning code 1.
Sorry, not sure what to suggest here.
If NOTHING from the phone is syncing with Outlook (i.e. no Appointments, Tasks or whatever) it sounds to me as though it could be a problem with the firewall - if you have one set up. Try disabling that and syncing.
If it's only Contacts that aren't syncing, but it works the other way, I'm at a loss.
Worth looking at the Microsoft Support pages - but ActiveSync often seems to have a mind of its own!
Sorry I can't help.

It does Sync tasks, appointments, etc. Just a couple of contacts strangely enough :S
...and it won't sync NEW Contacts at all? I've had the problem previously where existing Contacts didn't get changed - ActiveSync seemed to have got 'confused' as to which was the most up-to-date version and I had to go through entire Contacts list making small changes, waiting for them to be replicated, and if they were not then deleting that Contact on both devices and adding them back in.
That's simpler than it reads - but if you can't add NEW Contacts from the phone I'm not sure that's the problem.
Sorry.
Thnx for your input
ive tried to synce my gmail contacts all goes well with the setup then it wont even sync i keep hitting the synce button and NOTTA. so i said fuc* it and did it all manually. must be a microsoft thing.

I can't delete my window live account on my HD7

For some reason when i try to delete my window live account the only option i get is sync and not delete like my facebook account.
I can't buy games now since i registered the account overseas and now i'm back in my home country. I can't download any games because it says i need an account registered to the country i'm currently in.
After registering i tried to buy games but i can't change the email address.
Is there any solution to this problem?
Just do a quick hard reset. Takes about 20 seconds with this phone.
You can't delete the main Live ID on the phone, as you must have at least one connected to it at all times. Try adding another one and then deleting the first one. Otherwise a hard reset will do the trick (at the expense of wiping your phone).
The thing is if i hard reset it i'll lose all my apps and it took me ages to download.
I tried making a new live one but it would only let me delete the new one and not the old one
As was said earlier, you cannot delete the live account, on which is your phone registered. It is not possible. The only way is to hard reset your phone and register it on different live id. But not even that you will have to download all apps again, but also, if you already bought some apps using the previous live id, you will have to buy them again because they are connected with the live id, not the phone itself.

the reason is simple: You can track your phone with your live-id, as well as delete or lock the phone, if your phone is stolen or lost. This is a security feature.
If it were just that simple to delete your live-id from the phone like your facebook-account, this feature would be unnecessary.

[Q] How do you sync hd7 to your outlook?

Hi all,
I just unplugged my sim from my X1 silver, and plugged it into my HD7. and then, after two hours...
1. how do you actually sync your phone contacts from ms outlook 2007 to it? I tried downloading zune, but nothing. The freakin' thing doesn't even have a manual.
2. I thought I won't encounter a problem since it's HTC and since it's WM7, and since my PC is win7 x64. But oh boy, this is getting in my nerves.
3. WM7 doesn't know how find a hidden (SSID) WIFI. I mean,.. Dang!
compared to any wm phones, just plug the hell into your pc, get wmdc, and then voila. 5 minutes tops.
XD
WP7 is indeed a different bird from WM. Hidden SSID is a known limitation, and hopefully gets addressed with the coming update.
I assume your outlook is not connected to exchange? If so, piece of cake, if not, you'll likely prefer (or not) to use a hotmail connector for outlook. This essentially creates a cloud-based sync.
Oh, and the manual is inside the box in a little pocket.
I managed to upload my msoutlook 2007 contacts to the cloud using OC32bit. almost a piece of cake. But, I'm having a hard time getting it to my phone.
When I try to add an account, it says windows live account is already added. but when I tap people. There nothing in the contacts list. None.
When I try to login to windows live via pc I can see all the contacts from there.
I... just hate it.
Talk about innovation, talk about the future. XD
Use Outlook connector and a hotmail account and everything works perfectly.
Hi,
Thanks! I manage to do it now. After spending a night my phone book has everything on it now(contacts wise). Too lazy to repeat it for calendar, lastly, I missed activesync so much that even your one note syncs to your wm.
I'm having thoughts on returning the phone and getting the android version (desire or X10) because of these:
1. hd7 only installs apps on what windows wants and not what YOU want.
2. it doesn't support pdf file for book reading, document reading.
3. I heard it doesn't open .doc .xls and any lower .doc files. (old docs still exist today unconverted)
4. I can't put files on the phone "ala USB flash disk style" I mean where's the plug drag and go, when you use the phone business wise. how do you intend to use the 16G space? (for movies or music; given the rumored battery life?)
Everything we do on our wm phones aren't easy to do on this wp7 anymore, I haven't reviewed at it before I grabbed my HD7 since I said to myself what do I have to worry about? I have grown from WM5, WM6 and WM6.1, what could go wrong?
I dunno I mean I hope I'm not babbling, I can't google if i don't open pocket ie and type google, I can't install opera, I can't browse flash sites I mean, youtube isn't the only streaming video out there. I can't install my garmin mobile xt, I can't install java app, I can't explore the contents of my phone. I mean this is freakin' alien windows i'm using. I don't even know if I can find my phone on over the local area (win7) network or homegroup.
With all the "I can'ts" I said. I thought I'd better off android!. XD
1. hd7 only installs apps on what windows wants and not what YOU want.
If you mean the app store is limited, yes it is. It's growing though.
2. it doesn't support pdf file for book reading, document reading.
Download the Adobe Reader from Marketplace. Free.
Haven't tried #3.
4. I can't put files on the phone "ala USB flash disk style" I mean where's the plug drag and go, when you use the phone business wise. how do you intend to use the 16G space? (for movies or music; given the rumored battery life?)
Zune. It's just a matter of figuring it out. It's different, to be sure. They also want you to utilize cloud based storage more. The offer free SkyDrive space included with your live account, and most of the MS apps can access that space. Other apps, like the eBook reader Freda, can connect to a DropBox account. Then there is Sharepoint.
I can't google if i don't open pocket ie and type google
Open up IE then press the capacitive Search button. Instantly takes you to Google.
I just found there's a google app in the markeplace too? and yes it grows every hour, its almost endless... pretty neat!
If you say it's just a matter of figuring it out, I hope I can figure it out with an option NOT to upload it on a cloud, since c'mon not all places in the world have super fast internet connection, I don't want uploading an entire folder up there then downloading it to my device.
And even if the chevron thing would work on my device, It would void my warranty so I wouldn't try.
After 2 days with my new phone, I feel much more comfortable with it now. I hope it would get even better.
Gotta follow this up since I don't want to start another similar thread.
I have another question:
The phone contacts (people) always have you on top named "Me"
question is, How do you actually link a contact to "Me"?
I just noticed it now that somebody asks for my bank account and of course, I'll look for it in my notes within my ms outlook contact under my name. I just found out that my name in my hd7 doesn't have a picture and doesn't have a facebook link(not that the FB link is too important), etc. and when I click the link icon in the bottom middle, I can link it to any other contact entry in my phone except "Me".
Technically speaking, the contact named after me in my phone is treated as another person. I tried signing on to windows live, check my contact there, found my name and the options I have is "add as a friend" which is really beginning to sound funny.
Long story short, I need to link my ms outlook 2007 contact(myname) to the owner of the HD7 phone which is me, so I wouldn't retype everything and delete the synced "myname" account since if i do so that would be deleted in my PC. I gotta have 'em both. but I wish I just could link it to my phone's "Me" account.
That's a toughie.
So the "Me" contact syncs up with both your Windows Live account and your Facebook account (which you add in services --> email and accounts, NOT the blue facebook app)
I don't see a way to sync the Me contact with another outlook contact.
You may want to take the notes in your Outlook contact and copy them to your Live stuff.

that's dependant on carrier... I get yahoo, you could get the google search app from the market or pin google from IE to the start so you can launch straight to google.

Yeah, not the blue facebook app. and I think I'll just have to deal with it having two seperate accounts the Me, and my outlook unlinked.
@frontieruk
Speaking about the search button, it is getting annoying when you actually hit the button accidentally. I hope someday a double-press (double-click) fix would make it possible.
I had a similar experience except that I got the "Me" where it's suppose to be the first time. Learning little by little, I guess Hotmail (windows live) is actually kinda cool.
Here's a good place to start. (in case yo haven't found it yet); Hotmail Tips

[Q] Duplicate files created by sync client

So, Microsoft released the Windows Phone sync companion for OS X a while ago but I'm getting some really weird behaviour on a Lumia 920.
I've granted the app access to my Music folder and I'm trying to sync some stuff from my iTunes library. However, whenever I do, some files will always reported as failed and 'ghost' files appear on the device (if you look at it through Browse Device). These files are duplicates of already existing files but aren't reported with a file size and can't be deleted either. If I select one, hit Delete Selected Items and then sync again they just stay there.
Now every time I hit sync whatever files have a 'ghost' copy get resynced so I end up with another copy of that file and usually also with another ghost of that file. This just keeps on going and going filling up the phone's memory and causing a load of duplicate files in the Music app.
I tried clearing the phone a few times through gphotofs and though that works to clear everything it isn't a particularly sustainable solution.
Is anyone else seeing strange behaviour like this? Does anyone have other software that can actually function as an MTP client to the Lumia on OS X?
