[Q] [Discussion]Android 4.2 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have seen 7 forums With Android 4.1.2:laugh: So why isnt anyone developing Android 4.2.1 for Our xperia x8

It's easier said than done. The devs are working on it. You should be thankful that you have 4.1 when your device actually came with 2.1. So I think it's better not to ask for more. It's almost similar to asking for ETA, which is not allowed here in XDA.

^this.
another thing is that as newer updates comes, our phones are not getting any younger. we should be glad we have 4.1. other than that, let's not expect too much. our devs are amazing, but if an update is too much for the x8, there's not much we can do.

[Q] Developer interest in this phone?

So are there already some developers with the intention of working on this phone?
Anyone planning an AOSP ROM?
It sounds like this phone has great developer potential - if it attracts enough attention it'll probably be my next phone.
If I will get O2X, my main point will be AOSP/CM support, this device NEEDS it...
As you say - this device has potential
I think i might get the phone no matter what. CM supports some of the Nvidia phones so I don't know why he would't add the 2x. Hopefully he does because my N1 power button is about to go and i am really looking forward to this phone.
I'm getting this phone I think....
I'm no dev, but more a supplier of roms and sources
I'd like to get this phone and if I get it, I'll spend my nights trying to get AOSP 2.3 running on it.

PaulOBrian (Modaco) Tweeted a while ago that hes probably getting the 2x.
+1 on that! My power button just died last Saturday morning in the middle of flashing a ROM. A little scary to say the least. Hope this G2X arrives soon, been waiting since it was first rumored!

I think optimus 2X is the best phone on the market now and it has great development future.

4.2 Worst ever update?

I haven't updated and have no plans to do judging by the sheer amount of complaints on here about 4.2, i don't recall ever reading so many people complaining about an update as bad as this before and it begs the question, what were Google thinking releasing an update that was so bad with so many bugs, etc and mores to the point can anything be done to fix it?

So... you made another thread to question the usability of an update you haven't even used?
Nice.
(fyi, I'm quite partial to 4.2)

Why do we need so many threads complaining about the update? Why can't you post in the same thread??

As another quite satisfied 4.2 user, I don't really appreciate your characterizing the update as awful.
Seems like a fine update to me - but I don't feel the need to open another thread to say that.

A couple of niggles that will be ironed out when app devs catch up with the new multi user setup but some good features already working.
I agree with the others here though, I hope your posting history isn't full of pointless moaning about things you haven't even tried.

+ 2,:good:
Hummm Yet again.. I think 4.2 does have some bugs.. I also think its thrown the developers into a Nightmare because of the multi user configuration. Same with apps now having to make storage location choices.. With that said its NOT Terrible.
Obviously you never used the first Version of Honeycomb.. Then the Update Update update .. that still ended you with a slow sluggish interface that Well i Will not go on . Other then to say Google was to embarrassed about it they would NOT RELEASE THE SOURCE . That was bad..
Be thankful Google always pushes the Bleeding edge of there designs.. It brings us new features and keeps our Devices fresh. The update bugs is the price for this . Thank Google.. While Telling them they have Trouble. NO reason to tell us WE Already know...
Not sure what these threads are bringing to any forum. Off TOPIC IS THE Best place for such post.. YES MY Reply here to is Uncalled for.....
Erica Renee the geeky chic
Crap thread.
And there's another one, two word response and a fourteen line sig.
Only real issue I've noticed is lag when using multiple users. New keyboard is great, everything else seems fine to me. Happy user here after deleting the extra user account I tested.

I haven't bothered with the multi user aspect and it has been fine here. I think its a given that it ain't quite ready considering it was not implemented in the review units.
One thing I noticed is that you can now say "flu shot Monday at noon" and it will finally create a calendar event. I wonder how many more commands have been added.
omg was that monday as in tomorrow or last monday.. I Can not believe i missed the flu shots again.. grrrrrrrrr .. now im doomed
4.2 seems to be working fine on my nexus 7 so far. Even ice cream sandwich had a whole bunch of more serious issues on a number of devices yet overall most people think it was a great update.
I wouldn't say 4.2 is an awesome update as I've only found a couple of changes useful to me. But I just haven't experienced anything majorly wrong with it either. Give it a month or two and I'm sure the niggles will have been fixed as I have a suspicion they could be mostly ap related.
no its a good update, jeez everyone should quit complaining about now.
Worst update ever was the one my flyer got from Gingerbread 2.3.4 to Honeycomb 3.2....
I like it and am happy Google is stepping up. PA is a fantastic ROM and they did some amazing mods. Unfortunately I have a touch of the OCD and would spend hours trying to set it up just right. I was satisfied from the get go after 4.2 was installed and didn't feel the need to adjust any tablet or phablet settings. With the exception of the usual mods CM or AOKP style. Can't wait to see what's in store for this update Dev style!
I too am happy with 4.2- can't compare it to much but it's clearly no disaster.
I myself have not had any issues with 4.2, thus I'm rather pleased

4.2 update
I am new to the nexus family. I got the nexus 7 16gb yesterday and updated it to 4.2 as soon as possible. So far so good.
I've noticed some lag but overall I like the update, astro sees duplicate storage locations but I'm sure they'll fix that. I don't have multi user enabled and am stock, not rooted.

[Q] Android 4.2.2 for x8?

More like a rage, than a question, but... why is there no one trying to port 4.2.2 for ours x8?
Many lower spec phones have a port, wich to be fair, do have bugs, but at least have it. What happened to the x8 dev scene? Many thanks to nAa for keeping x8 alive, but is there no one else that can scratch the surface of 4.2.2? Plus with the .32 kernel aren't things supposed to be fair easily in porting?
I see nAa wrote 4.1.0 is coming, but... i sure would want 4.2.2 for my baby

This is a developer forum, if you want it, try to make it, if you can't, then don't complain about it.
Go back to eclair if you are not satisfied with the development so far.

I must admit that I am working on that but I'd prefer you to be patient in this area
For experience of 4.2.2 we need many requirements, ex:
unlocked BL
A new kernel (for bugless roms)
Enough knowledge for cooking kernel(we need to partition internal memory{for heavy 4.2.2} which was not necessary on gb)
Jtag tools (cooking kernel is a sensitive progress & hard bricks is so regular)
& just some developers have the knowledge & tools for cooking
#& I'm pretty sure if a recognized developer cook that kernel there will be a lot of roms for working on it

How funny, the guy that trolls everyone about not using the search button, failed to use it. The only BS talking comes from you my friend by playing smartass and looking dumb at the end.
Here educate yourself lil bit, and "use the search button"

learn to wait.
naa himself said that he is working to release android version 4.x for our device..
so it's possible that we might get 4.2..
Well I must say I'm surprised that they've got it working on such a POS phone..
I don't think the experience would be up to much though with so little ram and microsoft's (LG) cheapo hardware ideology..

Judging from changelog, development seems a tad easier over the fence. Kernel version is up to 2.6.35.

Did you look even once through the Original Android Development forum?
We've got CM11, SlimKat, Beanstalk and AOKP.
I know that at least in CM11 and SlimKat everything works, even though you
have to disable HW Overlays for some things.
But you could have easily found that by yourself in a few minutes.

Ahh sorry i'm kinda new to this...
Whats HW overlays?
I recommend just reading the appropriate threads in the Orig. Dev. Section.
Anyway, I don't know too much about that myself, all I know is that it needs
to be disabled for stuff like VLC to work.

In terms of an actual ROM made by Sony, then No we're only on 4.3.
In terms of AOSP and the like then yea there are a few as some users have already mentioned, 4.4 from Sony should be out soon I would say, there are phones that have it on there which are in development so i can see a leak on it's way quite soon.

4.3 needs a bit of tweaking to be honest, i've noticed my phone gets warmer and it dies quicker when compared to 4.2.2. 4.4 has been rock solid at least on my HTC One, so hopefully the Z1 will follow suit.

Same for a lot of people mate, you do get the odd person who says "Noooooo, I haven't got a single issue 4.3 has been the best ever ever ever"
Well that's great for them but in all fairness i've not done anything different than I did before so it is the OS.
Kitkat has had a fair amount of work put into it, i'd like Sony to take their time with this release and get it perfect, waiting for thing to be patched and optimized is a pain.

Android 6 ready for prime time?

What is the general consensus? Is it to early to jump to Marshmallow? Is it robust and functional? Do most apps still run? If I'm not happy can I easily revert to LP? Thanks for any advice.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I was more interested in whether the dev community has had it long enough to customize and enhance it as they typically do. I made the jump to L very early and for a while I was without many of the add-ons that came later. I look forward to M but I don't want the same situation as L. Thanks for your comments.

That is a completely different set of questions than you asked.
If custom ROMs are important to you, then you probably will want to wait a bit for Marshmallow ROMs to get close to the functionality of Lollipop. They are basically stock at this point. I think the feature port will start happening soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would be some time before it gets close to the functionality of Lollipop.
Xposed also doesn't work if that is important to you.
I would wait if I were you. The biggest thing I notice on M is the speed and battery increases. The downside is that there is many many things missing that we all have become accustom to. I mean you cant even get the LED working for notifications unless you use a 3rd party app or a hacked zip! lol You really aren't missing much....the hyperbole around the release is amazing.
I think Marshmallow sucks. Video and audio random freezing, can't root. Honestly I can't see the advantage to upgrading. At least nothing that overcomes these two huge shortcomings.
