After much practice into linux, i went for a C coding workshop for android. Basically i doubled, maybe even tripled my skill level. I finally am able to promise you something not pointless to this society which feels great hatred on me. I already got over this. I hope such releases can ease the scams in may.
The new kernel, based on ARM.'s vanilla kernel common, will be a 3.4.11 kernel. It features full tweaks to all over the source. Expect little features on initial release. The releases in the front will be focused entirely on fixing the kernel sources itself. The major merge all the way to the latest kernel version might have caused bugs to appear

Good for you. Hope it works out better this time and test thoroughly before release and after changes.
might is a understatement. It almost certainly will cause bugs to appear (the most common bug is it not booting when major changes are made to the kernel base). Also allot of the bugs from the kernel don't show symtoms they just go wrong and use a few more KB of memory or that bit restarts and causes a slight slowdown or it takes a few milliseconds longer to complete its task etc.

Yes. He is fed up of this community. So, he turned over to support HTC. I give him my support for DNA. Now, i comeback to finish off what is destroyed, complete whats junk, and make it into something like a useful book into a library. Thanks xonar. I still have one last lesson. I did not learn drivers. edv, as said above, thats my motive. And, the reason why i comeback is the value of my life. You rather change an enemy into a friend rather than gaining more opposition.
nicholas for f--k sake !!! , once you have the kernel going post the topic and flatter yourself ,, you never learn do you
If this is going to turn into a flame war then I'll close it as that's not needed here but as it's posted in General, you should be here to discuss the topic. It's been explained why the other one was dropped but if nicholaschw wants to try develop something out of it let him and just ignore this thread if you don't have anything productive to add to it. This wasn't posted in Development so he's not expected to have the kernel ready to post so discussion is allowed here.

So you're involved with (kind of) non-profit organization (alike CyanogenMod), can we know who's the members of your team? AFAIK, you don't own the phone in personal. So you (might) develop those kernel alone by yourself, or how many developers in your team?
I read your ARM. Project Recruitment, and it seems no one interested, so this non-profit organization doesn't existed yet, or you already have your own internal team?

hmm, 80% of repos are forked from already good kernels from such devs like gokhanmoral, CM, garwedgess, coolya, etc.
it's like forking Diana kernel then adding a little touch.
Even your "bproj repo" is a clone from huexxx https://github.com/ARMP/bproj-black/blob/master/Makefile#L198 yet you pushed it as initial commit. I understand, maybe you're shy to fork it repo to repo.
Your Makefile on the repo shows:
export KBUILD_BUILDHOST := $(SUBARCH)
#ARCH ?= $(SUBARCH)
ARCH ?= arm
#CROSS_COMPILE ?= $(CONFIG_CROSS_COMPILE:"%"=%)
CROSS_COMPILE ?= /home/huexxx/android/arm-2010q1/bin/arm-none-linux-gnueabi-

Hi all,
This is my first post, although I have been following the group for a long time. My post is motivated by the observation that a massive imbalance exists, particularily in the Legend development community.
There is a huge mass of non-contributing users badgering a small group of hard-working developers, whilst free-loading off the many hours they spend trying to improve the Legend for all of us. (BTW - I'm not pointing any fingers that don't equally apply to myself!) The value of the hours they are putting in is huge, and the return amounts only to the occational humble click of a thanks button.
I have written to the XDA owners and proposed that they implement a system whereby users can donate to a specific thread, and that each month the proceeds of thoses donations are distributed to posters according to the distribution of new "thanks" clicks to them. Unfortunately I have not heard anything in reply, so in the meantime I propose that we start here in the Legend development forum in a less systematic way.
For example; all of us eagerly following ogo2's thread on his Alpha rom should support how we can. We have all heard BlaYO's hesitance to get too involved in that he needs another Legend to do development work on, as he can't render his own out of service for days on end. Absolutely fair point. I would suggest that all active developers in here create a donation account somewhere so that the rest of us ungrateful, free-loading scavengers (again, myself included, and meant in the most positive way! ) can contribute.
Let's get BlaYO a second development Legend, or ogo2 some resources on Linux compilation etc. It's the least we can do, even if we are just selfishly offering to help them, help us
It would not take much, and I am quite certain that anyone who can afford a Legend can also afford to donate $10-20 now and then. What a small price to pay for all the hours that our devs spend working to bring all of us the latest and greatest. Let's give something back!
There were a bunch of users that actually donated to my PayPal account (a few months ago I didn't believe this could happen by the way).
I'd personally object to such a system for various reasons, the main one being complication of something which is a pretty simple in fact: You like the work of someone, you donate (or buy).
Moreover, there are a few CM developers whose work on their device (which happens to use an msm7227 chipset) directly influences the Legend too and therefore my work as well. They are not active in the Legend forum though.
So what I basically want to say: There's a lot of work going on – not hours but weeks – which you might never see because these almost unmoderated boards here are full of you-name-it and every CM developer I know pretty much dislikes XDA for that very reason.
You don't see us (40+ developers) working, but that doesn't mean we aren't.
Edit:
Ah, and by the way, I've been busy too, so tiwlan on 2.6.35 is almost finished.

Hmmm... OK, I get that my proposal could have some shortcomings, however the intent is good. It's great to hear that users donated to your Paypal, Ali Ba, perhaps other devs should just publish Paypal details too, and users can direct donations to where they feel they are most deserved?
It is not meant to be fair compensation for the numerous hours spent, as the basic principles of community development should still be the driving force. It could, however, be a token of appreciation from those unable to contribute in any other way.
I can't help but feel that there would be more devs involved with more and faster progress as a consequence, if only there was a little reward in there too. Surely that would be in everybodies interest.
In any event, I offer my thanks to all the devs here, and I would be happy to back that up with a contribution, should you decide to go that way

I was working on getting wl12xx driver working with 2.6.32 kernel but I didn't succeed yet. Is there a reason not to switch to wl12xx driver instead? It also provides soft AP support int the same driver.
Regarding donations, it would be nice if I could donate you via Google checkout.
Thanks.
Yea leave Blay0 alone man, He's getting enough hassle on the Alpha thread as it is! people say they'd like to help then just request more things like a2sd,overclocked kernel etc.If you know anything about linux try helping by trying to build drivers for the last 2 bits (i.e Bluetooth, wifi)
I must say also that there were individuals who offered me donations which I respectfully refused and instead apoint those guys to their nearest charity. I'm not doing this for money (I make money doing other things) I'm just doing it coz I like to know how things work and I always like to learn new things. So if I become bored those donations definitely won't convince me to keep on doing it.
Don't you guys ever think that I'm doing all this for you! Noooope! I'm doing it for me and my own satisfaction. Yes, that's right I'm actualy a selfish, egoistic basterd but in a process of achieving my own goals (which are also inspired by some of your suggestions) I'm really happy if someone else learn something from me. They are few but it doesn't matter... they will definitelly pass on their knowledge and that's important coz I believe knowledge is universal and must be available to anyone willing to accept it and you cannot charge for that.
Don't kidd yourselves, this Legend thingie will be among us at most for another year and then it will get its successors and its community will become even smaller and eventually it will be disbanded and some of us will find new projects, learnig new thing and again passing on all the gained knowledge.

A whole year is an optimistic approach
The main problem in the development of the HTC Legend is the device itself. It's a rare phone, and pretty much a very small group of people is using it. That also makes the group of talented developers thinner. Look at the Hero or SGS forums topic/post count. Sure - most of them are retarded, and previously answered questions, but still folks in the dev section are coding some crazy and amazing stuff. That's because those devices where popular and successful. The HTC Legend was ment to be the successor of the HTC Hero, but this ain't gonna happen. Nobody will remember this phone in a year or two. That's of course HTCs fault, not ours.
Also mentioning all the request, demands and stupid questions in the dev forum - this forum is not that bad
Go check the Nexus S section. For example the NexusSense topic (my girlfriend got a Nexus so I'm somewhat interested). Now that's pure fukcin massacre out there
Greets!

Agreed, I thought Legend was a kickass sucessor, but very few people actually bought it...I've deserted to Desire S, but I think that's a very similar case so far anyways...
But back on topic: The thing is, everyone has an interest in what he's doing and unless he has a gain from that work he wouldn't be doing it But the idea of donating is noble ofcourse
Let's support our developers by not asking stupid and obvious questions, using search button, hitting that freakin' "thanks" button as often as we can, and most importantly by using our own brains to gain even more from their work

Amen! (10char )
Agree with the great Dr!
PLUS This is a General thread so should be in the general section.....Threads should go into the right forums for a start! Hate to think how many threads there are in the wrong place :/
its known that development for our phone is difficult due to lack of hardware sources...still developers are trying to port things up for this...
but its been a quite long time since in the development thread almost all roms are in beta stage..they are reaching to usable stage...I would request devs to speed up the process and please dont put everything under beta for long periods...
I guess that everyone works with blood sweat and tears on their roms. Just have some patience...

To be honest, very few number of people use this phone... Its not as popular as S3 or S2 (thats the main drawback of most mid range phones)
And out of all those users, only a very few number of people have knowledge about Android (aka the developers).... And since we're always busy with our lives, jobs, exams, classes, etc. So no one can give complete attention to all this...
Yes, after the JB update - this phone got a boost in a "Development" point of view... I mean we now have more ROMs, themes, Mods, etc... But i believe that all we need are more experienced developers (and users) to help the existing developers and contribute something to this phone's dev support...
As Shaaan said, we are all good at something... So why not form a team and utilize it for better and faster development process for this phone

I would demand from you to learn to develop, and make all that betas to be final. How that sounds? You would do that in the speed of the light.
And please turn on the brain for little time and see that all those beta ROMs are mods of CM, that is in beta stage. And we do not have sources to fix all the bugs fast.

Tired of this kind of people who can't contribute something other than demanding. Maybe if you can ''DONATE'' thats the least you can do rather than learning how to develop instead of posting nonsense. Ok? Just a suggestion bro.

that was an opinion if you are really hurt by that...please learn to look at things differently
This guy is real piece of work....
Do you even know what beta means ?? If devs hold on to the project until its final, how the hell would they get people to test it ???
As for how long a beta takes, you are in no position to demand anything. Dev's work for free to give you a better phone experience, if you want things done fast, grab a pile of you own money, pay a bunch of people to develop something for you. Whenever someone is doing free work for you, the right thing to do is keep you head down and be grateful that they even share their work with you for free.

Soooooooooooooooooooo.......I am a patient person and I'm sorry I'm relying on others for this but w.e the point is every1 seems to be coming out with h multiple kitkat ROMs for certain devices...........maybe Devs should stop trying to produce an already produced ROM for devices like nexus, galaxy, htc and such and maybe focus on other devices........devices that actually NEED an update.......lik the NC? W.e I just see no interest in the nc on xda anymore. God I wsh I knew how to do this. Learn u say. Well that would take too long. On app, so not sure of the rules and where to post. But considering its dead most of the time lol hopefully I won't get banned. It has been a long standing tradition in the nook color community to not release binary build of new android versions for a few months. This allows all the bugs to be worked out by the devs before anyone else has access. At least one person bricked their nook on the ics or jb alpha builds, so this tradition is to protect from that. This also encourages end users to get into the development scene. I myself am going to be building my own cm11 over Christmas break and am going to be building for my phone, all because of this tradition. So quit complaining that nobody gives you what you want and build it yourself. Who knows, maybe you will keep this device alive after all the other devs have left because you built cm11 yourself.

It is easy to compile cyanogenmod, but what stops you from doing it? For the first few months when a new rom comes out, the developers make it so only DEVELOPERS AND BUGTESTERS can have at it, and see what bugs there are, and what improvements they can add to the code. This is meant for the common user(YOU) to install the rom, and have no(maybe some) problems from when they first boot the rom. From then on more bug fixes are made, and the rom becomes stable for daily use. Experimental roms can be extremely dangerous, and can even brick an entire device(Anyone here remember the AOSP incident with Mateorod?)
And please next time you rant, try to use proper grammar, and using slang doesn't really help your point very much.

Learn i say, and do it yourself.
Why aren't you complaining to the manufacturer?
Why are you so demanding from people who are developing by hobby and they make their work available for free?
Try to answer these questions and then you will understand why people are saying to do it yourself.
Thread closed as it doesn't serve any real purpose rather than ranting about an area that you are not experienced with.
Not about the hardware- that's nothing short of exceptional to me. What I'm wondering is, why are all the new Kitkat based custom roms so stripped-down? I know it's new, and I'm also not a developer but I can appreciate the hard work that goes into making them. On all my devices I've been able to count on roms like CyanogenMod and others to add the subtle tweaks that I feel should have come from the factory. CM 10.2 was a killer ROM and had all the features I needed. I've tried some of these new KK roms and theyre either too much, or too vanilla. All the OP's say they're starting clean. I'm sure someone will tell me "Learn how to build your own if you don't like it" but does anyone know if/when the devs plan to start incorporating features back? I hope no one takes offense to this, as that is not my intention. I'm just trying to understand why this happened. Was it like this when ICS and JB came out?
I agree with you...
Just ask google for a refund

I think streamlined is the term you are searching for. I've been using Android for quite some time now and lightweight is what I prefer. Plus, it's inevitable to have a little more functionality with custom ROMs.
Not trying to offend, but it sounds to me like you haven't been around Android for very long if you weren't around for the ICS to JB update. So with that, I'm glad you're on board. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your amazing phone that has a pure Android experience.
Keep flashing and I'm certain you'll find the perfect fit for you.

"Why this happened?" Probably because the phone has been available for barely over a month. Nothing "happened." I've never seen so much development on a new phone in such a short period of time. Jeez.
Just wait...
Inviato dal mio Nexus 5 utilizzando Tapatalk
All devs on all devices start by making the base as stable as possible first. Only THEN do the features get added in.
Remember, this is a Nexus device. It is the first device to receive kitkat. It takes time for devs to build features back in to a new base. They don't just "slot in". They need to be amended, debugged and sometimes completely re-written
You're an early adoptor of the nexus. ALL brand new devices takes time to develop for. But imagine you buy the next HTC device released in 6 months time with kitkat... cm devs have been working with kitkat sources for 7 or 8 months by that time. The features will almost just "slot in" but on a brand new base, it takes a lot of time. Im not sure you really do appreciate the hard work involved
Its also worth noting, cm's feature set is identical across all kitkat builds on all devices. Its only the device tree that varies

To everyone who wrote a useful, non-sarcastic response, thank you. You answered my questions. To the jerks, I have one word. Karma.
I am on the stock rom and I have nearly all the features and tweaks that custom roms have.
Just install xposed framework and gravitybox module and you should be alright. You can download more modules depending on your needs.

Try Slim rom, they have a good amount of added features now.

The CM features are coming, don't worry! Then AOKP will be up, and then AOSPA, then you won't know what to do with yourself! It just takes a bit for the developers to redo features for the brand new version of Android. We've been a bit spoiled in that the transition from the Jellybean 4.x.x updates weren't terribly hard to push code up for, but KitKat has a lot more going on under the hood.
Edit: and if you recall how CM6 and CM7 looked, the streamlined look also makes for a MUCH easier UI, vs the clutter that kinda existed in the froyo and GB days.

You have to understand that the devs here aren't getting paid for what they do. They have jobs and lives outside of Android development, and they do this in their spare time for free. For you to pop in and start a thread in the forums for a brand-new phone basically saying "hey guys, why aren't you developing more" comes off as kind of rude. You're new here so I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but you have to understand that some patience is required with a brand-new phone and a brand-new version of Android. I'm amazed at the amount of development that we already have, to be honest.
All you need is Xposed and Gravity Box. I'm running stock rooted with those two, and I got my Rom exactly how I like it.

Can you please point me to where I said they should do something faster? Because frankly, I'm not seeing it. In fact, I specificially said that I appreciate the hard work that goes into them. All I was asking, was to be educated on why all the roms were starting clean. It seems some people understood this, and offered relevant responses while others simply flamed. It's no wonder that people get a bad taste of these forums with the way they get treated, when they simply asked a question and even carefully worded it so as not to be offensive or greedy.
When we went from ICS to JB, it wasn't like this. Devs didn't 'start fresh' like this. So clearly something DID happen, i.e. a change of some kind, that led them to do what they are doing. And all I wanted was to be educated on what that was! Not once did I say that these hard working people with lives who do this for FREE should do it FASTER. But people, who are possibly only semi-literate, immediately assume that someone is saying what they are clearly NOT saying. Is it boredom that leads people to jump on someone in a forum for no reason? Either say something constructive and don't be a warmonger, or move on.

THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!! THANK YOU!! What a simple answer, that was not negative in any way, that told me what I was looking for. Thank you for not being insulting, and just telling me that it was easier to do JB updates than KK. So like I said, something was different about KK that made it more difficult to code for. Thank you for keeping in the spirit of constructively helping others.

I also like the Cataclysm ROM, very "stock-ish" with good features.
Gravity box is a great module. Many of us use it

As the title says, i'm mainly asking because i do believe that moving on with newer nvidia hardfp compatible blobs and merging with newer kernels is fully possible.
What i mainly need is just the diff, a patch format will work too.
I'd ask in the Original Dev section but i'm restricted for ten posts and rather than wasting ten posts i though i'd ask something useful.

Not quite what i was looking for, i'm looking to port it to 3.10 but without the basic LGE diff stuff it's... well to do it takes a couple of weeks but without a diff it will be mainly guesswork.
the point would be that i'm willing to spend the time if someone can give me the LGE specific diff from stock Nvidia.
And i've been a dev in linux for arm for over 20 years and a dev for android for over 3 years now, i am not requesting anything any user can help me with, this is strictly an original dev question.
If you want to make this real hard, only the AOSP team and the various manufacurer devs should have access to original development, development would be for app programmers only and the other forums would be for you, i'd still be in the original code forum.
I don't know what is wrong with this forum, i have never in my life encountered a forum where users of a mobile wants to get rid of developers.

I'm not a developer, for sure, and I repeat to you that your skills and your effort are appreciated, at least by me.. But I'm quite a lawyer, and a general rule says that when you agree to a community, accepting a social pact or a "terms and policy" act, you are supposed to read and understand them, and if you don't know them, you have to read and act according to them.. These are the bases of any civil society, group, community, the same bases which force unskilled or inexperienced members to read everything before asking, for example.. So, if everyone could act as he wants, every thread here should be full of questions, ETAs, etc.. I can't be more clear than this, so I repeat it for the last time: you're a Dev, I'm not; you've Dev knowledge I haven't; I hope your work will be profitable, and I'll thank you so much when you will eventually reach your goal.. But we have some rules, and everyone has to respect them..

just wanted to say that one of devs which seems to have abandoned our device, kholk with eternityproject, has semi-successfully based his kernel for our device on 3.4 version. perhaps his work can be of some help for you?
