....and Droid 3 is missing. Could still be coming down the pipeline, but it looks like we are out of luck for the first wave (not that surprising).

I know I have forwarded this theory before - but at first glance, the list does only have devices (among all manufacturers) that are well over 512MB of RAM - I think Dinc2 is the lowest at 768MB. I may be wrong - don't have all specs memorized.

It's because the people at motorola that make these decisions don't even know what RAM is and haven't even heard of kernel or XDA-forums.
They think... Hm..1024 is more than 512.. lets not give 512 mb phones ICS.
If they'd at least unlock the damn bootloaders so people like hashcode can do it for them ffs
Part of me wants to never buy another motorola device, but this keyboard is just too nice. Motorola does a good job on the hardware but between the bloatware and the locked bootloader the software part can be disappointing. So we have an os released less than 6 months after our device was released and motorola basically says screw you. Verizon is just the messenger here.

Some of those phones are almost the same hardware as the droid 3 so I'm hoping that those vzw roms can at least be reverse engineered to figure out what's still missing in the cm9 alpha, like the camera.

interesting that bionic and d4 are still listed as evaluating. But even in best case, that droid 3 is only left out of the ics fun for the first rollout (vzw does say more updates are coming, and droid 2 did get updates almost 2 years after release), it looks like it will be a while - even some brand new devices that were in the vzw press release are scheduled for q3...

Our only hope is the Google takeover of Moto will change their bootloader policy. This then, I can't bring myself to buy another Moto phone.
By the time it comes to the Droid 3, it will be upgrade time...
Droid 3 is one of the best phones with android and qwerty and motorola dont plan to update to ICS?? Motorola in software decisions sucks!!! They never listened to the users

The big constraint is going to be the locked bootloader.
It don't mean that droid 3 will never has ICS... just it not going to be on this first group... I'm sure in a couple of months we will see it on the list.

Well if they wait much longer:
A) people have upgraded to a newer phone
B) all people who actually care about having ICS rather than gingerbread already use hashcode's ICS

I think that in Q1 of 2013 we might have an oficial ICS support, i don't believe sonner than that...
First it's motorola who decide, if our droid 3 can have ICS, then VZW if it will have.
Motorola should still be evaluating if ICS will going to run fine on our Droid 3 and if it's they will update his "ICS Update Schedule" and VZW his own.

Neither myself, I just talking about an Oficial ICS support by Motorola...so cheers to Hashcode!
So I just found a leaked screen shot of Verizon's upgrade schedule to ICS!
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/04/verizon-ic-update-schedule-leaked/
So the HTC Rezound should get the OTA next week on May 9th. The RAZR and RAZR MAXX will be getting the OTA in three weeks. But no mention of the Bionic... Oh yea, they decided to give us the .904 update while they finalized ICS for the newer phones. We just got shafted again.
Then again, its tough to know what is actually going on because they have to keep everything confidential. I doubt this would be case but if VZW and MOTO were having issues with ICS on the Bionic, I would have no problem giving them more time to make it right. But from what we've seen, it doesn't appear to be that innocent.
You do realize that we are a low priority because the phone isn't selling well, right? RAZR's the front-runner, making it a priority. We'll get ours by July, if we're lucky.
And yes, I am being a little pessimistic, but Motorola and Verizon need to step up their game already. Moto's making too many devices and Verizon's forcing bloat too much. That's what is slowing us down.
re
I don't understand what is really taking that long. Development will continue on the latest and greatest but that doesn't mean we should get the shaft. I picked the bionic over the thunderbolt because I like the slightly thinner phone and longer screen even though it cost more.didn't think I would be buying a dead phone in terms of development. I should have just got the razr
I have Rooted 904 update Safestrap dual boot eclipse 2.2
My view is the Bionic is a phone they would prefer to forget. The Razrs are the hot phones so they get the priority. Maybe I woukd complain much more without ICS ROMs available.
It's interesting that on Moto's site the RAZR's are all listed as ICS upgradeable but the Bionic is not.??

There are ICS ROMs available for the Bionic. I've held off on flashing one because its my understanding that they are unstable and have missing features. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

That's a pretty big oversight, mentioning the RAZR on the Bionic page like that... Now is that the mobile site only, or is it on the full site too?
That's the full site. It says RAZR. Read the spec's on all the phones and Bionic does not have 'ICS Upgradeable'. I think we're getting swept under the rug.

if you click on the motorola support forums link where it says that it takes u to a page explaining which devices are getting ics and the bionic among others is on that list but yeah :/ it will prolly be a while. maybe we can get lucky with cheesecake.
Guys why is this even a topic. It's been confirmed we are getting official ICS by several sources along with moto. The ICS source code was released a little over a month ago, that helped out the devs. We have a solid device for the price and we have devs good enough to keep us happy and get us through until mid to late summer when we get the real thing.
ICS source was released 6 months ago. That doesn't help matters since we don't have an official release, an unlocked bootloader, or a real ICS kernel, however.
Might as well get started by making an official thread for the Motorola Software Upgrade page. I will be checking this page on a daily basis, so as soon as any official updates are posted you will be sure that this thread will be updated also.

Update changelog: (newest updates at the top)
-----
October 1, 2012: Motorola has updated their page today, however there do not seem to be any noticeable changes made from the previous update.
September 29, 2012: Still no update on the Atrix HD front. However, Motorola has officially cancelled the ICS OTA update for the Atrix 4G, Photon 4G, and Electrify. These devices will remain on Gingerbread. A message from Punit Soni, the new software lead at Motorola, further details this decision:
Motorola Mobility continues to review how each device can deliver the very best experience possible, and at times, this can mean making tough choices – especially as it relates to Android software upgrades. Today, we need to let you know about some tough choices related to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades. Specifically, ATRIX 4G, Photon 4G and Electrify will not receive the ICS upgrade, but continue to be supported with maintenance releases to ensure optimum performance for the consumer.
We are committed to being more transparent than ever on our software upgrade strategy – even when we’re delivering news consumers may not want to hear. We are doing everything possible to continually improve our communication with you and make sure you are a satisfied customer. That’s why we recently announced our $100 rebate program for owners of these and other devices launched in 2011 and beyond that won’t get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This program starts in the U.S. this fall, and we are working to expand it to select regions around the world. Please watch for updates at motorola.com/tradeup.

September 22, 2012: The Atrix HD has not yet been added to the software upgrade chart yet. No sign of Jelly Bean for anything aside from the Wi-Fi XOOM. We already know it's coming to the RAZR M and HD, but that's the extent of it at the moment. Further devices will likely be added in the future, however. On a separate note, let us mourn with our fellow Atrix brethren (Atrix 4G owners only - as of September 25, Atrix 2 US owners now have the ICS soak test underway) who may end up not seeing an official OTA release for ICS - their upgrade plans have been changed to "Future plans coming soon."

Atrix 2 got official ICS few days ago. Only Atrix 4G which is still unknown.
I'm an ex-Atrix user. It's a shame if they can't keep their promise. Further plans can describe anything. I think they will skip ICS and leaping to JB.
Btw,Atrix HD should get JB in December.

The Atrix 2 ICS OTA that you are referring to did not happen in the US yet. The US version of the phone has yet to receive an official rollout from Motorola/AT&T. I realize that in other regions the phone has received its update.

I believe Motorola said something about current phones getting jellybean and if they don't then they'll give you $100 to put towards one of the recently announced phones such as the razr m or something along those lines. I'll see if I can find the article. I'm going to say that the Atrix HD will be receiving the update, it's specs are more than capable and Motorola would be crazy to not do it, the Atrix series is pretty popular.
Edit:
Here's the article. http://androinica.com/2012/09/motor...ers/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pulsenews

Once they find anything useful for Razr M or Razr HD such as rooting or cwm,I believe it can be used on our Atrix HD as well.

Not that most people here are really bothered since you use the custom ROMs, but now this means there will be an official Jelly Bean template to make a sweet CM JB ROM off of.
Hopefully they won't cancel the upgrade.

Agreed. They might keep their promise, but most likely release 4.1 long after 4.2 is already out.
IMO they need to quit bowing to the carriers. Make their handsets according to the original principles of the Open Handset Alliance - fully open source, fully unlocked. If the carriers don't like it, tough, let them make their own damn locked phones. After enough consumers get burned by the lock-in, they'll all start choosing unlocked phones.

I ordered already other device, not sure if I'll 100% move to it, but I plan to get rid of moto after that happened with my previous device motorola photon. I couldn't wait more and decided to try droid 4. After this politics I plan to go out of moto once I'll find good device. Hope, that found already.
I'm posting this from a D4 on Jellybeans but I'm still glad to hear this. I think it will go a long way towards making people feel they can trust Motorola again, which as we can see from a few other posts here many people do not.
The real question in my mind is, what will come first, the DROID 5 or the official JB upgrade? What I want to see are updates the drop shortly after AOSP does, not a year later...

At this point I would be happy with that. 4.3 in screen + S4 (AKA the Photon Q)= fine with me.

I'm pretty sure this article was labeled as untrue rumor. Android 4.2.2 won't be a the next codename of android. I'm pretty sure we will be getting JB 4.1 since that's what Moto promised to us earlier this year. Honestly, I don't think any devices with less than 2GB will get Android 4.2 other than stock Android devices.
It's been a good run the the D4, I'm pretty happy with CM10 on here right now, much less bloated! I just miss the power off animation (CRT)...

On paper, it would fit within the magic 18 month Android dev horizon.

Intel has finished porting 4.2 to x86 this year. It's just a matter of Motorola to start to work with. There's planty of chance that Moto will update our device to 4.2. 4.3 it's hard to say,but if you see any news about intel porting 4.3, it's a hope.
4.2 is officially on Motorola's plans, and the last released schedule mentions it coming by October. Let's see if they can do it as promised.
