same here, trying to to update using Sony PC Companion and was told in the instructions, under step 5, to press and hold volume don key on the phone while plugging the USB cable into your phone, tried several times, even restarted phone, not happening.. HELP!1111111111
- Make sure the phone has charge.
- Remove SD card from phone.
- Make sure the correct divers are installed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153261
Scroll down to: [ before we begin unlocking bootloader ]
Here 3 packages are given for fastboot drivers:
download the fastboot package with usb drivers (alternate drivers if the ones in package dont work OR this)
- Try another PC \ USB port \ USB calbe?
- Switch the phone OFF , hold the volume UP button while you plug-in the USB. (DO NOT PRESS POWER!) Blue led?
- Switch the phone OFF , hold the volume DOWN button while you plug-in the USB. (DO NOT PRESS POWER!) Green led?
Does any of these options work?
Kind regards, Stefan.
No change for me, works fine on another PC. But i want to be able to update that phone in my own home.

Not sure why, it's usually more to do with user error, so simply retrace your steps and start over.
I tried via Sony PC Companion 2.1 and I get this message:

So use the flashtool then, and read the stickys too.
I tried flashtool at least 20 times. Simply can not start the installation system (vol. down button + USB cable at the same time does not work!). SO, I can not put phone in flashmode enymore. Flashtool see phone in this mode for a few seconds and then stuck. On the phone i have green led for a sec, then nothing...
So any method that requires phone in flashmode is unusable.
Before this i use it (flashtool) several time normaly.

Hi,
I have got a problem with my HD7 device.
After unsuccesful flashing it went to the state:
1) After it starts it goes straight into the "Connect to PC" mode

2)
It is unable to go into booloader mode (Power + vol down) because it ignores it - it goes straight to 1)
3) If I connect it to zune it detects it but momentally it returns error
I don't have an idea what to do next, I have working Y-cable and sd-card with 1gb card which I already used few months ago.

when you get stuck into the "Connect to PC" mode, press PowerButton for 10 sec for Restart, then hold Power+Camera+VolumeDown until the USB Host Mode appears!

I thought about what you wrote and that was the only logical explanation - so after your answer I already guessed what did you mean.
Generally yeah...it took something about 15 minutes (not sure if it was 30).
But there is one problem - When i push the power button during the "Connect to pc screen" it reboot itselfs after 3-4 seconds and then is starting again so I have to press Camera + vol down button to enter USB Host mode (I am still holding the power button).
Maybe you meant something else?
I have time - I can try multiple things

install usb drivers manually
if u r on win8 u should know to disable driver signature and etc (all tutorials are available)
then to find solution calm down, and check what did u do exactly step by step
not deleting another rom (i m opinion) cannot cause hard-brick cause almost of custom recoveries wipe everything themselves before start to flash new rom...

Do you have ADB set up? See if ADB recognizes fastboot mode. Then maybe you can fastboot flash. But as far as I can tell with my limited knowledge the bootloader seems to be corrupted, which is probly irrepairable. Maybe you can get some of the real devs to help you if you ask nicely enough, I'm just a lurker...

Next time, wait for flashtool to say you should connect your device on flashmode.
If you connect it before flashtool asks it, it will fail.
So choose the ftf to flash, wait for flashtool to ask you to connect your phone in flashmode, now connect your phone.

I got this weird problem problem with 3G on Xperia Z. On Wi-Fi everything works fine, but ond 3G, only Facebook aplication works, all other apps can't connect to internet. When i share my connection via hotspot, everything loads perfect on other device, so I eliminated sim/operator problem.
Problems started when I upgraded software to 10.5.A.0.230 version, so I tried reset to factory settings but didn't helped, and software version remains the same. I tried all common solutions, like APN settings and similar things, but nothing helped.

Battery is low, you need a fastboot cable
Motorola Fastboot/Factory Programming Cables Links
So you can flash with RSD Lite

Another thing to try
Booting from AP fastboot to charging mode
If the Device will only boot to AP Fastboot and it says Battery Low
Connect the phone/Device ato a Wall Charger (not PC)
-In AP Fastboot Mode hold Volume down& power buttons at the same time for +10 seconds
- When screen goes black...release power button
-Then IMMEDIATELY press and hold Vol - and Vol+ to boot to Boot Menu.
- In Boot Menu scroll down with volume down to BP Tools, press volume up to select
- Device should boot to Charging Mode with battery icon
- Once battery is charged, try flashing in AP Fastboot again
This will only work if battery charging Firmware is still preset and not corrupted
If Motorola Device will not boot to Charging Mode, a Fastboot cable will be needed.

When you connect to PC
AP Fastboot should change from
Connect USB
Data Cable
to
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
this will happen even if drivers are not correct, if not
likely, USB Cable or phones USB port is bad.

Do not, EVER, flash vital stuff with a bad USB port or fidgety cable. You're just asking for trouble.
Bug a friend for 20 minutes on their computer, or use one at work, something.

The bad port is on the phone, yes?
You cannot hold cable during Flashing, is way to sensitive for that.
If you have to use tape or a rubber band, to hold it in correct place.
Even with a good port touching the phone or cable can cause Flashing to fail.

Ah, I thought you were talking about the computer end. My mistake.
What's the failure message? Anything specific, or just "flash failed"? Have you tried a different cable?
