[Q] Will installing Safestrap and Minimoto lose my sms's and contacts - Motorola Droid 3

Hi All,
Have had lots of problems with my xt860 (Bell .ca version) locking up or restarting at random (some days it doesnt do it at all, others 2 or 3 times, sometimes more), so am looking at installing minimoto to see if that helps. I did reset back to stock a couple of months back, and the issues stopped for a about a month, but are now back.
I don't want to go without a physical keyboard so this is my last resort before I go and get myself a HTC Desire Z.
I am just wondering if I install safestrap and minimoto will I lose my contacts and SMS?
Thanks,
Cevad

If your contacts are synced with Google, no, you will not lose them - they will come back with the first sync to Google contacts. You can also back up your SMS messages with a third party utility - SMS Backup and Restore may be your best bet. The only issue is that they may be restored in Minimoto with the date and time stamp of the time of the restore, not when the messages were sent (in other words, all of the messages will look to have sent today.)
Of course, one of the advantages of Safestrap is that you can quickly boot back to stock and see your messages store.
Also, I use an app called SMSBackup+, which automatically backs up all sent and received text and MMS messages to your GMail account, so you can look at history in GMail rather than on the phone itself. Note that SMSBackup+ will allow you to restore messages from GMail after they are backed up, but it definitely has the wrong date/time problem, and it's worse because it restores newer items first, so the conversations look backwards.
However, when you install Minimoto, you will be installing with all apps and data wiped from the phone *in Minimoto* - stock will remain if you want to go back, but you need a third party utility to copy apps and data from stock to Minimoto.

Just to let everyone know, Minimoto didn't work on my xt860 as it's a Bell Canada version, not a US one.

Did you install the XT860 version? Because I've been running it for months with no problem

Pretty sure I did. It wouldn't allow me to add me an APN, which meant no 3g. Cant remember if there was other issues as well. I've got myself a Desire Z now to replace the XT860, so I'm not too worried now, although maybe I'll try it out again next weekend.

[Q] Unable to Send SMS suddenly

Hi Peeps,
For some strange reason my SGS has decided to stop sending sms. After hitting send the messages just get stuck on "sending"
I have checked the message centre number and the mms setting just in case. I have tried the sim in an old nokia and it texts just fine.
It was having intermittent issues with sms around a week ago, where it wouldnt send a message, so i would send the same one again and then both would send simultaneously. However now its not sending at all.
I am running Froyo.xwjp6 with kernel 2.6.32.9.
I have also tried instaling Handcent SMS but i just get the error "message not sent"
Thoughts on a postcard?
Same here, although trying handcent has allowed me to send, but strangely, will intermittently fail, im sure its a froyo bug.

I managed to fix it. Couldn't be bothered with trying to reflash the modem or even the os, so tried the Privacy-return to factory settings option just out of curiosity. Can't figure out what it did exactly but when it rebooted i had not lost any settings or applications, and all my home screen app shortcuts were still there. The only discernable difference was the lack of gadgets on the home screen, which I had to reinstall.
The important thing however is that messaging worked again. God knows why.
One susipicion I have is that this is due to my usage of Titanium Backup. I installed it when i was running Eclair, and each time i upgrade the OS i use it to restore my old system data and apps. Perhaps some change between Eclair and Froyo's messaging settings is being overwritten by and older version by Titanium. I suspect this as following the above factory restore I tried a Titanium restore and instantly it broke my messaging again. So I did the factory again and got them back. There wasn't really any need to use Titanium as I said before I didn't seem to lose any setting or apps, but did it anyway out due to that old cat's friend curiosity
Give it a go if u dare and see what happens
Let me know how u get on...
Ok so im still having the same problem.is there really noone out there with an idea?

Try sending the text 'Allow all' without the parentheses to 9999
Sent from Dorian's EVO 3D
Tried. Didnt seem to have worked. any more suggestions?
If the "allow all" text didn't work, and using a sense rom to update prl/profile doesn't work - I would suggest downloading the RUU and reverting completely back to stock. See if it works then, if it does root with z4 or w/e you like and go back to the rom/nandroid you had before.
if it doesn't work call sprint or bring it in to one of their stores
Also, just wondering; you do have plenty of free space on your phone right? People seem to get really weird problems when their phone is running low on internal storage.
And do you use google voice for voicemail?
And what, if anything, did you do at or around the time it started acting up? (ie installed new apps, flashed new kernel, etc.)

Question1: Yeah i have plenty of space no apps installed.
Question2:Yeah i use google voice. but is not set up right now since i just rooted.
Question3: First noticed no messages being received when i rooted i believe.
Guess illl try to the RUU and see if that works.
Used RUU. Still not being able to receive messages. going to have to contact Sprint.
Try useing a different RUU if your going to doit again, see if that works...just a thought. Later

I have been having problems receiving texts as well ever since I installed a new ROM (this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090234) 2 days ago.
All functions seem to work fine, including outgoing text messages, but incoming do not work at all.
I had been running Cyanogen Mod 6 for about a year without any problems except speed, just wanted to try a newer and possibly faster ROM. I did have issues whenever I would get a "low space" indicator but that doesn't seem to be the case with the current issue.
I am using Google Voice for voicemail.
My service provider is Cellular South, btw, not Sprint.
Ran the RUU but still didnt work. so i updated to newest build and still didnt work. still havent had a chance to call Sprint.

Problem Solved. Since sprint merged with google my settings where changed and were set to receive text messages to google voice and not my phone. If anyone else has this problem just go to your account in google voice settings and make sure that theres a check mark next to receive text to phone. thanks to all for the help =)

Glad you got it working

That didn't work for me
Of course, I'm not on Sprint, but Cellular South. Still no joy on my end. I actually reverted back to my previous CyanogenMod via Nandroid, which WAS receiving text messages just fine, but now it doesn't work either.
I have the original Cell South 2.1 RUU I could use if necessary, but hoping not to have to do that. Looking like I might have to, though.
Finally got it up and running.
I was about to run the 2.1 RUU but then remembered I made a Nandroid backup of my 2.1 Sense-based config before the first time I rooted so I restored to it and dialed *228 to download the latest updates. The texts then started working, so then I reverted back to my Nandroid backup of my new ROM and it worked like a charm!

[Q] not receiving some sms on my phone

for the past few weeks i've been having trouble receiving some texts, i dont know what's happening.. I have an app called Mighty Text which allows me to sms from a computer or tablet. When using the app i realize that i get all my texts in the browser but my phone only alerts me about some sms received and neither do they show up the the stock messaging app...:crying::crying:
with this i have come to think that it's not the network causing the problem.. what else could be the problem?.
I'm currently on SlimBean 3.1 and i'm really loving this rom and would prefer not having to change roms...

It's not a ROM problem but a app or carrier problem. Your carrier most likely won't send your texts at 2 different places (unless specifically said). And when the app is on, you probably allow it to have priority over your text, therefor, it receives them instead of your phone.
Some carriers have apps like those on pc which will let you get your texts and such on both pc and your phone but I believe it has to be made by the carrier to allow it.

[SOLVED] Straight Talk SIM, no SMS on TW ROMs.

So I ordered an AT&T compatible SIM from Straight Talk and set it up. I've been using it with AOSP ROMs for almost two weeks with no issues. I tried two different TouchWiz ROMs (Ultimate N7000 & Galactus) and everything seems to work perfectly, but I cannot send text messages. Fails every time. Clean flash every time, have tried all recommended APN settings on the Straight Talk website. Anyone have any clue what the problem could be?

Fix not sent SMS messages
Thanks for the replies. I realized it was my SMSC shortly after posting. My friend uses Straight Talk's BYOP SIM in an unlocked phone as well, so I just got his SMSC and rebooted. Everything is working perfectly now, even MMS.

HTC one will not send/receive MMS on any rom after last night

Hi Guys, new user long time lurker here.
Getting to the point, my HTC One was doing amazing until I woke up this morning. It is currently running ARHD 3.2, the stock google rom and I've been loving it. I was getting mms last night, woke up in the morning and I couldn't send or receive them. I have tried everything. I wiped it, flashed it again, wiped it, then (the weirder part) restored a backup of ARHD which was the tweaked Sense rom, I believe it was 12, and I still had the same problem. i've removed APN, added them, changed them, and still nothing. Any ideas? I've also changed my messaging apps, moved to Textra, and still nothing. Logically it seems as though something has been removed or edited in my phone that causes the block, but even a restore which was from 32 days ago still cannot send mms. I'm stumped. Also I have made sure my data was on and all that stuff.
Thanks guys, I appreciate anything you can help me with.
Someone posted what sounds like the exact same thing in the Android forums but this site won't let me paste the link. Carrier is AT&T and they were stumped.

Call your service provider and ask them about it. Or test another phone that's on the same tower, if capable.

I guess ill try my parents phone. If nothing changes I'll call the provider tomorrow.
EDIT: it seems to be a tower issue since my mothers phone can't send MMS either. It's strange because it had the same problem at work, but that was only ten miles away. But in a city area. Quite frustrating.
This is the thread. Sounds similar no?

Sounds similar. I have absolutely no other issues it's just mms. internet is fine, everything is a ok.
Exact same problem with my unlocked htc one since last night. Was in multiple group chats and all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive any mms messages to or from the groups. Problem is persisting this morning. I'm in the NYC area and wondering if there are network issues. Where are you located?

Lower bergen county, near Newark Nj. seems to be trend happening here!
I've been on the phone with support for awhile now, nothing has changed on my phone, they said they reset my network when I turned it off like twice, now I can receive them but not send them.
Late update, but this happened to both my phone (Trickdroid 9) and my girl's (stock, unrooted) that night. Working now, but it was annoying as all hell.
New issue. I can now send and receive pictures! awesome! Bad news: while I am connected to wifi, I do not have anything other than minimum service, so I can only text and call! I understand that the wifi is being used, but I can't send or receive mms for example if i'm on a wifi network. is it as simple as fixing an APN? or changing it? Anything possible? Searching only gets me people who want to turn of LTE with wifi so I'm stumped!
