So, a few days ago verygreen uploaded his emmc cyanogenmod install for Nook HD+. I was ecstatic but only got around to installing it today. Install went great up until after flashing the rom.The nook threw an error when trying to unmount the sd card (as per verygreen's instructions) "no problem, I'll just shut down the tablet" I thought. So I do so, remove the SD card, turn the tablet back on, and insert a seperate SD card for storage. The rom loaded up just fine and everything seemed normal. I downloaded and ran a benchmark to see that everything was up to par then went to take a screenshot (to compare to other versions later). A second later I looked at my notifications bar to see a message that the screenshot could not be taken because there is no SD card. After a short investigation I realized that the SD card wasn't showing up in my storage section. It showed up just fine in my computer and I've used the card in this nook before. Just to be sure I plugged the CWM card from earlier, sure enough it didn't show up either. As I'm not a complete novice I figured I should try reflashing before coming here. I did so and the nook seemed to recognize that the card was there! Wait, it now says the card is blank or in an unsupported filesystem. Checking the SD on the computer shows it to be in Fat32, which worked in all previous Roms just fine and clicking the notification to try and format also does nothing. Anyone have any advice?
Additionally I should probably mention that I am using the 05/05 Rom, which I thought was supposed to fix mounting issues

You make it sound like you are trying to insert the SD after you have booted to CM10.1. That won't work. You must boot with the SD already inserted so that it is recognized while CM10.1 starts up.

That didn't work I'm afraid. The message about the blank SD card is gone but it still won't let me save a screenshot. Gives a message about the storage being in use. Also, attempting to move an app to the SD card says there's not enough space... On my freshly formatted 32 gigabyte card that, once again, works and reads just fine on my computer. I will mention there is a header for the SD under my storage tab in settings, and it attempts to calculate the used space of the SD, however it does that whether the card is in or not. For that reason I don't think it means anything. Any other ideas? Because I'm certainly at a loss.

How did you freshly format the card? With Windows? You need to use a program named SDFormatter free on the web.
If you boot with no card in you will see that it does not show a card under storage, does not attempt to calculate, etc. There is something about your card it does not like. The hardware on the HD+ is notoriously faulty when it comes to SDs. Format it with SDFormatter, clean the contacts, make sure it is seated well in the slot and anything else you can do to improve things.

Update
I'm a moron. I failed to notice that the rom that the I downloaded actually was the 05/04 rom, the one with no bluetooth or SD mounting... In my defense verygreen hadn't updated his post (I downloaded from the one he linked in the body of his text, not at the bottom). *Sigh* Still though, I should have been paying more attention and if I had been less lucky I could have bricked my device. Anyways, after flashing the PROPER rom SD mounting works fine (though it was a bit finicky, requiring a reboot before finally working). Anyways thanks for your time, and sorry for giving inaccurate information.
what is the sd format allowed by hd+ in emmc?
I wanted to follow up on this thread by asking a general concluding question-
In order to use the sd cards directly in emmc, will the SD cards have to be in fat32 format only? Or can it be in exfat (or even ntfs)? According to a thread, somebody put a quote from the nook website that it can handle exfat.
The reason is that I wanted my nook to be able to read mkvs. I went through the sdformatter software, and it seems that it only formats in fat32.
TIA.

I temporarily had the same issue, but mine was caused by me tampering with /system/etc/vold.fstab to test a new swap I was trying to make. I changed a setting there and it would not recognize the SD and settings/storage crashed. So that tells me that your system is definitely not mounting the SD. It could be a faulty SD slot. Are you sure you are completely clicking the SD into the slot? Did the slot work well when running stock?
Edit: How does it act when you boot with no SD inserted? Does settings crash? And what happens if you insert the SD after it is booted to CM10.1? Does settings crash then?

You cannot move apps to SD with CM10.1. Apps2SD is not implemented.
And to access your external SD, you need to look in ext_sdcard. But CM10.1 on emmc uses the internal SD by default for everything. You can change that by flashing my swap SD zip from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. See item 4.

It is a Nook HD+ rom, and will not work on a non-Nook HD+ device. Try the roms in the Galaxy Exhibit development forum.
If This Helps Anyone...
I spent roughly 4 to 5 days' worth of working hours sitting here at my laptop, trying more and more frustratingly, to get my Nook HD+ to take the new CM Rom, and then dealt with about a dozen full 1080p HD movies I had already spent about 3 hours each to convert to .mp4 and the right size for my Nook, which now was not showing ANY of the content on my 32g SD card. Well, I tried all the formatting (using the SDformatter program), all the re-booting and putting the content directly on it through the Nook, and putting the files on it through my laptop, and I got nothing.
Finally, after noticing a theme among most of the users who were having problems specifically with SanDisk and/or 32gb sized cards, I took the awesome (and expensive) 64gb class 10 SDXC Samsung card out of my Note 2 phone, and formatted that one using the SDF program, and put it on 'exFAT', and after putting the blank card back in my Nook (powering it off fully first), I had to COPY THE FOLDER FROM THE NOOK'S MAIN STORAGE CALLED "MY FILES" AND PASTE IT INTO THE SD CARD STORAGE. Then, I opened it and made folders inside that one for Movies, Music, eBooks, etc... I then loaded the movies onto it via the Nook itself, making sure to paste the files into the SD folder. I also noticed that I needed to keep the Nook from falling asleep, and set it to the highest setting of time before it would go into sleep mode (30 min) and had to keep swiping the screen to reset that time. I also just loaded one large movie file or a few smaller video files at a time, because if the screen went off, or if I had videos loading onto the Nook for more than a couple minutes, then I would get the frequently reported error saying that it 'could not copy'.
After doing all of this, I was finally able to start a couple of my movies with minor problems. I hate how it says in the video player I was using, that you have to use the right side touchscreen to swipe on an invisible volume control up or down, and it was extremely sensitive but also not easy to control.
So, to review:
-Try using a different card other than SanDisk and 32gb
-DL the free SDformatter program and use that to format ANY card you put in your CM rooted Nook! Try to set it at 'exFAT' also.
-Power OFF the Nook before installing the new SD card.
-Then plug the Nook into your computer, and COPY-PASTE the file folder "My Files" in the Nook's MAIN STORAGE and put it into the SD card. Make folders inside this one to sort your movies, music, books, etc.
-Copy-Paste your files that are NOT eBooks from your computer into the new 'My Files' on the SD card. (I suggest using Calibre or another program to load eBooks into your Nook after you have gotten all the metadata correct for each book.) Keep the Nook 'awake' and do not allow the screen to enter sleep mode during loading of files. Make sure to load only about 3 minutes' worth, or no more than one LARGE movie file at a time onto the Nook, to prevent it from disconnecting and giving you an error pop-up.
That should do it, and if you have problems after this, then maybe ask around more. I only know how this works by my own extensive (and exhausting) trial and error...

That is what it is supposed to do, be 120 MB. And that 120Mb includes the CWM so you can flash the CM ROM. When you boot it in the nook, it further partitions it so that CM can be installed on the SD. Don't worry, the rest of your 8GB will be available.

Also do I just insert the sd card in and then it automatically reformats it and then I'm supposed to plug it back into my pc drag the cm10 files and then put it back into the nook again? Forgive my ignorance I really want to try this out though! I also forgot to mention that I haven't done anything with my nook, it's non rooted and then only thing I've done is sideloaded the playstore on there, that's it. My nook is completely stock.

I'm not sure you read my instructions. I said to put the CM zip, gapps zip and converter zip on the internal media SD built into the nook, not on the external SD inserted into your PC. So it does not matter if the SD is only 120 MB, you are copying nothing there. Just download the zips with stock to internal SD or hook your cable to the PC with stock booted and copy to internal SD.
EDIT: I just edited the OP to clarify all this.

Oh no I figured it out!!! I thought I deleted that comment I didnt want to embarrass myself.. I have another question, I'm using an 8gig card, but I want to get a 64gib card, what should I do when I get the new card, reburn and do the same steps? Thank you for replying to my question so quickly you're ****ing awesome! Wow I'm just messing around with cm10, it's like a new tablet, holy ****. Sketchbook pro appears to have less latency, finally I can draw! So what else is possible with cm10 now, what do you like about cm10 that wasn't possible before? Also what build prop is the tablet being seen as now?

If you want to move to a larger card, use win32diskimager to read the 8GB card to a file. The file will be 8GB. Then use win32diskimager to write that file to your new 64GB card. Then use partitioning software like Mini-Tool Partition Wizard to expand the last partition to the full size of the card.
The build prop is set as a B&N Nook HD.

I created a CWM SD card (SanDisk 8GB Class 4) and it booted CWM just fine, I backed up and installed Gapps and rooted it. Everything was working fine except I wanted to get "incompatible" apps to work from the Play store so I edited the build.prop (it worked for me in the past).
Then the next time it booted it would just loop the nook boot logo, so I ended up resetting the whole thing (back to 2.0.2). Then I registered it and updated it and it works fine (just no root or gapps).
But the only problem is now it won't boot from the SD card no matter what image I use. It just boots normally as if there was no SD card. The only reaction I got was from using the boot files from N2A (last ditch effort) and all that did was go to a blank screen after the nook logo.
So that's where I'm at, I can still use the nook for what it is, but I'd rather have root and the play store
Thanks
Read my HD/HD+ Tips thread and you will understand why your edit to the build.prop did not work. You cannot modify any /system file without it resetting itself. In fact, I think I told you that in my universal root thread.
It can sometimes be difficult to get the CWM SD to boot from a cold start (powered off). Maybe yry reburning the card again. I find sometimes I have to just keep trying, reinserting the card and powering off immediately when you see it is not going to boot to the SD, and starting again. But don't do this more than 8 times in a row without letting it boot to stock successfully at least once or it will reset.

Funny you should say that, because I just tried over and over and reburning and eventually it took! haha I was trying all day and finally got it working.
Everything is going good now, is there any way to fix the incompatible app issue on the play store? For now I can just download them elsewhere, but it would be nice to get em from the store

I was having a hell of a time trying to get the new HD+ to boot. Finally got it working everytime on boot using a 2GB card. I was previously using a 16GB class 10 card. I'm fortunate to still have these old 4GB and 2GB cards laying around. So if any of you are having issues I recommended trying that.
I'm having a similar issue. I put the CWM image onto a 16GB class 2 sandisk card and my nook hd+ just ignores it and boots normally. I used winimage. Has anyone had success with the 16gb class 2 sandisk? I have a 1gb card but that did not work either.
I'm following the instructions in this thread.

When I try reading the sdcard in my laptop after putting CWM on it the laptop tells me it needs to be formatted. Is that normal?

I formatted the card in the nook and made some progress with the rev6 sdcard tool, but the nook still ignores it when booting. The sdcard can be read on my laptop. I have lost.dir, mlo, u-boot, uImage, and uRamDisk. Only 8.3mb of the sdcard is used.
I noticed that when I tried to root the nook from the sd card, it will continuously boot regularly. I remember trying like 7-8 times and thought maybe it one on the nooks that would not boot from sd card no matter what.
I decided to format the sd card again and re-added all the needed files and somehow it just booted into the cwm screen. You would not believe how relieved I was not having to return it for another one.
I can only say be persistent and the sd card will get loaded.

I spent a couple hours trying to get my brand new HD+ to boot from a new SanDisk 64gb or an older Samsung 32gb. Neither booted - it'd always just boot to stock. For $9.99 @best Buy I got a PNY 4gb card with adapter. Formatted with SDFormatter, marked the partition active with MiniTool Partition Wizard. Copied the files linked in this thread. Under the "Obsolete Zips" section, I used the file:
NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-BOOTFILES-r4-(05.15.13).rar
Extracted, copied to the SD.
Booted first try and several subsequent times. Enough to get my recovery & CM 10.1 all set.
Oops, I was looking at the nook color thread. I got it to work today on my 1gb card. I quickly ran out of storage, but I saw enough to be convinced to install CM10 on the internal memory. Thanks for your help.

hi, worked perfectly thanks very much, people like you make this site so awesome
Once you burn ClockWorkMod (or any other recovery), your SD card becomes partitioned. The other partition can only be accessible by the Nook.
If you no longer want to use this SD card in your Nook, or would prefer just to use this card as a media card; you can use the software SDFormatter. Use this software to format, and your card will be restored back to it's factory settings (unless you decide to change the file system).
You can find this software for Windows here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/eula_windows or for Mac: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/eula_mac/
All the best.

Since I don't want to misplace the SD card I've left it in my Nook, but then whenever I reboot it, it boots off of the SD card and goes into the CWM on the card. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to activate the Cyanoboot menu on the card so that I could choose to boot from the card, or the EMMC, and possibly change the default so that it boots to the EMMC instead. I realize that this might not be the right forum as it isn't necessarily a Nook question, so thanks for any help.
Edit: I should specify that I used the 4GB CWM SD card image in Leapinlar's thread, and is the one I'd like to modify. Thanks.
Ask and Ye shall receive.
Attached below is a .rar file that has four files in it. Extract those files to the boot partition of your CWM SD, replacing any duplicates. It will add the cyanoboot menu to it. It will by default boot to CWM, but if you want to boot to emmc (stock or CM10.1 on emmc), hold the n key and the cyanoboot menu will come up and you can choose stock. If you want it to boot to emmc by default, just change the Default Boot Device from "CM10/10.1" to "Stock". Then it will boot to emmc if you do nothing. Then you can boot to CWM by using the cyanoboot menu.
You rock, thanks!

I know this thread is a bit old, but thanks! Didn't know if it would work,, but added it to my CM 10.2 SD so I could dual boot that and CarbonRom. Other than the menu having the wrong text, it works quite well.

I have the Stock BN rom on DS card and have 10.2 on native install.. but an i think as far as installing the dual boot menu i got that right..
but when i try to switch to the Stock BN rom living on the SD card it just says loading SD... but never continues to the BN boot animation.. or loads continues to login... it feels like a boot loop... do i have to have root access to get this to operate... i have 10.2 root but BN SD is not rooted... confused...
i would just like a boot menu to allow the option to boot to the BN SD card or default to native 10.2..
help?

Right thread this time! So this is dual boot thread (sorry about earlier Leapin!).
Took me about five minutes to get where I'd made my mistakes though even after finding this and trying again. Now that I understand how this installs, and that stock must be in emmc, I just have one question....do I place CM 10.1 on the root of my SD card as a zipped, or unzipped, file for it to load from the menu? Or is there still more to do other than just "sticking the file on there?"
I know this much...every day I have greater & greater respect for xda developers. To be willing to explain things so even myself can understand it a little - and put up w questions - has to be a chore in and of itself. Thank you!

First you need to go to verygreen's SD thread and make the early 7.1 CWM card. The put the CM10.1 zip on internal memory using stock. Then boot with the CWM SD you just made and after it finishes preparing the SD, install the zip from internal memory. Then you can use the files in this thread to put the cyanoboot menu on that SD.

Ok, I seem to be / was good until I got to installing zip from internal memory. This is what has happened so far.
1. Created 7.1 CWM SD with win32 disc imager ...No probs
2. Not enough room on external card to place CM 10.1 zip file even though I started with 16 Gb....so I assumed you meant load CM 10.1 to Nook HD+ internal memory from my PC...no problem there.
3. This is where I got stuck: 7.1 card booted up just fine, but then I wasn't quite sure what next step was...found "install zip from internal SD" and tried that, but of course it sent the update - apparently - to emmc, as Cyanogenmod spinner logo now comes up after reboot.
So my question is how do I need to go about installing from internal memory once CWM 7.10 is running. Is there an adb command I'l need, or did I just choose wrong option?

You used the correct menu item.
If you used an sdcard version of the CM zip, it should have put it on the SD. You can tell by popping the SD out of the slot and booting. It should still boot to stock if you used the correct version. Then when you put the SD back in the slot it should boot to CM.
If you have it correct, then use the files in this thread to add the cyanoboot menu so you can boot back and forth without taking the card out.

Missing memory on SD CM10 boot
First post so I hope I'm putting this in the right place.
I have a Nook HD+ 32GB
I' ve started with Leapinlar's
[CWM/ROOT/EXTRAS] HD/HDplus Stock Root and other Mods
I've then used verygreen's
[Nook HD+] CM10.1 development for sdcard last update 09/04
All that seems to be fine but in CM10.1
Settings - storage reports internal memory 1GB and no SD memory or available mounts
x-plore reports /storage/emulated/0 and /Root as 850MB free of 1GB
Without the SD card - reverting to stock - I have 2.44GB used and 26.56GB available.
Is the 1GB apparently available on a partion on the SD card? I only had a 2GB SD going spare - this now has three partitions, the boot files and two others, one of 1GB. If I'd used a 32GB card would I have 31GB free?
But, more importantly, can anyone tell me how I get CM to give me my 32GB of internal storage back?
Please?
FWIW I expect to run CM10 from internal memory in the long run, but want to be sure that a couple of critical apps run OK before replacing the B&N stock.

Everything is as it should be. You only have 1GB for 'sdcard' since you only used a 2GB SD. If you had used a 32GB, you would have close to 31GB for 'sdcard'.
And on an SD install, the internal memory is still there but not as 'sdcard'. It shows as a folder named 'emmc'.
Since you are planning on installing CM to internal memory, it will be even different yet. 'Sdcard' will be your internal memory and your external SD will be shown as ext_sdcard.
And do not pay too much attention to the settings/storage. People get very confused when reading that since it mixes apples and oranges. (Media storage and app storage).

Finally...it worked! Thanks leapinlar, for all your help!
I encountered the situation above and am wondering if, say, instead of the 2GB card I use a 16 GB...that gives me 16 GB of storage for the CM 1.0 tablet, and my regular flash storage also stays 16 GB? Or all the apps are by default stored on the emmc?

On the SD install, both media and apps get stored on the SD. If you use a 16GB SD to install CM to, it will have about 15GB available for media and app storage instead of 1GB on the 2GB card. But 2GB is really too small to be running CM. You will be running out of app and media storage very quickly.
Since you will be dual booting, when booted to stock the media and apps will be stored on internal memory. You will either have 13GB or 28GB available on stock on emmc depending on the size of the device (16 or 32GB model).

Updating SD version of CM 10.1
I know I've seen this elsewhere, but can't find it...if I go to update the rom on the SD card, it makes sense to me that I would need to load the latest SD version from verygreen's page...or can I just update from settings and not lose dual boot? Also, will a dirty install work so that the data is not lost? (backups are always good )
Man we're enjoying dual boot. My Acer a500 is unreliable so I backed the "build a city town park" up with Helium app. Long story short, with dual boot my kid and I get to continue building and enjoying our monsters in "Monsterama Park" by booting to CM 10.1and restoring data, yet I don't have to give up some of the reader features that I really like with the original Nook OS. Marvelous find....again, thanks y'all for the hard work!

Do not use settings to update an SD install. It will try to put the new ROM on internal replacing stock. Go get the latest SD ROM from the verygreen thread. You can dirty install it with the SD install's CWM.

So there is no way to switch the menu for stock on sdcard?

I'm a little confused. I've put verygreens stock on sdcard and have cm 10.2 on emmc. If the images are renamed can you boot with the menu into stock on sd or cm 10.2 from emmc? If not is there a second solution?

I need some help with creating an SD card to boot android from on a Nook HD.
I tried this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
I used an old 8gb sandisk micro SD i got from a cell phone
Used win32 disk imager and flashed generic-sd card image onto the root of sd card
Then I took out the card and re-inserted it to get it recognize the new image as F:boot which has 4 files on it MLO U-boot, U ram disk, and u image
Then I went to install CM 7.2 files onto the SD - that's where i ran into trouble. It gave "Error No Room on Disk". I looked at the space on the Sd card and it said it was only 113Mb. _Please help. What did i do wrong when flashing the image file onto SD card to make the sd card smaller?
Thanks in advance for your help.
You have really got things mixed up. This is a Nook HD/HD+ thread and you linked to a Nook Color thread (they are different devices). CM7 does not run on the Nook HD. No wonder things are not working for you.
If you truly have a Nook HD, find a Nook HD thread for installing CM to SD (has to be CM10/CM10.1/CM10.2 though).

Thank you for the reply. I checked and yes I do have a Nook HD 8GB. I got it from walmart for $129.
So just to confirm - No CM7 will run on Nook HD?
Can you install CM 10 without rooting the device? And if so, is a non-rooted install that runs directly off the SD Card significantly slower than it was flashed to internal memory?
If CM 10 has to be installed to the internal memory, are there dual boot options that would keep what i have on the nook saved?
Also, I noticed when i tried to put CM7 on the SD card, it created a 113 image file, and left the remainder of the disk as "unallocated" - so during the install process how does that unallocated space get turned into usable space?
Any link for the build I need would be very appreciated. Not trying to get anyone to do the work for me, with all the different builds and install files, its complicated for a first timer.
Thanks for help

No, CM7 will run on the Nook HD.
You do not have to root stock to run CM from SD. You can run CM10.1 from the SD and leave stock intact. So you can boot back and forth. If you do, I recommend the hybrid install here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36668001
It runs more quickly and has more stability. But be warned the instructions can be confusing.
There are no dual boot options that allow you to fully install two systems to internal memory.
And that old Nook Color SD that you used is different than how the Nook HD SD is installed. But you do have to follow directions to get everything to work and fit.
