Unable to call/text when roaming - LG Optimus 4X HD

I have had this phone close to two months now
In the last two weeks or so, I have been unable to make/receive calls or text messages while im in roaming
My provider allows me to do so, and have called and been told that my account is able to
Is there some app not allowing me to do so? I have uninstalled the apps that can make calls that I had but still no luck (Skype, Tango, Kakao Talk and Text)
Please help!!! Maybe something in the hidden menus perhaps, just need help where to look...
Thanks

slide down the statusbar. Hold on the data toggle. Settings should appear. Make sure roaming is ticked

did you tried to contact LG costumer support ?

not yet, guess i have to
Anyone know if the RemoteCall service is any good?

Would factory resetting the phone make any difference? Could an app have really done this sort of disabling?

well, p880g is canadian model - you're from canada i guess?
first off, did it work before? if it did, then factory reset is 98% sure to help. if you re-flash kdz, i think you have 99% chance of making it work. that 1% is for some obscure problem that came up, and is exclusive with p880g, which not many of people here have.

[SOLVED] Airplane mode problem

Hi all!
When i switch-off the airplane mode, my nexus one ( stock 2.3.3 ) doesn't reconnect to the normal network ( gsm/umts,2g/3g ) for calls and messages.
The airplane symbol disappears and appears a little rectangle with a ! on it and the message "Emergency call only".
If i switch the phone off and then on, it connects correctly as usual and i can call and send sms as usual.
How can i solve this boring problem?
Thank you so much!
Sounds like it's a defect with the radio. You may want to call HTC for a repair/replacement if you're still in warranty.
Thanks for the answer!
I am still on warranty, but that would be annoying i think..
May it be a software problem?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If you think its software your could try doing a factory restore. I'm sure others can chime in with how to do this... or how to downgrade and upgrade again. See if that resolves it.

Its most likely software like it might not have updated to gingerbread right because in the process of updating there was several updates from 2.2 to 2.3.3 that includes a radio upgrade but it might not have receved that one update before it reveved gingerbread
I know cause i have a nexus one as well as a g2
Its worth a look at

Problem was dued to NoLock App.
When the lock was disabled, the sim card ( i must unlock it with the pin code) couldn 't reconnect.
I suddenly discovered it this morning .
With lock on, airplane mode works perfectly

emergency calls fail

Let me prefix my post with: please don't call 911 just to "test" your phone if this post title has worried you. There is no reason to believe you have a 911 calling problem (more explained below) and you will take up valuable resources from others who actually have an emergency and need immediate help.
I am the owner of a Samsung SGH-i896 Captivate. Today I had to call 911. The call failed. It acted like it was placing the call to 911, it said "Emergency number" on the screen as it acted like it was dialing, and then in half a second the call failed. Other calls worked fine. I had service. Thankfully I was able to use the phone of a friend that was with me to successfully dial 911.
I know this is really really horrible, especially since my little warning at the top of this thread... but when I came home I removed the SIM from my phone and tried to dial 911 to see if it would ring. It didn't work. The lock screen says "No SIM card." and "Emergency calls only". The phone shows full reception bars. When I dial 911 the screen flashes "Out of service area" at the top with a phone picture underneath and then the text"Emergency number". This comes up for 1 second then the dialer exits to my home screen.
I'd like your help to track down this problem.
Dial 112 (911 is only for us phones)

911 is used in Canada. And the SGH-I896 is a Canadian phone.
Have you thought of it more as a network issue, and not a phone issue? I have unfortunately had to dial 911 from my Captivate before, and it worked fine. I'm using an i9000 ROM with an i9000 modem in non-3G service areas.

I'm not sure then does 112 work? Don't call just to test it but it should work I had this problem on an early i9000 rom 112 worked for me... this should be moved to Q&A though it is a bit of an issue... I guess no one realty tests the emergency call features...

Perhaps the issue warrants the attention of developement.
I had to dial 911 on my phone. live in us using cognition 4 and it would not work.
Hmm perhaps this does does need more attention if it still doesn't work on cog 4... I had this problem when the first froyo cog rom came out... I do believe it was brought up then & 112 was the temporary fix but I can't believe 911 still doesn't work...

112 gives me the same "Out of service area" like when I dial 911 without a SIM.
Alright, so I installed Rogers stock 2.2. I tried with both SIM in and SIM out. I'm not able to dial 911 in either case. Call fails with SIM in, and I get the "Out of service" message when SIM is out.
Sounds like there is definitely something wrong with my phone.
Ok so I can confirm that 911 does work on cog 4.3 on the i897 on att in us so I think it does have something to do with the missing nvdata but why would you still be able to make regular calls & not emergency calls that seems backwards hmm?

If you give me an idea on how to fix it, I will test it out...
I have an i897 and have have used it on phoenix (not sure the version), and andromeda 2.1. Not sure how to test, but that does seem like an network problem. Phone not connecting properly.
I tried putting in a SIM from another carrier. 911 emergency calls don't go through.
I tried putting in a SIM from another carrier. All calls work, not 911. Tested on Rogers and Bell Canada.
Thought I herd on android central podcast that the problem was known?

I just checked. Looks like that's a problem for the Vibrant and only when calling from the lock screen. Seems unrelated to this issue, since those people can still call from the dialer once they unlock their phone.
For anyone who has this problem in the future: I'm pretty sure it was related to having lost the phone's original /efs/ folder including nv_data.bin. You have to have a backup nv_data to restore from to fix the problem, or else it needs to go to samsung for servicing to be re-flashed. This fixed my phone. (well, got a replacement...)
For anyone who has this problem in the future: I'm pretty sure it was related to a bad upgrade to 2.2 via Samsung Kies... Replacement phone is working fine for now.

Nexus 6 outgoing sms problem on regional cdma carrier

I have a problem using the Nexus 6 on my carrier, "Bluegrass Cellular" which is a regional cdma/lte carrier partnered with Verizon Wireless under their "LRA" (LTE in rural America) program. This issue happens with other carriers under the same agreement, and a few other carriers per Google search but I couldn't find any solutions. Issue doesn't seem to be ROM dependant either. If more carrier specific info is needed I can provide it.
Before a wonky work around mentioned next, this is the issue. Problem is if connected to LTE, everything works, calls in and out, mms in and out, and receiving sms. But you cannot send sms. If you are connected to LTE, when you send a sms it will fail with the message message, "cant send message (insert carrier name) error -1. But you could downgrade network to 3g and you can send fine. But back to LTE no sms.
Only fix/work around my friend found is to flash the android m preview radio. With that, sms sends, but it takes 30-45 seconds to send per text.
Does anyone have any ideas? Android m radio with delay is better than nothing, but it's still rather frustrating. Thanks in advance for any inputs.

Yeah it is. Hopefully someone has suggestions on how to fix it or have any info on what's making it hold up when it sends. No idea why it sends instantly on 3g, 40 seconds on LTE on m radio, but no sending at all on lte any lp radio. Would it be a radio problem maybe I'm not sure... With all the proper apns set (not that it should matter for sms) I don't know what else it could be.

Sms sending problem when using on Verizon LRA partner carrier

My carrier refuses to help me with this issue since it's not a phone that they carry.
First some background info. I have a problem using the Nexus 6 on my carrier, "Bluegrass Cellular" which is a regional cdma/lte carrier partnered with Verizon Wireless under their "LRA" (LTE in rural America) program. This issue I can guarantee happens with every user using the device on other carriers under the same agreement. Friend who uses a n6 on another partnered carrier has the same problem. The Issue doesn't seem to be ROM dependant either. If more carrier specific info is needed I can provide it.
Before a wonky work around mentioned next, this is the issue. Problem is if connected to LTE, everything works properly, calls in and out, mms in and out, and receiving sms as normal. But you cannot send sms (pre 14r radio, after 14r radio sends but delays). If you are connected to LTE, when you send a sms it will fail with the message message, "cant send message (insert carrier name) error -1. But you could downgrade network to 3g and you can send fine. But back to LTE sms lags.
Only fix/work around is to flash any m preview radio. Which leads me to think it could possibly be radio related. With those, sms sends, but it takes 40 seconds to send per text. Does anyone have any ideas? 14r+ radio with delay is better than nothing, but it's still rather frustrating.
Outgoing sms on LTE/cdma: average 40 second delay to send message, with higher than normal send failure rate.
Outgoing sms with LTE disabled: sms sends within 5 seconds.
Still when on LTE there is no delay on receiving texts. Only sending.
I Tried sms over ims on/off and a few other pokes and prods, no different. Can provide logcat or anything else if desired. Just trying to get an idea what's going on.
Tl;Dr
APNS are set properly, mms in/out works fine, calls in/out work fine, receiving sms is fine, sending sms on cdma 1x/3g is fine.. Just sending sms on LTE has a roughly 40 second send time with a abnormal send failure rate.
Sorry for the long post I am just trying to cover all the bases for which could be applicable to finding a solution. Thanks in advance for any inputs!

Same issue
I just switched to Bluegrass Cellular today and brought my Nexus 6 aboard and am experiencing the exact same issue. I am running Android 5.1.1 with baseband: MDM9625_10446.01.02.101R and cannot send SMS outbound at all. I can receive SMS, calls, and data all fine, but no outbound texts will go through at all. I will follow the advice already in this thread and update to Android M preview to see if the updated baseband will "sorta" fix the issue so I can at least send outbound, even if it is delayed. I am willing to provide logs if anyone can look into this issue and see a possible resolution.
M preview radio will sorta fix it and make it so it will send on LTE after a delay of like 40 seconds. If you are on 1x/3g sms will work fine.

No need to flash the entire M. Just flash the radio unless you want more that don't work.
I just wish we could figure out why it delays and how to resolve it. Any radio but m preview sms will just fail after so long. M preview radio will delay but eventually send after average 45 seconds. It's just so odd to me.
Calls in out fine
Mms in out fine
Sms in fine
Sms out 1x/3g fine
Sms out LTE no m radio no send
Sms out LTE m radio 40 seconds to send but will send.
Interestingly enough if you go into network settings and set to LTE only rather than LTE cdma sms will not send. So I can't tell if it's radio or it not wanting to use the ims features I'm really lost at this point

If it is delayed it is carrier. Nothing you do to device outside APN and PRL will fix in my opinion. Carrier/tower problem.

Ok, I flashed the 24R Android M Preview 3 baseband to my phone last night and texts were still failing altogether this morning when on LTE. I had alot of text messages on my phone (over 21,000 total according to the SMS Backup and Restore app). I deleted alot of old text messages on my phone and my texts are now going through without delay. However...MMS is still not working, but I suspect that has something to do with me not having a Bluegrass APN setup on my phone (if anyone has BG's APN settings, I would be happy if you could provide me a link to them, because I do not see them on their website).

If you want to use mms on a non bluegrass phone you are limited to one specific texting app "8sms" with mms settings as shown in picture. Make sure you don't forget the last setting X-MDN:##LINE1#. Mainly you need the mmsc mms on wifi (yes bluegrass supports it) and the extra http header above.

Why would it work fine in other phones across multiple carriers in this instance? I've tested several different phones also and I've noticed this happens only in Motorola phones not made specifically for Verizon lra carriers. I've used a Verizon galaxy s4 and everything worked great. It feels like somewhere in the radio software or wherever is not letting the ims feature work.

Still Occuring on Android 6.0
So here's an update. I had been running Android 5.1.1 on my Nexus 6 for months with the 24R baseband and had zero problems with SMS being delayed. Everything worked like normal. I updated to Android 6.0 which installed the 27R baseband and the delayed SMS issue is back. I tried reverting the baseband to 24R and the delayed SMS issue was still present. Any ideas on how to fix this? I will be happy to provide logs or any other diagnostic information.
Odd....
Quite frankly, I'm still baffled by this issue. I bought the Nexus 6p and am still with Bluegrass Cellular. Once I popped in my SIM and had them change my IMEI number, I thought that the delayed SMS issue would be a thing of the past. The issue is STILL PRESENT on the Nexus 6p which is manufacturered by an entirely different company than the 6 was (Huawei). I don't suspect it is the radio any longer, as this has happened to me on multiple phones.
I've been toying with different remedies and strategies for months. I've started thinking it's software related and needs to be addressed to Google, but unfortunately I highly doubt they'd care.

Didn't know you had a thread going for this. Do you still need 8sms with those headers added? I could probably change your http header elsewhere and get it working with all message apps.
For the SMS delayed issue, I have found a fix with the help of @evilryry and have made a flashable for it. Just waiting for a little more confirmation so I can be sure to give accurate instructions.

I can comment that I've been using Google messenger for somebtime now and it's been fully functional. Just have to restore apns with apn backup and restore that I got from a rooted thumb cellular phone and then add mms line to apn type under vzwinternet and so far so good.

Network connection failed??

I have a MOTO X 2014 pure and every time I wake it up I see a little message pop up in the middle of the the screen, reading "network connection failed". I still get all my data connectivity and alerts (as far as I know) ..I tested using speedtest and get great upload and download speeds, but this alert is bugging the heck out of me.
Anyone know what causes this or how to fix it?

Well...I may have found the cause.
Everything was fine and I switched over to an old Blackberry q10 for a few days by switching the sim card. Everything worked but after a while I went back to my MOTO X and the network failure alert started. I looked at my account on AT&T and saw that my data plan had gone from "smartphone data" to "BlackBerry data".
After leaving the sim in the MOTO X the alert occurred less and less. Now my account data is " smartphone data" again and the alerts seem to have stopped.
This must have just been caused by the BlackBerry forcing a different data type in the account and the MOTO X trying to resolve it.
..just for the general knowledge in case any one else runs into a similar problem.

It turns out that the network problem had returned. I still have "smartphone data" on my account ...So that wasn't the issue.
After digging around on my phone I found an app called iVMS4500 that I use to keep track of DVRs and cameras I've installed.... Well it appears that app is the cause. Whenever I start the app then swipe it closed..even if I log out ..I get the network error, but if I FORCE STOP the app, the network error disappears.
So it appears that the network issue was caused entirely by the app.
In case anyone else runs into this. Check any apps that may use a network connection when closed..perhaps ones that run background notifications.
I FORCE closed the app and the problem disappeared.
