The NextRadio FM app has been released: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio
EDIT: I've got it now and will be examining it. So my original reason for posting is gone, but feel free to post anything except "FM is as dead as VCRs etc..." LOL.

I see no option. That's really too bad, though.
What's the difference between this app and the stock app? It's not bad. Maybe the GPe folks will enjoy this?
I did a factory reset yesterday and this app was automatically installed as part of the default Sprint ID Pack download when you first start up your phone. Interesting...

Yeah, that happened to me, too, after I unlocked my booloader (and deleted my data).

I'm not aware of a single modern smartphone readily available in the 1st world that has an HD Radio chip.
No GPE or AOSP, it will only work on phones that have the HTC FM Service that normally only exists on stock ROMs with a working stock app.
It wouldn't work on my OneV or OneX without crashing.
But it worked "OK" on my HTC One with a stock Viper ROM.
The app is "under-whelming" IMO.
More details on my thread for anyone interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44669987#post44669987
fm isn't dead yet! haha
i still try to use fm radio when i commute. i use iheartradio but go through some data deadspots so gonna try this out.
Does anyone like this app ?
I'm not too impressed, but on day 1 the app had 4 ratings & no reviews I think, and was rated 5.
Now it's rated 4.7 and has mostly positive reviews.
There are many "services" out there that provide people to positively rate and review apps. So I get a bit suspicious when an app is new, doesn't seem that great to me, yet ratings/reviews are almost all positive.
Does it deserve a 4.7 rating, at least among US users who are the target ?

If this works only on Sense ROMs and only on the One (right? If not, I'm sure all phones capable of FM have their own apps), what is the point of this app? I does nothing that the stock app doesn't do.
Maybe the ratings are just "not bad."
EDIT: I used the app and browsed its features, and it seems that it has a lot more features like Genre, Album art, local stations, favorites, physical tuner, etc.I'll definitely be using this in lieu of the stock app.

Depends on the station. The app developer Emmis Communications owns some stations, and on some of them they support this extra data, IF you have an Internet connection.
Doesn't work if you don't live in the US or don't use one of the stations that doesn't specifically support this.
I think Emmis is charging stations, some of whom are direct competitors, to get that extra data added.
If they are calling this "hybrid radio", it seems to mean you must have FM OTA AND Internet access simultaneously. Might as well stream, I'd think, unless you have significant gaps in data coverage and are OK with losing that extra data in those gaps, without RDS to fallback on.

That works, considering Sprint's crappy everything.

I think the main advantage to using FM is battery life. Since you're not using the mobile radio, just FM reception, it's power efficient.
It's one of the reasons why I like to download my podcasts instead of streaming them.

Good point, it's one of the benefits they tout, though it applies to any OTA FM of course:
Get 3X BETTER battery life compared to streaming music

But I see they also say:
Uses 90% LESS data than streaming music

So they're saying they still use 10% of the data of a streaming app ? I wonder what they need all that for. Sending occasional text and graphics to the phone shouldn't use much. But I wonder how much info they're sending (and what) from the phone to their servers...
Edit: Hmm, some quick calculations and 100-200 KBytes for a graphic or two every minute doesn't seem too out of line. But I'd presume this is only true when the app is on-screen. I guess it's easy enough to check the data use.
Anyone gotten this to work on Sprint HTC One? When I try to install it, it says "This item isn't available on your carrier" which seems like BS to me.

Wut. Isn't this part of the sprint package?
Anyway, I had it working. Gonna install it again (had factory resetted) and report.
I has it. It works. There's a little more data associated with radio listening, and it logs everything so you can get back to content later if you want to. Not sure if there's too much value-add, as I don't think radio listening needs to be that complicated. If you only have the default app, you're not missing that much.
One really nice benefit to these FM tuners is that if I go to an Oakland Athletics game, I can listen to the FM game broadcast in realtime without burning up the battery.
Well I just tried again and am getting carrier not allowing, so something probably changed.

Try using a debloated Rom. I'm on stock non rooted, just started fresh. It works.
However, I didn't install the sprint default configuration. Could that have something to do with it?
Well I've tried resetting my device and even signing into Google with a different account and it won't install. I didn't install the Sprint software either. Basically only connected to my router, so nothing is installed.
The icon isn't even on anywhere to be found after the reset and when search for the App on my phone it doesn't even show it, but if I check from my computer it does and show's it's not compatible with any of my devices.
I just got this phone a couple days ago and first thing I did was HTC software update, where there was one and I installed it.
Under Settings->About(and sub menus)I have:
Hardware Version 004
Software version 1.31.651.2
Android 4.1.2
HTC Sense 5.0
HTC SDK 5.12
Kernal 3.4.10-g30a4e11
Baseband version 1.00.20.0626
Build number 1.31.651.2.CL213167 release-keys
Also, while I'm at it, I don't have a Hotspot option under settings.

Personally, I don't like any of the radio stations around here, so I prefer streaming. Plus, you don't get as many (or no) ads. But, let's say I DID want to listen to FM Radio, I'd rather do so with an app like this than TuneIn, let's say. It seems to me they're trying to take the best bits of Stock FM app and TuneIn. Sounds like good enough logic to me.

Hi All
Straight to the point:
Is it possible to create a rom that is very light wieght such that it no longer has the capacity to function as a phone (no phone.apk, no sim reading, no 3g). So it is just a wifi tablet. And in doing so will this free up memory/space/speed up the device.
Basically is it possible, or is it strongly coupled within the android source?
Best Regards
DarkFlare
I imagine things like phone and mms.apk would be easy to remove, but things like the network location reporting service would be a good deal more difficult.
Settings/Wireless & networks/Mobile networks:
Uncheck "Data enabled"
Settings/Location & security:
Uncheck "Use wireless networks"
Uncheck "Use GPS satellites"
Now set up your wifi connection and you've got exactly what you're asking for.
Removing apks doesn't help performance in any way whatsoever. You free up space in /system, but that's just about it and, since that partition is read-only, there's no benefit to having more free space on it, you wouldn't be able to use it anyway.
Also note, removing TelephonyProvider.apk also has a chance (it did in cupcake back when I had the same stupid idea) of disabling ALL your wireless connections, including wifi.
Seemed like a good idea.
It's like a step in the wrong direction. In this day and age where you can take your internet anywhere, I see no purpose on gimping a device capable from it's wireless data connectivity.
The device supports all of those features (phone, data) so why keep them unused?
I know that for some of us it feel like carrying features we don't use is like carrying extra weight, but, when you thing about it, the features are still there even if you remove access to them...
This might be what you want instead: http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/26/augens-150-android-tablet-hits-kmart-circular-coming-to-store/
Well, what if someone does not need the telephony functions? Disabling them will not remove or unload them from RAM, so it will take same amount of memory, but if he wants to have them unloaded, he's got to remove them.
I think this would be cool. I wanted to do something simliar with my MT3G when I geta new phone so I could basically turn it into my remote control for things like XBMC. Figured fully removing things such as Phone, 3G, Bluetooth, basically only leaving wifi would save heavily on battery.
Then again I guess I could turn all that stuff off as well.

This is precisely what I am aiming to achieve. Personally I use EventGhost to controll my win 7 pc, but any remote app would do.

I understand what your saying however Im not looking to just deprive connectivity. I figure if the phone doesnt have a Sim card then theres no reason for it to have the ability to recieve sms so remove all the apps that are setting up broadcast recievers for sms, and/or the code that is emitting the broadcast reciever for sms. This is just an example. But there must be things that can be removed that relate to the sim/phone side.
The tablet you linked too doesnt interest me at all since its a new device and my goal is to repurpose an old (and loved =P) device.
Any rom devs care to kick in there two cents about how achievable any of this is? Removing apk's just seems partially cosmetic as Im thinking its more core than that.
Also thanks to all who have provided responces, its great to have some discussion about this
I will take a Froyo ROM and strip it for you, some time next week.

Sounds ace, could you detail some what your planning on doing? Since Im not planning on retiring my g1 just yet but would love to know the steps to create a rom like that further down the line!
you just need to read the cm wiki and you'll find what you need
SO if I understand it right, you want to make it so your phone cannot connect to any GSM service, am I right? And you would like to be able to still use the internet with wifi. Removing APK's or editing framework or the kernel won't change anything. The only way to completely achieve what you want is installing a radio that only supports wifi. No such radio is currently available. You will have to code your own. lbcoder proved that a mismatching radio+SPL=brick, so if I was you I wouldn't be messing with that. Best advice I can give is to switch to airplane mode.
So basically, you want to use your device like an iPad or iPod Touch? Correct me if i'm wrong.
The real thing I still have a problem with is that, as far as I can tell, OP is still thinking that there's some benefit to removing apps rather than just disabling data.
Sure, you can do it, but there's really no point, no benefit, nothing.

If that's the case, and I'm on the right track, then I guess you'd also like the build coming together nicely.
I'm not a fan of force-closes, and if you remove stuff, you're bound to find points in the OS where pressing the wrong thing (for example, on Gallery app, choosing the "send via MMS" option) will give you a force-close.
I guess if you want a MID-esque build that actually comes together nicely (ie, disables all menu options and anything else that would cause a force-close due to just plainly removing apks), then I do guess you have a nice project on your hands.
A straight build from AOSP should give you something close, don't know if you'd want Market and Gapps too.
I guess I'll get your mind jogging. Ok, so imagine you do make such a build, then you're still dealing with the fact that your phone still has the hardware and, because of it's nature (a system-on-chip), the radio, etc, are still consuming battery.
You'll never be able to remove everything and you'll always have that itch for "now how do I get rid of this?"...

.. one thing to note is that the mismatched radio/spl brick was due to the KERNEL not booting. Things like FASTBOOT still work, and the only reason they are inaccessible is that the MISC partition is telling the SPL to boot recovery.
Something that recently occurred to me is that it may be possible to replace the radio code with something a little more generic, like redboot http://ecos.sourceware.org/ecos/hardware.html . If you disable the radio processor and don't allocate any memory to it (or very very little), you may even be able to reclaim the memory otherwise being lost to it, i.e. the device actually has 192 MB of RAM, but we only have <100 available to Android.
http://ecos.sourceware.org/fom-serv/ecos/cache/27.html
** doesn't that look just perfect?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the radio processor is exclusively for cell service and that wifi and bluetooth don't depend on it. If this is the case, then you'd be able to use it as a fully functional wifi phone with 192 MB RAM. Even if this is incorrect, read the next paragraph for alternative. Or, of course, a bluetooth or wifi dongle.
A second interesting thought.... USB host mode + UMTS modem = cell phone with cell phone service (or at least VoIP) with 192 MB RAM. Side effect being, of course, that there is a usb dongle duct taped onto the back of the phone, but for adding in close to an extra 100 MB of ram, worth it?
I think that at this point, people should start looking into crazy ideas and weird hacks. Some of this stuff is *DEFINITELY* possible. Even weird things may be possible, like taking over the radio core as a second CPU core (albeit a slower one). Its not like the radio core is a mystery... its an ARM9, so its a simple (eh, in theory) matter of shoving something in that is built for the appropriate instruction set.

On MSM7201A, the modem "owns" the bulk of the clock control registers and the PMIC (and thus voltage rail control), and Linux issues low level rpc calls (proc_comm) to the modem to control clocks and power. Also the modem is responsible for handling power collapse and sleep modes.
If you're going to replace the stock modem firmware, you're going to need to somehow provide this functionality in its place, otherwise Linux is dead in the water.

I wanted the Note to begin with but went with the S2. I'm in the process of selling my S2 now on CL. I have a few questions first:
1. How's the GPS?
2. ANy issues with AT&T(i assume I can just pop my AT&T SIM in and be good to go).
3. Do market apps work fine with the Notes big screen or do they look crappy because they weren't meant for a large screen?
4. How's every one generally liking the phone? How is it to make calls on (holding up to ones face not via BT).
Info is needed:
I'm on a unlimited 4G plan with AT&T (already using the S2 now) <-----not sure if this matters
Anything else would be excellent. Thanks again guys. Looking to get this then throw a ROM on for speed, remove bloat, tethering (should already be unlocked since not a carrier version) and cleanness.
I have found that it works EXACTLY like the GSII. The screen has one more row for shortcuts.
You'll not notice any difference, other than the enormous size difference. I have huge hands, so the size doesn't matter to me. It's actually quite comfortable.
I just hope some better cases come out for it. There is nothing but crap available now.
Thank you for your thoughts on the device. I'm looking to get one ASAP. Espically since that and the S2 will get ICS in Q1 2012. I know the international versions will get it much quicker then the carrier (AT&T, etc) locked down versions.
GPS is best on the market, literally. its using a new setup that allows for access to many more satellites and locks on better than most dedicated GPS units.
apps are hit and miss. some scale fully, some dont scale at all. theres an app to resize apps though.
i dont use BT when i make calls. its a good sized phone. only downside is that there is a fair bit of leakage out of the earpiece, ie. people around you can often hear both sides of the conversation.

Facebook and TapaTalk both work great. No issues whatsoever. I have not seen any rendering issues at all. There have been a few apps that won't download because they say they don't work on a tablet. The phone shows up as a tablet in the Android Market.

GPS is Fantastic! Better than the SGSII. ( I had SGSII for 3 weeks and also have a skyrocket) I routinely get a lock INSIDE my house!
You can pop your ATT SIM in but you must configure the APN for Data and MMS.
I have downloaded about 20 (not finished yet) apps to my GNote and they all look fine!
I have only made calls with bluetooth. I have not held to my ear yet except at home. It seems a bit large to do that. My skyrocket is crap with bluetooth but the GNote has been great with my car.
I do not like swipe or the samsung keyboard. Had to download the gingerbread keyboard. I have used several but keep coming back to that one.
Typing is 1000 time easier and better. For the life of me I could not type accurately type on the SGSII...
The screen resolution will blow you away! Watch that video that comes on it! WOW! There is no bloat as with ATT.
I do not know if ATT can detect the tether or not? When I log on to my ATT account it does not show the phone I am using. Does anyone know for sure?

1. The GPS is fantastic! It literally outperforms anything else I have ever used, including dedicated stand-alone GPS units.
2. There was initially an issue with AT&T where a particular range of Note IMEI's were being erroneously detected as a tablet device on the system. This issue seems to have been resolved. Even then, not every Note is/was affected anyway. The only other thing I can recommend (apart from configuring the correct APN's, which you can find throughout this forum) is to disable Fast Dormancy. Enter *#*#9900#*#* from your dialer and disable that feature from the menu that pops up. Basically it's a feature that AT&T doesn't use, and disabling it on your Note will vastly improve data speed and reliability.
3. So far I haven't had any issues with apps. Everything I've used looks fine so far.
4. Generally I'm loving the Note. There are a couple of minor (for me anyway) niggles. Mainly, it definitely is a big laggier than the SGS2, but not to the point where it's a deal breaker for me. The lag can mostly be attributed to software for now, but I expect these issues will mostly be solved when ICS is released for it. In the mean time, using SPB Shell 3D in tablet mode instead of TouchWiz has worked wonders. The side button on the s-pen is a little difficult to find just by feeling around for it, but that can be alleviated by etching a # pattern with a razor blade onto the button, giving it just a little more texture. As for actual call quality, honestly it's the clearest and best sounding call quality I have ever heard on a phone, period. Even better than most wired phones I've used!

Well, considering that our unlocked devices are free of any AT&T bloatware or other intrusiveware that would otherwise report the specific use of our own equipment, I'm willing to bet that the only way AT&T would be able to detect that we're tethering is to perform deep packet inspection in order to determine the kind of traffic going through the device. I have tethered with both my old unlocked SGS2 and now my Note using only the stock Android tethering ability with no issues. However, I would recommend that you tether only when absolutely necessary and not abuse it, lest you risk being spotted by the Evil Eye of Sauron. Basically, as long as you don't draw unnecessary attention to yourself, you should be fine.
Sorry to put this on an entire thread, but does anyone here have MLB At-Bat on their 2013 Moto X, and if so does the video work? Everytime I try and watch an actual game, I get an "error: cannot play video" and kicks me back to the apps home screen.
Irritating since I pay $130/year and it works on my Roku, PC etc. The app never had this issue before this season. Stock Moto X on Sprint. Wifi or 4G, doesn't matter. MLB has been less than helpful

I have At Bat, but only pay for the audio subscription. I do watch the live look ins and have watched the multi-angle views during the playoffs (free) without issue. Have you tried on WiFi vs cellular? Is GPS on? They use GPS and/or network location to determine blackout policies, so if they can't resolve it, it may error out. Hard to say...

I have atbat and video works just fine for me. Make sure you're signed in, and make sure the app is updated. Or try a re-install. Im unlocked and rooted FWIW. I also use it with GPS off, mostly on wifi, but on 4g too.
I have at bat and an mlbtv subscription. Video plays flawlessly on my Moto x.
Thanks for the fast replies! OK, so it's not an issue with this particular model. I dno't think the problem isn't a blackout thing, NONE of the live games will stream, I just get that stupid error and it closes the stream. Wifi or 4G doesn't matter, and GPS is on.
Now, I just tried to stream an archived game from last night, and that DID work. So it's something with live games. Hmmm.

Which tier of mlbtv do you have? I have the premium more expensive one that specifically says live games stream to mobile.
Premium Yearly, the one that's $129.99/yr. I don't think it goes higher than that.

Well. I turned off the GPS and now everything works. I don't know what to think about that but I'll take it. Sheesh, I feel dumb.

Ah, that actually explains a lot. It does a location check to see if a game is blacked out in your area. If gps has no location it will just hang. Network location works just as well. Glad you worked it out and go yankees!
It actually uses your ip to check if your in a blackout area, it shouldn't have anything to do with GPS.

According to App Settings, MLB At Bat has permissions for android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION (approximate location (network-based)) and android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION (precise location (GPS and network-based)); so it uses it for something. Probably when it can't resolve an IP to a location reliably.
Hi I am coming form a heavily used Note 2. As a business owner the Note 2 was my most important piece of equipment!!! Plus being always on the go it's flash video capabilities made being away from home easy. I never missed a basketball game or big fight. Watched them right on my phone. I remember being at a restaurant one Saturday night away from home and having the whole bar area crowd around my phone to watch a big fight. Pretty cool and useful. Unfortunately my Note 2 bit the dust and cant be fixed for reasonable money. Sprint store talked me into a Note 5 for my upgrade and contract renewal with a cheaper plan.
I was wondering if there are any ways to get similar apps or mods on my Note 5 Without rooting it. I am very dissapointed and feel like taking it back. Not impressed at all. Especially since I am out of pocket $200 and had to sign a 2 year plan. Maybe somebody can help or suggest some things. Or at least this can be a WARNING to potential buyers of the phones REAL LIFE CAPABILITIES AND LIMITS. Not some generic commercial hype or store sales pitch of since its a #5 it is better and does more things than the earlier numbered phones.
1. No live sports or new movie streams though web browsers
Lack of flash support ... I used flash websites to stream live sports or newer movies on my Note 2. I have downloaded the proper Adobe Flash version on the Note 5. I have also downloaded and enabled browsers like Firefox, Flash Fox, and Dolphin.
I have verified that flash is working. However, the sites for the live sports and movies DO NOT work. These sites all worked fine with the Note 2 stock browser.... Any other flash browser suggestions???? Anyway to download or install the Note 2 stock browser on Note 5?????
2. Mirroring. Watching EXACTLY what you see on your phone to a big TV.
All share Samsung data caster. I bought an expensive Samsung data caster that worked well to mirror my phone on to my living room TV.....Anyway to use this with my Note 5????? I don't see the option to on the phone.
Will a MHL cord to hdmi still mirror for a note 5??????
3. Using your internet and making a phone call at the same time.
Since I travel I use my phone as a modem for my laptop and computers....Tether... On my Note 2 with the PDA.net app it worked great. Was faster than any home internet I ever had. I could be on the phone and be browsing the web on my computer at the same time. It worked so well I cancelled my home ISP. It also came in handy even to just look things up on the phones internet while you were talking to clients.... I was VERY UPSET to find out that I can not do any of this on the Note 5. This is a major deal. I don't get this one at all. Any way to fix???????
4. Sound for music is not anything better.
5. Notifications and display are far less attention grabbing than on the Note 2. Easily miss texts or overlook them. The notification L.E.D.S are super WEAK.
6. My battery drains way faster! It does charge faster though. But I don't think this will be a good device to have where charging is not an option for a while.
7. You cant delete photos from the gallery... You have to open up the camera app to delete them... This seems so strange and pointless. Am I missing something here??????
Would appreciate any help or feedback on these issues. Thanks...
1. Not sure
2. Chromecast/Fire Stick, both work as I have personally tested this and both are available for under 50 dollars. (The screen mirroring option is in the quick toggles on your Note 5, mirrors everything on the screen not just compatible apps.)
3.Have not tested this
4. I think you need better headphones if you think it does not sound better.
5. Have not noticed this either
6. Disable unneeded apps, I am getting great battery life from mine.
7.QuickPic

Thanks for the info and response!!!!
2. I tried the the "quick connect" feature in the toggle down menu. IT WORKED with my DATA CASTER. I just don't like how it cuts the WI FI on too. i can live with that though. I now have mirroring without having to buy something else. Thanks!!!!
3. Yeah I have tested and confirmed with Sprint. Supposedly its a big deal and a lot of people are sending their phones back because of this. Literally just had a real life scenario where i needed to be on the phone and browse the web but couldn't..
4. I have $60 earbuds from Sienheiser. Maybe your ears work better or you have better head phones. I'm not willing to pay any more than $60 or buy another pair. They are less than a year old. But the sound is great. Just hard for my ears to pick up the difference. Both Note 2 and note 5 sound excellent though.
5. I also noticed that if you stay on a text message conversation screen and leave the screen on. . . . It will not ring or notify you if an additional text from that sender comes through. I don't like that at all. I want it to ring and vibrate for every text no matter what!
6. Can you clarify what you mean by disable????? Like delete???? Which ones did you get rid of????
7. I will look into QuickPic.....I'm guessing its an app in the play store?
Was your note 2 on lollipop? I have a feeling son of the things like notifications might be a lollipop thing not a note 5 thing
Go to your setting and adjust everything till it feels like your ideal phone.
If you're near wifi you can talk and be online at the same time l

Are you able to go full screen?
What link is working for you?
What is Dolphin jetpack?
Thanks for the help!
Just an extension of dolphin browser in the marketplace. Give it a go

1) You had an Android device from 2012. The internet and Google have since moved on to HTML5. Flash is dead. Very few OSs support flash anymore. This isn't a phone issue. The unfortunate issue is your websites still utilize flash which is dangerous and a battery hog. A lot of security flaws and too much memory usage.
2)DL AllCast from the Google Play store, it hacks into any casting device. I have an AppleTV (back when I used to be pro Apple) and I use it constantly. All your casting needs whether it's a movie, phone screen, music, gallery etc all at your fingertips.
3)This is a Sprint issue not a phone issue. Sprint uses CMDA technology which requires dual cellular radios in order to surf and talk. Every other carrier supports simultaneous voice and data. I have Verizon (also CDMA, but I have dual radios in my phone) and can do it with my phone. When the phones hit a particular carrier, they decide to upgrade the radios to do surf/talk. If they decide not to which Sprint did not. You can't. Some claim this is a way to keep they're network bandwidth higher. Its 2015, regardless the phone should be able to do it.
4) The Note 5 came with a lot of new audio support modes. One feature I would recommend is using adaptic. It recognizes your ears ability to sense particular frequencies and changes the sound to your ears which makes a lot of difference.
5) You change change your notification settings in the individual apps your speaking off. The LED notification can be adjusted to your liking within settings. If this doesn't work. You can always DL an app that uses your phones flash to flash when your getting a notification (I know, I know.... Like an iPhone but it works great).
6). Lollipop has not been kind to device batteries. A lot of unnecessary system processes and apps. There are other posts within the Note 5 category that will guide you on debloating and disabling those packages and apps to gain better performance. Again not a phone issue but a software issue. Android M (which these phones will be first in-line to get) will change a lot of the problems they created in Lollipop. The Note 5 is not the only phone that suffers from this problem. A lot of them do.
7) Yes you can, but its hidden behind a sub menu. Long press on the photo you want to delete and it will pop open the delete function in the top menu bar (see image attached)
Hope this all helps. I suggest dumping Sprint and coming to Verizon. While it's not cheaper. It certainly is much better. Speeds, tethering, and service pretty much everywhere.

1. Is 3 years really that long.... When you spend that much money for something i would expect to have that option. You don't have to use a or go on a flash site if you don't want to....Flash is alive and well. Like I had mentioned earlier, people who stream Live sports and recent movie releases are all still Flash sites. I do not know of one html5 site that live streams sports.... Would love to find one if its out there though
2. I got the stock app to work with my Samsung All share Data caster. It is really choppy though. Thanks I will give that one a try and see if its any better
3. Wow that makes me even angrier with Sprint. i have tried to go to Verizon and t-mobile. They both have said stick with Sprint. My bills would be over twice as much with them because they don't do true unlimited Data like sprint does. Even when they do offer it, they bottleneck and slow your speed down once you reach a certain amount of data... My data usage makes Sprint my only choice and the fastest for me.
4. Will try thanks!!!!!
5. Note 5 has that from factory. I have it turned on. but in the day light the white flash is not to visible. Also, not visible when the phone is screen up. I have played with the settings. The notification LED just isn't that bright, big, flashes frequent enough to work as well as the older one. The Flash notification though is super helpful at night or in the dark.
6. If I keep the phone I will look into that. However, I find all the battery life claims with factory settings....auto screen brightness, keeping all apps closed, with just normal daily use to be terrible. I find it hard to believe that getting rid of the bloat-ware will take it form terrible to acceptable, but i'll take your word for it ... I hope so.

Flash is dead:
http://www.businessinsider.com/google-chrome-wont-autoplay-flash-ads-2015-8
In device terms with technology coming out. Yes 3 years is old enough.
With phone service you get what you pay for. I've never had a dropped call, network failure, or internet outtage. And from previous experiences living in the sticks of Kentucky. I still got 4G Verizon. Now I'm in Florida and never lower then 3 bars of coverage. I pay $234 a month for two phones and a tablet. I pay for 10gb and I get additional 5gb of data added to my plan per month for free as I am a loyal Verizon Customer. So it works out great.
Idk why it didn't post so my apologies.
Here are photos of the deleting procedure and my battery life on my phone after stream lining it. I average 18-22 hrs on a single charge. Depending on usage.

Still cant get flash, dolphin, and front row to work....
Some more updates
- Still cant get flash for front row to work with Dolphin.
More updates:
-LED notifications are super weak and almost not visible on bright sunny days
- Have missed several text because if I leave a text conversation open if a text from that sender comes through It wont notify you.
-Also all free messaging apps wont work while you are on the phone. Like KIK and others. You can not receive any of those messages until you get off the phone . Makes me wonder if Email is like this too???? How counter productive and backwards...
They literally have taken out more features and all multi tasking... So what do I care if the hardware is better????? IT DOES WAY LESS!!!!!

Yeah that part is true and no mapping and no nothing about data when your on a call. But you can hear a cricket fart at 200 paces! But again that is a sprint thing. Sprint blames it onSamsung but Samsung builds to sprints specs.
Looking for opinions and suggestions for enabling texts and SMS messages to display on the MTCB unit while driving. What, if anything are you guys using?
I searched around already, and found one thread where someone was using tasker and other functions to get messages displayed on the unit from their phone, but that solution didn't appear to be very reliable.
Is there an app that everyone is using? Or am I just late to the party? lol
I realize quite a few of you are using 3G connections with your MTCB, so this conversation is more geared towards those utilizing their Bluetooth only phone connection.

Even using a 3G/4G dongle cannot solve the SMS reception problem because these SMS are normally sent to the phone number, not to the 3G/4G SIM number. At most the dongle can be used to send SMS.
ATM no easy solution to this problem (and for social networks use too).
Have you looked at Tablet Talk? I'm not sure it would work over BT since the BT in these devices is locked down, but I believe there is also the option of using Wifi.
The other thread was mine and I was looking for the same thing
As mentioned above, I don't think it's actually possible with these units since it seems the Bluetooth is locked down. Can't remember the specific details but I'm sure it's to do with the Bluetooth service that handles the messages.
I could be wrong though but I know its not possible with tasker anyway and I don't think tablet talk works with Bluetooth cause I looked into that too. At the moment the way I do it is through data which as you say isn't quite as reliable
If you find anything though let me know

I could be wrong though but I know its not possible with tasker anyway and I don't think tablet talk works with Bluetooth cause I looked into that too. At the moment the way I do it is through data which as you say isn't quite as reliable
If you find anything though let me know

That's why I started this thread, to see if anyone had made any breakthroughs since your initial post. I went ahead and wasted the money on Tablet Talk, and I can confirm that the Bluetooth connection is the issue (Error Code:1) with our units. This seems like such a basic feature that Android would be capable of... my wife's Jeep does it automatically in Uconnect.
One thing I was considering trying with TabletTalk is to go into the factory settings, with the 126 password, and toggle around the Bluetooth type the unit is currently using. I know saving anything in this menu will effectively reset my unit, unless I save settings in Xposed, so I need a block of time to try it that I don't have right now. If it would even make a difference.

That's a good idea actually! If I get some free time I'll have a go
