[Q] Please help me. - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I flashed a battery mod with Gordon on my s4 active and it caused the phone to mess up a lot. It now constantly says "error, System UI has stopped." Every 12 seconds or so and I have to wait for it to come up to do each action i.e. home button or typing a letter of anything. I have no notification bar at all, can't swipe it down or anything. I reset to factory and I'm at a loss. I have all busybox applets I have root etc what do I do?
Thanks for the help if you can
In case you don't know Gordon allows s4 actives to flash zip files..

I had a similar problem flashing call recording mod using flash Gordon only way I could fix was to flash mf1 download via odin. This is if your have att s4 active not sure about i9295

No, you should use towelroot.com

Hi i've spent the last 3 days trying to root my phone. can not get it done. i've downloaded the towelroot old and new version but the old version doesn't recognize my phone as an s4 active and the new version just restarts the phone. my main reason for root is to recover deleted photos. any help would be appreciated. thank you

Have you looked into the modstrings at all? I'm not entirely sure how they work, but many other people have reported towelroot rooting their phones with the default settings.
What firmware are you on?

if im not mistaken it's 4.2.2 ( sorry bit of a noob still )
The baseband ends in MF7 - all the vids on youtube are different baseband so that makes it hard again to root. i had a quick look at the modstrings i'll give it a go now. i really don't wanna brick the phone. when i go to do software update it says device has been modified. :S

Thank you so much that method worked a charm. it was a bit confusing at the start and worrying for having to try so many different combinations but lucky for me the second combination i tried worked 1337 0 1 0 5 0 just incase anyone else might have the s4active that doesn't want to root on stock numbers maybe that'll work.

Hey there! I encountered errors after doing your tutorial, but I was able to fix some errors such as a non-loading YouTube app and SnapChat giving an "internal" error. But I am not able to fix the "No Connection" problem on Google Play after. Is there anyway to fix this?
EDIT: I got it fixed following a tutorial from androidcentral! I am filled with glee right now!
Here is the tutorial.
Unfortunately, No connection - retry in Play Store can mean lots of things.
Another solution that you might like to try involves the creation of a new Google account (this worked for me because I did not want to perform a Factory Reset): -
Close Play Store if it is open.
Click on the following options in turn:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> All -> Google Play Store -> Clear Data -> OK
Settings -> Accounts and sync -> Add account -> Google -> Next -> Create
Follow the prompts to set up a new Google account.
Start Play Store. Once you have accepted the licence agreement, Play Store should now connect to the Internet and start working again.
Press the Menu button then select Accounts and pick your old Google account from the list (this will restore your installed applications and purchases).
Unfortunately, your Android applications will now be associated with the new Google Account.
You can manually open any applications (GMail, GTalk/Hangouts, etc.) associated with the new Google Account and configure them to use the old one.

hi, sorry for slow reply, i'm very busy this time. Which rom version are u using? this root method can root version 14.4.B.0.37, not latest version. So if you want to root, flash back to 14.4.B.0.37. I think this cannot root latest version because new version have new kernel version

How to Disable OTA on Rooted Note 4 with TWRP?

Hi...
So I rooted my Note 4 and installed custom recovery TWRP. Before I did, I postponed an update (OTA) for the phone to 1 AM PST.
After rooting...the Notifications still show
"T-mobile Update Service" with that rectangular icon... and underneath says "Update Postponed"
Now...I thought installing TWRP should BLOCK OTA automatically...is something going ot go horribly wrong at 1 AM PST and will it try to install Lollipop on my Note 4 anyways?
Please help!!

From that thread
I am on the NJ7 and can confirm any update check comes back with the "custom software, no updates for you" message.
Does it apply to ANK4? Unlike that poster - update check works for me...and it works a little too good and provides what is in each log.
Maybe it's because you rooted in a funny way?
Are you saying that rooting via the SuperSU UPDATE .zip and recovery is "funny?" I don't understand what's so funny about it. It's another method that isn't revolved around some auto-flash option.
It's still why you're getting ota's
---------- Post added at 02:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:17 AM ----------
How'd you do it anyway? Abd?
What does CFAuto Root do differently that "blocks" OTAs? Just wondering what logical reasoning this is based on
I flashed TWRP with Odin - then I used UPDATE SUPERSU v2.6 .zip and installed via recovery. That was it. Launched SuperSU and it worked.
It looks more like you rooted the phone.
Custom binary, etc.
Are you sure you're rooted?
You can use rooted apps, etc.?
Did you trip Knox?
---------- Post added at 02:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 AM ----------
Ota's won't go to rooted phones.
Yes. I am rooted. Is the method I did archaic or something? lol. I have SuperSU. I granted several apps root access - I have TWRP installed -and I used RootChecker and granted it access and it confirmed I have root as well.
Tripped knox...more than likely..not sure how to check
I rooted AFTER I got update notifications of TWO updates...perhaps a fluke?
Thank you for all your help )
It's fun talking with somebody with phone skills.
Just never saw anybody skip the cf-autoroot step.
Me.
I don't get the update notifications cause I'm lost in rom land.
You could probably kill the update process with titanium.
I'm just glad I'm finally getting some answers. I've been rooting across very different types of phones for a while, but each new release has its own weird...little grouped up programs and auto stuff. I tend to avoid all auto-solutions and opt for manual as possible.
what do you think about my deal with OTA? I didn't actually check for updates...its the same updates before root that are being notified to me
This search may help
http://www.google.com/search?site=&......1c..64.mobile-gws-hp..0.1.54.3.ehLqx9i8kTc
I've never run stock rooted for more than a day.
But, I know people stop the update nagging thing.
I uninstalled fotaclient.apk (one of the update's names) - along with the other update (incsyncmdl or something) and lastly FWUpgrade.apk.
I backed up Incsync and FWUpgrade..but not fotaclient. Say for purposes - i actually want to update or restore that...how would I find FOTAClient.apk again?
I guess it's no biggy..just breaks the in-phone updater...but still allows me to flash like normal unrooted stock roms in the future via Odin anyways
How are you uninstalling?
With titanium you can just freeze and then unthaw later.
But, you can always pull the apks out of one of the stockish roms in the Android development section.
I don't see the .apks in the Stock ANK4 rom. just recovery.img, boot.img and some unopenable .bin files...
bump.

s6 active root?

This will be a thread only for people willing to test a root method for the s6 active
I will volunteer.
I am on marshmellow test PE9 and can Odin back to 5.1.1 if needed.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't suggest you attempt an ODIN from Marshmallow to Lollipop
I attempted to ODIN from Marshmallow to Lollipop due to Battery Drain and poor cell signal after updating. It soft bricked my phone and could not get smart switch to restore or even the Best Buy Samsung Tech to reflash marshmallow. I had to send it to Samsung Service Center as a last ditch effort to unbrick.
Basically I tried to flash 5.1.1 it failed ODIN Flash. Then I thought well I the Engineering Build 0K2 Combination filed worked when I flashed it using 5.1.1, so I thought maybe I can flash it back to this version then reflash to 5.1.1. It didn't work for me and ended up soft bricking the device. Who knows maybe it will let you flash 5.1.1 from Marshmallow.

Cool so what you'll have to do first, it's visit samsungfirmware.com, and download the 5.1.1 rom. Once you do that, visit this site, and download necessary files. Report back when you have finished, I will then tell you what to do next.
Please understand any bricked or damaged devices, will not be my fault, for it is you who wants to test it.
Flash back to android 5.1.1 using Odin, and then flash the G890AUCU3AOK2.tar file, and once done go into recovery on your phone, and on your phone hit fix root.

How would the system have any memory of the previous OS, does Odin wipe all data before flashing? If it does how would there be any problems?

Well once you flash with Odin, it updates the system partitions. So you have to factory reset after the update.
I was in download mode where you flash Odin files.
---------- Post added at 11:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:03 PM ----------
Let me provide some background. I bought the phone with 5.1.1
AT&T system update automatically pushed marshmallow update. I wanted to roll back due to some noticeable issues with marshmallow. So I attempted to Odin 5.1.1 it failed in Odin with no issues. Then I tired a couple different lollipop files they failed. I then tried the ok2 combination fa50 file and it failed but this time the phone booted to update failed blue screen and would not turn off. I could go to the download mode where you flash Odin files, but it would fail on everything. If there was an Odin flashable marshmallow I'm sure it would work. The phone would not shutoff. It stay on until the battery drained completely. I visited samsung tech at best buy who could not charge it to push the marshmallow update with his smart software. It gave him and x so he told me to send it to samsung they can do more. I forgot to mention smart switch did not work for me despite having two different serial numbers from owning multiple s6 actives. I didn't decide to install the app package disable on my other phone to prevent the marshmallow update. It might have trouble because I use straight talk AT&T and the updates have to do with voLTE which don't work with prepaid I believe.

Do you still have the phone? if so I can help you with the problem.
Continuing my previous instructions, after you fix root, and phone restarts, you should see factory binary. It will take quite a while to fully boot. When done, you should have full root permissions. This is where the experimental part comes to play. You won't have any Google or samsung apps, so head over to samsungfirmware.com, and get the 5.0.2 rom. Extract the file, and then rename the tar.md5 file, by removing the.md5 part. Then extract that using 7 zip. Now find the bootloader file, and replace the 5.1.1 bootloader file with this, in the hopes of unlocking the bootbootloader. Post back whether or not this works, then we can mover on top the next steps.

I have tried this method on android 5.1.1, and can confirm that it is a working partial method of root. However I am now running marshmallow, and unfortunately I have no valid screen shots, but if you need proof, watch this YouTube video.

This is an old thread
That being said, root is being worked on by a handful of people. Since this device is strictly AT&T however (and I'm sure a lot of other reasons too), root for 5.1.1 is still VERY experimental and breaks most of the device functionality from what I've heard. 6.0.1 is going to be an even harder challenge. Root may be possible some time in the future but I wouldn't count on it being easy.

Newbie having trouble rooting my phone, Android 4.4.2

Hey everyone. I just got a Note 3 n900a after having been with Windows phone for about two years now, and I'm having some real trouble rooting it. I realize it's an older phone, so it seems most development has kind of slowed for the phone. But I'm hoping someone might have some advice here to help me get this thing rooted, so I can install a custom ROM on here. The stock one is bugging the hell out of me.
So here's what I've done. I tried rooting it with an Odin tool and Root de la Vega. When trying to actually run the tool, it detects the phone in download mode and everything, starts, then fails. Doesn't want to go any further. I can't remember the specific error it gave. So I tried the Towelroot method, which is supposedly the best way to do it. Towelroot runs and says it's successful. Root checker says otherwise. I even went ahead and factory reset the phone, kept absolutely everything at default, tried again, and it doesn't work.
I'm stumped. My model number is SAMSUNG-SM-N900A, my android version is 4.4.2, baseband is N900AUCUCNC2, build number is N900A-AAR-CONVERSA-SHOY.2015.08.24.1105, and security version is MDF v1.0 Release 2. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!
This might help with rooted LP on the n900a: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006
There is not much development for the n900a because the bootloader is locked which means the phone can't run TWRP or custom ROMs unless the ROM can be installed via safestrap and is based on a stock Samsung ROM.

The de la Vega root method doesn't work anymore. If you are on NC2 you can use towelroot.

Oops, I misread your post. I don't know why towelroot isn't working it worked just fine for me.

I would recommend factory resetting your phone and then reflashing stock NC2 and try rooting with towelroot again. Don't mess with any settings after you flash. Go straight to towelroot

Also run an hash check on your downloaded firmware if possible to ensure it isn't corrupted. And make sure you are using a REAL Samsung cable to flash. People think it's B.S. but it isnt. I have HARD BRICKED PHONES using cheap gas station cords.
The firmware I used to root was N900AUCUCNC2_N900AATTCNC2_N900AUCUCNC2_HOME.tar.md5. It is 2,275,231 KB in size. Make sure yours matches
