Square reader does not work with the X - Moto X Q&A

I was going to ask but I just tried so I thought I'd share. I saw some other threads about the Maxx and Ultra and it seems the X has the same issue: Square reader doesn't work.
"Note: At this time, devices that have a microphone input but no microphone output (Square Card Reader, Jawbone UP) are not currently supported."
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...er_detail/a_id/95459/p/30,6720,8882/kw/square

I noticed this as well when I tried my square a few days ago.

I use PayPal Here at work, and it is also not functional on the X.

My Jawbone UP band isn't working as well, guess that's the reason.

Has this been fixed on 442?
I guess I could use my unactivated iPhone on WiFi to use Square?

Anyone get bluetooth voice dialling in froyo?

I've tried and tried with my parrot car kit, but nothing seems to active the phone (either the button, or the keywords), has anyone had any luck?

Typical, I really wanted this. I still get the same pairing problems (paired but not connected). Then after repeating the same process up to about 10 times is pairs and connects. From then on it's fine for receiving calls. But initiating them just isn't working for me.
So on the kits that work, how does it work, does it use the voice search (ie the one requiring a data connection) or the old style voice dialler?
Does it give you any confirmation before calling, just in case it's picked up the wrong person?
Works okay for me with a no-name bluetooth headset. I press the "attention/answer" button on the headset, the screen pops over to the voice dialing screen with some instructions, and the headset says "Speak now." I say, "Call John Smith". The headset says "Calling John Smith" and the dialer pops up and dials. It does not ask for confirmation, unfortunately (Voice Commander under Windows Mobile says, "Calling John Smith?" and you have to respond "Yes" or "No"); I guess they assume you can hit the "end" button and try again if it got it wrong. (I haven't used it much, but it's two-for-two getting the callee right on the test calls I've made.) I didn't check whether it needed a data connection or not; sorry.

For my car kit it does ask for confirmation. I guess it depends, which car kit do you have that your having contectivity problems? Foryo is much improved for me in that regard.

I've got a Parrot CK3000 EVO. Worked fine in windows mobile, but in eclair and froyo I do get it to pair and connect after lots of attempts, just can't get the voice dialling working.
I've ordered an updating kit for the bluetooth set in the hopes that a newer firmware for it may help. I'll update this once I've got it.

I also have a parrot evo 3k and I'm interested to hear what you find out.
Is there a consolidated thread with compatibility or test results anywhere?
I have CM 6.0 RC1 running on my G1
My Plantronics 340 seemed to work great for voice dialing, but my car kit and other BT pieces don't.
I did get think outside BT keyboard and BT mouse working
I am running CM 6 RC1 on a Dream, with a Motorola H700 headset.
I got them to pair up without any problem, and it seems to be working without a data plan or wifi connection.
However, I noticed a couple of issues:
1) The "speak now" prompt is extremely quiet, even with volume levels maxed out on both the phone and the headset
2) It only works if the screen is "awake", meaning I still need to hit MENU on the phone in order for my command to be acknowleged (not very hands-free, is it? hopefully this is a bug in Froyo that will be soon repaired!). This is a bad thing for me, 'cuz here in Quebec, you can get a ticket for inappropriate touching of a cellphone while driving.
3) If it thinks it has the right phone number, it says "calling {whoever}", and then proceeds to dial without further warning, which is dangerous since when it speaks the "calling" notification, that too is very low volume
Is this just my configuration? Perhaps a limitation of the Dream hardware? Perhaps (this is me dreaming in technicolor) a simple software setting that needs changing?

Cheap GPS

I purchased the following unit from Amazon for $17:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E336YK
I had few expectations given the price, but have been quite surprised. The thing paired with my Nook immediately right out of the box. The 'Bluetooth GPS' app (free from the Market) recognized and connected to the device on the first try. It did take about 10 minutes to get a GPS lock the first time I turned it on, but now takes less than two minutes each time I fire it up. Works great with Google Maps (tested with cached map tiles while driving) and Locus Pro (purchased from the Market). There is also no real range problem with the Bluetooth connection - I stuck the receiver on my windshield visor and had the Nook sitting in the passenger seat and maintained the Bluetooth connection.
I have only had it for two days, but am amazed at how well it has worked so far.
Just wanted to throw this out in case anyone is interested in uber-cheap GPS. Amazon seems to be out of these units, but you can find them for a comperable price elsewhere.
Cheers.
Any way to put the Nook Color on the windshield? I am interested in using it as a GPS also.
Seems your post has knocked them out of stock most everywhere, and others are raising their prices. I'd rather just get a Holux for a few dollars more with what they are trying to charge for these things now. I'm still going to just wait until I figure out how to make my WM6.1 phone, or my E71 symbian phone send out a bluetooth GPS signal that my Nook can find.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M8ST36/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img
and
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00161YS8M
The combo works great. I bought some velcro patches that you can stick on things, and so i have the GPS mounted to the back of the holder, with the Nook obviously fitting in the front. This keeps the GPS inches away from the nook (while maintaining a clear sky view), preventing any BT range issues. I use it with CoPilot live, and it works perfectly (oh, and the Bluetooth GPS app from the market).
I will try to get a photo tonight for ya'll...

Goodness your right...price jacked up everywhere. Can't find one for less than about $30 shipped anymore. Bummer. I also tested this with Copilot and it works great. I am most impressed with the Bluetooth range...I can put the receiver just about anywhere and still keep the connection to the nook.
Regarding your WM phone...I have an old WM 6.5 Standard (i.e. non-touchscreen) phone and spent a long time trying to get this to work. I could not find any way to make it fly, but there are some free programs out there for older touchscreen WM phones that will allow GPS data output over BT or Wifi. Getting the nook to connect will be the tricky part. Just look around and you will find what you need to give it a go.

I've been giving it a go, believe me! But your post may have given me a clue... If you couldn't make it work either, I think I may know what the problem is. With my particular phone, I'm only able to output the signal over bluetooth through COM1: Everything else is used up. With the E71 symbian phone, I don't know which COM port is being used. I suspect that the bluetooth GPS software I've been trying on the Nook is only looking at a particular COM: port. If I could figure out how to make it look at some others, I suspect it would start receiving data on one of them.

i would give you one million billion pretend dollars if you would explain how you did that. one million billion.
If you have android phone, you can use it as a free Bluetooth GPS
On the phone:
- ShareGPS (for Android 2.2) or
- BlueNMEA (for CM7)
both are free in the Market
On the Nook:
- Bluetooth GPS (free)
Otherwise, you can use TetherGPS over wifi, costed $3 though.

I don't want an android phone until I can buy one of good quality from overseas that ATT can't recognize. There are plenty of cheap android phones out there in china, but they are all terrible quality. Right now my motorola WM6.1 has better voice quality than 99% of phones and that is most important to me.

Nope. With a BT GPS, all you need is one of mnay free BT GPS apps, and you are good to go. In the Development settings, you do have to turn on "mock locations", but that is a one time deal and 5 seconds. One you fire up the app to connect to the receiver, the system receives location information as if the BT was built in.
Just tried it. Here's what I have:
Nook Color with Phiremod 5.3
- installed Bluetooth GPSProvider
Motorola Dext (Cliq), with adxlmod (I think) - Android 2.1
- installed ShareGPS
Everything paired and I got the Nook to display my location correctly. I'm still at work, so not driving anywhere, but will give it a shot later.
I don't have data on my phone, so I might have to get copilot live to actually be useful.
I wouldn't jump on CoPilot Live just yet. I downloaded it yesterday after hearing about several people running it on their Nooks. Apparently the new version has introduced a problem with tablets without an IMEI number. I emailed tech support and they said that they hope to have a fix by early next week. I'd wait until then to download the app. As soon as I receive the update and can confirm that it's working, I will post it, but right now it won't work unless you still have an older version.
Use GPS2Blue or Flash Android!

I successfully used GPS2Blue on my AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser) years ago and connected it to a Nokia 770 and a Motion LE1600 Win tablet. I seem to recall that I had to try different COM ports in Tilt/GPS2Blue until it would work. Unfortunately, I now have Android flashed on the Tilt or I would try it for you.
I flashed Android to the SIM-less Tilt just so that I could use it as a remote GPS with my NC!
Good luck!

Cool thanks for the heads up. I'm in no rush anyway.

Please help verify this problem on your phone

This is such a simple problem..
I tried explaining this to HTC tech support but they only have AT&T phones to look at and hold when customers call in.
The AT&T HTC One (M7) phone uses a custom setup for its car dock mode.
I am asking anyone who does NOT have the AT&T version to do a simple car dock mode test.
Here is the problem:
In Car Dock mode (whether you launch it via the app drawer or you plug it in to the official dock which launches it for you) in the bottom right corner is the SPEAK icon.
Launching SPEAK will enable you to call someone or search for music by voice (simple) it also has confirmation though unlike Google Voice Dialer or Google Voice Search.
(there is no icon in the App Drawer) it is only accessible in CAR Mode.
The problem is when you launch it, by design it searches through your contacts and music for just a few seconds to check if you have new contacts or music since the last time you launched it and becomes aware of them. So when opening SPEAK it says on the screen:
"PLEASE WAIT A FEW SECONDS WHILE UPDATING CONTACTS AND MUSIC".. (not the exact wording but close enough)
(it also says audibly via the speakers "PLEASE WAIT" (again, not the exact wording but close enough)
Then when its done searching (about 1 - 3 seconds) it makes a tone and starts listening for your commands.
This works perfect and its a great feature when driving.
NOW HERE IS THE PROBLEM I NEED TESTED:
When a bluetooth device is connected it will hang on the screen where it says:
"PLEASE WAIT A FEW SECONDS WHILE UPDATING CONTACTS AND MUSIC".. (not the exact wording but close enough)
At this point you should hear "PLEASE WAIT" (again, not the exact wording but close enough) but that NEVER happens, it just hangs there until you disconnect the bluetooth device and then reconnect it. Upon the bluetooth device reconnecting it finishes searching and works without any problems.
NOW PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY..
It works with a bluetooth car stereo, headset, etc just fine if you launch the SPEAK app from the Car Dock icon. All is spoken through the bluetooth device and all is perfect like you would expect.
Its ONLY when launching it via your bluetooth button that it hangs.
So the audio stream is working either way, but its the initialization from the bluetooth device that causes the hang..
THIS IS SO SIMPLE TO TEST FOR ANYONE WITH A BLUETOOTH CAR STEREO, HEADSET, ETC. EXCEPT FOR HTC BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAVE THE STUPID AT&T VERSION AT HTC TECH SUPPORT (argh!)
I managed to get it to work back to back successfully only once but I can not get it to do it again.
IF I can get a few people to verify this flaw we can get a fix started via HTC.
I tried to report the problem to them but they can not see what I am talking about so directing them to this forum after others verify it might just make the difference.
Any and all help is very appreciated, thanks...

Yes, it clearly states above that I have tried it with 2 earpieces and a bluetooth Stereo for a total of 3 devices.
This is why I need some other results from other HTC One owners with a bluetooth.

Well, I did it. And it seems you are right!
When I try to launch the Speaker app (in Car mode, obviously) it hangs at "Just one moment, preparing your contacts and music now".
I don't even get to hear the "Please wait a moment".
If the app is launched from the phone itself it works as designed. So, bug confirmed.
Unfortunately, I could only test that with one old BT car stereo, as I couldn't connect the One to the earpiece I have.

Thank you for taking the time to test this.
I did not get a lot of responses but you have confirmed for me that it will do no good to return this to T-Mobile just to get another one with the same design flaw.
I know the international versions of the HTC One (M7) are basically the same as the T-Mobile version minus the additional T-Mobile software.
The international version has been upgraded from 1.27 (that is T-Mobile) to 1.28 and now 1.29.
They have claimed in version 1.29 better bluetooth device recognition. (whatever that means)
So if I can just get the version number you have, I can confirm if this is still a flaw or one that could go away with an upgrade
(whenever T-Mobile releases them)
I am hoping you are not on anything other than 1.27 and if yours is indeed a non-Carrier specific version (international) that a simple upgrade will resolve this..

Mine is indeed the International version, but unfortunately with 1.29.401.12 firmware.
I would like to do more tests though. Maybe it's something we forgot to do. If anyone else could test this hypothesis, please do so!
As for the "better BT recognition", I have to say that it does find BT enabled devices very fast (although I couldn't find my old BT earpiece...).
bt fault confirmed
Just tried this with same phone and exact conditions. Can confirm same results and hanging.

If I press the steering wheel button in my car to open a voice command, it hangs. If I press the 'Speak' button on-screen, it doesn't hang.

This is an Android problem I believe. Google now voice search doesn't work when I am connected to blutooth in my car on any phone I have ever used.
So I didn't expect HTC speak to work either.
Sorry gunnyman but you've got it wrong, I am currently able to use Google Voice search just fine and I've always used Google Voice with numerous Bluetooth headsets & car stereos however this HTC Speak problem is exactly that, its the app itself that needs to be updated to work properly through bluetooth.
As for your Google search bluetooth problem, not sure why you're having that issue but it definitely works just fine. On the HTC One I have my JVC car stereo forward track button set for a long press to start Google voice search and I use it all the time in the car.
I have had several Android phones with Google Voice Search and its always worked for me whether its a custom ROM or the stock phone all the way back to the original G1. We can always use voice search.. maybe not voice search over Bluetooth since that was not available until later versions of Android.. but once it was added it works great, not voice dialing ( that still sucks ) but the Google voice search/actions portion. G1, MyTouch 4g, Galaxy S, G2x, HTC DNA, HTC One etc..

Well I pulled the trigger and purchased. I did not get the external mic. Had to hack up my dash trim and some of the actual dash. This is a 2004 Ford Focus. The iso harness connected with no modification as I previously had a Blaupunkt radio. I am having audio popping on my end when placing a bluetooth call. Music sounds great on bluetooth and is very loud and sounds full range. Hoping for some help with bluetooth call audio issue.
I saw you got it rooted successfully. Anymore updates? Did you get your calls to work any better?

Good: Very fast, great sound, good wifi reception, good bluetooth reception, radio reception acceptable, volume nob works great.
Bad: Tight fit(had to cut dash and trim), bluetooth calls issue, google maps crash sometimes, google app crash sometimes, google voice search can't dial contacts, no option to voice dial contacts, second incoming call no notification or option to switch calls, some electical sound leakage in speakers when touching the screen(not bad I just noticed with my ear near speaker).
Overall: pretty good for the price.
that interface looks good
Its an MTCD. They're largely all the same, with variations in number of USB, SDCARD, amp chip, tuner module. The unit most fully kitted out is the GS MTCD board.
Notice HCT in the android version - they produce the PX5 SOM with the resellers specifying software options (launcher etc.)
Having owned a JY and compared it to a GS board I have - obtained as a spare part for hardware hacking - the GS is the one to go for.

Did the external mic help? I saw that amazon froze this volsmart product too which is making me uneasy since I am in the process of installing mine.

The mic did not help. Volsmart says they have sent me a new bluetooth module. I am still waiting for it. The old module will need to be de-soldered for removal. I am OK with this as I know electronics. They are not responding to support requests because of China blocking VPN access. If I don't get the new module before end of 30 days I will get refund.
When using Google Maps does the audio kind of stutter and cut in and out on yours? Mine does this but only in Google maps. Google now Assistant sounds fine

Press the reset button on front with a paper clip. It happens after playing youtube and I shut off the vehicle.

Hmm mine seems to do it all the time tried reset, updating maps, uninstalling and reinstalling maps, clearing maps cache, taking out sd card. But nothing has fixed it so far... But all my other audio seems fine.

Yep I updated it, tried downgrading to the stock version, and reinstalling it altogether.
