I am about to buy a used nexus s (going to sell my sensation after I get it). I hate sense and I really want some of that ics action (I know kmobs is working on it, but the nexus will have support from google + a TON of great devs, not just the 3 working on the sensation cm team).
The reason why I'm posting this is to give you guys a chance to convince me to stay with my sensation. The nexus s seems like the better phone to me, but if one of you guys can convince me otherwise, please do.
P.S. Not trying to hate on the devs over here, it just seems like all of them are so focused on sense, very few aosp roms.
Hello, gonintendo. Can you please provide 5 reasons of why we should convince you to stay. Thank you.
I had the nexus one and nexus s. I took development for granted. Now I'm selling my sensation and waiting for my galaxy nexus to arrive. Not liking what Verizon is doing to the galaxy nexus.

Because you (I assume) love your sensation and the community built around it here on xda? I have convinced myself that I want a nexus s, which doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best phone for me, confirmation bias is a *****. Perhaps there is something huge that I am overlooking that would make it worth my while to stick with my sensation.
Had it before this phone. Main reason I never picked it up again is the screen. Its terrible.
Kinda wish I'd kept it for development though. O well

Assuming you know the specs, but anyways...
Dual core
8mp camera with 1080p
larger screen with higher resolution
Option to run sense or not
ICS will come, and with that many more AOSP type ROMs
Plus tbh... I think this phone will run much better once it has ics support... It doesn't yet and the nexus s is smooth... But if you want simile specs minus quite as much dev support just get a vibrant probably for half price of the nexus...

Nexus s is a great phone. Awesome audio chip, camera rocks despite lower pixels. I loved it. I bought tgis phone for the bigger screen.
I had a Nexus S for a week, talk about a **** build, I hated it, plastic kills me. I couldn't use it. Too vanilla for my taste and THAT plastic.

Just get the nexus. You'll probably be happier.
If this phone isn't doing it for you, you should sell it and get what will satisfy your needs. Don't concern yourself with what others think.

I'm never happy with any phone, I have ocd lol. Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'm going to go for it.
Screw the Sensation, it has so many buggs it makes me sick. I regret buying it
What is this, a forum filled with angsty teenagers, threatening to switch their phones? Nobody cares if you switch, go ahead and do it if you're not happy with it! This isn't a religious group, it's a dev forum.
Seems like the new HTC models have pissed off people who simply must have the latest technology....

I had never used sense prior to buying the sensation. I had played with sense 2.x on a buddy's thunderbolt and I actually liked it quite a bit. I don't know what they were thinking when they put 3.0 together. Everything about it is slower, uglier and less usable than the previous version imo.
Seems like a massive downgrade to me. Maybe I am wrong... but... I doubt it

I don't know why are you guys asking for a non-sense ROM for a HTC device, if you hate sense that much you should go for the Samsung Galaxy S2 or the Skyrocket or the Galaxy Nexus or the crappy iPhone 4S or any other device of any other brand for that matters, they have almost the same tech specs of the Holiday/Raider/Vivid/Velocity and THEY DON'T HAVE SENSE!!!
I did my ROM because I love sense 3.5 and I love this device for having sense and I love HTC for everything they do with sense.
So this is a no go for me, being a dev for this device is because I DO WANT to have the smoothest sense on my phone.
Sorry and good luck with this.

Your question has been answered by the post above, the devices you mentioned may have the same specs, but ! I dont like samsung, or iPhone!
Every HTC device I have had has had pretty much a 50/50 split with pure AOSP/Sensless and sense, this is the only time I have seen a HTC device with ONLY Sense custom Roms!
Thanks anyway!
Being as this is a device thats not that popular, youll be waiting awhile for anything like that....sorry to say it but i personally cant stand plain jane android....got rid of samsung skyrocket, still have the lg nitro sitting in the box collecting dust....i like the sense on a phone...to each their own @preferences but youll be hard pressed to find a dev thats goingn to devote all the time to another type of build for this phone right now....

True that. I can only imagine what things would be like if we were unlocked from the start, this phone had a hell of a lot going for it. The whole bootloader thing dropped the value of this phone like a rock too, at least here on XDA. I don't even want to know what the value of my Vivid will be when I eventually switch to a new phone...

Dive bombing in for a MUMP!! although this thread didn't need it
I have an upgrade available the 31st and I was hoping the galaxy nexus would be out by then but possibly not.. my sister got the Nexus S and the only problem I've seen with it is after a year or so of having it the battery life has probably cut in half if not more. My mom got the epic 4g touch and I didn't really like it. But no problems really that ive noticed. But I never got to mess around with rooting it/the programming side of it. I'm honestly thinking of going to iPhone because its not as fragmented as android. With android there's so many different phones, OS's, roms, etc. Then again that's what I love about it.. gaaaah the choices!! Either way good luck with whatever you choose

I feel your guys' pain about the lack of options for HTC phones on Sprint. I ended up getting a HTC Amaze which is what the next EVO phone should have been but it never made it to Sprint. I was not impressed by gimmicky EVO 3D. The HTC Rezound is similar to the Amaze but again it's on Verizon.
Still kicking around the idea....I do like the 3vo, but the 3D is just too gimmicky for me...I think the Photon is out even though motorola is always a solid phone.
I would go for the Evo Design, but the processor lacks a dual core .....I really think I am leaning towards the SGSII...despite what people say about the plasticy feel, it is slim, it is light, the screen is huge and colorful--(and the blacks are black, not washed out), and from what I have seen for comparisons even though it has the "same" speed processor as the 3vo, it is just a touch faster. The price is just double what the others are....GRRR.
Now I have to pound it into my wifes head, because I think shes gonna get me a phone for my Bday....
I can overclock mine at 1.5ghz and it's just as fast if not faster than stock SGS2... just my 2 cents.

And we genuinely appreciate your pennies.
BUT, if the SGS2 is OC'd and it is faster to begin with, imagine what it can do at 1.5ghz... I think the only thing I am not really diggin about the SGS2 is resolution..even though it is crisp and clear, the icons are bigger...
Who knows we will see what happens hell they might be sold out when it is time...I heard they are doing phones for new lines for a penny right now....makes me wanna walk away from them just to come back and get a discount....lol
That's when the shooter has another plus. It's resolution is higher which is why the icons are smaller but it also means better picture quality obviously with any higher resolution. I watch Top Gear on the netflix app and its perfect. Any game I've played works perfect and looks great due to the resolution.
On the processing front, honestly there's no need to even OC unless you want to just show off. but none of us end users need that much power to run what apps we like. Id be more inclined to want a higher processor if you could build from source on it. But most of us want better battery life. Which in turn you have to sacrifice some performance.
I love the SGS2. However they I believe still nerd to use odin to flash stuff. Odins been known to brick quite a few devices if not done properly. This weighed in my decision also along with I'm familiar with HTC. From a developing standpoint I was drawn because I know it already.
The 3D may be gimmicky... But it sure is fun Im excited to take more pictures now because of it. I can't wait for summer and snap shots of parades and ball games etc... Sure the SGS2 has an 8mp compared to the shooters 2 - 5mp which our Heros have a 5mp camera, but because of the resolution they turn out great. Won't be able to take advantage of that 8mp camera unless you remove the pictures and view them properly on a computer...
Now with all that being said I still want to buy an SGS2 outright because I just do. I mean its a great phone. But all that I mentioned pushed me towards the shooter for an everyday developing phone which is what the Hero was for me.
That's my .25 cents this time
I hope this helped boggle your mind a little more. Not saying you have to lean towards anything. It's your choice and all the phones out there are great. It's a matter of preference. Just stay away from the I-crap. I give Apple one little credit for implementing Unix in a way to a phone platform. But that's all ill give them.

Go with what your budget can handle. Now that there is a possible fix for the 1. 5 hboot for the 3D, I'm encouraging my family to move towards it. Plus that phone has massive potential.
Me and my mother are switching to At&t soon, and I'm kinda stuck. I have an Epic on Sprint now and development is top notch. Miui,cm7,cm9, sense ports are being worked on, its just great. What my issue is, is I can't figure out what phone to get. I'm stuck mostly between the HTC Vivid and the OG SGSII. Development is huge for me, I'm a terrible flashaholic. I NEED good stuff to flash such as cm, miui, and stuff like that. Benchmarks don't matter to me.. but development does.. what do you guys think I should do? The SGSII is quite a lot faster and has INSANE amount of dev (**** ton of ROMs/MODs)
Personally I'd suggest the SGSII
(Also, wrong forum, should be in General rather then Dev)
Oh ****.. I didn't realized I did that. Now I look like a ghetto noob. FML. Sorry everyone!! But good to know man. Yeah the sgsii has so many roms and stuff.. like holy ish. I thought about the skyrocket but it has like 2 roms. Heck no

I believe you already answered your own question. No miui, no amoled screen, only a handful of roms at the moment. It sounds like you should go with the SGS II. I truly think the vivid > SGS II but everyone will have their opinions.
samsung screen wasnt impressive nor was the camera....had both vivid and skyrocket gave skyrocket away for a present...kept the lg nitro and got another vivid for development...but to each their own ...build quality the samsung just feels cheap and not made with quality....all plastic everything...i like a heavy phone....went from inspire to vivid...good luck in your choice.

Be care full which version of SGSII you get ,the LTE version or any version with snapdragon is not fast as the one with samsung processor.
But the LTE one for sure will have way better speeds for download , so pick what you use most,

I had the Vivid for 30 days, traded for the galaxy sII for almost 30 days, hated it.. cartoony colors, and no Sense.. which I missed. So now I'm back to the Vivid... I love it and never should have left. But that's my opinion... Just do what feels right
I'm gonna stick to my Vivid until the quad core phones come out this spring. GSII is old and played out now. I'm waiting on the GSIII to be announced hopefully next month than I'm all over it. I'll even buy the international version of GSIII when it comes out instead of waiting 6 months for AT&T to get it. Right now, if nobody is desperate for a new phone, just wait a month until we see whats new at Mobile World Congress being held next month.
I can't speak for the SGSII, but as far as the Vivid goes - it's an adventure to say the least. Definitely gotta vouch for the overall build quality and feel of HTC over the Sammies. Development on the Vivid is coming along, and the ongoing development on the Vivid is very active with updates and interaction happening constantly. I feel like the Vivid development community is getting very close to hitting a key moment, at which time the breakthroughs will explode. Kinda like that moment in watching a movie when you just 'feel' that a key fact is about to be unveiled and the plot all starts to make sense. Just my opinion fwiw; ymmv and others may disagree
It's more about, are you willing to wait for better ROM s and MODs. Personally, I'm an HTC fan all the way and the Vivid is yet another bad ass phone from them. Just because you can flash a ton of stuff to it..doesn't mean you will be happy with it. You basically answered your own question..you can modify the software, but you are stuck with the hardware.

I have an HTC Vivid, and I have a friend that has a SGSII, so I have used it alot, and I would have to say that I much prefer my Vivid. Its faster and I like the Sense UI way more than TouchWiz. I also prefer the screen on my Vivid to the SGSII. It just seems brighter and more...well...vivid lol. So, If I had to do it again, I would still get the Vivid.
I think is a matter of preference. I have the skyrocket and bought the wife the white vivid. Here's my opinion I dislike sense it's not that bad I just think is bloated and overly complicated for no reason. Tw is less intrusive. But here's the problem I hate the build quality on the vivid it's too heavy and the screen brakes extremely easy( wifey broke the screen already lol) I preferred the light thing profile on the skyrocket plus the Amoled screen just stand out more. I just hate the feeling of metal on my phone.

(Running HoliRaider 1.6 with the 1.5GHz kernel.. but the kicker was installing chainfire 3D and the plugins you can find with our pal google. Also, installing the plugins allowed me to run THD titles flawlessly. Just sayin'...)

Congrats you beat a stock SGSII
My Telus(same as the T-mobile ver) goes way beyond what you got ..im running underclocked to 1.125ghz kernel and i just got 1112352541142..imagine at 1.5
The dev is tons better for our phone since 4 carriers carry essentially the same phone. HTC phones have dull screens that are poor in sunlight. My friend just got this phone which is why im here lookin up stuff for him, and its not impressive at all.

The screen on the Raider/Velocity/Vivid is excellent in producing accurate colors. GSII on the other hand is over saturated in color, but I will say it looks bright enough under the sun. Keep in mind that the if the Telus version is the same as the T-Mobile, then it shares the same processor as the Velocity. Performance in reality should be very similar, the difference you are seeing really stems from running a LOWER resolution screen. I personally think that Sense is much better than TouchWiz, but that is why I'm in this part of the forum.
I do think that at 1.5, you would likely get excellent results. Although quite frankly, without LTE radio, Telus really should have gone with the Exynos
Popped into phones 4 u and saw both phones next to each other and now having 2 nd thoughts on the Htc one.
Asking in a forum for the HTC One will only give you answers in favour of HTC.
You're better off asking in the device suggestion thread

I'd much rather have nothing than have a BB or an iPhone but at least if the OP asks in the linked thread, they may get a least a slight amount of unbiased answers.
The answer they're most likely to get, however, will undoubtedly be the One due to the fact it's Android.

The HTC One has a better screen, speakers, build quality, battery, faster SoC and an IR port. There is also the added Android experience when it comes to apps, customization and ROMs.
The BB Z10 is a solid device. It's completely gesture-based, smooth, has a unified notifications/social hub, and a great on-screen keyboard. It also has a removable battery and micro-SD slot. Build quality is good, battery life isn't. BB10 looks a bit stale compared to Android's 'openness', and the app selection is bad...but you can sideload some Android apps.
I'd personally pick the HTC One. But if you're a Blackberry fan and don't mind the lack off apps and customizability, the Z10 is not a bad choice.

I've both the phone. With the last upgrade the battery life on BB10 is good. Both the phone have their good things and bad things. In any case the BB is more business oriented and has the Hub that is far away All other phone. It's so simple!!!! Just one gesture to take a look to everything happens in your world!
The One has other major characteristics like the camera, a lots of outstanding features, an obviously better construction quality. Choice is up to you. Both the phone are good phone and the BB OS is truly rock stable and usable... I repeat... I own both so both are good!
One.
Bye Bye now.

I would not recommend BB to 99% of people mainly due to poor app selection and a lackluster OS. I don't care what alternative you pick. Go buy an iPhone or GS4, I don't care, just not a BB.
I own both of these phones. The z10 will always come out of the bag when I am at work and i need to have quick access to emails. In my opinion, it also offers superior calendar app for business users. It is also quicker to navigate than the One due to its intuitive gestures. I also make less errors on z10 keyboard. BB10 has slightly superior battery life since upgrade. Plus, the z10 battery is removable and its memory is expandable. A plus for me again, was that it has a very functional pull down shortcut menu with options to adjust WiFi, sound etc on it.
However, the One has a much superior build, more apps and has more stable software. It has way better sound quality, screen resolution and camera. It is also faster and smoother than the z10.
Being android, it is so much more customizable than the Z10 too.
Neither phone has battery percentage indicator, which is not great. However, at least with the One, it is possible to get an app that puts the percentage in the notification bar....visible on all screens.
Your choice might depend on your use. I use both phones for different purposes. Z10 for work and the One for leisure.
USING: BB Z10, HTC ONE and GALAXY NOTE 2
Personally I'd say htc one. But go into a shop and try them both next to each other to see which you really prefer.

Blackberry for me only stands out because of their harware keyboard phones(yeah I am a keyboard freak when it comes to phones). But with the all touch phone like the Z10? Get the HTC One
I think the blackberry is more durable while the Htc one will be prone to scratches. The blackberry also has a much better resale value on sell your mobile compare sites which tells me the Htc is not rated. However the Htc is more powerful bigger and better screen.

The Z10 on screen keyboard is MUCH better than the HTC One's keyboard imo. I make much less errors - it has much better prediction. Maybe try to test both in your local store...typing at full speed. I reckon you'll be surprised.
USING: BB Z10, HTC ONE and GALAXY NOTE 2
I understand about the onscreen keyboards What I was talking about is the hardware keyboard that exists on old blackberry phones. So without them I wouldn't reconsider onscreen keyboard quality over everything
And yeah even up till now I'm still relying on hardware keyboard phones. Still using the Mytouch 4g slide. And just now I tried using onscreen keyboards and I suck! Haha 2 letters/sec FTW!

Oh yessss. Swype make the difference. Anyhow I think the best in BB is the Hub. Generally is impossible stating one phone is better than another. It depends on the use. I like the One, but olso I like my z10.
I have been using the Z10 for about a week now and I got to say... I am impressed.
There aren't as many apps out for it as there are for iOS and android but really, how many apps were available when android or IOS was first released?
I used to own a blackberry and left it for android. After using the Z10 I feel it's time to switch back.
Don't hate the device until you actually try it out.
I personally judge a device on first, how it feels in my hand. I'm not going to carry a phone around with me if it just feels uncomfortable to hold. The HTC One S was at the top of that list for me. It has now been dethroned. The Z10 has a feel to it that's hard to explain it just feels right.
Secondly for me is integration of my various email accounts and social networking clients. Blackberry 10 has an integration that surpasses anything you have ever seen in android. The way it handles email, texts, social media, and messengers cannot be touched. I'm at a loss for words. It can't be beat, period.
The interface on the Z10 is easy for someone coming from android, iOS or windows phone to understand. There is a small learning curve. You're not going to pick it up instantly and understand how to use it for the first time, but it's easy to learn.
The rest of it is basically stuff you already know. innovative keyboard, mediocre app world, OK camera, etc.
I'm not telling you to buy the device over the HTC One. I have no experience with that device and how it operates.
I think i'd rather cut off a toe than have a blackberry, really bad phones, although the z10 has to be the best they have to offer, just put it next to the One and you'll make up your own mind.
In my line of work i use every single device on the market (available in britain anyway) and like i said it's the best they have to offer but i feel that it's still not bringing a lot to the table, not when you compare it to the higher tier android handsets.

I agree. If you need to own two phones, these might be best of the bunch at the moment... with The One leading for build and (android) apps Vs. BBZ10 winning for smooth interface, integration, comfort in hand, calendar and on-screen keyboard prediction
If you have to choose one, get whichever suits your personal needs best. Try em both out in store perhaps
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2

If you really think this a question, I have no answer for you.
This is an Android vs BB10 question, not a phone vs phone question.
