[Q] Wireless Charging - Moto X Q&A

So I just saw that I can wirelessly charge the X...but what system do I use/how effective is it?

where did you see that?

Yeah, Moto X does not have wireless charging. You must have misread or the source was plain wrong.

Lots of places have it listed...Gizmodo is where I first saw it. (Although them being wrong wouldn't surprise me)

You made me doubt myself for a moment there! But alas:
Here's a chart that should give you a solid answer. I looks at several sources, all said it did not have wireless charging unfortunately. It would have been cool to have.

I have a Nokia QI charger I use with my N72. Doesn't work with X.

I see that I probably should have added the phrase "That is my opinion" to my post. :silly:
My logic is that the adaptive fast charger originally came with the GS6 and thus it's designed by the same OEM for that exact model. You could argue that the adaptive charger that came with the Note 4 should be the same one. It actually is not. The Note 4's is based on Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology, while the GS6's is a different standard, mainly because it's not rocking a Qualcomm chip anymore.
My point is that it's definitely a safer bet to use accessories that came with the phone or claim compatibility with it. I'm not stopping anyone from doing what they want with their chargers, but I would just caution you to do a bit of research first to make sure what you're doing will not damage that $800 marvel we put our money in.
Just my opinion, of course. :good:

I disagree. Fast charge is fast charge, homie. Plug your N6 or S6 charger into your S6 and the same thing happens.
This is just my opinion if you have an s6 charger why would you use one from another phone?

Slow charging...??

So I started to notice about three days ago that for some odd reason it takes longer to charge.. On average it used to take about 2 hours to charge full from 0% now it can take up to 8 hours on the original Motorola quick charge or any quick charger 2.0
I already did a factory reset and started fresh then flashed the google factory images and completely wiped my nexus 6 but nothing helped. Can someone please help out as to why and how to fix it. Thank you!!!

@rootSU Yes I tried different cables. It also happen in my truck when using a new Qualcomm certified 2.0 quick charge..

Theres a possibility it's hardware at your device side. Is it rooted / customised in anyway?
Definitely check out "Ampere" here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere
I get around 2000mA showing when I'm on my Quick Charge, with any decent cable.
@rootSU I will check on that and get back to you thank you! Is the latest T-Mobile factory image posted in google page with WiFi calling yesterday but I did root it.

I would consider flashing back to stock (to wipe root cleanly) and contact support in case it is a hardware issue. Dodgy pin in the port maybe?!

This thread must surely be a sticky thread for long lasting information.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much for the "Ampere' suggestion. My MotoG factory default charger was giving only 10mA for some reason. Looked like it got corrupted. I thought battery was draining quickly due to apps and greenified some apps initially
Quite surprisingly battery savers were not giving this information. Even apps like cpuz were just telling charging or discharging & 3.76 mv or 3760 v which was not of much use.
I was thinking MotoG must be replaced with new one. This suggestion has changed my view entirely.
2 Questions, what is the ideal charging mA for moto G gen 1?
How to assess the health of our phone?

Im not sure. A lot of phones are 1.2A, or 1.5. The nexus 6 is 2A

well.. my phone was on the charger, at 100%. and ampere said so. but current widget still showed that some current was going in, 55mA worth. and itll show 0mA when it actually finishes charging. I couldn't find anything similar in ampere. or maybe I just missed it? btw, free version, not pay.

If you watch ampere closely, youll see the phone cuts the charge off and then starts it again constantly whilst at "100%"
I've got a video somewhere, hang on...
Edit - actually I'm talking about wireless charging.

I see you edited it.. if I use it while its plugged in, itll get to 0, and let in 4-5mA every minute or so. if I dont use it, it stays at 0mA until I unplug it.

[Q] Anyone else have broken wireless charging? Help me out.

Hey guys.
I bought one of those NewWisdom stickers and it worked like a charm..... for a week. Then it would sit on the charger, show charging for a second, and then it would "disconnect". I am using multiple Tylt's and other chargers that I know work, but this error happened.
I read that the little stickers can be crappy and go bad, so I asked for a warranty replacement. I got a new one, installed it, and bam, same issue right away.
Is it more likely that I got 2 faulty charging stickers? Or that something is wrong on the inside of the phone?
I know you've posted on the threads re: the sticker.
Re: breakdown of the charging, I think the most relevant thread re: this is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/qi-stopped-t3176818
Though lots of reports here too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/wireless-charging-meltdowns-t3163156
Are you saying that right after the new sticker install, it never worked? Or it worked, then stopped?
It's becoming a widespread issue. Not everyone, but A LOT of folks.
My personal opinion, based on my observations on 2 phones using an OEM charging back, with a new sticker as a backup checker, is it is a hardware issue within the phone. Or perhaps some software issue tied into the hardware.

Thanks for the links. The Additional information helps.
I posted to see what sticker was best and if anyone had one die on them. Seems that this is common enough. I hadn't posted this exact question before.
The new one i bought never worked. I know the pins are lined up and I even padded the back of them a little. My QI pads all show a green light, then a red light. Makes me think the sticker works just fine, but the inside of the phone is FUBARed.
I want to like this phone, i really do.

Hahah, me too! The camera, if you don't get one with a pink tinge overlay, is fantastic! The iffy touchscreen issues are fixed with the 10N update!
The fact the wireless charging capability keeps breaking down as a hardware issue is ridiculous though.
I may post a poll to see if anyone has managed to keep their charging ability >1 month. Maybe when more time passes, as the phone is still quite new.
Just to let people know... I got a replacement today and the back that didn't work on my current phone works perfectly on the new one. For some reason... This issue is tied to the phone and not the stickers coming out.

Yup there's definitely a faulty part in these phones.
Let us know how long the wireless charging lasts on this one.
Just a note, my wireless charging also stopped. It was a sticker I put on the original back. Just figured i'd screw with it later and that it probably wasn't making good contact so I picked up a regular wireless circle case to use in the meantime and it's also not charging. Likely something in the phone but I have no idea where to start. Oh well, that month of wireless charging was nice again. (and yes, I've tried different chargers that I know work, etc. Hah!)
Going strong for 4 weeks and still charging(with three different QI chargers and two different stickers). Possible cheap quality chargers are blowing out the hardware?

Always a thought, but I use the OEM original Samsung Qi charger, which has done fine with my S4 for years.
For any who have tried wireless charging, I have a poll and questionnaire re: your experience. Would greatly appreciate your input.

Qi wireless charging not working on Nexus 6

hello. does anyone know if the developer preview supports wireless charging? i have a Nexus 6 with NFC turned on, but when i place it on the charger nothing happens. I've tried 3 different chargers and didn't use a case while trying to charge. As you know the Nexus 6 is qi enabled. Thank you.

Google Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P - Defective stock charger issues

Hey guys,
Did somebody else watched this? Apparently the Nexus 5x and 6P USB-C standard chargers are not safe!! I am really worried because I'm using mine in my daily basis to charge my N5X and my wife LG G5.
Can somebody corroborate this tests?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMPrM0eWPbY
http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...ble-nexus-5x-6p-defective-charger-issues.html
Yes, watch it even before xda portal post. Benson has mentioned Nathan K. and Gtrusted related works on G+ before.
Part 2 is here too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBcjlGu4uLo
The chargers just being dumb and will provide power output whenever a circuit is completed.
Even the other side doesnt told it to, like a dog bite into the cable.
Or the other side is a usb power host too and doesnt told it to provide output [this is BAD], just don't try it.
What you need to know is don't connect it to others usb power host.
Then it should be fine. Meanwhile, we waited for Google's proper response or recall.
I have that charger... Is there a cheap way to check it for any faults?

That's the way it was designed, but it isn't the charger that is controlling that. The phone is the one controlling how much current it pulls, subject to what the charger conveys it can handle or some default rules if that information is not explicitly available.
I have to say that my Nexus 5X charger is dead because the fabric problems with it
