I was just wondering why the tf701 isn't added to the forum yet.
I have heard nothing about it over at xda, is it me or are people just not stoked to welcome this device?
This also makes me wonder on how development is going to be on this device..
i am wondering about exactly the same, since i have one already

Do you come from a tf700 as well? If so, how does the non-aluminum dock feel like : cheap, sturdy etc.
Oh and have you experienced any random reboots? I heard stories about that

Nope, didnt have any tablet before. the dock feels slightly cheap, but can be due to the light weight.
I've read about that reboot crash stuff aswell at amazon, but i did not experience such things so far, AND there is already a new firmware that fixes those problems (also written at amazon).
What i also like is that Asus already released the Bootloader unlocker, but since only have it since 4 days i want to wait until i do such things.
Negative points so far: No Vibration.
positive points so far: Battery, Floating Apps, not that much bloat ware.

Mods, please create a TF701 forum section plz

I'll be getting one of these beauties to replace my TF101

I was able to root my tf700t without unlocking bootloader, in fact i've customized it to a maximum level using only root.
So no rom flashing or anything.
Maybe that method will work on the tf701, but I highly doubt it cause its a new processor.
Still waiting for the new infinity to come to shops, it's available in webshops but I want to have a warranty at a store.
Can't wait to have it though

I received my TF701 yesterday. In the Netherlands it is already available in some webshops.
First impression:
- crystal clear screen (in one word: WOW)
- no lag of any sort: everything works great
- graphics on games as Beach Buggy Blitz are amazing! No lag of any sort, not even on the highest resolution etc.
- tablet itself has an aluminium cover (dark grey). It does not look purple like the prime. I like it, but that's a personal thing
- WiFi is excellent! Compared to the Transformer Prime, that is not a surprise. However, the TF701 detects the same signals as the 17" laptop, a desktop PC with a USB-wifidongle and a cellphone (Samsung Galaxy S3 mini) do.
- GPS is detecting satellites instantly
And now the cons:
- the dock is made of plastic and sounds plastic, al little cheap. Everything works as it should though...
- I tried to plug in a USB-stick: some force is needed (though I thinks that has to do with the stick, which is always in my pocket...
- at start up I tried the mousepad, it did not work instantly... After I plugged in a USB-stick, it worked splendidly (every time). It seems you have to 'activate' the mousepad
- I am desperately missing root... I'd like to put back my backups, but that doesn't work right now.
- the server to update firmware automaticly was down yesterday.

Thanks for informing me ^^
About that usb stick insertion thing, I had the same thing going on with my tf700 with any usb cable or stick. it's definitely the usb port I think.
You could try and root using motochopper or a CF auto root. This doesn't affect your bootloader what so ever so if it works, its great, and if it fails.. well it just fails then, no harm there at all
I have tried motorchopper and DebugfsRoot_Generic_v2.3. They both did not work: I have no root.
And for the record: I am NOT taking a risk of HARD-BRICK my brandnew device... So no flashing and downgrades for me the next 24 months...
True.
but tbh, i flashed the new firmware today cause i had a random reboot yesterday. So far the slight lags are gone, and no reboots, i'll keep on testing
The mousepad issue has been fixed in the latest firmware update and is working fine now on my TF701
I have mine since last week (Switzerland) and I am VERY happy with it! Eagerly waiting for the forum to discuss on XDA - and root of course!
I really have no complaints about the device until now. No reboots, no problem with dock and keyboard, fast like hell, long battery life and a superduper screen )) Every USB stick I tested worked fine and my 64 GB SanDisk microSD adds a looot of fast storage. Charges in under 3 hours, I love that!
It can easily stream 1080p MKV files from my NAS with BSPlayer without struggling... Comming from Galaxy Tab 10.1 (first version) it's an upgrade in every matter I can think of!
Can someone post up some pics of the device? I heard that the US will be it first week of Nov. I hope that is true.

There are loads of pictures online that can be found with google. If you want a picture of anything specific let me know.
^^ same here: I can make pictures etc. this afternoon. Same goes for testing: if you want something tested, let me know. I'll try it then.
Really looking forward to the TF701 - thanks for the info from those lucky enough to have one already. I've been waiting ages for this - but then haven't we all!
An upgrade for my TF101 is overdue.
Glad to hear random reboots appear to be not happening / or are being resolved with OTA upgrades.
Anyone know of availability in the UK?

Everyone is writing that the Nook Color is supposed to be a great tablet.
I somehow haven't started to enjoy it at all. I'm having massive problems with the touchscreen, when it's cold outside I can not use it inside for a while - till it warmes up again - the touchscreen gets unresponsive and random taps.
I also get random taps sometimes and the tab becomes completely unusable.
I can't find any slick ipad-style apps. And generally can't find a lot great apps, no xfire client (xfmobile doesnt work), no internet radio etc...
There's no real good Os, cm7 has no videos, honeycomb is too laggy, I haven't tried Froyo really...
I want to enjoy my Nook Color, but somehow I can't really - especially because of the touchscreen, it's ruining the whole joy.
I initially wanted to buy a cover for my "iphone cover" for my ipod and then tether the connection to the nook, but im quite unsure, because the thing isn't working well.
I'm actually thinking about selling the device again on ebay and getting a galaxy tab or a dell streak.
A lot of the issues you're describing, touchscreen aside, aren't realty problems with the device, but moreover the fact that Google only really released tablet intended apps 2 weeks ago. The apps you're saying you're not liking or waiting for are designed for Honeycomb, not froyo/eclair which is what NookColor base is composed of.
Just give it time man, the awesome will come

Anyone who is telling you it's a great tablet is exaggerating... It's always going to be an eBook reader first. With this community it can become more but it is sold solely as an eBook reader.
I've got no problem with it being a ereader primarily, i was actually looking for an ereader when I found the Nook Color. But if the touchscreen is so bad sometimes that I can't even flip the page, or it starts zooming in and out randomly, my reading experience is also not so splendid anymore.
I'm going to try one last thing - going back to stock 1.1 and then I'll give Froyo a try.
huh
Sounds like you're in need of a hug.
Who cares if you sell it on ebay and buy a tab? Do it and enjoy, don't whine here about it.
I haven't tried it yet, but by most accounts, you have skipped the best os. Nookie Froyo is supposed to be the most useful and stable os available (completely stock is more stable though). I don't think anyone said it would be as good as an iPad. They just said it was much better than the budget android tablets and a great value for it's low price.
Sounds like 1 of these 3.
1. You're doing it wrong.
2. User error.
3. Hardware issues.

Strange,
I thought Pandora actually qualifies as an Internet radio .
Anyway, are you saying that even with rooted Nook and Android Marketplace you can not install any of the internet radio apps? For example, highly popular TuneIn Radio? I haven't yet rooted my Nook but TuneIn Radio was one of the main reasons I was looking forward to doing it. I am not a big fan of Tablet-based games and I prefer to watch movies on my big screen TV, but music, radio, unlimited Web Browsing (hello, Apple ;-) and photo-frame app were my biggest drivers in getting Nook Color over the first-edition Nook.
As for the actual issue... keep the screen clean and put a film kit on it. If you still have glitches, go get it exchanged. If you bought a car and it only ran on 3 cylinders you'd get it exchanged for free, right?

A little bit of research could have prevented your disappointment.
Before buying something, do a Google search on it and see the good and bad points of whatever item you are looking to buy.
Unfortunately, the bad decision was all yours.

Its sold more like a tablet limited to be being an ereader for the time being by B&N, as they have a update promised to bring a market and apps with it.
As was said earlier, this is more a problem with android ifself or the apps not being designed to handle the screen or hardware and issuses this brings (like scale problems or angry birds not showing up for awhile b/c we dont have a cell modem).

Try warming up your fingers and using the screen when it is cold. It is more likely that your fingers are less conductive than the screen is not working.
(Im serious btw, I have the same problem)
The touch screen does'nt like moisture or wet hand. If you go from cold to warm place, you'll get a lot of moisture on the device

I haven't thought of that, my hands are generally cold, when i was outside then they are nearly dead cold - my ipodTouch works perfectly no matter in what condition my hands are, but that's also a different quality.
Is there any way to get a similar film/coating that is supposed to be on the touchscreen of apple devices onto the nook?
Could you tell exactly how cold it was when you're experienced touchscreen problems? Today I used Nook when temperature was around 0 degrees Celsius and the only problem I had was that screen surface isn't slippery enough, so it was hard to play Glow Hockey.
Has anyone really called a Nook Color a "Great Tablet?"
I have mostly seen "best tablet under $300," which it is. I am loving mine, if only because after years of having an iPhone getting to switch Safari for Firefox is a godsend...
i have no problem running the slacker radio app. so no problems with internet radio.
This post is primarily for people who are considering whether to get the Optimus 2X or O2X from now on, and are sitting on the fence. I got my O2X at 1400 hrs on the 11th of May. It's 1845hrs now on the 12th of May.
Prior to getting the O2X, I became active in the O2X forums here on XDA. And I downloaded all the necessary software for it too such as new baseband, latest ROM (I use Fear's), OneClickRoot, LG drivers etc. First thing I did when I got the O2X was to plug it in to AC Power and charge it. Battery was at 44% out of the box.
Once it showed 100%, I plugged it in to my USB and checked the baseband. Was the old one. So I rooted it, updated the baseband and flashed Fear's ROM. Before that, I played with the stock LG Android for a little. When I first booted it up, for the first 30 secs, it was real laggy. But after that, it was real smooth. No noticeable lag at all.
So after I flashed Fear's ROM, which is rock stable for me, I began downloading apps I used on my previous Android phone, the Dell Streak. Downloaded Juice Defender. Phone began to reboot by itself. 3 times in an hour. Uninstalled it and back to its stable self. Been using it the whole of today, no lag, really fast. And the screen is really gorgeous too. Bright and vibrant. Installed LauncherPRO, GOSMS and GOContacts so I could completely stop using LG apps. Battery usage was on the high side though that was expected. Read somewhere battery wont be spectacular for the first couple of cycles so I will update on that later, after more usage. Gaming wise, tried 3 games. Asphalt 6 HD, Samurai 2 and Angry Birds. O2X handled them exceptionally well. No lags. Angry Birds seem to be build for Tegra. Butter smooth. You gotta see it to believe it. Havent tried playing it on my TV though although I suspect Ill do that soon enough. Web surfing was a pleasure too. Incredibly smooth.
On the hardware side, I wasnt impressed when I saw it on the photos online. But holding it in my hands, it's definitely a well made product. Really slim, and light too (At least for me, coming from a Dell Streak). I don't have any heat issues too other than during charging which is to be expected. The 4" screen is a real beauty, the curved glass in the edge is a nice touch. I even hear the screen is Gorilla glass although I can't confirm it. Call quality is excellent for me. The speakers are above average and are stereo.
Final words, the O2X is hands down the best Android device I've owned. Arguably the best phone I've owned even (And I've owned quite a few). CM7 is in the nightly build stage, moving forward in full force. Once CM7 gets stable, the O2X will fly. The only bottleneck now is software since we already know the O2X is a beast inside. Once that get's settled, you've got one heck of a mean device on your hands.
So to summarize,
+ Beautiful 4" screen
+ Monstrous Speed
+ Awesome web surfing abilities
+ Excellent construction
+ Able to play any game you throw at it, more Tegra optimized games will be out soon too
+ HDMI Mirroring, and it was nice having the HDMI cable included
+ Camera and video camera works well too
- Only average Battery life
- Have to wait a while before you can get your hands on CM7
- LG Software sucks.
- No dedicated camera button
- From what I hear, LG Support is not that fantastic.
In all honesty, I feel the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I would recommend the O2X to anyone I will be updating this with any new thoughts or experiences in the future.
Thanks to :
You, for taking your time to read this.
LG, for the fantastic Hardware.
FearKill, for the fantastic ROM
The whole Cyanogen Team
The XDA Community, for continually being involved in making Android even better
Google, for Android.
Last but not least, my beloved HTC G1, which made me fall in love with Android

also - give me example of smartphone with good support? htc? NO samsung? NOOOOOOOO motorola: I dont think so

how do you know it is not causing your problems?
Juice defender causes the phone to reboot because it comes with buggy drivers. In particular the wifi driver seems to be the biggest cause. If you stop it from enabling/disabling wifi it should work well.

for gingerbread juice defender sucks. sorry to tell you but i used it myself a long time on the n1, then the nexus s and on the lg o2x. i occasionally give it another try but always come to the same conclusion. since we got gingerbread (that would require you to run cm7 at this point) it just stopped working properly for me. especially now on the o2x, on which we do not have software running as it suppose to run, i'd adwise you not to use juice defender. but you should test it for yourself... just my experience with it....

I myself have never tried gingerbread before. And I am reluctant to try the nightly builds just yet. But JD works well with Froyo. Just not well with the O2X since we have driver issues. A hardware problem. Not a problem with JD. Anyway, I am runny Froyo now and had JD uninstalled due to the reboot problem allegedly caused by the wifi drivers.

Thanks for your review. I was thinking between Atrix, Galaxy S2 and 2X. GS2 has too big screen(and still not in my country) for me, Atrix is too expensive in Europe (£499 in UK -.-' without docks), so I think 2x will be my choice.
But wait, that wifi driver can't be fixed? I always connect drivers with software, not hardware.

GS2 isnt out here either (Singapore). And heard the Atrix has a locked bootloader. The wifi driver will be fixed eventually. Dont misunderstand me. Wifi works fine. It only goes bonkers when you install JuiceDefender and it tries to disable your wifi.
If you use a custom kernel with an update wifi driver it doesn't reboot at all anymore

Nice to hear that. Seems that 2X is the best buy, has unlocked bootloader, very good HDMIout performance, high FPS ingame etc. I can get it sim-locked for 100euro + 40euro monthly, and sim-free it is 450-500euro. Could be cheaper but my country sucks xD. I will get it for 1-2 months, it should be much cheaper .

So, there are NO hardware problems with O2X, it is only a bad software?
I was in dilemma between those 3 devices, but almost gave up of O2X because someone said reboots/freezes were hardware problem .

Hi guys,
i am thinking to buy optimus 2x or desire s. (they both cost almost the same, minor diff), i dont even dare call optimus 2x a phone anymore
desire s:
cool looking, metal body, great size,
BUT sucky camera, non rootable without xtc clip, no devs working on it, and some battery cover problems (squeaky)
optimus 2x:
LOTS of devs (which im hoping will fix the reboot issue), CM (yeaa!), great camera, hardware etc...
BUT its rebooting, getting very hot (for many), screen backlight bleeding and generaly unstable phone... my only gripes with it.
im so lost. any advice is VERY appreciated
The hardware for the Desire S is a real let-down IMHO. I've found my O2X to be stable generally, the early nightlies of CM7 weren't great but after about 10 they really improved. LG's software sucks but the phone is still usable, if laggy.
I've had no heat issue (if anything it runs cooler than my old Desire, if not my DEXT). Likewise the screen bleeding issue. I wouldn't choose any other phone right now.

and if i may ask, for how long have you had your o2x ?
Looolll.
Is like comparing a Toyota with a Ferrari....
Ofcourse LG O2X.
I have mine since day one of release.
Some times (once a week or in 2 weeks) BSOD.
Phone never gets warm or what so ever.
Kept it stock for a long time. Rooted my phone like 2 weeks ago.
Just for Adfree, nothing else.
Had mine for a week. Stabile as rock! Not one reboot. No heat issues.
I have frozen antivirus and drivemehome (perhaps those who make the device reboot??)
My battery is good for 2 days with moderate use on 2G network. Have disabled 3G...
The backlight bleeding is a problem with all LCD screen more or less. I dont know why you want to stare at the screen while its pitch black in a room without light... I have some bleeding, but never bothers me. It is usually something to see in the screen
and what about the other loads of ppl who have bsod 5 times per day :| ?
i just really dont want want to go wrong with this because return is not an option

Just play with your phone hardcore for 3 days.
If any BSOD, REBOOT, hot tempure will occure you can go to the store en switch the phone.
And if your phone has these issues, I think you will notice it on the hardcore 3 day use.

I would do the opposite actually. Using the phone will give you no issues, it's only when left alone that the problems occur.
I seriously wouldn't risk this phone to be honest. You're guaranteed to have issues in one way or another, and you shouldn't have to root and void your warranty to get a reliable phone.
IMHO, if you can wait, I would suggest waiting 6 weeks to 2 months to see how the dual-core phone scene pans out. I think gingerbread would likely be on LG2X by then, as would improved stability on other dual-core phones as well. Also, like all electronic products, the longer you wait to buy - the cheaper they become.
keep in mind that some people had the O2X for 3 weeks before they started getting reboots/ freezes and BSOD. Just saying
Just you wait a little more while. CM7 will be as stable as a rock soon enough.
IMO. The Desire S should be around 2/3 the price of O2X to make it any worthy compared to O2X. It's just an upgraded version of the original Desire with a high pricetag.
The desire and incredible s work out of the box though. Without random reboots and freezes. If you just want a phone that works, I would go with the desire.
The 2x is great hardware for the money, but hardware isn't everything. I'm saying if you were concerned about problems, this really isn't the handset for you. Because you are 99% guaranteed to have issues.
If you are buying this with the intention to hack the hell out of it, you might be ok. You can't beat it's hardware to price ratio.
Don't even think about running this phone on stock if that is your intention.
It still hasn't been fully determined if anyone running stock, no root, no changes haven't had issues. Checking the various threads, I can't see anyone using stock that doesn't have issues. Most have either rooted and frozen apps, or put a complete new rom on.
If there are people running stock and don't have issues, they are a minority at best.
The op is saying a return isn't really an option to them. If so, then look elsewhere.
I hacked the **** out of it. And I love it. I could get an sgs2 but I didnt and thats saying a lot.

thanks guys. idk, i think im more leaning towards optimus 2x now, cuz of CM mostly, but then again, the size is kinda huge especially for a 4 inch screen.
and 1 more question, hows the audio quality through headphones ? i read in gsmarena that stereo crosstalk is pretty awful, what do you people think ? its kind of important cuz i always use my phone as a music player
Why isn't the stock ROM an option? My first handset had to be replaced on day one. My replacement has BSOD once in a month. BSOD aside, the stock ROM really aint that bad - the LG home app isn't so great, but replace it with Go Launcher (or Launcher Pro or. . . ) and it's fine.

lol this bsod stuff looks so god darn random, i wish it was more concentrated so ppl could determine the ultimate cause.
btw another Q, hows the call quality ? and still: hows the sound through headphones ( is the stereo cross talk bearable ? cuz gsmarena said its pretty sucky, wondering how is it in real life situations)

I've found the call quality to be fine - in quiet situations, it's excellent, in noise situations it's fine. I've not used the handsfree, so don't know how calls are through headphones, but music is aok .

This phone has been out for like a month now (i think) yet there are no specifically designed cases for it!
I don't want mine getting damaged and I don't want a pouch/sock for it as they are useless!
Anyone found any in the UK? All I want is a simple silicon case for protecting the back/sides

I've been looking with no luck yet for a UK distributor. I'm just looking for a simple gel case for a couple of quid, but can't find anything. Strange since I think that there will be quite a good market for this excellent little handset.

The phone deserves to sell well, but I am not sure it quite has the distribution to make it a success. I've tried my best by giving it a good (and totally deserved) review, and other reviews on the net are all positive too.
However, you'd have thought someone would have made a case by now, especially as it's essentially the same as the Razr M so the Chinese (and even UK factories that make cases) knew the dimensions in advance.
We also need to get a docking station (I am sure there must be one for the M) and the in-car holder, which - if it's the same as the one for the Atrix and original RAZR - is excellent.

I agree, it's a very solid phone. I bought one as a stop gap after my SGS2 decided to die on it's ass. I actually much prefer it to the SGS2, the construction is top notch, it's very fast - i have noticed no difference in the OS speed compared to the SGS2, indeed I have noticed that the Razr i is a hell of a lot faster in the browser & camera department. I can see myself keeping hold of this for quite a while.
The only annoyance is the silly swipe right to get to the short-cuts instead of dragging down from the top, and there is no shortcut to turn off auto-rotate screen easily. Would prefer a user replaceable battery but I'm finding that this lasts about 4 hours longer than my SGS2 does with the 2000mah extended battery.
I'm sure cases will become available soon. If not then i'll just get a Razr M version instead. Top phone, pleasant surprise. 9/10

Get another launcher for a more traditional launcher experience, without the left hand settings panel (which is actually quite useful - but I agree would be nice to toggle on/off). You can however still get to settings from the pull down notifications - it's the star at the top right (next to the X to close all notifications).
The only annoying thing for me is the stuttering for the animation when you zoom out to view all the pages, which isn't even something I'd want to do - but I can't turn it off.
Oh, and not being able to change the shortcuts from the lock screen. I'd rather be able to quickly open GMail than the camera, which I can fire up at any time anyway.
But these are minor issues and overall I'm extremely happy with the phone and don't even feel like I'm missing out on the 1280x720 pixel display I had before, or even care about the PenTile matrix display - given how nice it is overall.

I have found a charge cradle/dock that fits and works for the Razr i. It's for a Motorola Droid 4 XT894 BC77 on ebay and item number 261086930145. Works a charm.

So it does. I hadn't held the home button down until now, I see the animation stutter slightly in both directions as it pans in & out. Obviously that needs a tweek, although Jelly Bean will hopefully be along before too long.
It's odd that we can't change the shortcuts on the home screen, I was looking for that feature for a while. I'd like to replace camera with an email shortcut too.
Just got a reply from mobilefun.co.uk - Looks like all the usual accessory paraphernalia for this phone will become available within the next 2 weeks.
Thank you for your email,
I am sorry to hear that you can not find any products for your phone however have some great news.
Please check back in the next 2 weeks at which point we should be live with a selection of motorola razr i products.
Hope this helps
Razr i case
I have just got a case from Amazon for my Razr i, & it fits almost perfectly.
I went around the local phone shops & compared sizes. The closest I got was a Nokia Lumia 800. This case is leather, extremely well made, & looks great.
It was, wait for it........................£4.99 for a real leather case with free delivery. Bargain!
It is a teeny tiny bit small, but the clasp closes with no problem, all the buttons & sockets are not covered, & it is securely held. To be honest, it looks like it was made for the Razr.
Search for "Terrapin Lumia 800" on Amazon & it is the second one down (leather with cream inside). Can't post links yet.

I am trading-in my TF700 for a TF701. Has anyone that has had theirs for a while found any negatives? If you had it to do over would you still get the TF701 or something else? If something else what would it be?
I've had some occasionally odd screen behavior. I had to send it back for repair because the phantom touches made it unusable.
Now once in a while an area near the edge might not respond. It's usually very minor.
Despite that I am very happy with it. There's more development going on so there are now four kitkat roms that I know of.
It's very fast. Apps, home screens (Nova) and menus don't hesitate. I'm coming from an Xperia tablet Z. We also have a nexus 7 and an lg g pad 8.3. All are good. I like this one best.
I also like the proprietary charging port. It's sturdier. On my Z the plug would get the slightest pressure and start to bend or fall out.
I have no problems at all! My first and best tablet so far I have it since last november!
Best tablet I ever used too! And it's got CROMi-X and CROMBi-kk on it as well - what more could you ask for?
I can see room for improvement in the software.
i mean for all devices anyway,
but improvements are coming every day from open source.
So we will see what exciting things are yet to come.
I had occasional issues such having to restart the tablet to have it download from the play store and the occasional lock up due to too many apps. Most of these issues were solved by sbdags and not by ASUS with CROMi-X. Depressed me I had to unlock my bootloader to get maximum functionality but it is what it is. I still love my tablet.
I'm in fairly the same situation as the OP right now. So, aside from the docking being loose (which can be fixed with a simple mod), most of the issues are software related and could be all cleared through a custom ROM?
