when inserting sim card causes no signal at all - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have an month old s4 active and when I insert my sim card in the phone the signal bars aren't present. The circle with the line across it is shown. I called att to insure that the phone isn't blocked and they say its good to go. When I take the sim card out and boot the phone , the signal bars are shown. Could my card reader be out?

No sim card problem.

Hello to all,
before u start saying to search the forum, i did. But havent find solution for my problem so i opened a new thread.
So the problem is that my tytn register some sim cards but some dont, its like a random thing. My old sim card and new one works, now i tried with new sim card but from a nother network, and it says no sim, i try with my old sim from the same network and it works. I tested with about 10 random sim cards and 6 out of 10 works, no matter how old they are and from what network they are. I flashed my phone, tried new roms, cleaned sim card slot, but nothing worked.
If u can help me, i will be verry grateful
P.S: Sorry for my bad english
out of the 10 sims, 6 work...correct? lets call the sims that work numbers "1 through 6" and lets call the sims that don't work numbers "7 through 10".
i would say it is a hardware problem IF AND ONLY IF even one of "1 through 6" STOP working or if even one of "7 through 10" START working.
in other words, it is NOT a hardware problem if "1 through 6" work consistently and "7 through 10" fail consistently.
if you determine that it is a hardware problem, then try inserting a piece of paper behind the sim for an extra tight connection or search for bad/loose "main flex cable" and/or "sim assembly".
if you determine that it is not a hardware problem, search about possible known incompatibilities of the kaiser with certain networks' sim cards.
Thanks for advice...i fixed the problem by bending the metal that holds sim card.
But i still dont get it how that fixed things cause sim cards one that worked they worked every time and othet way around with non working sim cards...but ok... now they all work...
nice to hear your problem is solved!
i believe the sim cards that didn't work were probably just "thinner" than the ones that worked. so bending the metal pushes the thin sim cards tighter against the connectors. inserting a piece of paper behind the sim card has the same effect, and it is one of the first suggestions you will read about in most threads about sim card problems.
anyway, congratulations, and its nice to see that you updated your thread with information that helps "close" the issue...perhaps you can change the title of this thread to indicate that the issue was "SOLVED" so that future readers can benefit from it.

Sim card problem

Hello,
I currently have a Nano sim card and the Xperia Z doesn't seem to recognize it when I've fit it with the Nano to Micro sim adapter. Has anyone had success with the Nano to Micro adapter or does the Xperia Z only "recognize" true Micro sim cards?
My partner has the same phone as myself XZ she has the nano SIM working in her XZ it was fiddle getting the simcard in as the XZ has tray itself so I can't see reasons why you have these issues tbh I cut the simcard myself as she wanted the iPhone 5 till I got my upgrade she wanted this XZ now stuck with 3 contracts but hey hope this helps.. Just make sure it's all aligned up and it's inserted with SIM contacts facing down..

I have a nano sim with micro sim adaptor, works fine, just make sure you have the sim inserted correctly and up the right way.
I can't for the life of me figure out what this network problem is. I'm with Bell Canada and the sim card is not cooperating - haven't been able to get service and I inserted the sim card with the adaptor properly because it recognizes the phone number I have. Going to try buying a Micro sim tomorrow and see if that works, if not, this phone might have to go back :crying:

So what is your problem exactly? Can you make phone calls? Can you recieve phone calls? Is data not working?...
Anyway try this. Go into settings, then more under data usage, then mobile network settings, Access point names, do you have any listed here? If not go into network operators, should force the phone to search and list ALL the available networks, all the ones with the NO symbol will be other neworks you can't use on that SIM. Now select your appropriate option. Make sure data is enabled.
Data is enabled but I have the red exclamation point in the top left of the status bar indicating no service - can't make calls, no data, not able to browse the internet, etc. All the normal things you would expect to do with data, of course, I can still go on Wifi and such.
My network doesn't seem to be showing up when it searches for service providers, all I see is 2G/3G EXT under my available networks.

Maybe your provider is not sending out APN's/connection settings for this phone, or has the sending of APN's/connections locked down to known devices for their network, would pay to ask them first before you purchase another SIM etc.
xperia z no service
i have quite similar problem too. my problem is, i often got no service when i am outside my home. whenever i was in my home, the connection network is excellent. but when i went outside home like going to work, i got no service at all.
the only way i tried to get the connection back is by trying to call someone, then the network will be present about a couple of seconds and then no service at all.
please help me, i can make phone call when i am at home but i couldnt receive any phone call when i am outside. i am the opinion that the service provider cut my sim card wrongly. could it be the problem?
thanks in advance.
Hi Everyone,
I have purchased my Xperiz Z 'C6602' in the start of this year (2014). Yesterday, I faced a problem that my mobile was showing no Sim card detection. I have restarted my mobile many times, open the Sim slot and again placed it corrected but the problem persists. I have reset my mobile, check the aeroplane mode but all is well. I am wondering that how this happened because my mobile was working great. I used it at night very well and then after some hours at morning the mobile showed no network connection (detect no Sim) while the Sim was in the Sim Slot.
Please tell me the solution of this problem. Thanks
problems with 3 in 1 sim cards- solved
Had problems with my new Consumer Cellular card in a 6 month old LG phone (takes full size card) and a 1 year old Samsung 3 mini (takes mid sized card).
The original card they sent me was a 2 in 1 card and worked fine in both. When I had my number transfered from my original carrier they sent me a new card which was 3 in 1. It initially worked but then stopped in both within a couple of hours. They sent me new 3 in 1 card- same problem.
I read on line to put a piece of paper about the thickness of a manila folder between the top of the card and the metal bracket to apply more force to the contacts- worked fine in BOTH phones.
Why? Because the nano section of the SIM is thinner than the other two sections. To make matters worse, the side with the contacts is recessed into the card instead of flush to the face of the card. When it is placed in a non-nano phone, there is insufficient force on the electrical contacts.
Hope this helps someone.

Was looking up ways to get the sim card tray FIXED.. Brilliant solution, indeed. Paper ROCKS>> Once I put a few pieces of paper between the sim card and the tray, the sim is detected. Thanks a ton for sharing the simple and effective solution!!

[Q] SIM not detected for multiple cards.

Well I bought Nexus 5. Because of that I had to get a Micro SIM card to fit in it.
I bought another Micro -to- Normal SIM adapter. Like an external Jacket so that I can use the same SIM in my SGS Advance.
Now, because of the SIM holder design, the terminals might have gotten a little worn out due to inserting and removing the SIM card.
But What I dont understand is, it was working fine until suddenly my SGS Advance stopped recognising my SIM card.
Ok.
So I tried other SIM cards. Still the same result. Mind you, the phone was recognising the SIM Card(s) before it was stopped recognising.
Cause for it :
1.physical damage
well I dont think so cause I dont see if there are any terminals missing or something out of place or anything that has fallen off.
2.Software issue.
Please help me. And yeah Phones outta warranty period running 2.3.6 & yeah thats about it. Please see image below. Top notification bar just right of the mid line, symbol that no SIM card is inserted.

No sim card inserted

I have a galaxy s6 for tmobile. I have been using it fine for a while but the other day it gave me an error saying no sim card is inserted. I had a spare sim card and tried that one with no luck. I tried both sim cards in a different phone and worked with no problem. I have read about people dropping the phone and having sim card issues but thats not the case phone was not dropped. I noticed the sim card issue when i took it out my pocket to send a message and was not able to. the only thing i can think of is the sim card reader is shot some how?
I was wondering if there any other options for me to check before i go and get a new sim reader soldered in?
thanks in advance

sim card removed restart

hey
I bought an used note 5 (n920PVPS2BPD1) from china and I am living in Egypt
in every call usually after 5 minutes it disconnect and pop up message appears "sim card removed" and I should restart
also it occurs when I am using mobile data.
my useless trials based on internet comments >
1.the mobile was already rooted so I flashed a new custom rom and the same occurs
2.no 4g forced when I was using a 4g sim (Vodafone)
3.used 3g SIM instead of 4g and auto 3g-2g applied
4.2g only sometimes
5.added simple plaster tape over the sim to hold it in the tray
I cant even sell the phone here because of this and any engineer here suggested to open the phone and change the whole sim tray. so before labeling it as a hardware issue would someone help me in this ?
ill be so grateful
Maybe forget about a 3 year old phone?
Just use small thin tape to fix the position of sim card on the sim card tray. That worked for me on my 3 years old note5
I'm tempted to also think it's to do with the sim tray. Last comment is interesting, or you could add several layers of tape to the sim to have more pressure with the contacts in the tray.
First thing I would do is try cleaning the contacts by inserting in and out 20 the sim 20 times. If nothing of the above work, then have someone to open the device and clean the sim tray contacts with alcohol, or change the tray if you're able to find a replacement.
