I have been using cm 10.1 stable for about two month and just try cm10.2 M1 yesterday.
There are lost of discussion about trim issues in the cm 10.2 thread. But I still could not tell what is trim and whether we need a trim kernel?
There is a wiki CM page discuss about it:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/EMMC_Bugs
But I am not familiar about computing and even though I get my EMMC as:
MAG2GA
0x000015
06
11/2012
I still have not idea do I need to use the trim kernel or not.
Thank you very much

Trim is a useful feature that speeds up your solid state drive and increase its life. However, when it was first introduced in August, a number of users reported their tablets being bricked by the trim feature. Verygreen then disabled trim altogether from the kernel. Since some users have safe emmc , the trim-enabled kernel has been reintroduced with some new safeguards. Your emmc is one of the faulty ones and can be bricked by this kernel so it is probably better to wait and see what others say about the new kernel before trying it yourself.
got it. Thanks. @excalibar001
I have tried the trim kernel and cm10.2 M1. so far so good.
But your advice and information does give me an alert and I think I would stay with the non-trim kernel. At least I did not see any noticable improvement after Trimfix.
laofan,
I am on 10.1.3 stable and got the notification about the 10.2 M1.
How did you go about your update? Was it from within 10.1.3 or via CWM and adding Gapps?
Are there any noticeable improvements?
Thanks!

Hi, in the app eMMC check, it reports my 16gb HD+ as:
Type: MAG2GA
Date: 11/2012
FwRev: 0x06
It also says "Sane chip."
Does that mean if I were to ever use the trim feature on a custom ROM, my chip is safe? Or is it one of the faulty ones?
Also, I do not have any serious lag or stuttering on my HD+ using rooted stock. Navigation is slightly less smooth than on my Nook HD (also on tooted stock), but the difference is not significant to me nor is it like night and day. However, internal memory on my HD+ is only about 40% full. Will lag issues eventually crop up and are they dependent on how full internal memory is?
TIA.

Ignore the sane chip message. The app is for some other device and use it just to identify your chip. This particular chip has reported problems with the trim kernel. A few brave souls are currently trying the new trim kernel on this chip. If I were you, I would sit and wait to see if they would brick their devices or not.

You have to do it from CWM and install the new gapps as well. Recommended method is installing after a factory restore, but I dirty installed it on 10.1 and everything worked just fine.

I just saw Trim for the first time a couple of hours ago.
I'm running the rooted stock ROM... 4.1.2 on a Note 2, N7100 with Perseus kernel.
I never saw it before and I know that it wasn't there yesterday and I said like... WTF is this doing on my phone until I did a couple of searches.
I still don't know how I got it.

I have no current issues with lag but I've only had my HD+ a couple of weeks now. If the issue crops up on the future, is there a fix for stock ROM? I am on 2.1.1 stock and currently prefer to stay on it. I assume Evergreen's trim fix is just for the CM custom ROMs? I took a look at the 10.2 thread and it appears that fix is working.
I've had my HD for a few months now and also see no significant lag issues. Is it possible B&N addressed the lag issue with their 2.1.1 firmware update?

I hope this isn't hypocritical and I'm really only saying this because you're a new-ish low-post user but the question that was asked was a very good question. Trim is valuable for anyone.
Ultimately what I'm saying is your comment added literally nothing of value.
Good question and thank you to the folks who answered; I was unclear on some of this stuff too.

It is. I saw the OP's statement that he was 'new to computing' and didn't want to see him brick his device.
There really isn't anything in this thread that you can't glean from the 10.2 thread in Android development, not to mention just googling 'trim'. Some people just aren't willing to do their own research.
And I'm a low-post user with pride -- I have a full-time job and a life.
Cheers, and good luck to you.

TBF though, this thread is the first time I've fully understood trim, & I've read all the 10.2 thread, there's just so much in there with so many people commenting & asking questions, most of whom are more advanced users, that it's hard to gather the basics easily, & I've experience with rooting & custom roms using my sgs2.

Alright so I know there are many many topics on custom roms for the Nook HD+.
Some of the instructions for installing the rom seems so complicated. Is there any step by step guides to follow or youtube videos on how to install it on to the Nook HD+?
Thanks in advance!!!

#1 - REGISTER your Nook with B&N, BEFORE you remove the old software.
Well, there's this "Dummies" guide for EMMC that will COMPLETELY remove the Stock B&N software, then there's the "Hybrid/SD Card" method , that will keep the B&N stock and add a dual boot option with CM 10.1.
CyanogenMod 10.1 is based on Gogle's Jelly Bean OS for mobile devices, modified to run on a number of devices, including our Nook HD/HD+.
I'm using the Nightly CM 10.1, and it runs better than the stock software, there are other ROM available, but I've never tried them so I can't offer any opinion on them.
Following the Dummies guide by e.mote, is simple and straight forward, read the instructions, then read them again, download the required tools and software and you'll be running CM10.1 in a few minutes.
Good Luck, and enjoy your improved tablet!
Which ovation emmc do I download there are so many?!
And also which NookHDplus-bootable-CWM?
I am so confused, there are so many to download I am not even sure I even have the right files or not.

The "Dummies Guide" thread has a step by step guide with the files listed, and the tools needed to use them. You will almost always want the latest files, except for the ones labeled "Experimental" - those are often for the people who WANT to test and understand they MIGHT cause crashes and have major bugs.
e.mote did an awesome job of organizing the steps and files needed, I would not be able to provide and better or easier guide.
The file names are above the links, look for the files of the same name.
EMMC - NIGHTLY is 20130812, these are built every night, hence the name. I'm using the first official nightly without any problems - 20130809.
CWM - NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).zip - is the file you want.
Hope this helps a little.

Is installing CM10.1 on the emmc faster than sd?
I have an sd bootable cm10.1 is use now and it lags about the speed of a 2010 phone.

Depends on the SD you are using. It can be faster. And that ROM is old so a newer one could be faster.

I've only used the EMMC method, it seemed to be the easiest way, since I didn't care for the B&N software. I can't tell much (if any) of a speed difference from 20130711 Unofficial, to the 20130809 Nightly I'm using now, but I doubt there have been THAT many changes that would boost or slow speed in that time frame.
I've also NEVER felt like it was lagging or slow, but this is my first tablet and I didn't expect it to run like my Asus Intel I5 laptop, it does boot much faster however.

I don't surf much on my Nook the 1920x1200 @ 9" is too tough on my eyes and I've got a ssd in my desktop so it boots fast enough to look something up quick.
It will however stream a 1080 HD movie from my PC without stuttering, I watched Lucky Number Sleven the other day without a glitch. It plays PVZ, Cut the Rope (too many to count), Angry Birds (too many to count), etc, etc.. for me it's a movie player with light gaming machine. I can surf Reddit with Reddit News Free without lag, so it's also a "toilet reader" kinda thing too.
Maybe my expectations were lower since it was my first tablet, and I only watch movies and play light games. that it feel so nice. I really didn't expect to be blown away by it's abilities, and was more than pleasantly surprised. I'm actually thinking of grabbing a second one since my wife and/or daughter always seems to be on it.

I don't have a Nexus 7 to compare against, but my wife has a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (rooted, running JB from December 2012). The Nook HD+ running CM10.1 (verygreen's build from late July on EMMC) is a better experience. I use her tablet occasionally, and things just aren't as snappy. Plus it doesn't have a micro-sd card to expand storage.
The HD+ has noticeable higher resolution and loads apps faster. Also, for some reason, the RedFin (real estate) app on her Tab will come to a halt after about 15 minutes of use (pictures stop loading, gets the spinning circle). Need to kill the app and restart. On the HD+, it appears to run indefinitely.
I never ran a CM10.1 build on the sd card so I can't comment of the difference in performance.
Hope this helps...
I'm a newbie to the rooting community. Since CM officially started supporting HD+ and has been releasing "nightly" versions, which, as someone earlier stated are literally nightly releases, does it mean the current 2013-08-14 release is not the final one and we can expect more in the coming days?
Also, do the new releases mean more stablitity or fixed glitches? If so, by when can we expect a stable and reliable ROM from CM?
tweeked xperia rom for nook hd+
I have just changed from cm11 to the tweeked xperia Carbon rom . What a difference no fc apps it is extremely smooth and a pleasure to use. Highly recommended.
I use cm11 nightly and just manually strip the heck out of it using an app remover as well as change some folder permissions to disable any logging

This is a quote from a cm forum admin, he explains by tter than I ever could,
"Stable is after all the features desired by the CM devs have been put in and the code has been tested. Snapshots (M builds) are builds done roughly once a month that has had some testing to make sure things are mostly working and released to the public. These are the first builds that allow official bug reports on the project manager site, https://jira.cyanogenmod.org. Nightlies are automated builds that are built, well, every night. There is no human interaction with these and they are largely there just to see if the code added throughout the day will compile. As far as the devs are concerned, there are no bad builds with the nightlies, because if it doesn't build, that is news to let them know that something is screwed up in the code. They don't accept any bug reports on these builds.
Generally, the nightly builds, while extremely experimental and considered bleeding-edge, tend to be relatively stable and mostly bug-free. Many people use the nightlies as their so-called daily-driver, meaning that any bugs that they may have aren't so severe that they want to switch to a different version. For my Nexus 4, as soon as I got it I switched to a nightly build and haven't had any bugs pop up.
Also, all builds are full builds, so if you switch to a nightly, you aren't required to flash every single nightly. You can do it as you see fit. I've been known sometimes to flash a build every day, but then I've gone a month in between updating. Just grab the latest version you want to flash and flash that one. "
I'm new to this but I understand the root & flash process.
I just need some help selecting & locating a rom for my nook hd.
I don't like the Barnes & noble os as it seems a little laggy.
Therefore I'd like to replace if with a proper android rom but I get confused with what the difference between stock & cm10 is.
I just want a stable android rom that's fast for browsing & will play netflix well.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Stock ROM is the default Barnes & Noble operating system, the one you're using now. The term "stock" is used to describe this ROM, as it's the default ROM that comes installed with the Nook.
There are other ROMs available, so that you can customise your Nook. The one I would recommend, so that you can comfortably just use Android on a daily basis without worrying about anything else is CyanogenMod 10.1.3 (stable). This is a stable ROM, and ready for daily use without worrying about anything else. That's CyanogenMod (CM) 10.1.3. Do NOT install CyanogenMod 10.2, as this is a nightly version and not ready for daily use. You can install CM10.2 if you desire, but don't expect it to be perfect; there may be few issues and problems here and there.
Installing CyanogenMod 10.1.3 runs Android version 4.2.2, so that's Jelly Bean. CM10.2 runs Android 4.3 (however, this isn't stable yet). Here's a beginners guide to installing CyanogenMod for your Nook: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500
All the best, if you require any assistance, feel free to reply back.
For what it's worth, performance on my Nook HD+ with CyanogenMod 10.1.3 is absolute garbage. 10x worse than stock B&N ROM, everything lags to hell and back. Even scrolling the damn app menu lags, and I'm constantly seeing "<Insert App Name Here> isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" Everything, even the system idle process. I don't know what to advise as there seems to be no general consensus as to what's the best ROM, everything's under development, the only ROM listed under Original Android Development (which I'm hoping is as close as possible to stock) doesn't work.

My experience wasn't like that at all. While I wouldn't say it was blistering, it did seem on par or better than the Stock ROM. swiping was just a smidge laggy using Nova Prime.
I went on to Carbon and while it has a very nice feature set, it seems a good bit LAGGIER than the previous ROMs. I've been told that SlimBean runs nicely though, so I'm going to play with Carbon a little more but likely go on to that one when I decide to flash again.
I should expand a bit on my experience.
Performance was great the first half day, very speedy, better than stock ROM. By the end of the day it got a little slower than stock, a day or two later it was already pretty bad, noticeably slower, a week later absolutely terrible. It's as if performance degrades with time. I've tried reflashing it and now it sucks from the very beginning. If you find yourself trying CyanogenMod 10.1.3 stable and it still works great a week later, let me know--maybe I need to send mine in for a warranty swap.

Hi, I have been running 10.2 nightly for awhile now and have my tablet running several hours a day surfing Web, watching movies, reading, etc. and I have not had any of the lag or slowdown that you mention. I have had no random reboots or any trouble, I think it performs better than stock rom.

It is not CM10.1.3, it is your device being hit with the need for trim. Your stock would act the same way. Read in the CM10.2 thread.
Sent from my BN NookHD+ using xda premium
Oh my god, you're right! I have to admit I noticed the TRIM issue when I first installed CyanogenMod (hard to miss, it's at the top in big red letters ). I realized it's a perfect match for the performance degradation I'd been seeing, but I dismissed it as a possible cause out of a naive belief that there's no way a manufacturer could ship something that crippled. I thought surely it would have been caught during testing. I also didn't want to read a 100+ page thread to figure out exactly what the issue is when the search was broken. I've taken a few hours and caught up on the thread now... I guess if it looks like cheese, and smells like cheese... it's gotta be cheese.
I've got MAG2GA & 0x000015 memory chips, looks like my only option is to brick it and do a warranty swap I'm curious as to how the other people above reported good experiences; are you guys purposely installing builds with TRIM enabled because you know have good memory chips? Seems to me almost every ROM around here has it purposely disabled. Either that or you've barely used the internal flash memory.
I guess the first recommendation for Kido44 would be to figure out what kind of memory you have, so you know if you can install a kernel with TRIM enabled. The degradation in performance without it is so bad, I want to fling it at the wall. I guess it might not be noticeable right away for you if all you're planning on doing is some light web browsing and Netflix viewing, but you'll run into it at some point and weep. I suspect you're already getting there if the stock ROM is starting to lag a little bit.
As always, thanks to leapinlar for pointing me in the right direction
I've been happy with CM 10.1 for a while, ran really stable without any major hiccups, but the lag got so bad due to the lack of trim that I decided to take the plunge and risk installing 10.2 Milestone 1 with a trim-enabled kernel. I also have a bad emmc chip but I'm willing to risk it.
It's not what I'd recommend for everyone, but that's my experience.

Not sure I understand. Won't it get slow eventually because of the lack of trim?
Sure, but it was still usable after several weeks.
I like Slimrom for the most part and observedly better than CM 10.1.3 on my nook hd+. Seems faster and more responsive, and if you use Puffin browser, it seems like it's 2x faster compared to stock browser (that's just my imo, ymmv). Anyway, I've tested only 3 roms so far, slim, cm, and carbon, so my question is, are there any roms that you guys recommended on the hd+ that can maybe compare with slim? Slim doesn't seem to be officially supported.
I was going through the Kindle fire android development forum and I found a new Kit Kat rom posted over there.
As per my understanding, the main hurdle in Kit Kat development for Nook HD and HD+ is the availability of TI OMAP drivers. (correct me if I am wrong)

Would ^ help development of a Kit Kat based rom for our Nooks ?
Or am I being too optimistic.
I would love to hear what others think about that.
It depends on whether our great developer @verygreen has the time to work on it or not.
Anyway, I am very happy with cm10.2 right now. Everything is fast and smooth. Wifi has been fixed. Trim issue finally settled down.
But more rom would be better

Yup. CM 10 is smooth and stable enough, thanks to the developers here !!
However, it would be nice to have the features of Kitkat on our nooks which would make it lag free ( as per the advertising !! )
This is a bit out of place, but, you mentioned that the trim issue has been settled. Has it been settled for the nooks that have a faulty memory controller as well ?
I looked through the forums but couldn't find a reliable solution to the problem. Could you direct me to the correct thread ?

No if you have a device with faulty memory don't run trim. A few people are doing it but until hey have done it for several months there is not enough data to say this is fixed. If you have plenty of money or an extended warranty feel free to try it out otherwise you could lose your device.
jpisini is Correct.
@chrono_trigger you need to find out if your nook has the faulty chip.
Here is the thread you could read
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2528009
If you have time, read the Cm10.2 thread.. The 05 chip is a faulty one.
if you happen to have the faulty one, do not run trim. I have a 06 chip but I don't run trim or flash trim kernel by myself.
Because my device is fast enough and I could not tell there is any bad lag in daily usage.
If you experience very bad lags wit your nook HD+, you could do a backup, run into CWM and restore the backup. Some people suggest it could be a good alternative to go
@jpisini Yes, I do have the Nook HD+ with the faulty emmc. I run trim only once in a while by flashing CM 10.2 with the lagfix kernel now. I have decided not to migrate to CM 10.2 now since I am pretty happy with CM 10.1.3.
@laofan I would be happy to help in CM 11 development for Nook in anyway I can. I have never developed a rom on my own before. However, I am sure it would be a great learning experience, regardless of its outcome.
Thank you for your replies !!!
laofan said:
It depends on whether our great developer @verygreen has the time to work on it or not.
Anyway, I am very happy with cm10.2 right now. Everything is fast and smooth. Wifi has been fixed. Trim issue finally settled down.
But more rom would be better

To my experience KitKat is possibly the greatest move Google ever did towards better performance. 4.3/CM10.2 supposed to be such a move too, but KitKat (4.4) does not compare it's many time better/faster. Wherever I have installed it (in old devices of mine I mean) it almost universally solved the memory issues for the most part finally making the devices usable (I even have one with less than 300 megs total running great with Kitkat, before it was a lagfest, or shall I say a freakshow).
Our Nooks suffer from low memory (among other things), as long as OMAP chips are bad overclockers we're not going to get more performance out of hardware at least we can get it though software and in all honesty I can't wait for 4.4 to come to our devices, it's one of the slowest 2012 (relatively) high profile devices (our nooks) sadly, kitkat may change this. It can't come any sooner me thinks...

cm10.2 is coming to the stable version soon. cm11 is not far away. I am as excited as you are!
let's see more creativity
Yes, Cm 10.2 stable release is just round the corner.
Cyanogenmod is almost lag-free. However, I do experience some lag in scrolling in applications like playstore and soundcloud etc. Would a Kit kat upgrade make the applications lag free as well ?

I think so.
For now maybe you could try different settings in I/O scheduler and Processor( in Performance settings)
I set cpu governer tointeractive, with frequency 800~1500
I/O is deadline

Thanks for the tip !! It does make my Nook function smmothly in general. However, the lag in the mentioned applications is still present. Perhaps that has something to do with the applications themselves.
However, what is the impact of setting the minimum frequency at 800 Mhz on the battery backup ?
@chrono_trigger
maybe it would consume more battery drain on 800 than lower ones, but I could hardly notice it on my device.
I usually charge it over night, while most of the time it could last two days with medium usage.
You could also try turn down your screen brightness , and if not in use turn off wifi. They are using much mooooooooore battery then the 800 cpu.
All right !!
I also would love 4.4 on the nook HD to go with my nexus 5. I've been spoiled now and may dump it for a nexus 7 otherwise...

I can hardly wait! I've got KK on my Atrix HD and it finally made it usable memory wise. I need the same on my Nook, lag pisses me off to no end and I want immersive mode with this beautiful screen. Immersive mode is probably my favorite feature.
Hello,
Nice to see an active community for the Nook HD+. I'm seeing them here in the UK for £70-80 refurbished and wondered if it's still worth buying one? I'm most specifically looking for a tablet that can comfortably display sheet music in portrait orientation (I will never get an iPad, it's Android all the way for me). The Nook HD+ still seems to be one of the only larger screened Android tabs with a comfortable display ratio for portrait, aside from the Nexus 9, but that is way expensive for my budget.
Anyone comment on the above? I'm particularly interested if you have used a Nook HD+ to display sheet music successfully. Also, anyone think there is a better large screen tab for under £100 at the moment? Obviously the cons of the Nook HD+ are the propriety charger, lack of cameras (thought that really isn't an issue for me) and lack of GPS and the other things taken for granted on other tabs. But I can't seem to find anything under £100 that comes close to the Nook's display. 9" full HD is pretty impressive for that price. Everything else I've seen has really poor resolution, or a smaller screen (or both).
The large circa 2000x1200 display of the nook is good so I think you have the best value for your use, as the other weakness ie procesor and graphics accellertion won't effect your music.
I use my look for web reading, comics and pdf manual reading and its excellant for that.
Just be aware that the Nook OS is 3 generations behind and likely won't support many recently written apps. To make it fully functional you'll have to install a custom ROM. If you do that it's probably the best value in an Android tablet.

Yup, definitely wouldn't consider it without CM11, but I can't find anything else that comes close to matching the screen size and quality for £80. My finger is hovering over the payment button... [emoji2]

+1.
The Nook HD+ running CM11 is my favorite amongst all my tablets which include the Google Nexus and Samsung Note. Prior to the HD+my favorite tablet was the Nook Tablet running CM10/11. It's too bad that BN got out of the tablet hardware business.

Great, you've sold me.
Next question is, which is the most stable, CM10 final stable build, CM11 (and if so, the latest nightly or the M12 snapshot) or SlimKat? I use SlimKat on my Galaxy S4 and love it's layout and features. I've posted a question on the SlimKat thread here, as 9.0 is the latest stable but the build for the Nook seems to be 8.12...

Here are some data points for you. My wife has the HD+ and runs 10.1.3. She mostly surfs the web and watches movies but will occasionally look at Yelp or Facebook and run a few other apps. I have an HD which was running 10.2.1 until yesterday. I had no issues on 10.2.1. Yesterday I installed CM11 snapshot M12. I have only used email, Chrome, FB and a weather app. So far, so good. The only hiccup installing CM11 was that I couldn't backup to or install from the external SD card. Had to do both from internal storage but other than that it went smoothly.
Thanks guys. I'm think gonna start on CM11 M12, prefer to be on KitKat. I saw a YouTube video saying bluetooth causes lag on CM11, is this still the case? And is there the same problem on CM11?
Personally, a custom CM10.2.1 (Android 4.3) build by @Jon Lee has been exceptionally stable for me with F2FS for /data and /cache partitions. No lag, no bugs, extreme stability and exceptional battery life.

Can anyone give me a summary as to why F2FS is better than Ext4? I'd never heard of F2FS before I started looking on here for Nook HD+ advice.

Well, I've gone for the latest M12 snapshot of CM11 with ext4 and ART. Haven't played too much so far, but very happy with the Nook HD+ overall. The screen is fantastic! Perfect for my main usage as a sheet music display (we make so many tweaks in rehearsals I was ripping through paper in no time! 9" 3:2 is just about big enough to read in portrait mode and this way we only have to print right before a gig. Savin' me some trees!)
Thanks for everybody's advice.
trying to install 4.3 or higher so new health watch will work. There is so many versions I am confused (which is easy to do) what IS CM 10.2 ? is this the version I need or do I need to use something else and what is the best version of Roms to use. I hope this is not too confusing if so it is because I am confused. Would some one please help me out.
cutting to the chase:
I need 4.3 or higher on my nook HD+.
Thanks

New age electronics a little fuzzy for me. The install for dummies has the cm11 file site closed.
Is there a newbie install guide for the most stable rom install ? Sorry if my terminology is incorrect. I would like to use a site that has all of the parts needed listed and can be down loaded. I need at least 4.3 or higher. As you can tell I am very new at this and would appreciate any help.
From reading yesterday it looks like cm 10.1.3 is the most stable or is there anew one on the scene.
Careful one

I see that you still prefer 10.1.3, leapinlar, just curious as to why. I mean I ask because I know 4.4 brings things that should be useful especially TRIM for our older NHD hardware which it should certainly benefit from. I just got an 8GB NHD (I have a 32GB microSD for expansion as well) from a pawn shop several hours ago for $10 (had 2.1 on it, then upgraded to 2.2.1 and it seems to work fine overall) and it's got no issues. My Wife and I communicate using YIM (Yahoo Instant Messenger) and that won't work on the NHD (it's a Yahoo issue, not the NHD) so we're migrating over to using Hangouts which is fine as well.
But now that we have two NHDs I can goof off with mine. She's had one for a few years that I get to play with on occasion, I put CM11 on it a long time ago and it's been fine but tonight I made a backup of mine after a complete de-registration (from the previous owner) so it was clean as a whistle, then I simply restored that backup to hers so now we have to "almost" factory-fresh 2.2.1 NHDs to work with.
I remember when we first got the NHD back in late 2013 the stock software was crap and laggy which is why I pushed CM on it as soon as I could (CM10, then later on CM11). Obviously I want to eek out the best performance I can from this device even in spite of the age so, again, I'm curious to why you prefer 10.1.3 - I'm at a point right now where I'd like to install a custom ROM since I can do more experimentation with my NHD that I just got for $10 than the Wife's, so I'm just "on the market" one could say to see what the options are.
I can't tolerate Lollipop so I won't be going anywhere near Android 5.x or CM12 for any reason; I prefer Android 4.4.x at this point but even after all this time CM still doesn't have a stable CM11 build and at this point I doubt it'll ever happen so, since 10.1.3 appears as a stable option I'm considering it.
I'm guessing you run your 10.1.3 from the eMMC and not SD card, but I don't think I've ever seen you say which way you do things. And just to ask: any issues on your NHD with 10.1.3 that you'd care to mention, anything at all? Everything runs smooth and great, etc? Do you use a custom kernel with any tweaks/governors/etc? If you can answer here, awesome, if not that's fine, perhaps the info is someplace buried in another thread which I need to look for.
You've got vastly more experience with the NHD than I do and your guides and your assistance with these devices (and the Nook Color and Tablet as well) are invaluable resources here so thanks for your continuing efforts.
I'm just looking to get the best performance/battery life/etc from this Nook HD, like most anyone I suppose, so any suggestions are very welcome, indeed.

I prefer 10.1.3 because I have never had one issue with it. I tried 10.2 while it was still in nightlies and had issues so moved back. Now that 10.2.1 is stable it may be ok. I tried Jon Lee's 10.2 with the tweaked kernel and found it unstable.
And I do run from emmc, but have run from SD with no issues using a good SD.
I recommend against 11 for the HD+ for the very reason you tout it, TRIM. I have seen a lot of HD+ get bricked by TRIM even though the kernel is supposed to be fixed to prevent that. It is just certain models of HD+, others seem safe. I have not heard of any HD's getting bricked though.

Just tried CM11 (the 8-13 Nightly) and was somewhat disappointed in some aspects; I have a bunch of content on the Google Play Movies & TV side of things and that app won't play any videos at all on CM11, not sure what the issue is and I'm not interested in bothering with it so I'm rolling back to pure stock 2.2.1 for the time being.
I most likely will give 10.1.3 a shot, it can't hurt I suppose and I figure it'll be pretty snappy all around.
Any idea if there are any custom kernels that might function on that (meaning 10.1.3) to allow for more options for tweaking things (governors and I/O, etc)? I'll do more research but for now as stated I'll stick with pure stock since it seems to work ok.
Thanks for the response...
