When i put the code on the Motorola website it says my device isnt qualified. Whats the problem? I asked customer service and they said its because i didnt have a developer edition. I know this isnt the case. Thats just stupid.

I did. I followed QBking77's video. Did all that stuff.
Same Issue...
Same thing happened to me with a 32GB Sprint Moto X that I just received two days ago. I have already used the Motorola website to unlock a 16GB model bought directly from Sprint, and I also used it to unlock a 32GB Sprint model that I bought from the MotoMaker site a month ago...but this Moto X that came two days ago (bought from MotoMaker during the $150 off promotions) is showing the same "device not eligible for bootloader unlocking" message that is mentioned in the OP. I have read that this has happened to a few folks, and might be due to Motorola not having that specific phone (IMEI) and/or unlocking code added to the system yet, especially if you just received it? (In other words, some who have received that message have later been able to unlock, they just had to wait for some period of time?) If that is the case, I would imagine that it would be more common right now with the flood of Moto X's that they had to crank out after the $150.00 off promotions.
Who knows...hopefully with the passage of time you will be able to unlock eventually.
Cheers,
VegasRooted
No. I also followed qbking and it didn't work because his method gives you two spaces. Follow Motorola's instructions and you'll be good. That's what happened to me.

Mine did the same when I first got it, then just worked the next day. Just keep trying.

Have they specifically said its not allowed or have they just not added them to the unlockable database yet? I was told it can take some time for them to add them to the database. Also, the unlocking website had problems yesterday and wouldn't unlock any phones period.

The Motorola website says its supported so I'd post on the official Motorola forum and ask for them to look into it.
I just got my motomaker T-Mobile device and I can't unlock the bootloader. That is the only reason I bought the t-mobile version. I think motorola wants us to be stuck with the stupid black and white device.
Ok I thought it was just me but after reading this thread I know it's not. I just got my motomaker tmobile moto x today and no dice on the bootloader unlock. Got on the phone with Motorola support and they are clueless when it comes to the bootloader. I don't get what the difference would be between a colored one and black/white one that would cause any sort of differentiation on the bootloaders.

They will likely be in two different categories so I'm thinking they just haven't got around to confirming that but I would like to find out before the end of my return window. Support does seem pretty clueless.
different model number?
Can anyone confirm the model number for the T-Mobile MotoMaker version and the Dev Edition version? I thought they were one and the same which is why I went with the MotoMaker version...
T-mobile before motomaker was XT1053 - same as dev edition - and had unlockable bootloader. Is it different now?
Reading the forums at the motorola website it appears the they need to enter each phone into the system manually. I hope it is only a matter of a few days and then I can unlock.

If you haven't done so already, go post on the Motorola forums.
I, for one, will be returning my T-Mobile Moto Maker if I can't unlock the bootloader by the time my return period is up.

Hey! Anyone else with a Rogers xt1058 get device not eligible to unlock bootloader on the Motorola site? I've read about these issues... but doesn't seem to be common to rogers versions. I have messaged Motorola support... Which I'm sure will be a slow process. Lol
Wonder if how I got it has anything to do with it? I bought it off a guy who says he won it at work...a cell shop. It was still wrapped in box. I unlocked it to work on Telus and all is fine. Great phone.
Could any part of that story ...buying it from a guy, not in a store...or unlocking it for telus...have to do with the bootloader unlocking issues?
Its never been on the Rogers network either.
I am not too interested in flashing Roms...mostly just want root. And preferably custom recovery...which I need an unlocked boot loader for. No way am I messing with much without a nandroid backup. Lol
I see you can maybe root at least... But I'm no rookie, and the instructions still seem like a handful. I'm more Samsung experienced. So not a wiz with adb.....fastboot and stuff. I've used them a bit on my N7...but not much.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I've had the error with a Rogers phone, the unlock server was having issues at the time and they resolved it the next day. Are you 100% sure it is a Rogers phone? You can verify with the software version.

Assuming that's the rogers version, I am wondering how he got it...prize..or some other way....if it not being on Rogers ever...cause I unlocked it...if that plays into it at all.
I'll definitely try the Motorola site when I'm home tonight again...and keep trying until I hear from Motorola support.
I suppose if it is a US version that can't be boot loader unlocked...I'll have to figure out the root method and live with that.
Thanks!
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...
I did put in Rogers when I carrier unlocked it... If that means anything.
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...
Yep, its a Rogers phone. The sim unlocking portion will have nothing to do with the bootloader unlock. Try again tonight, be sure to remove the spaces in the key when after you've pasted it into the Motorola website. It will have 4 or maybe 5 of them after the cut and paste that need to be removed. When it didn't work for me several other people had posted about it the same day. I also posted on the official Motorola forums and told them the server was broken, someone passed the message to the correct person and the next day it worked fine.
Yeah, I'm sure I read your forum posts there. Lol
I am definitely going to try over and over or until I hear from Motorola. My gut says it's something with my phone... Just cause I haven't read of anyone having an issue right now. Except Mexico or somewhere near there.
Hopefully it was just their site. We'll see.
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...
Yup. Got home from work, tried to unlock bootloader and boom. Done. Their site must have been messed up last night.
Funny story too....got an email back from a lady at Motorola support saying I can unlock my phone for different carriers...on my own....that the Rogers version does not come carrier unlocked. I sent a polite reply saying I didn't ask that....I clearly asked about unlocking the boot loader. It even said that in the email subject line. LOL. Wow.....not gonna count on Motorola support for much in the future.
So...charging phone...then twrp..then titanium backup and I can start tweaking.
Thanks again!

For fun you might want to throw the AT&T or tmobile(retail) 4.4 kitkat on to the phone. Both will work fine.
I plan on flashing whatever I can find for sure. I'll check that out first.
Just seeing what I can mess with first. Did a stock nandroid and after I get everything just right... Another. Then I can play with roms.
The moto xposed module is awesome.
Thanks

not sure what your talking about because if you want to unlock your bootloader you need to do here

scroll down till you see Moto X US / Sprint, USC, TMO then click on unlock and follow the directions

I'm saying when I enter my unlock code at that site, it tells me my device is ineligible, even though the T-Mobile X is most certainly bootloader unlockable. I read other people experienced the same thing and then it worked a few days later.

That is interesting for sure i guess i would give it a couple days and try again.
if you dont won't to wait to root you can use the root for locked bootloaders you will just have to wait till you unlock to install a custom recovery.
I got the same problem. T-mobile Moto X purchased while the Cyber Monday.
I tried to unlock the bootloader. And the system says that "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking.":crying:
When you get the string of numbers and letters while in Fastboot copy and paste them to notepad and remove all spaces then copy and paste it to the Moto site where it asks for your unique code. Hope this helps! I had the same issue and this worked.

After reading the initial post I decided to get my unlock code just to keep it handy as well. Much to my surprise, I too am see a message indicating that my device is not eligible. I have the GSM Unlock MotoX that I bought around January 6th. Lets hope that this is just a temporary situation.
Just got an unlock code! A couple hours ago it said "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking". So try!
P.S. I bought Moto X GSM Unlocked T-Mobile 32GB two weeks ago.
Update: got my unlock code on Sunday night. So took ~2 days from receipt of phone to being unlockable.

I bought my T-Mobile Moto X back in October direct from Motorola. I have had ongoing battery drain issues and as a last ditch effort I figured I would do a factory reset. Since I'm doing that I was going to unlock the bootloader and be ready for root on 4.4.2.
I ran through the motorola bootloader check online 3 times. I've punched in the long code 6 different time and I keep getting told my phone is not able to be unlocked.
Am I missing something? Any idea why I might be having this problem?
I bought T-Mobile for this reason and now it seems moto won't allow it.
Thanks.

If you entered the codes generated by your phone correctly into Moto's web site, then call Moto. Some have found that Moto hasn't entered their phone into the database right yet. It takes anywhere from 24 to 48 hours usually, but since its been months, there is definitely something wrong or missed so calling them will be your best bet.

I just thought I would give a follow up to my post.
I went through level 1,2, and 3 support. I was told it must be a DE phone (even when their own website clearly says different) to unlock. Level 3 finally asked to to post on the Moto X forum as the software engineers monitor it and they would help me.
So now I wait.......

Thanks just posted my issue! also you boot loader people should post in the Motorola forums. It seems to get actual Motorola attention.
I think everybody here already knows this, but the non-DE T-Mobile bootloader is indeed unlockable. I've done it with 4 different T-Mobile Xs. None of which were dev editions.
It's a travesty and it's inexcusable that high level tech support at Motorola would say otherwise. Ridiculous.

Did you remove the spaces between the four lines of the unlock code after pasting?
Hello,
I just recieved my Developer Edition Moto X with black front, white woven back, with words Developer Edition on the back. It's model xt1060 verizon phone.
I follow the steps on motorola's website to unlock the phone no problem.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
I sucesfully enter fastboot, and do the required command to get my device ID.
I paste in my device ID, (the device ID is properly entered.)
Click Can my device be unlocked? and... I get the message "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking"
So I'm 100% sure I have a developer Edition Moto X.
Aren't all Developer edition phones able to unlock bootloader? Anyone else experiencing this and know of a workaround?
Input the following sentence in Google and go to the first link you get:
my device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking
There is a thread on Motorola's forums, but I haven't posted enough here to insert links (forever lurker!)
Looks like the September batch of Dev editions aren't in Moto's database of unlockable devices just yet.

ANd there is a suggestion by one person to use Firefox instead of Chrome. With Chrome he had got the message, and with Firefox it worked.
Btw, I'm just curious did you buy it direct from Moto, or from some place else?
Thanks guys! That thread on motorola's website explained everything. I have emailed Motorola my phone's info and should get an unlock code shortly I hope.
I bought my phone on ebay, new for 220. Can't post the link...
Yeah basically all of those on ebay were a batch that did not get programed right leaving the factory. There are quite a few of us but it seams they are going to fix it, and numerous people have been told they are still warrantied.
At first they were manually giving out unlock codes, but when it became apparent there were as many people needing them as there are they decided they needed a better solution, so we have been waiting for them to come up with one. Not much info given yet but they are working on it and seem intent to fix this.
I also seem to have ran into this issue tonight. Just bought from the same person on ebay you most likely did and I'm getting the same error message. Just posted my info there so hopefully we get our codes soon! If you hear back from moto support let us know! Thanks!
I also grabbed one of those off of eBay for $220 and unlocked it immediately with no issues. I copied everything from the command prompt by right click, select all and control-c and pasted the entire thing into MS Word. I then deleted everything else and pasted the code into the website and the unlock code was sent to my gmail almost instantly.

Oh and mine was an old 2013 build and came with 4.2.2. Lol
I'm still waiting for my Moto X XT1053 I bought from the same seller. Do the GSM unlocked models have the same issue?
One thing to note, their forum post says to wait 24 hours after getting your phone. I think they have some backeed system that requires the phone to be active for 24 hours (thier return window?) to be eligible for an unlock code. Another thing that threw me off was i removed all the spaces in my long ass number code thingy but i left a trailing white space. Triple check that there is no white space before, after, or anywhere in middle of your code. Lastly if you do call motorolla just get them to put you straight to tier two, i spent nearly an hour arguing with some guy on tier one who knew absolutely nothing about the dev edition, unlock keys, or their warranty policy.
**i got the gsm dev unlocked white back for 230$ from that ebay guy, and my key eventually worked after a bunch of failed tries, and a ton of useless time on the phone.

I just got mine to work. Downloaded Firefox and kept pressing the unlock button until it worked. Now I'm unlocked and rooted!
Guys, it can take 24-48 hours after initial activation for the code to generate. Mine took about 24 hrs.
Free storage from Copy:
https://copy.com?r=cScoov
I always request my code before I even activate my phone (Verizon XT1060 Dev Edition). I just open the box, pop out the SIM, boot to fastboot, run the command to get the unique id, paste it in the browser on Motorola's page and get my code in 5 to 10 seconds. I've done 5 phones like this, one of them being earlier today.
Unlock the phone (since it wipes it...why set it up before unlocking), power it off, put my SIM in and go.
For those who didn't read the linked moto thread, The OP was concerning the September 2014 batch that left the factory programed incorrectly, and thus could not be unlocked normally. Follow the links in the early posts and follow the directions to contact Motorola and they will email you your unlock code, I got mine last night.
Seems to have only effected the XT1060 dev editions, probably a mix up where they were programed as regular vzw phones.
I also ran into the same problem for the first week after receiving my phone. I ended up calling Moto in hopes they'd just give me the code. That didn't happen, but the rep told me the phone must be activated on the network (verizon in my case) before your phone "qualifies" for an unlocked bootloader. I activated, made a few test calls, and Moto finally detected my phone as "qualified." Smooth sailing from there
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNPS38z0Xnk
I followed instructions from that video. Really straight forward.
So, got my Moto X today. It's the XT1053 but I also encountered the same problem. Waited a bit and used Firefox. Bootloader unlocked and rooted now. Thanks to the suggestions, I would've panicked. Lol.
Got the phone from the same seller.
