I've noticed recently an issue with my Xperia Z USB port cover cap. It is showing signs of being damaged.
At first, it feels lose and dosn't have that strong closing any more. And recently it started not to close well and shows a bump, not flat with the surface. I always knew this would happen because of all the plug in and out of the charger/microUSB cable.
I wonder if any of you guys has experienced this with the USB or other port's caps. The phone is on warranty so I'm thinking, since this is a waterproof phone, that it should be fixed by Sony. Now I wonder if they will consider this a defect or bad use of the device and charge me for the repair.
What's your experience on this?
I can only confirm that I have the exact same issue.

So how did you fix it? I can find a new cap easily. Even though I have warranty to fix this by Sony I would like to know your procedure.

Ok the only hard thing is to get the cap out of the phone.
You need to go in the small hole over the gap with something thin and stable, then you need to push the cap down and while doing this you need to carefully pull it out. There is a barb at the end which shouldn't get stuck in the phone, so don't pull too much.
It can take a bit up to 15 min but it's worth it. There's no need to sent it in repair becoz the phone's away 2 weeks then.
The input of the new cap is easy and goes itself.

I ordered my XZ the launch week along with the dock... In fact I received the dock before the phone. I also use Airdroid to transfer content to my phone for convenience reasons mainly. So, my usb flap has been opened like 20 times maximum to do some flashtool sessions or emergency charges out of home, and it still closes and feels like brand new.
Definitely after reading threads like this I feel buying the dock was a very, very good idea.
No problem here I have been using both dock and usb since i bought the phone 8 month ago and the cap is still flat.

Normally you don't need anything, you only need to pull carefully.
The thing is you need to know how the flap is build, the barb shows up.
You may need to find out yourself how to do it best.

I've got a set on order and will let everyone know how I did it. I was thinking that a thin sewing pin down the hole on the side the barb was on might do it, if I feel too nervous just pulling, thinking it might snap off.
Please provide step by step pictures! ?

First of all.. I tried every single combinations of roms. From GB to ics. From custom kernel, rom, recovery to originals. Different kinds of original firmwares. It always happens. My device is 13 month old but I lost the bill. So Samsung won't repair it.
The problem is that every minute or two or three the touchscreen doesn't respond for a second and sometimes just a part of the touchscreen react. It's really annoying when I am chatting. While I wrote this it happened 3 times. Any suggestions or ideas to lead me in the right way?
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9001 mit Tapatalk 2
Then it must be a hardware problem -> service? Dont you have any big/deep scratches on the digitizer? Have your SGS been disassembled before?
No dissambling no scratches. Just normal mini scratches that you see if you hold it against strong light
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9001 mit Tapatalk 2
It's definitely a hardware problem. Maybe a bad contact from touchscreen to circuit board.
Somone do know the rights that i have for warranty? Because my Device is 13 month old and its not stolen (I can prove it by letting the police check its IMEI S/N) and every newer device got a 24 month warranty. i got the original package and everything. i only lost the bill because of house moving. Its Samsung Germany. In their terms they say, they need the bill. But come on its a paper, you could easily loose it. I know it is my fault, but i really take care of such things. Everyone moved their house one time and know what could happen to things
If somone got a clue it would be nice, otherwise: my fault..**** happens..sell on ebay as broken....save money for some month... buy new device :crying:
edit: btw.... its has official launched in July 2011, so it can't be 24 month old

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my power button felt different on my Z1. At first I thought it was my imagination, but more and more I was sure something wasnt right.
Last week on the way to work, my colleague who also has a Z1 used my phone to look at something and his first comment was "Whats up with your power button??"
It has no definite feeling when pressing it, its almost impossible to tell if you have pressed it or not, it looks and feels recessed too.
When trying his phone it was exactly as I remembered it to be, when you push it you can feel as response (small click or resistance), on mine there is nothing!
So I contacted Sony Xperia, who were suprised by the described issue. Long story short I have to return the phone to them for a 5 - 7 day turnaround repair.
Anyone else had the same issue? Or even sent their phone back to Sony in the UK? I am a little concerned that once it is prised open to be repaired it will never be the same again! All in all, for the £550 I paid for a premium handset, it is the first one that I have had any hardware issues with.

Mine do not come back yet, I sent it back via warranty 2 weeks ago. I will let you know. Anyway Sony Service have to provide best service for your phone and it should be still under warranty even when the phone come back to you but in which condition this is a mystery for all of us.

I think is needed a experience because you have to take apart all phone and I will suggest to let do this job to Sony. And of curse it will have to be seal again to make the water resistance working again. If you do all of this the warranty will be gone.
An update on mine, it got worse and now has been sent back for warranty repair at Sony, well they use a company called SBE Ltd in the UK
I'm not very impressed to be honest, this is the first phone I've had to return to the manufacturer for repair, this was meant to be a quality product. So there is at least 3 people with the same problem, maybe more who haven't noticed. Potentially there is an issue with the design or button component.
In so cheese off as I have to use a crappy Nokia Lumia 800 Windows phone for the period it is away!
I have been looking at a Nexus 5 or Note 3 as a replacement, selling mine on eventual return from repair..

at first i have rooted my phone so the warranty is already gone..and Because I live in Iran and there is no experienced or official Sony branches to do the stuff i have to pay a lot of money to ordinary people who have the tools for doing it and praying really hard to have my z1 remained water resistance..and another problem is that this button is very well designed and has a good material which it doesnt get gray or orange after a while.for sure the replacement doesnt have the same great quality and thats a failure :|

Ok, but if the button still working I think is not worth to open it and risk much more, BTW is not the button problem but the hardware component under the button.
Z1 button issue
I'm from India and have the same problem with the button. I bought Z1 around October last year. The button started getting worse gradually from the beginning of January, and now there's absolutely no feedback on pressing. It almost feels as if there's a spring under the button.
If anyone has given the phone for repairs to Sony for this issue, please reply. I'm also worried about the waterproofing and other possible damage to the device, specially given the fact that it's got a non-removable back so opening up the device might be a mess.
I've seen a video on YouTube about the z
As far as the Z is concerned there are about 4 screws and the rest is glued. Front- and backside.
Now, you can guess if the phone is still waterproof after putting it back together.
Even with skilled techs and the appropriate equipment I highly doubt it.
Here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPN930fohyo&feature=youtu.be
It's a German video but I think the pictures speak for themselves.
Best thing you could do is to ask the repair center for a guarantee on wich you can depend on (written of course)

It can be forever if you use the device properly and you you keep in mind to don't use the flaps a lot and keep them clean. Flaps like that can do great job for 2 years without problem but time and natural degradation is on they way, so if you will replace the flaps after this time is fine to me. But if you keep leaving the phone in you car on dashdoard under the sun all the time clearly this can compromise the assembly and the sealing of the phone. So practically depend of how you use your phone.

Yes , opening the phone for a button will be a mess and maybe is not covered by warranty so if the button working well I will not be worry about it. The day when it will not work then you will get the new button.

I started this thread, it is definitely a problem and you should get it repaired. Mine was sent back and now has been repaired, not very impressive for a "premium" handset!
It was only away for just over a week.

I will tell you this next week.
The usb port wasn't working so i replaced it with the spare part. After that the mic stopped working properly. During phone calls, the other end doesn't hear anything at all. I tested it with sound recorder and found that if I put my mouth over the mic output it would recognize that there's a voice.
Any ideas on what I can do?
Was it the correct spare part?

That's your problem then. Only if you use an original part with the same revision number will you not get into problems.
Take out your current part and check the REV. Number on it
Buy the two other boards that have a different revision (ex. if your current part is 0.8 then buy 1.0 and 1.1(or 1.2)). Make sure you get an original part and best not from China.
To know which board works the best then check the phone signal during each test, check the microphone and of course the usb.
Hope that helps, if you have any questions then just ask.

Hi All,
I'm new here because of my Z3+ problem
Long story short one day charging just stopped working and after replecing mainn usb flex this is what happend and I'cant do anything
youtube.com/watch?v=pe05idRq1i8
I've sent it to sony (UK) under warranty and they wanted to charge 350 pounds because that little frame corner plastic bit came off like a year before that literally having no netative effect on usage of the phone and they stated that this voided warranty.. I tried to fix it my self like but I'm stuck here.. Just please have a look maybe you'd know how this problem can be solved.
Thank you!
Any one? please....
Seriously, not even one person knows what th eproblem might be?
Your video is not available anymore. And what exactly did you do with the USB flex. If it's something that has been modified hardware wise, nobody here can really help you with that. Maybe the flex cable is loose, see if you have connected it correctly and tightly. Maybe it's just your USB cable broken.
I can not help you much since I can't imaging properly what is broken on your device.

Hello!
I own the P9 since several month, but my usb-c calbe suddendly started to get loose and fell out very easy (but charged like normal) , so I bought 2 new one Amazon, with the same issue. A friend of mine also got the P9 with the same problem.
So my question is, is it the charging port or the cheap cables? I know how to change the port, but before I will do that I want to know if someone has the same problems as me? :/
I've never had an issue with mine regardless of which cable I use. I would say it is the port. Only a guess though.

Well it is also my guess too, but also a friend of mine has the same problem.. that is the thing that confuses me the most.. can u try something for me? Can u possibly put the usb-c connector into your phone and shake it a litte bit on the calbe, does it fall of? (Please try this on your bed or on somewhere where your phone can t get damaged )
Cause mine always falls from the connector.. my phone must lie down on a flat surface, without any shaking.
Do u even know a good company where i can buy a replecement parts? (German/Austria)
Just had a quick try for you. Whilst there is a bit of movement up and down on the port it doesn't come loose. When I put in any cable there is a bit of a click that keeps it secure. As for parts, I would give eBay a try.
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Thank you very much!
Well I could manage to finde some, but I don't know, if I can trust the sellers.
With shipping I found one for about 21€ , du you think it is too much?
On Amazon I also found one for about 15€, but there is no one who can tell me if it is really the right one. :/
I know how it should look like, but i don not know the difference in the sice (P9lite & P9+).
What would you do?
With eBay I tend not to purchase off anyone that has less than 95% feedback. Can't say if that is expensive or not unfortunately. I would take the one from Amazon with it being cheaper, just go off the reviews on Amazon. I don't think there is any difference with the charging port between the different models.
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
In my phone the USB-C Cabel falls out to, but only sometimes. Other times it sits rock solid. I think it could be independent from phone to phone. You could try cleaning it with air if there is dust inside.
Well on Amazon there are no reviews for this product. :/
Unfortuately I really don't trust ebay.
My cable falls out with every single move. If I'm lying on my bed, watching some movies -> it falls out really easy wihtout touching or shaking the device. :/
The real hard question is.. is it the port or the cable. Once i got a calbe from a company called "Anker" it cost about 10€ and it was fitting perfect. (Unfortunately my dog killed it )
I guess I ll buy a new one from the same company and will try it, if not.. well then i have to open my phone anyway.
So guys, thanks for your great support, have a nice time!
