Hey guys!
If i had a branded Xperia Z1, couldn't I just flash a generic .ftf file to debrand it?

To get rid of some bloat? Yes. To unlock bootloader? Not if it's locked by carrier.

Type *#*#7378423#*#* and check what saying Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes or No. If it's Yes you can unlock it and install Custom Kernels. If it's No you cannot Unlock it, ever. This is not Sim Unlock, and to do that you have to pay for it. Anyway with Locked Bootlader you can Root, Install Recovery and Unbrand your phone just Flashing Generic Unbranded FTF via Flashtool and you are fine.

BTW I said what he have to do as well in the case of Unbranding.

I don't think there is currently a way to do that. If you were to flash an unbranded firmware onto the phone would that allow you to unlock the bootloader (allowing installation of CWM)? I can't unlock my bootloader due to my PC being broken.

I'm waiting for a solution as well. it should not be that hard as they have a solution for the xperia s with a locked bootloader.
maybe some very wise and helpful dev can port cwm for us xperia t owners with locked bootloaders.

Flashing unbranded firmware will not allow you to unlock the bootloader if you currently cannot unlock it.
Well, no promises of any kind, but there is that one user which claims that after updating to 3.195 the bootloader status changed from non-unlockable to unlockable.
I have to stress out, I cannot confirm nor explain this and I do not propose that anybody tries this.
But we all know where this is going, right...? Sic...

You can ask, but I bet they say no.
up to date, any method to unlock it?
Seriously?
I also have this problem, the boot loader is locked and I need to install the recovery. Prompt really working bootloader unlock method, none of the methods I did not ride. Through the website Sony have an error occurs, full of requests to install the update file, it weighs 1.5 gigabytes. I do not have as much Internet traffic to download it.
Currenty is possible if you are both rooted and in FW 303. Try this.

[Q] Bravia Engine and Unlocked BL

Hi,
I'm new to this whole Android thing, recently bought an Xperia T and looking to have a fiddle about with it.
My question is, I've read on these forums that if I unlock the bootloader, Bravia Engine will no longer work because I lose DRM. But if I unlock it, mess about with some custom ROMs, then relock the BL and update via Sony PC Companion, will Bravia work again?
Also, can I just flash any stock .ftf to re-lock the bootloader or does it have to be one to specifically re-lock?
I guess what I want to know is aside from voiding the warranty, will unlocking the BL do anything permanent and non-reversible to my phone?
thanks

Hmm, so just unlocking the bootloader screws up Bravia and means I might never get it working properly again even if I re-lock and return to stock firmware?
Guess I'll keep it locked for now, thanks
Rooting has no effect on it though, right?

Yes, sweetie, yes. Root itself does NOT threat your Bravia Engine. Its all start when you unlock your bootloader.

[Q] How to check if the bootloader is unlocked.

Hi there.
After i unlocked* the bootloader of my phone i got stuck in a bootloop, then i had to flash the TFT all over again...
The problem is that i don't know if the phone is already with bootloader unlocked or not...
how can i check it?
I was thinking on trying to do the unlock steps again, but i'm scared of being trapped on another bootloop...
Is there a way to check if the bootloader is already unlocked?
PS: The bootloader unlock allowed is yes.
thanks you guys.
Flash doom kernel via fastboot with this command:
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
If you get an error than your bootloader is not unlocked.
You can flash back to stock kernel with flashtool, flash the kernel separately.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
but if i got that error and confirm that the bootloader is locked, is there any chance to harm the phone? or need to flash the TFT again, etc etc
use flashtool to tell you
Another more easy approach .
When bootloader unlock allowed says yes and be2 is working in Album, then it is still locked and you can start the unlock steps again.
How can i use flashtool to tell me?
@DevShaft
Before i could see in a flash the bravia engine working on pictures. There was a little delay... Now i can't see it.
Probably the bootloader is unlock.
If i try to install Doom's kernel via recovery and the bootloader is LOCKED, can it do any harm? thanks guys

I unlocked my Xperia Z and in Service Mode I can see 'Bootloader unlocked: Yes'.
Now my phone is running on latest C6603 firmware and DooM Kernel.
To my surprise, BE2 still works! Music info download still works! TrackID still works!:victory:
But not picture enhancement in album right? Hope you backed up TA partition before unlocking
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
im surprised at how this 'check bootloader is unlocked already or not' thread is confusing.
by the previous post, there is two 2 ways
1. try to flash doomlords kernel via fastboot, and if it doesnt flash means its NOT unlocked.
2. flashtool.
however the 2. flashtool method is very vague.. dont think anyone elaborated it.
So my same query is that if some error occurs after trying to unlock bootloader, and have reverted back to the stock FTF rom in original working state.
How do one check to see if my bootloader is unlocked or not?
whats the best easiest method???
Thank you!
just type in *#*#7378423#*#*
Go to Service Info > Configuration
And check the Rooting Status
If its Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes/No, then its not unlocked.
And if its Bootloader unlocked:Yes, then its unlocked.
Thanks

That just tells you weather you can unlock your bootloader via the command / flashtool e.g. If you carrier has locked your phone
On a unlocked bootloader the BE2 engine still works on videos ect just not pictures.
All I would do Is flash doom kernel or advanced stock kernel via flashtool (Click on lightning bolt /fast boot / click on put device in fastboot via adb now phone will enter fastboot then select kernel to flash which is in the middle on the pop up screen and then flash if it will take around 0 . 5 seconds ) if it fails then you bootloader is locked due to it cannot complete the command if is successful then it's unlocked and you can flash custom kernels take about 2 mins to do all in all

[Q] Bravia Engine - Is it worth it?

Hi, my bootloader is suddenly unlockable since the .244 firmware update from Sony. So my question is this: is it worth losing the Bravia Engine by unlocking my bootloader? Is the Bravia Engine really a feature worth having on the XZ and are there any substitutes?

Sad news :crying: thanks. XperienceD what's your take on Bravia anyway? Is it worth keeping a locked bootloader for Bravia Engine?
I unlocked my bootloader as soon as I got my phone. I would rather have an unlocked bootloader so I have the ability to flash custom roms and kernels then seen the colours a little brighter when watching videos and viewing pictures.

Yeah well the biggest downside to locked bootloader is no chance of AOSP roms :crying: luckily most of the Xperia's UI is pretty cool, particularly the Honami email, messaging and contacts. So after XperienceD's news about bootloader being locked if the handset came from a carrier, I can live with it for now... gonna try unlock it anyway

I'd prefer to keep it but would happily sacrifice it for the ability to be able to unlock my BL. You can try for nothing but if it does come from a carrier then I've yet to see anyone who has reported this change in status then go on to unlock it. I'll never have another Phone from a carrier that's for sure.
Is it worth?
Simply. Yes. That's my opinion.
Btw, I unlocked bootloader and I still have BE2, all these DRM keys. Is it normal?
Seems http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ is intermittently down tonight loaded the web page earlier but can't load it now. Will check it out tomorrow, my phone is from Vodacom so it's a carrier phone.. this will be an interesting test. Is it normal for Sonymobile website to be down? "The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later." Poor show if it is..

It worked, unlocked my bootloader with a carrier issued handset I bought my phone from a dude when it was three months old. It came from Vodacom. It had the Vodafone logo splash screen when booting from stock and he showed me a photo of the registration screen at Vodacom when he picked it up. So I assume it was a carrier issued handset. Anyway, seems all is well now :highfive:

Hey XperienceD, dunno how this happened. My bootloader changed from a status of unlock not allowed to unlock allowed after I flashed .244. Now I managed to unlock the bootloader, and it's a carrier phone from Vodacom in South Africa. Strange but true :victory:

Ok
The question is
What happened if i choose the rong option
I mean i have unlock bootloader device and i choose lb when i inistall the rom
Nothing when you have a unlocked bootloader you are free in terms of flashing.
But when your on a locked bootloader and flash a Rom that requires a UB you will may get a bootloop, because the most UB have inside a custom kernel which will not get flashed or in the worst case you will just have a bootloop
