I took my phone out to take a picture and it took fine, but immediately after there was an artifact on them preview screen. I took another picture and now there is definitely something wrong with the camera (seen in top right). I have never dropped my phone or put in a position to be damaged. Any ideas???

I've tried cleaning it multiple times with a microfiber cloth and can't get the spot to even move so I'm not sure if that is the problem It is just strange how it was fine one picture and with no change in conditions it has this problem.
Have you rebooted? Try force stopping the camera app and clearing the app data. Just a thought.

Just tried it and it didn't help. I really don't think it is a software problem, unfortunately. I'm going to see if I can remove the backing of the phone to get a better look at the lens.
Yikes.
Good luck!

I think that is what I'm going to do after looking at the instructions for removing the backing. I wonder if it is even something wrong with the camera ribbon cable.

Where are some instructions on how to use it? I have gone to my wits end to get a decent picture and it just doesn't make a bit of sense.

hold the shutter button and it will focus... what else could possibly be your problem?
I put my Bionic in the microwave for 2 minutes and now it takes a perfect picture every time and FAST!
JK, don't do it. Wait for Moto to release an update.

I stand corrected... if you are in low light, click the settings button then the A - change it to the hand picture. Try manually.
That's a little bit better...
Still get that glow of monitors around me, but I guess that's just a limitation of the CCD...

Im on the other side of the fence... I hate the thunderbolt camera lol
The autofocus bothers the hell out of me. When it does what it is supposed to, its wonderful. Otherwise I just plain want to throw the phone.
Here is a video I shot, and if you notice, the thing is focusing throughout.....kind of irritating, even tho I am happy with the quality.

yeah i am VERY disappointed in the camera quality. I do like the video though. The snaps are meh.
i thought the pictures i took so far with the camera came out great. if youtr holding the camera every time you move your hand, it will try to refocus the image. with your skates, id think that with the flashing lights the sensor sees that as movement and tries to refocus.

Crack in the lens cover?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
its the gods!
Get it replaced. Seems like an issue with the magic eye of the lens. It's probably damaged or a dirt got inside your phone and made it's way to the eye.
Or could you try to lightly tap the phone in your palm? It might get off the eye also but of course it's still there inside so kinda annoying.

I do, but they are doing a warranty exchange. Should have the new one tomorrow.
Now we know that we cannot put our names on the back of the phone; nor can we upload the images we want and have it color our MOTO X (though the latter part was never the original concept...but should be . What makes you still want to buy MOTO X?
I just got mine this afternoon. After playing with it only for a couple of hours, I can say that once I get used to the touchless control, I will not be able to live without it. Just now I pick up my Nexus 4 and start talking to her with "Ok google now" and saw no response and getting frustrated
Active Notifications.
That is all.
everything about this phone other than its price and camera quality (which hopefully is resolved with an update much like the htc one)
Touchless Controls hands down.

I went to the store to play with the X and I was really impressed by the twisting the wrist motion to launch the camera. It was super easy and I have no idea why the reviewers found it so hard to launch it. I'd say I had a 100% success rate.
The problem, for me at least, is not how to launch the camera...but after launching the camera the quality of the photo is not good.
Personally I the touchless control is the winner for me, but active notifications comes in a very close second.
All are pretty ones!
Can we see it in Europe soon...

other than all tech details, I really like the idea of customizing the phone and making it truely unique
After actually using the phone, active notifications and the battery are great for usage. The motomaker is great when it comes to selling the phone.

The Design. Always liked android but hated these oversized form factors with no regard for one handed usability. Big screen without big phone, finally a decent design!

I don't think they push anything to our phones to change the boot animation. I believe they all come preinstalled and change out automatically according to preset calendar dates.

Obviously I could be wrong, but I thought the winter themed boot animation was packaged in with the touchless control update?
All I know is that Motorola SLPC Service was going nuts all yesterday evening and all last night. My MX struggled to sleep (and it's a great sleeper) even with reboots. Very strange.

Moodles.apk (com.motorola.moodles) is what holds the images and animations I believe. Not sure how/when this runs or updates. But, you could disable in settings.
I also found that the Moto G has this as an app in Google Play (Motorola Boot Services). Not sure why the X doesn't.
I thought the winter themed boot animation was included with the 4.4 release for the Moto X. Those with 4.2.2 did not get the updated animation.
For the Moto G though they did include it in a play store update.

It seems like this is a common issue with no other fix that I can find besides taking it to Sprint. I will post if I find any additional solutions.
Found a fix by searching Google and it really
worked, a drop of water and scrape the lens with the corner of a credit card.

Mine got foggy too. Keep mine in a case and in my front pocket without anything else. Still got all scratched up. Read HTC has put a coating on the lenses for what ever reason.
I placed a small dab of toothpaste with an even smaller dab of water and rubbed on the lens very lightly. First time almost got it 100%, second time did it. Pulled the coating off nicely. Pictures are really clear again.
I've also read rubbing alcohol and Q-tips will do the trick.
Sweet I'm not crazy then it does have a coating on it
