I've browsed this forum for a bit now, and the mention of android scripts that can be found in the Android Software and Hacking section are almost never mentioned. Has anyone installed any of these scripts, and how do they feel? I personally have PurePerformances X Gold edition installed and I'm loving it. My benchmark score and overall feeling of my phone has gone up

Hey all,
I've searched around and had no luck, so figured I'd ask directly
After bouncing between various roms, most recently cyanogen 6.12, I have been feeling like the low amount of memory on the droid is not considered with modern day apps. Are there any roms which have an emphasis on being minimalist and emphasize performance above glitter and features? I'm hoping to hold out for a Galaxy S II (USA - Verizon user here), but my droid is tragically slow. It improved since removing rom manager for whatever reason, and I have already moved all the apps I can to my SDcard, and I use clearcache.
Not really sure what else to do besides perhaps try to find another rom entirely. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated =)
Cheers

I think you might be able to try supercharging your Droid, zeppelinrox's thread explains it all.

So I recently bought the og droid of ebay. I plan to use it as a tinker device and a possible media device. I was wondering what's the best kernel/rom for the droid.
So if you could respond with a smooth rom/kernel that would be great!
Thx
Also what is a safe overclock? 1.0 ghz?
I personally prefer the 2.3 cyanogenmod based roms for the OG; good amount of customization with a fairly smooth and stable feel. *
Lately though I've been testing out kfazz's 4.1 rom for the OG which is quite smooth for being on a single-core ~1GHz device.
In terms of overclocking, you can safely OC up to 1.2GHz (1.3 is obtainable but a lot of OG's become quite unstable at this speed, especially with the performance governor). Chevyno1 has couple nice kernels for the droid OG.*
Hope this helps and welcome to the OG family =) had mine since March 2010 and it's still kickin'.
*I apologize for the lack of urls, but I don't have perms to post outside links yet =(
-cyanogenmod for droid OG can be downloaded from their site
-chevyno1's list of OG kernels is on the AndroidForums (quick google search should pull that right up)
Thank you.
I tried chevyno1 kernel but in get a message that my nand needs to be off? Any idea?

Huh, I looked into it (guessing that you're referring to s-off) and it looks like it's a HTC phone specific thing. Couldn't find any documentation of this issue on the droid og (or milestone) and I've never run into this problem with my droid.
Sorry I couldn't help you with this one =(
Thanks for your help. I figured it out by formating my /system. Hehe probably should have done that before. Oh well.
Hi all. I just got Milestone real cheap from a friend. With 550MHz cpu and original rom it felt a bit sluggish. Also my friend said there's no way to change phone's language to Finnish since Motorola has provided only some languages.
Well I now have CyanogenMod 7.2.2 (Android 2.3.7), 1 GHz cpu, Finnish as the system language and also hw keyboard multipress for Finnish letters. This is great, even better than I expected! Thanks to all the developers.
So the system requirements for Kitkat have been reduced. considering how JB runs somewhat okay-ish on the OG Droid, I'm optimistic it will run even better.
I'm running Gingerbread right now because of how awesomely stable it is, but I'm thinking that Kitkat could be a legit upgrade for my Droid. Are you looking forward to kitkat?
This can also be bumped when a build is released, to discuss general performance.

A major hurdle for the Droid for running KitKat stably is the same problem that plagues ICS for the Droid is that Ti stopped properly OMAP3430 so the drivers to make things run properly don't really exist. Drivers are the main reason KitKat for the Droid besides condescending the file system to fit on it's ROM memory will be difficult to become stable. This being said it's definitely going to be a fun project to try.
This would be interesting to see. Neat to see some activity here for the og. I keep one around for wifi and recording tunein
I'm hoping somebody gives it a try. I keep my DROID around for a wifi media device and as a MyTracks recorder on my motorcycle rides.
Now that my Gnex has a suitably stable and bug free Kitkat Rom (thanks to Cyanogenmod 11 and Shiny Roms) is anyone working on KitKat for Sholes? Pretty please! Honestly I was never satisfied with Jellybean Sholes and went back to ICS. But KitKat would be a blast, if just for the bragging rights.

So I unlocked my RW moto x and tried flashing a custom rom and surprise surprise there isn't a rom that supports RW yet.
So I was wondering if it would be possible to make a sort of 'patch' for other roms in general that installs the apks need to run a phone on RW. I took a look at a stock RW rooted rom and tried to install a few apks myself, the main RW app installed but wouldn't activate the phone since everything else was missing.
I know there isn't going to be too much of a demand for this since there aren't that many RW users and unlocked ones at that, but it would be very helpful for the few of us there are.

Have you tried xposed and gravity box? You can get most customization options of custom ROMs....and keep the moto x features that you lose with aosp custom ROMs.

Yep yep, I know about xposed modules but from what I've seen of xposed modules they aren't as fast and seamless as a well polished rom like Cyanogenmod or Paranoid android. I also haven't seen all the features I want from a custom rom in xposed modules such as a the cm theme chooser.
Thanks for the suggestion though

You may find the custom aosp ROMs have some glitches for the x tho...... And again, you lose all the unique moto x features. All of them.
That's why there are very few roms for the x. It's not really a flashers phone.... that's for sure. And most seem to prefer stock. Usually with gravity box.
Not to mention the downgrade issues.
As much as I love the moto x... all of the above are why my wife has it now and I moved to the n5. I think the x is the better overall phone, but missed the busy development that comes with a nexus.
The X was so perfect, it bored me. Lol

I'm with you on that, I've been considering switching to the nexus 5 for a while now. the moto x has alot of good stuff but there are a few alternatives to active notifications (and for me personally I don't use active notifications that much anymore since I have a pebble), I rarely use touchless control because in my opinion it is still awkward to just start talking to your phone in public, moto assist can be replaced with anything that schedules when your phone should be silent on vibrate or normal, and besides that the only thing I would miss is the two twist camera launch function.
I mean it seems like it would be harder to do but if someone could modify the stock rom with features of other roms that would be great too. In fact that would be the perfect rom, but I don't see that happening.
Hey guys, my wife has a Moto X Developer Edition (Verizon) and the battery life has been horrid lately. I'm going to unlock her bootloader and get root up and running so we can get Greenify and Wakelock Detector to hopefully improve her battery life. Just looking through the development threads, it's hard to easily tell which roms actually keep the Moto suite and actions. Are there any roms in particular that you guys would recommend?
Eclipse! Stock based so all moto features work and more.
Nice. That's the one I've already downloaded and was planning on going with. Thanks for reassuring me. I can't wait to see how much I can improve battery life with certain tweaks.
krypton for me works the best, no problems. muy bien!:good:
