Ativ S - APN settings aren't saved - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've flashed the phone to GDR3 and mobile data won't work automatically (Brazilian phone, European GDR3) - I have to input the APN settings manually which they work fine until I reboot the phone. It seems the information isn't saved.
Help?

Are you using the build-in Cellular Settings page, or the Samsung-specific APN app (which is also launched from the Settings hub)?
APNs should (and on my phone, an SGH-T899M, do) persist through reboot.

I'm using the built-in settings because the APN app from the store doesn't work, meaning that even with the correct data inserted, I can't access mobile data, it doesn't make any difference...odd.
Thanks for the help.

Sepaking of odd things, my SD card is no longer detected by the phone.

Sounds like it might just be bad hardware. The only problems I've had with my ATIV S since getting Samsung's GDR2 firmware update for were clearly tied to using a non-TMobile phone on TMo (which is stupid, but not an Ativ S problem per se).

Well... maybe I'll just roll back to GDR2 where everything was working normally and wait for some official OTA Latin America update...I hope not to die waiting

FYI...
ROM I8750DXBMJ1_I8750OLBBMJ1 (GDR2) works without a glitch, SD Card, 3G and all that crap
Waiting for a GDR3 that actually works out of the box.

Unlocked phone with custom ROM, can't use data plan anymore

I'm using Koodo mobile and I live in Canada. My main problem is that since I customized/modded my phone, I can't use my data plan anymore. If there's an extra option I've missed (which is possible), I can't find it, but the usual "enable data" doesn't work, so I'm stuck with wifi only. Another problem I've noticed is that when I travel to the US, I can't send international text messages anymore, only Canada and US text messages.
Here's what I did:
- applied all necessary updates
- bml5.img with super-user access
- unlocked phone with foreign SIM card
- installed SGS3 (emulated my phone)
- full wipe
- installed cm7 (cm-7-20130608-UNOFFICIAL-cooper.zip) + GApps
Used it for a while like this and data worked for a while in the beginning, but I had to disable wifi when it was on, cause it seemed to interfere. Seems like at some point though, maybe after a reboot or something, the data would never work, no matter if I disabled wifi or not.
Today, I did another full wipe and installed NexusAce_v0.1 instead, same problem with data. (Not sure about the international texts in the US cause I haven't gone there yet..)
Anyone knows what I can do about it?

[Q] Troubleshooting Mobile Data

Good night my fellow modders. Tonight i come with a particular query, mainly, how do i go about troubleshooting the 3G connection of the motorola razr i. Ever since i flashed Omar's Motorola 4.1.2 Rom from Jan-01-2014, i haven't been able to get internet access through my carrier (Not even through 2g) and ive already checked its not a carrier issue (Since i can use my simcard to browse the internet in another phone just fine), i even tried doing a nandroid restore from the stock firmware i had previous to starting this adventurous task to get things working again, but even then the mobile broadband service is a no-no.
I'm at a loss on what to do, since i've already tried reflashing the ROM, reset-ted the phones APN's, and i've also done the suggested file modification of the losialert timer to both, 1000 and 500 (as seen in the same thread). However those efforts have been to no avail and im quite at a loss on what to do.
Im sorry if my english isnt fully understandable (Its not my native languaje) and im also sorry if this isnt the righ section to post about it, but i cant post directly in the thread since I'm a new member. I thank you beforehand for any and all guidance or help you can offer me.
Don't worry, English is not native language for most of forum users.
First of all buy any pre-paid card from different carrier or borrow it sim-card from friend and test it.
I had similar situation with Virgin Mobile. We have quite few operators in my country and I tested all of them but for this I wasn't prepared. I had my new RAZR i and there was no option to use internet with Virgin Mobile.
After few days of fight with different ROM, modding system, installing apps to APN's I figured it was sim-card. Some carriers have old sim-cards which have something wrong with MCC and MNC code and all phones can work on it but not Android 4.1 and above caused APN automation.
I even called to Virgin to ask for changing sim-card but they said they don't have different version of sim-cards, so I asked "WHAT, so every people in Your network doesn't have internet on Android 4.1+??!!" and they said "Yes, it seems so".
And there was no other way but change carrier. Now I have fully working internet without any modifications.
Sorry for so long and boring reply but for my almost 10 years working with mobile phones it was first situation like this.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. Unfortunately, i believe your case doesn't apply to me, since i had no issue using the internet with my operator (Telcel) before flashing the new ROM. I've also already called my operator and they made several procedures to try and reestablish my service, however none of them worked, but they assure me it's a problem with my device, since their service is working correctly.
I have no idea what to do now, but i hope can get the minimum required limit i need to ask for support directly on the thread ;(.
I don't know if this will help.
I had this problem with my brothers phone (galaxy s4 mini) last night. Data wouldn't turn on in anyway. Flash in new ROM from recovery didn't did the trick, nor a nandroid did. The only way I have got it to work was flashing a stock ROM through ODIN. In this case it would be RSD lite. Maybe it I'll work, but be aware of the flashing problems red lite can give. Read it a bit. Good luck!

Do you have the correct APN entries?? You might need to add it manually...
That happens because it doesn't auto configure (correctly, or none at all) for some carriers because I don't have all the carriers in apn-config.xml -- while your specific carrier ROM might have had it already configured and a specific xml list for them.
If you reset APN's and see all the appropriate ones added it might be configuring a wrong ones by default according to the data from the apn-config.xml one in my ROM, just configure accordingly to your carrier information
Note 1: My ROM does not touch the radio, and since the radio images are international anyway it does not make sense to flash recovery images or anything ... the only problem (assuming you did not break anything in hardware during ROM flashing) comes from the android /system partition which is prone to have incorrect carrier settings for data configurations... any bad number or password updated on your carrier it would be configuring something else by doing "reset to default"...
Note 2: To save the APN entry don't exit ... press the options menu and hit save when done modifying -- else it won't remain saved!
The problem starts when You updated from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2??

Did you try to change the APN settings before you tried this? I'm only asking because I'm considering this option, but i would like to rule it out as my final option, because since i started having this issue I've been reading a lot, and the way you fixed your problem sounds like the stock ROM corrected your issue by giving you the default APN's for your carrier.

Thanks a lot for getting out of your way to help me Omar; After troubleshooting the device and several talks with my network carrier I've managed to get a so-so signal. I'm not sure if your ROM configures correctly or not the APN'S of my carrier (Telcel) because when i edited them everything was configured as it was supposed to be (I'm not sure about the password since i can't see it though), the only thing that was missing was the APN for GPRS, but I've been reading several forums and almost no android device needs this in addition to the 3G APN (I've added it nonetheless but the device isn't actively using it, my guess is that you've got to choose either 3g or GPRS); I also called my carrier, and the allegedly reset-ed my service.
I'm still not sure if the device is working properly, mainly because the internet access through the mobile network has become very unstable (Sometimes i get disconnected randomly, and turning on the Wi-Fi gets me disconnected automatically), and even though the radio almost always gets an H+ signal (Which is kinda funny, because i used to get 3G more consistently before) i don't think this is normal behavior. I think it may have to be with the los alert, because in my desperate attempts to get things working, i reflashed your ROM and it was set to 1000 once again and I also think that the hardware can't be broken because i wouldn't be able to connect to the data service otherwise.
Because of this i would like to ask two very specific queries, is there a way to flash this setting without flashing the entirety of the zip file?; And in case there isn't, if i flash the zip with the new configuration, and then proceed to perform a nandroid backup of my previous build, will i lose the new 00radio configuration?
I will be tinkering with the device this weekend and will report back if i can find whats wrong, just in case it's something else and somebody needs help troubleshooting this in the future. Thanks to everyone that has contributed so far, i wouldn't have learned so much in so little time without your help.

Hmm, don't know for sure. I have made some changes within the APN list to get it working, didn't work. But the rare thing was that the cm11 one did have data and when he flashed his stock back with a nandroid or a stock zip file data wouldn't turn on anymore. So I can't rule out that it was the APN list that was making trouble, because even with stock it did not work. Only by flashing through Odin it worked. Radio hasn't been flashed in that process.

SAMSUNG CARRIER SMS/4G Issues

I recently got a new phone from AT&T. I haven't contacted them as I haven't felt it necessary yet. After recently switching from an iPhone 4, I love Android. I quickly rooted it with the Ping Pong method and installed apps such as Busy Box, Greenify, Nova Launcher, Clock Sync Adblock Plus, System Tuner, SD Maid, Titanium Backup, Uninstall, and etcetera. I listed almost all root applications due to it may being a problem with that. My phone worked fine for a while. I noticed it stopped working after some calls stopped coming through as well as texts. Randomly, I see that my texts don't go through, but after a quick restart it seems to work fine. I was wondering if there is any way of getting logs to help someone out there figure this out for me. If unrooting via SuperSU and then factory wiping my device would work please let me know. If there is any information I can provide you I will. The phone worked for the first week fine. Restarts seem to fix the issue until around ~6 hours of time using the device. It mainly sits next to me at my desk.
SMS doesn't go through or receive. Phone calls are not received (Have not tried outgoing). Cellular Data (4G/LTE) does not work.
--Edit:
I have frozen the OTA notifications from wsync. I also remove some bloatware thanks to System app remover (ROOT) by Jumobile. It gives you things that are not CRUCIAL to your system to remove. I removed a few things. Nothing relate to Samsung.
I'd make a backup backup of the phone using your favorite method (I seem to remember that titanium can do this), and try a factory reset to see if that fixes your problem. AoN

Well... Umm. dm-verify verifaction failed... So I'm guessing that I "bricked" my device. Guessing I have to plug it into my pc and do a flash somehow. Any info?
--Edit: Booted into my device with same settings. However I cannot do a factory restore as it always says dm-verify verification failed.
Beyond my knowledge. If the phone still functions, un freeze / restore all the system stuff you disabled, try again? But I'm just guessing. AoN
Use Odin to flash the factory OE2 firmware via PC.
If you're still having issues it may be a faulty SIM card.

Alright, I flashed everything. Re-rooted (I tested before root if the Cellular Data/Messages worked. Cellular data did not, but messages did (and haven't had issues after root). The cellular data still DOES NOT work. I live in a location where LTE is supported. Any info?

This may be s silly question but have you tried toggling the 2 switches under mobile networks/mobile data off then on? One of them is enhanced 4G LTE services. I read somewhere that this might help.

Call AT&T tech support and have them provision your data on the back end again. Just explain that everything works except your data. This can happen if there is a data block on your line or if someone used the my AT&T app to turn off data for lines on the account.
Are you able to make phone calls?
Do you see the 4G LTE logo at the top when wifi is turned off?

Mobile data not working on some apps

I have Motorola Droid Turbo XT1254 Verizon model and I am using it in Asia on a non-Verizon network. Everything including wifi is fine, all apps working but I face alot of problem while using mobile data.
It only works on WhatsApp anf Google maps, I cannot even browse the internet because it doesn't work on Chrome. I tried other browsers but I can only browse the internet using Opera Mini but that has also stopped now. I cannot even call a cab when I am outside because because "Careem", the cab app says that I am not connected to the internet.
The H+ sign appears when I turn mobile data ON and I have also checked with my network operator, there is no issue at their end. They say there is something wrong with my phone.
I don't know where to start the troubleshooting. Can anyone help pl? Thanks in advance.
Someone advised me to check my APN settings. I went to the APN settings and there was nothing there. I first reset it to defaults and then added a new APN according to my network settings and everything is working fine now.
Whenever you put a new SIM, APN settings are automatically sent by the network and saved by the phone but that didn't happen to me so I had to do it manually.
Hope this helps someone someday!

Are you on a custom ROM or stock Verizon Marshmallow firmware? There's another issue with custom ROMs even for people on Verizon, the default is Straight Talk (an MVNO), not the REAL Verizon. (Because S comes before V, alphabetically.) It's an MNVO using Verizon signal, but REAL Verizon customers will often not get messages, get very slow speeds --- and they don't know anything is wrong because nobody ever checks their APNs anymore.

Is your bootloader unlocked? Do u have TWRP?
If yes then just flash clear-modem-status.zip by @bhb27. Search it using xda search.
If No then reflash your stock modem via fastboot. There are tutorials for our device on how to do so.

Disable prompt to reboot for new carrier settings

I have the S20 5g SE U1 unlocked from samsung. It keeps on automatically changing my CSC from XXA to att.. I don't want that. I can use it but only with that prompt in front of everything making usability pretty useless. I cannot find the system app which is causing it to try and change my CSC otherwise I'd disable it in ADB. Any ideas?
Edit: I tried the paid Chimera and it doesn't make it stay on XAA for the CSC>.<
the prompt will probably come from system UI.
so the prompt says what exactly ?
and do you have an AT&T simcard in the phone ?

can't swear to it but it sounds like it just wants to put settings for mobile data and maybe the AT&T service options onto the phone.
I don't think it wants or could change your CSC.
someone mentioned in another post that your firmware is 99% identical apart from a few bits for the carrier / network. I'd just click it and let it reboot. if you swapped simcard afterwards it would probably ask you to do again.
you definitely DON'T want to try and disable system UI

Every time I am forced to click it and it does change my csc to att until I take out the sim card.
you're probably on multi CSC firmware then with all the major US carriers included in it.
I don't the you need to worry about it changing, as you say it's matching the simcard you have in there (just AT&T are fussier than other networks to insist the phone does this for them) I'd guess.
if you had the dual sim model and didn't use a memory card it would be interesting to see what it would do with two cards in there the whole time.

Yeah everytime it switches my csc which then disables my free hotspot :/ Samsung is selling out to carriers ever since 3.1 :'(
I was in the states in 2013 and remember T-Mobile wouldn't let me tether any devices to my phone beyond 100 or 200mb, and that was with me paying 150 dollars for just 2 months line rental. that would've paid for 1 years unlimited broadband in the UK. tight little gits your networks.
