Hi
Advice needed.
I have returned my phone back to Vodafone as there was a crackle on speakers all the time. Tried usual remedies of hoover and compressed air, different ROM. So I sent back as only few months old.
I had a rooted phone so put s-off on and returned to stock and locked bootloader etc I did not however return to stock Vodafone version just stock European. I got a text explaining out of warratny and I need to pay £190. Oh dear. Probably should gone one step further and put vodafone fimware version on.
I haven't contacted the reapair centre yet.
So do I
1. Be awkward and ask for written evidence of tamper and how would effect the speaker crackle (or is it you have voided warranty end of conversation?).
2. Try HTC repair
3. Get the screw drivers out and try remove the speaker and DIY
4, Restore the phone back with old Vodafaone stuff on and try again?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
I
I'd ask why? You could act dumb and argue that's how you got the phone.

Consumer protection laws - return it to stock and give it back to your retailer.
Yes. Both these suggestions sprang to mind.
If I get the device back and return to stock do you think they will have a record that it was in before or does it not matter?
I think that may be best solution rather than trying HTC?
Cheers
Does anyone know where I stand with the Sale of Goods Act. Can Vodafone flatly refuse to repair even though there is a stock ROM albeit not a Vodafone shipped one?
If you're in the EU, you should be fine, but I strongly recommend returning it to stock (you can leave s-off) to reduce the argument. If it's covered by consumer protection law, then losing the manufacturers warranty is irrelevant, the retailer is responsible.

My HTC Diamond is currently with HTC Repair Centre - UK as I was having some LCD issues.
I have requested on many occasions the engineers diagnosis report detailing where the fault is, which they don't seem to be able to provide.
HTC have come back with the following:
-- BEGIN --
The customer flashed this device with some third party illegal software that is why the mainboard needs to be replaced.
The mainbord is damaged.
-- END --
I did flash the device as i was having problems with the LCD. The ROM used was tlr-diamond-1.08.06.20
Can someone confirm if flashing the ROM would cause the motherboard to become faulty??
Has anyone got any suggestions on this?
HTC are trying to charge me £238 to repair the Diamond, which I can not afford to pay after buying the product for £420 when it was first released in June 2008.
All comments welcome.
Jaz
no, they just don't want to pay to replace it, and you voided your warranty by flashing it. you should have flashed it back to stock before sending it to them... at this point though, you have voided their warranty, so they're going to use whatever they can to get out of repairing a device for free.
Tell them to give you the phone back I guess?
Yeah, I am going to ask for the device back.
I was going to flash the device back to the original stock ROM but was unable to gain access to the device to complete the task!
Oh bummer. That is £420 down the drain.....
Good day,
This is just a warning to all Touch pro 2 owners. I bought my unit August last year. Shipped it back to HTC because the touch screen had stopped responding. The phone booted up fine but you couldnt use the touch screen.
Im from the Caribbean so I had to pay for the shipping back to the states.
This is the email I got for HTC :
Dear Valued Customer,
This is documentation to provide suggested action repairs and quotation for
each service rendered.
Diagnosis:
System hanging, device has been hacked.
Suggested Repair:
Replace Main Board
Total Repair Price:
With shipping $359.64
---------------------------------------------
I paid $700 bucks for the phone off amazon.
I installed the bootloader and an Original windows mobile European Rom 6.5 months ago.
Here are my questions :
If the motherboard is bad or "hacked" why did the system work perfectly for 6 months.
Obviously HTC thinks I am an *** to shell out $360. Im going to tell them go to hell. This WAS my first ever HTC phone. I had respect for the company. But not the way they treat their customers. Im just going to tell them keep the phone because I dont want a paperwieght. This is alot of BS. Its obviously a hardware problem and they are trying to blame it on me.
So Im out $700 and no phone. ---- HTC they have lost a customer for life.
Im sure someone here will have a problem with their phone. But just be warned. HTC thinks we are all chumps. Im going to get a droid or something when I save up enough money.
I hope no one has to live through this nightmare like I had.
Thanks for nothing HTC. ---

ok first of all, dont curse, its just gonna make you look childish,
where im at HTC doesnt really have bad customer service, you just gotta make sure you talked to the right guy from HTC, but since your touch screen doesnt work, its just an LCD problem something to do with the digitizer, not soo sure, but did you even try a hard reset or flashed a different ROM?
and what you installed a bootloader
you didnt jtag it have you?
but im sure u mean to say HardSPL, but was it the original HardSPL? that couldve triggered them to say its been hacked if it wasnt the stock SPL
I bet for that price you could pay someone to do the work locally.
Well you really can't blame HTC for your mistake..The mistake of not restoring for factory ROM and SPL prior to sending it back. There are instructions for doing that just for this situation when you need to make a warranty exchange..Flashing a custom SPL & ROM will void any warranty on the phone..If its only the touch screen that is bad you can pick one up off ebay and do the repairs yourself...google and you will find detailed instructions...
Sounds like you need a new digitizer........Ebay has them for around $30 (U.S.)
Purchase a small Torx driver set, and replace it......
I meant to say Hard SPL
Yup I meant to say Hard SPL.
This is just wrong the way they say it was the mainboard. Im sure it has something to do with the touch screen.
It is sad they had to resort to this. I mean I dont think Im THAT stupid. Hard Spl or not I think they should just fix it. Its not software related. The phone works perfectly. Just no touch input.
With that kind of money I could get another TP 2 off ebay. So its just wrong. Its a sham to get people to shell out 360 bucks for nothing.
This has thought me a very important lesson. Dont let these companies push you around.
try to attempt at asking it back without the repairs? i havent seen no one do it before, but its worth a try, im pretty sure they'll give it back cuz they "claim" you cant fix it and will be stuck with it, but in reality u have digitizers sitting around ebay
worth a shot mate
but then yet again, how much is shipping? :x
Clearly stated in the Hard-SPL thread:

Hard-SPL Release Time!!!!
NOTE 2: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs (except of course some Radio roms). also, this has overwrite protection against HTC RUU's overwriting HSPL with a stock one, so if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, a stock SPL downgrade package is posted here below. use this relocker *only* if you need to return the phone for warranty, and only use it as last step - after reflashing stock OS and radio. see steps at the end of this post about how to reflash stock SPL.

Simply downgrading to the stock SPL could have avoided this.
Yes downgrading could have avoided this but they lied !!
What bothers me the most is that they lied about the diagnostic. Its just very misleading and to me its extortion. How could the mainboard be bad? Or is it they simply think that people with smartphones dont know how they work. I will update you on the situation as time progresses. One thing I know is im not paying that "fee" for having it repaired. Shipping might cost me $70. So im already out alot.
sounds like a digitizer as already mentioned. very cheap.
i bought my phone off ebay. and seller said it was RAN OVER lol. still works great despite the scratches, chips,e tc and battery looks like it went to hell and back.. cells almost exposed in some areas
They probably have a policy where if the phone has been hardSPL'd (hacked) they simply replace the mobo. I can understand they wouldnt wont to train their staffs in every known hack etc they would want the phones to be in original condition.
Just tell them to post it back (you will have to pay the postage) then either set it back to standard and then try to get it fixed again or best option as others have said, buy a digitizer off eGay and fix it yourself or get a local boffin to fix it for you.
You need to accept the fact that if you hack your phone you will not be treated as a 'normal' customer. You get a lot of benefits from hard SPL but 'factory' HTC service wont be one of them.
First off, you are truly stupid for even paying $700 for a cell phone off amazon. That is outrageous and you know it. Besides, most carriers sell these for $150 - $200 with a new 2 year contract. Second, I agree with the others. If you would have called and had them warranty exchange it, you wouldn't be in this situation. hTC is a great phone manufacturer and their phones are top quality (price reflects). You have had one issue with the company because of something you did and/or failed to do with ONE of their phones. Don't go blaming them for your mistakes. Sorry if anyone is upset at this, i just can't tolerate someone coming on here and bashing the manufacturer that makes our phones
I can only foresee this thread degenerating more than it already has so I just closed it. ROM development is the wrong forum to post this anyway. As to the original OP... it comes down to the fact that you didn't put the stock SPL back on before you sent it to them. It seems logical they would use that as an excuse to get out of repairing your device for free. HTC or not, they exist to make money.
Question.
Anyone who's ever had to send the I9000M in for warranty ever have it returned stating the warranty is void?
2 part question here.
If you haven't, and the warranty went smooth, what ROM did you ship the corrupt thing back with? Was it the original "JH2?" or some other rom not necessarily designed for the phone?
If you have, did you complain about it? What were the results?
What reason was given for your warranty being voided?
well let me tell you about my experiences with Sasktel here in Saskatchewan. I had my i9000m rooted with the original jh2 rom ( as I currently do know exactly how to install a diff one ) sent away due to the fact it destroyed 2 micro SD cards in the 4 weeks 3 days |I owned the phone. I was honestly expecting a new phone in return. Well 3 weeks 5 days later I received my old phone back. Sasktel told me they "updated" the phone software. Well I took the phone home to discover that there were now 3 small scratches on the display, Sound quality was either too quiet or painfully distorted and most noticeably a slight bulge on the chrome trim that sits on the side of the phone next to the display. I took it back again to Sasktel right away as I didnt notice it int he store as I was in a huirry. It became noticable when I was placing on my screen protector. Sasktel was very understanding and gave me a new phone on the spot. In my opinion it is what they should have done in the first place but in the end I am whole again.
hope that helps
just read my rant and wanted to be more clear.
Phone was sent away with the JH2 installed and I unrooted it and did a 3 finger restore on the phone prior to sending it in for repair. Phone was " repaired" but appeared to not be put backl together right so | was then given a new phone.
better ??
they always come back with JH2
no idea about the denied warranty
they wont even accept the phone if you have no invoice (that is denied already)

No, mine wasn't denied (well not as of right now anyway).. just wondering if anyone had such an experience.
I heard waranty is void if the phone is unlocked and used in another cell company.... heresay probably

100%
Especially when Bell will give out the unlock code themselves. I have sent in two SGS i9000m's for internal SD issues, both unlocked and being used on rogers. They were repaired and sent back at no charge. They were however re-locked when i received them but that wasn't an issue.
Recently my heaphone jack started malfunctioning so I called HTC and they said they would send me a replacement and as long as mine did not have any damage that was out of warranty, it would (basically) be free of charge. My phone should not have any physical damage that is out of warranty but I am wondering if, when they turn it on and see that it has been rooted, if that will fall under non-warranty damage.
Basically, i am about to return my phone for a new one, and am wondering if I should revert the phone back to stock and attempt to re-lock the bootloader or if it would even matter considering the problem I have is with the hardware?
You can't re-lock the bootloader but you can revert to stock. This guide should do the job.
Okay, thanks. I thought I had seen a thread about re-locking the bootloader at some point but I guess it must have been a work in progress or something. Plus, even though I searched before, I searched different terms after posting this and saw that a lot of people have returned their unlocked N1's and had no additional charges, as long as they reverted back to stock. So I guess that's what I will do. Really impressed with HTC's customer service!
Considering i bought the htc one from ebay with the tester bootload and changed IMEI, would they repair my phone camera if i send it to HTC? Would they keep the phone or would they send it back?

I would imagine since that's a hardware problem they wouldn't do much digging around. As long as you are on stock rom and don't have any obvious changes or root files.

The IMEI was changed probably ba ESN, wont they use the IMEI to check warranty? Either way i dont believe they would keep the phone as its not illegal to change anything on the device (I think).

I highly doubt they would keep it. They may check against serial number as far as warranty but I've never dealt with HTC directly. I want to say HTC's warranty is a year and no HTC one has been out a year so every HTC One is still covered by warranty. If anything comes of it just play dumb and say you bought it on Ebay.
When I had to send my One back to get its screen repaired, I asked the rep I was on the phone with about the bootloader. He told me that the bootloader/ROM only becomes a problem when they can't flash it to stock for whatever reason, in which case the repair center will charge extra for the hassle of reflashing your phone. I was also told that flashing my phone to as close to stock as possible should be fine. I doubt they check your software any more than this. As with the "keeping the phone" deal, they probably wouldn't do such a thing unless it was listed as a stolen phone and some agency forced them to keep it.
My broken (shattered glass) screen wasn't covered by the warranty so they probably didn't check my warranty status. It may be different in your situation, but I hope that this helps.
Its to repair the known issue of the red/blue/green tint on the camera, i just want to play safe and get a new camera or a new phone.
Edit: Funny thing happened today, i somehow fixed my camera.
Anyway i was contacted by HTC in Portugal telling me, that because my phone was modified by Sprint the warranty is not valid in europe....
