I've had my HTC One M7 for almost 10 months now and i haven't encountered any issues except for one thing which has been bugging me for a long time... Whenever i got an earphone/headphone plugged into the audio jack (i tried different kinds, all without mics/volume control, including ipod earphones and the original HTC One M7 earphones from the retail box), my HTC One M7 automatically dials the last contact i called in my phone log and it appears to do this randomly. I have been apologizing to my friends and relatives more than a few times in the past months but recently my call log showed automatic calls at 3AM to some of my friends since i fell asleep listening to music, which is really embarrassing since they are my co-workers and i had to explain to them about my phone issue, so they blocked my number for waking them up at night. :silly: I can't blame them but can someone please suggest a solution?
Also, i noticed that the issue is not restricted to automatic redials... it also causes my music to stop or start playing randomly whenever i have an earphone plugged into the phone. I'm using the HTC music app so i'm not sure if using another music app fixes this problem?
I have been researching about this problem and at first i thought it might be an issue with my phone in particular or the custom ROM that i am using (it's the latest ARHD which is pretty stable among all ROMs) but then i discovered that this is an HTC hardware issue which has plagued most of their phones. The problem has not been fixed with the M7, which is very sad since the M7 turned things around for HTC. It happens whenever the earphone jack gets nudged or receives a tiny shock which is enough to cause the wiring to short and act crazy!
I found a software solution although i am not sure if this will fix it.
Headset Button Controller
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kober.headsetbutton
What are the optimal settings to use in that app to prevent this problem? Has anyone tried it?
This problem is incredibly annoying. Can someone please suggest a reliable and permanent solution? I don't want to get rid of my M7... but i will have to, if this problem cannot be fixed correctly and permanently.
There is apparently a free (and better?) app called Headset Blocker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idunnolol.headsetblocker
But the problem with that app is the restricted support for Android 1.5 - 3.2 so it will not support Jelly Bean nor Kitkat.
Headset is not okay try to clean it with a toothbrush.

I haven't used my speakers in about a week so I decided to try them today. I got a weird popping sound as soon as I opened up YouTube. Once I started playing a video, a steady pop persisted even though the audio was coming out. I tried playing through multiple music apps, turning beats audio off, and restarted the phone with no luck. This is only happening for my top speaker only when I enter an app that plays sound. The sound also persists for a few seconds after I stop sound. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks.

In the main thread about such noises somebody has fixed this persistent popping through repair of HTC. It's hardware.
The popping sound (one single pop) a few seconds after a sound is played seems to affect a lot of people! Don't know if that's hard- or software. My device got that, too.

I've seen threads on that but it doesn't seem to be my issue. The sound doesn't just occur when I stop a sound, it occurs as soon as I start playing sound. Its constantly there. If I open up a song, it will continue to pop through the duration of the song until I stop the song completely. This makes it hard to make phone calls too. Headphones work fine though so its definitely related to the speaker. I haven't read about this specific issue on xda before so I decided to post it.

Yes. Your problem is a hardware defect (a user wrote about that), my phone doesn't have this problem. The seconds one (the single pop) often occurs.

Guess I'll have to get it replaced. Its still under warranty but I wouldve like to know why it happens. Thanks anyway.

Hey guys
I have a problem with listening music on my htc one. Sometimes (quite often) when I turn on music from my phone on headphones the music starts playing on maximum volume level before it goes back to the one that was set before. This causes those short superloud clicks that hurts my ears.
Does anyone know how do you fix it? I believe its a software problem since it was the problem on my earlier HTC One too.
thanks in advance
Hey there!
I am very happy with my HTC One even after the announcement of the M8, but since a few days I have a very strange problem.
Every time I try to take a call, I need to enable the speaker, since the one I am calling with can't hear me without.
It seems like my voice is there, but really really quite.
I was using Viper One till today and it happened between 5.60 and 5.70, but today I changed the rom to see whether it could be a rom problem and using now InsertCoin SixthSense 1.0.1.
My HTC One is unlocked, S-OFF and of course rooted... any idea, what could fix my really quite voice, instead of screaming or using the speaker the whole time? I don't like it, when everybody can hear me talking on the phone, I'm no Eric Cartman.
Record some video with very loud sounds. Try blowing or whistling directly into the mic . Sounds crazy but it has worked for others.

Will try both "fixes" tomorrow.
So it's a already known problem for some users?
Btw: I tried to use Shazam and it also nearly identifies no music, even if it is in front of the speaker. So it has to be something with the normal mic. But why does it work flawlessly, when talking with the speaker enabled?
I suppose it could affect all mic functions. I personally experienced this with phone calls and personally fixed it with loud recordings (as did others), i didn't check shazam ..

Okay tried it a few days ago with whistling directly into the mic and it didn't fixed my problem.
So I decided to try the extremely loud recording and it sadly also didn't worked.
But I found out, that it has been gotten worse than before. My recordings on 29.03 went with a few quite whistles, but my recording yesterday couldn't record any whistle at all and only got music, after I increased the volume to +300 and it's still really quite.
I also tried to flash a new radio and kernel, none of them fixed anything.
So I guess, flashing back to stock and bringing it to a repair station is the last chance I have?
Hello. I've Googled and it seems that getting a good amount of static is a noted issue among HTC One users, but my issue is I hear nothing at all but static. Really loud, painful static. The problem only occurs during calls without the speaker on and any time I use my headphones. If I put the caller on speaker or just blast my music, everything is fine. And the static doesn't end immediately after I end the call/music
I've been using this phone for about a year now, and the problem only started a few weeks ago. I've tried using both my Sony earbuds and the Beats earbuds that come with the phone. I sent my phone for servicing last week, highlighting this problem. They kept it for four days and then said the failure was a "program abnormal execution/termination (Error massage[sic?] pop-up or etc...)" and "re-flashed ROM image" as a solution. I made one call to my sister after that, and lo and behold, we could hear each other, but there was still static. And then there was a sound my sister describes as a rocket rushing past and I had crystal clear sound like the good old days after that. Likewise with listening to music/videos. But today the static came back. It wasn't the same loud painful static as before, but it's still nothing but static. I've tried turning off Beats Audio and rebooting the phone but the problem is still there. As I've just transferred my data back into the phone, could it be possible that I've reintroduced a corrupted file that triggers the problem?
I'm on Andriod 4.4.2 and HTC Sense 6.0. The phone says there is no upgrade available. I live in Asia, so this does not seem to be a Three network problem as well. Any help on this will be much appreciated. I really dread having to send my phone for servicing again.
Thank you!
[x-posted to HTC forums, but hitting a wall there]
I have been using Atrix HD MB886 -unlocked- in India for nearly an year now
But Since CM11 M7 build - i have been facing wierd battery drain and problems with Audio(earpiece, speaker and headset)
I then flashed factory image
MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886
and also got updated to
98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US (latest OTA)
But the audio problem is still there
Ever since, the speaker sound and all the system sounds, including ringtones, call volume, etc go off by themselves randomly, so I can't hear anything when the phone rings, If by chance I pick up a call while in this state, I can't hear a word the person on the other side utters, but that person does hear me clearly.
Restarting the phone, the sound works perfectly, until for some unknown reason it goes off, and I have to repeat the whole process.
Reading through forums on the web, some people who have had the same problems report improvements and some very few even report having obtained solution to this persisting issue after installing the app "SoundAbout" from google play store. But no use for me.
I have tried nearly all ROMS for Atrix by now - but no relief.
Any fixes., ????!!!!!
im having the exact same problem with my atrix. Tried multiple roms incuding flashing back to stock. I assumed it was a hardware issue but restarting the phone fixes it. Iv also noticed sometimes the sound comes back by itself after a while, even without a reboot. I played songs with the audio muted for a continuous 8hrs and the sound was fine all the while. Anyone else have the same issue or possible reasons what might be causing this..???
HW problem
Hi, this is most likely a hardware issue.
I had same problem sometimes. When I hit the phone, at the top (not furiously), it started working again.
Most likely loose connection with speaker terminals.
you can open it and pull the speaker connectors.
