For those of you who have gone through the AT&T Warranty Replacement process, what condition did your refurbished phone come in?
I'm asking because I just received a replacement request and there are a bunch of scratches on the screen. I thought refurbished meant "like new" quality but just wanted to ask the others on the board to see what your experience was.
Thanks in advance.

I've received replacements device's a few times. Every time I received one its in mint condition. I never saw even the tiniest of scratches anywhere on the device. You should definitely call the warranty department and let them know you want another device and explain to them why you are making the request.

Yep I just got a Galaxy S 4 Active warranty refurb. It looks brand new.
That reminds me, I need to mail the old one off.

Flawless condition. However, I only received the main phone: no battery, back or stylus. (I'm assuming that's normal)

My replacement was brand new. It came in a sealed box and the phone had the plastic on it and everything. I don't know if you have a deductible, but mine was $200 and for $200 I'd better get a brand new phone...
I loved the feeling and sound of pulling the screen protector off of a new phone.
I got 2 replacements phones the first one was in a box and in immaculate condition but had an issue with ram partition, they sent me a second phone that was wrapped up in plastic and had a couple of fine scratches on the screen.

Refurbished phones should typically be in like-new condition. There should not be any scratches on it. Return it.
Thanks everyone. That's what I pretty much figured.
Called AT&T and complained. Another refurbished one is in the mail. Hopefully this one is in better condition.

Yes, I was able to root my replacement phone using TowelRoot and also install SS, just to make sure.
I'll have to Odin back to stock though before I send it back for the other replacement without scratches.

I could be wrong but I believe you can use @designgears one-click method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2619941
Or worst case scenario, just take it to Best Buy Samsung Center and have them do restore the phone for you.

The link you posted is to the leaked software ending with MLG. That is not official software and if any warranty department checks this you would instantly be voided.
Best buy would be your only hope.

You can restore your nandroid backup to the stock slot. Remove any apps requiring root access. Remove safestrap, then un-root.

I spoke to my local Best Buy store associate yesterday and he said they'll do it if the phone was purchased there.

Went to the Bestbuy store and the Samsung reps helped me reflash to the stock firmware. No questions asked. I handed her the phone and she plugged it to her pc and flashed it without checking anything on my phone. Flashed only took like 5 minutes. I'm back to stock.

I don't think they have a set policy. It just depends who you talk to and if they are cool or not.

had my note 2 replaced and the replacement phone was not up to par for me. so i called and complained that my phone i was sending them was in better shape than the replacement. they said they would make sure i get a nice one. the 2nd one they sent me looked like a brand new phone. all the stickers on it and not a single mark anywhere, dont settle for crap that they send you. make sure you like it or keep sending them back

Since it is an insurance claim you can just say that you lost the phone and never send it back. YOu could also make it physically unusable. With insurance it doesn't matter what you did to violate the warranty

They are refurbished, and you should get your money back soon.
How do you know they're refurbished?
And secondly, if they are what do they fix on the refurbished ones? Why do they look new?
Thanks

They probably just fix what was wrong with the device in the first place when it was returned by someone and/or parts which look used or marked (I.e. cover). It wouldn't make a whole lot of fiscal sense for HTC to throw out every slightly defective phone
Got my replacement today and;
BRAND NEW WITH AMOLED SCREEN. BOOYAH
How do you order a replacement N1 if your phone is stolen? HTC doesn't appear to sell the directly, under any circumstances.
Man... you may be out of luck on that one.
give them a call here (USA only) 1-888-216-4736
Next time get insurance or something. Or glue it to your skin. :/

They aren't, the way you can tell is that the screws on the back have slight scratches on them, where the new ones are plain black. The good thing about refurbs are that they are 100% made sure to work, and they replace the mobo so its like new.
Definitely. But its all good. Besides the screen issue.

Got mine today! Brand new too! At least appears to be!
I already posted this in the nexus forum. I just want to get an opinion from both sides...
I currently have the HTC One m7 on tmobile with a completely blown speaker on the top so both external sound and call sounds are ruined. I unlocked the boot loader and actually dropped it one time so there is a tiny bit of damage on the bezel, so i assume neither t mobile or htc will honor any kind of warranty. I put it up on craigslist and a guy is offering to trade me for a mint condition nexus 4 with a few cases. Should i do it?
Did you even talk to T-Mobile or HTC ?

I have had horrible luck in the past on warrenty claims with t mobile, it made me not even want to call them. I sent htc an email and they basically said they cant help me, wouldn't even say if they could repair if i paid for it. No shops around want to touch the phone, and the cant even obtain parts. Oh and the best part is that i cant even call them with a blown speaker

I have had AT&T honor warranty even with a Relocked bootloader. If the unit is with in one year...so it still has manufacturers warranty. I dropped but always had a Trident or Otter box case so no visible damage. If you can restore the stock recovery, relock, etc...you can try HTC or T Mobile. I also searched the forums and found a way to make the screen show Locked Vs Relocked. You will have to search that. Hate to see you lose the One without trying first..then if they wont help you..do the deal as a Nexus 4 is not up to the Specs ofnthe ONE but it is Free of carrier b.s., right ? i assume it is the unit you buy from Google directly? I purposely went with the HTC ONE Developer Edition so I would have unlocked bootloader without any Carrier Restrictions...

Agree, flash back to stock recovery, rom, relock...wipe sd card with any superUser (root) files and send it in, many have had warranty honored this way...it just depends what is broken or defective...the only issue is the physical damage that they could claim caused the speaker damage..? Don't know till ya try...
It really bad luck. But a blown speaker should be covered. I'd keep hassling them. With the phone so new, I wouldn't give up.

This is why I decided to buy direct from Google.
All you can do is contact them and tell them
When I tried to buy from Google it was always out of stock. Then I went to car phone warehouse and it was my mistake. And now I am suffering. 3 repairs means I was without my phone for more than 2 months. Somehow I wish I could get a refund

Funny, when I took in my first one for replacement, I was just a day or two past the thirty day mark so T-Mobile refused to give me a new one. They sent me a refurbished one instead.
I knew that I was taking a risk by rooting the phone but I didn't know the micro-usb port was going to crap out on me so soon. Bought the phone this March and now I can't charge it. I flashed a stock rom before sending it for repair but obvoiusly the saw the tripped knox counter. Do you guys have any suggestions? Know of any online repair stores? or should I just simply buy the anker batteries and charge them on the adapter?
Many thanks.
Dude it costs like 75.00 at a repair shop to change it and they should have a warranty on the work

Hum - this is the FIRST time I have heard of a company refusing to repair a phone just due to Knox being tripped.
Specifically what did they tell you?
Where did you send it? (Samsung where or to your Cell Provider - if so what cell company do you use?
I contacted samsung and they provided me with a ups label. shipped it out to a repair center in texas. i got a note with the phone saying it was "not serviceable" and when i contacted customer service they told.me itbwas because it was rooted.
The USB port on mine died too. I found some local centers that said the rate would be around $75.
I ended up going with Samsung, as my device was still in warranty (and not rooted). In retrospect, I wish I had gone with the local group. I was without the phone for almost a month. Sent it in the first time, and they screwed up....replaced the display instead of fixing the charging issue. That was a surprise when I got it back. The return box even included the original disembodied display assembly! Ended up having to send it back again to get it all resolved.
Good luck sorting it out!
thanks. i also found some repair store locally. we'll be taking it in soon

I remember reading something on a note 3 forum where it stated that if they deny your repair because of root they have to prove root caused the malfunction. I think it's safe to say that root didn't cause a bad charging port

Not sure if you want to make the trip.. I'm in Reading, PA and could do the repair for cost of parts (For note 3, it's about $12) and I have a couple lying around)... You're about 2.5 hours from here... not sure if it's cost effective, but an option if you want.

Thanks for the feedback, this is the first time I have heard of one that was refused for warranty work JUST due to knox tripped.
I guess need to re-think rooting until when (&if) a root w/o tripping knox hits
