Change mic gain? - Motorola Droid 4

Trying to get a secondhand Droid 4 operational for my wife, who really, really wants a hardware keyboard. When I got it, it worked fine except that intermittently the handset microphone would get too quiet for the person on the other end of the line to hear. Switch to speaker or Bluetooth and everything is fine. It didn't happen all the time, but enough to be annoying. A search revealed a suggested solution was to clear data for Google Services Framework and reboot; this seemed to be somewhat effective, but the issue continued to recur.
Having tried everything else, I rooted it and flashed the latest CM11 milestone. And the mic behavior changed -- now it's always too quiet (not intermittent). Testing reveals that if I shout into the phone, the person on the other end can barely hear something. And Google voice search is unusable -- when I shout, the mic icon flashes sometimes, but it never gets anything.
The intermittent nature of the issue and the change in behavior after installing a different OS leads me to think it's a software issue. Can anyone steer me toward a system file where mic gain is set, or any other possible solution to this issue? Thanks so much.

When calling, people dont hear my voice

I've seen people complain of similar issues, but no solutions when searching. Regardless of if I call them, or I'm the one being called 30-50% of the time they won't be able to hear my voice. It's been consistent regardless of ROM (Stock, Cyan, Enom).
It may be a hardware defect (I had one of the earlier phones) but programs such as Shazam and Hertz, which use the mic to collect nearby sounds, work flawlessly and 100% of the time.
Has there been a proposed solution to this problem?
are you accidentally pressing the mute button?
No, mute's not pressed when I look at the screen and nothing changes if I toggle mute on/off.
Are you running a non-stock kernel?
This is also a new google feature. If your voice is that bad sounding, the nexus one cancels the other person from hearing it. This also happend to one of my friends that sounds like hes high half the time.
lol, harsh.
i've had the same problem before on cyan and today again for the first time on enom.
rebooting normally fixes it but i have no idea what causes it.
Do you use a task killer? I think this may have something to do with it, killing an app that phone calls require but I guess it would have the smarts to re-open it if it actually required it.
Same thing happens to me- I would shift position and move my hand and it will start working again. Super annoying.... i returned my phone and got a new one, and it is still happening. Arghhhh

My mic seems to be screwed up now, and people can't hear me

Things like voice search/translate/etc don't pick up any voice input. During calls, nobody can hear me even if I can hear them perfectly. Fiddling with mute/speaker doesn't seem to work, either. Volume/vibrate settings don't seem to change anything, either.
I've Googled this problem and haven't found anything that fits my problem (many people seem to get this working by hitting Speaker, but that doesn't work here).
What ROM you running, ect....?
Sounds like it just might be a hardware problems (bad mic)
Fit's ROM, Redstar kernel. It's all been working before -- haven't updated in a while and it used to all work just fine.
I would at least update to his latest build and see of it resolve it, o still think could be hardware related
I just discovered that my thin bumper case was totally screwing up my speakerphone mic's and even my touchscreen. I haven't a clue how it has been doing so, but it seems to be fixed. I just started a thread. Go here for the products I was using that caused these issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/case-screwing-touchscreen-microphones-t3039801

Atrix HD audio problem

I have been using Atrix HD MB886 -unlocked- in India for nearly an year now
But Since CM11 M7 build - i have been facing wierd battery drain and problems with Audio(earpiece, speaker and headset)
I then flashed factory image
MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886
and also got updated to
98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US (latest OTA)
But the audio problem is still there
Ever since, the speaker sound and all the system sounds, including ringtones, call volume, etc go off by themselves randomly, so I can't hear anything when the phone rings, If by chance I pick up a call while in this state, I can't hear a word the person on the other side utters, but that person does hear me clearly.
Restarting the phone, the sound works perfectly, until for some unknown reason it goes off, and I have to repeat the whole process.
Reading through forums on the web, some people who have had the same problems report improvements and some very few even report having obtained solution to this persisting issue after installing the app "SoundAbout" from google play store. But no use for me.
I have tried nearly all ROMS for Atrix by now - but no relief.
Any fixes., ????!!!!!
im having the exact same problem with my atrix. Tried multiple roms incuding flashing back to stock. I assumed it was a hardware issue but restarting the phone fixes it. Iv also noticed sometimes the sound comes back by itself after a while, even without a reboot. I played songs with the audio muted for a continuous 8hrs and the sound was fine all the while. Anyone else have the same issue or possible reasons what might be causing this..???
HW problem
Hi, this is most likely a hardware issue.
I had same problem sometimes. When I hit the phone, at the top (not furiously), it started working again.
Most likely loose connection with speaker terminals.
you can open it and pull the speaker connectors.

Help with sound issue

Hope somebody can help please? My Zuk Z2 Pro has lost the earpiece sound when on a phone call. People can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I am sure its a software problem but not sure how to permanently fix it.
I ran a manual engineering test by typing *#*#1111#*#* and checked the speaker and the microphone in settings, they are fine. However, the ‘Rec’ setting wont play any sound to the earpiece.
I have read its a known issue and installing the app mswitch (keycut) worked, but it didnt. I then read about switching off "OK Google", well on a Zuk this is not easy to find, so am not even sure I was able to disable this app.
EDIT: After more investigation I have found that when I turn the voice volume up in ringer settings it does nothing, which I think may be the speaker itself. My wife has the same phone and hers works normally. There are three ringer volumes, and the middle one does nothing but I know it did yesterday
I then tried another app called "Soundabout". This worked and allowed the Rec setting in the engineering side of the phone to play a sound, like an increasing oscillalation of sound. I then restarted the phone and it worked, but not permanently. The app doesn't seem to stay working.
However, when I made a phone call the earpiece speaker still didnt work. I could not hear anybody but they could hear me.
However, it does work when headphones are plugged in.
Does anyone know if a factory reset of the software would help as I am stuck and desperate for help. It just suddenly stopped working yesterday, so am puzzled as to why. The phone is just less than 12 months old, so not particular aged and it has always been in a case and well looked after. Its running stock Android 6 with the ZUI overlay from Zuk, so no changes made to it.
I have de same problem. Two months ago the speakers decreased the volume and microphone does not work properly.
I replaced the usb + mic piece, but the problem remains the same. Now, I have ordered speakers piece, but I guess the problem will continue.
The only thing I can think is the origin of the issue could be the bluetooth earphones that in some way had changed the sound configuration.
Try to qfil ZUI 1.9, if that does ot help then its hardware problem most likely.

Finally I have found the origin of the problem. It was in the dust filters of the phone. I used an special liquid for the screen protector. Some of this liquid goes to the filters. I have cleaned this filter with a brush teeth.
It is silly and I feel dumb.
Simple fix
Please do not feel dumb or stupid as this is something we don't think about.
The problem is due to dust and fabric accumulation. I just had this problem.
The fix is simple.
Use something soft to bang your receiver. In my case i used the tip of my finger. You want to the bang to be good but not to break the glass. My finger hurts a bit so I think a small rubber hammer will do the job.
Hope this helps.
Clean earpiece protector
Hi, I had the same issue and after trying all software tweaks with no success, what I have done is use a toothbrush to clean the tiny holes from the earpiece protector. I pushed some brush bristles gently through the holes and... it worked!!!
Hope it helps.

Question Calling issue with wired headphones?

Hey! So I have a really weird problem with this phone... Which i originally thought was a hardware problem, but I think I just confirmed that it's not. I will try to explain it:
Noteworthy Items:
1. Long phone calls
2. Wired headsets (I've tried at least 6 different earbuds)
3. This happened to me with the base MIUI, and a custom rom
I spend a good part of my phone time on phone calls, and from time to time, the person on the other line will tell me that they're not hearing audio from my earphone's mic anymore, but rather from the microphone on the phone (particularly like a speaker phone call). If I plug my earphones out and back in again, this fixes it. During this time, if I run my hand over the proximity sensor, my screen will go dark as if I was on call without headphones but all sound is still processing through my earbuds (I hear my caller fine). I installed a custom rom less than a week ago, and I'm still having the same issue so I thought it was hardware-related.
However, today I decided to do something different... I ended the call, and called back without touching any of the hardware (I didn't plug out my earphones or touch the connection in any way) and this fixed the audio issue. I did this three times already to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I'm very confused as to what could be causing this issue. Any ideas?
To confirm, I've used different earbuds but I've never tried to replicate this using wireless earphones (because I don't have any). The issue also happens more commonly if I'm moving too much (this is originally why I thought it was hardware related). If I keep still, or my phone doesn't move, I have this issue less frequently. If any other info is needed, I'm happy to provide, and happier for any help I receive. Thanks!
yea, I also have the same issue. I tried many solutions but still problem persist. has anyone got any solution?
Me too
