My old Vivid finally died. After what I think is a heat issue at the beach it killed the backlight. It stayed under the umbrella and inside the beach bag but it was 90+ degree that day and I don't think my Vivid liked it. I could still see the display but only indoors and in low light. I used the old girl for about 2 weeks then the battery stopped holding its charge. I walked into the AT&T store with a tear in my eye to say goodbye to a faithful friend. Getting a brand new gun metal gray HTC One M8 sure will wipe a tear from your eye fast.
Anyway, goodbye old friend and all here as well. I couldn't have rooted, flashed or otherwise made my HTC Vivid truly my own.
Thanks

I ve done a fair share of research and am getting mixed answers from these threads. I am in a situation where i have to call AT&T and get a new tilt sent to me, but i fear in my situation i will eventually get charged for the new unit. Here's my story...
got my tilt and been flashing it with some of the beautiful roms created... and i am a very happy camper... until one day... i was a bit drunk and i entered my friends backyard for the first time and immediately walked into the swimming pool(please dont ask, it was plain retarded). i fell in and popped back out immediately and took my phone out of my pockets and i believe i took the battery out after about 2 minutes. I dried it up for 2 days... with about 2-3 hours of hair drying... and finally decided to pop the batt. in the phone. WALLLAAAAA!!!! it worked and i was too happy. shortly after that... later that night i left my phone on my desk and the next day i got the RLOD.... the red light... yes... i want to call AT&T and have them send me a new one... but i m very certain they will charge me for the phone after they find out it was wet... or after they find out it was flashed with a diff rom. How accurate is this and is there a way for me to get my TILT back without spending any money that i dont have. please help?!?!
there's a moisture sensor under the battery, i think it turns pink if it has been exposed to water. if it is i guess you're SOL
white with pink dots!??!
The moisture detector is where you're "dead in the water" (ha ha)..
Even though with the RLOD you wouldn't have been able to reflash the shipping Rom you'd probably have been okay BUT they do check for water damage.
You're better off just buying a new tilt instead of paying the same price for a refurb (which is what they'll send you).
can someone send me a picture of their tilt with the battery taken out so i can compare what the moisture sticker looks like compared to mine... i m gonna figure out a way to "cheat the system" i guess... i really cant afford to buy another "regular" cell phone let alone a tilt.
here you go
Here is mine. The red outline shows my water damage sticker.

ok my sticker definitely has pink dots on it... but its not entirely pink... you think i can slide by changing that sticker to a normal white one... because my phone worked after it had a lil water... haha but after that i got the RLOD. i really regret taking my tilt for a swim... accidentally that is.
Hi, My name is Hooty, I'm an HTC Killer. Tonight marks my 7th HTC phone to be destroyed in some form in my possession...
1. Jasjar - Screen
2. Dash - Screen shatter - replaced
3. Dash - Charging Circuit Fried
4. Advantage - Screen - replaced it.... then...
5. Advantage - Charging Circuit Fried (both related to 1 single bad charger...)
6. Diamond Euro - Slammed in a door and frame bent (screen survived miraculously, but permanently mis-aligned)
7. Diamond US - Fell in to a puddle from my laptop bag....
So this leads me up to my next question, the internals of the Diamond Euro seem to be just fine, it was just the frame and exterior that are bad, with the exception being the screen... Is it feasible to change out the radio and any other boards affect by the water for the unwatered down parts from the Euro version? or are they non-interchangeable? I am not worried about the 3G capability as I use T-mobile US and of course they use off-frequencies for their 3G..... I have the manual downloaded and definitely have all of the tools (have done the screens on all of my devices myself, so technical prowess isn't the issue). Just need to know the interchangeability of the parts....

i would have thought the main board etc would be generic.
hmmm, let the phone drip dry over night in a warm room (after pulling sim, stylus, battery and back) and it seems to be doing alright with the exception of the triggered moisture indicator.... maybe I got lucky this time....

My wife's blue angel fell in the toilet... don't ask. Same thing though, I thought it was toast but after it had fully dried it worked fine, I won't comment on the smell Seriously though it lasted until I got sick of it.

whats your water damaged phone story? did it survive?? or anything else electronic that is water damaged
ill start with mine: during soccer i was subbing and i wanted water and so in a hurry threw the bottle on the bag which led it to get my phone wet, everything was wet and it would not turn on. kept it in rice for a night and it started working till today. btw it was a touch pro 2
Was drinking one night and had to pee really bad... ran to the urinal and as I started to pee I heard a clank but didn't pay much attention. After I was done I looked down only to see that I had just peed all over a phone that looked like mine... and that phone was currently in the process of being sucked down the urinal drain. I never saw it again. It was a palm pre and wasn't really missed very much.

The first phone of mine that has met water was my old HTC Touch The reason I came to xda It was a snowday, and I'd zipped up my pockets, got home forgot it was in there, got changed and Bam! in the washing machine
so is now A broken phone that plays a dodgy noise when plugged in
Which is why I invest in otterboxes if I can.

When I was younger I had a Gameboy (Which one I don't remember :/) and I dropped it down the toilet.
I was sad.
Once, me and my mate were in his back garden having a water fight, and he had his bag on the floor.
So first i stood on his bag and then just messing i squirted the hose pipe in it so it was full of water and he went MAD!!!!!
I emptied his bag and a few books and his mp3 player fell out lol!!!
I then realised why he went mad, it was crused and dripping with water.
I took it home, took the battery out and put it on the radiator to dry overnight.
Put a battery in it and it come on!!!
Played music and worked!
It had a cracked screen but worked.
LOL!!!!
6 months later he bought an iPiss.

2 years ago I had a cheap digital watch that was supposed to be waterproof, went for a swim and it became dead meat.
I bought a casio after and it is still working
However I had another incident with my smuggled SE M600i
I went home one day and it was really dirty, so instead of choosing the good LCD cleaner, I went for alcohol , and wiped the whole device.
Two minutes later the touch screen died I was WTF?
it was too late when my brother enlightened me with the information that alcohol degrades touch screens
no one knew how to fixed it and thought it was Chinese sh*t
fixed it after I bought my TP2 thx to me and to a Chinese spare parts site
very confusing to see such a thread! i think im master in destroying my phones
first one i lost was on a rock festival where i fell straigt into the mud with my phone in my pocket. phone was down immediately
my second phone i lost was when i was drunk and want to get some beer out of a fountain where it was for cooling... so it was dark and i thought it's useful to use my phone as a lamp ...u can think what happens next
and the third i just lost while i'm on tour - mine and my girlfirend's phone together.
this were phones like nokia or samsung, now im on nexus one and i guard it "with my life" everytime i go on a party i take my old SE
cheers
So I`m on AT&T (More people here to see this) I had to get my 2 month old HTC One replaced it was PERFECT! Perfect screen, No gaps, no issues. Plugged it up one afternoon and it started smoking (Even WITH HTC Cable and charger) Plugged it up 3 different times and it started smoking melted that charger port good! haha.
Anyway AT&T Sent a "Referb" Replacement Its got some scratches and scuffs lightly like it was used! (I like changing phones a lot so it kinda hurts resell) But everything else about the phone seems Great! besides that But I called and they sent another replacement which would be replacement #2
I got it seemed to be referbed no scratches in good shape! But the screen had a yellowish Tint! very noticable when holding two HTC One`s Together.
Replacement #3 which I got today was BRAND NEW it had the No Txting And driving Slip that use on NEW phones Phone has a TINY gap not enough to be bothersom but screen has a Warmish tint and looks to have some red tint on the Bottom Right conner that kinda bleeds up a little bit. I called and there sending another one!
So After having the phone on after about an hour it seems no where near as bad as it was when I first turned it on with the red tint issue still a bit warm though is there any curing time with these screens?
I've had an HTC One M7 since september 2013. I've replaced it with an LG G4 last July, but it remained in use for extra game accounts (mostly Clash of Clans) and has sat on my desk in its otterbox for the last 7 months and has not left that desk or been used for anything else but those games. This phone has never been dropped, either.
Tonight, I was dropping trophies on this clash of clans account when I suddenly noticed an orange discoloration on the lower left portion of the screen. It persisted when I hit home and navigated other screens. Puzzled, I looked closer and noticed the screen is bowing out. I can see a small gap starting to form at the center between the glass and the phone's bezel. I can even push it down a little and it comes back up. I took it out of its case and it looks pretty bad.
I have no idea what's causing it to do this suddenly, I haven't mishandled the phone ever. Even worse so, what would cause this if the phone has been pretty much sitting in one place for 7 months? Some basic googling about the problem reveals that this can happen if the battery is swelling. The phone DOES get really hot when I play any game on it, but it always was this way... HTC One M7 seems to be a heat generator. Could my battery actually be swelling? Is there an easy way to tell that this is the reason, and not just the screen's glue wearing off or whatever they used to keep it in the bezel? From what I understand, this phone's battery could explode and either harm me or set fire to my area. I have taken it off the battery charger and turned the phone off and plan to leave it that way until I figure out what's going on.
This HTC One was bought from an AT&T store and was a part of my plan with them, and I'm using its original charging cable. I have run a battery statistics app on the phone and it claims to be in good health, though the operating temperature was kinda high, at 114 F. But do keep in mind I was just running a game moments before.
Can anyone help shed light on how I can figure out what's wrong and possibly fix it? Given the HTC One doesn't have a removable battery, I'm guessing I am down one android device and thus no longer have a unique device to maintain the game accounts... I don't know what to do, or how worried I should be about this.
Hi,
The battery is replaceable, it's just a pain and will take a bit of research and time. I've replaced the screen and battery on mine with no damage whatsoever to the case.
I have a new camera and top speaker waiting to go into my m7 now as I have the purple tint and fuzzy audio issues. My m7 is a Frankenstein phone as it is due to a black front and silver back.
Check out the various you tube videos on tear down. You will have to dissemble the entire phone as the battery is behind the screen. I found you need a guitar pick a Philips 00 screwdriver (I think that's the size) and a plastic pry tool. If your phone is glued shut then work in the pick and wait a few minutes then work it in a little further. The glue seems to release with no damage if you let it slowly separate under slight pressure and don't force it.
If it's your battery that's swelling then I'd hold off using it. Lithium batteries are scary when they malfunction.
Good luck!
