just got t mobile flex - LG G Flex

Coming from att note ii after i lost my phone. Went to t mobile kiosk and signed up for 60$plan plus picked up nice curvy lg g flex. I am planning to root soon anything i need to know as a new user?? So far this phone is looking great however wonder how it compared to my old lost note ii in terms of performance,

The flex destroys the note 2 in terms of performance and battery life. The only downside is the lack of development. There are a few guys working on stuff. My previous phone was also note 2. There was more development for that phone than any other i have seen. I do miss that part.

As fo rooting I went with Towelroot, works like a charm.

I also am a former net . 2 owner. The best custom at start in my opinion was Jedi, then it was DN3. Anyway I have a rogers g flex, same model as the AT&T version and I have tried everything to root this thing. Towelroot and ioroot didn't work on 4.4.2. They only work for limited models on 4.4.2, but all 4.2.2, so the only way for me to root is downgrade. Is there a method I don't know about? Any help would be great, like you said limited support

Should I get the Note 4?

I am happy with my Note 3 but want to use my Jump and get the latest phone. I am pretty much ready to get the Note 4 but I am worried about the amount of threads talking about problems. The amount seems to be a lot higher that it was when the Note 3 came out. I realize there will always be problems but I don't want to regret jumping from a perfectly good Note 3 to having problems with the Note 4.
Should I be worried or is it really not as buggy problematic as it seems to be?

Get the Note 4 . It is not buggy and since you have Jump then you dont have to worry about tripping Knox . All these rRoms that are based off stock are amazing and I have zero bugs. By the way I would suggest selling your Note 3 outright . You will get more for it than they will give you for jump most likely . I had the S5 and I was gonna Jump and trade it in but they were only gonna cover $315 . I sold my GS5 for $415 and paid off my device and got an extra $100 compared to what they were giving me . You wont regret getting it .Although the Note 3 is a great phone the Note 4 is more powerful and has 64bit dual channel memory instead of 32bit . Not to mention the screen is amazing and the phone is built out of Metal

Also what threads are you talking about? Problems? I have absouletly no issues with mine. This is the most powerful phone out and not to mention is built awesome and if you use TouchWiz it has quite a few new useful features . The new multi window is awesome. t a floating window you can resize . By far my favorite phone I have eveer owned ( and there have been many many phones)
Been using my note 4 for a couple days. I don't see any bug. However, I suggest you keep your Note 3. My dad is using a Note 3 and honestly I don't see any absolutely must-buy feature of my Note 4. The Note 4 is a better Note 3 and that's it.
The screen alone is worth the upgrade. The screen on note 3 is too dim and doesn't go super low on brightness at night

there are no bugs; anyone reporting that either has a defective phone or they dont know what they are doing..
this is the #1 android phone out now, no question..
Yeah, what threads are you referring to? I see maybe .0001% of people with challenges. And no, the Note 3 has MUCH more problems than the Note 4 at launch.
I'm personally confuse about all these bug you are referring to...you sure you been in the right forum? lol
If you do not want to get it because of all the bugs...I will suggest you look around again, I do not see anything about bugs
As if to upgrade, thats up to you. Note 4 is a better Note 3, all there is to it. Its not like jumping from a Note 2 to a Note 3. Note 4 is how the Note 3 should have been (minus that screen)
Coming from an s5 I am in love with my note 4 to the point where I will just buy the Note line
Buggy wasn't my main point, I said and mainly meant threads about problems. It also isn't the amount of threads but just the overall amount of comments from different people who have said they have problems is what concerned me. Here are some examples of threads but there are also comments within other threads were people are talking about the problem they are having. I am not going to track down everything that I have read since its release.
My main point is just the overall feeling of the quality control maybe not being the best this time around or just getting the feeling that waiting a bit for things to get ironed out might be best. The bad reception thread was the big flag at first and concerned me the most. Some people have said the regretted going to the Note 4 from the Note 3 so that is just why I was asking to see what the current feelings are.
Thanks for the replies!

Like others comment ... You should sell your note 3 you will get more for your device ... But upgrading from the note3 you should the screen is amazing and you will love it ... I personally haven't had no lag from my side ...
Note 4 exceeds all expectations. As a heavy user, I haven't run into any major bugs nor have I had any hw issues. Although I'm a fan of nexus, this was the obvious choice due to all the value samsung had built into this device.
As for upgrading from n3, I wouldn't (unless my name was dwitherell year to year advancements are too insidious for me to justify cost. Which is why I choose to upgrade every other year. Tbh my n2 was still a beast at the time I retired her.
I currently owe $408 on the phone and I am on the original jump plan so I don't have to have half the phone paid off. My original purchase price was only $612 so I am not to deep into my Note 3. The sooner I jump, the better off I will be. I got the phone back at the end of January so I am not upset about the ~ $200 I have into this phone.

If you are on the original jump, there is no requirement to pay half off. you can jump once every six month on the original jump. The jump 2 however, requires half to beer payed of in order to jump.
As to upgrading from note 3, while a very serious device, is trumped by note 4 in almost every aspect. The screen on note 3 is garbage.
Well I am one of three people in my office that got the Note 4 and all of us love it and none of us have had any problems. Of course if you go out to forums for any device you will find people with problems.

Yeah the original Jump is actually worth it . The new Jump doesnt really have anything to offer at all . If you own the phone for a year you can get more for it selling it yourself rather than getting low balled by Tmobile

OK so the XT1092, I believe that qualifies for bootloader unlocking. If so, then you can root and flash custom ROMs.
In the US, you could expect to sell a good condition SIM unlocked LG G3 with 32GB of storage for about $325-$350.. For 16GB MX14 Pure Edition in good condition, you could expect about $285-$300. So it is not an even trade if your LG G3 has 32GB of storage.

I don't think he meant to imply that anything is wrong, it is just that there isn't a lot of development for the MX14. So if you want a lot of choice in custom ROMs you may not want the MX14.
Check the development forums here to see what I mean.

I have never had an LG G3 so I can't compare other than what I have seen playing with display devices. The MX14 doesn't have as good of a camera as the LG G3 and with my MX14 I need to use my turbo charger to get me through the day but I tether my computer to my phone a lot, which uses a lot of battery.
What I like about my MX14 is that it works very reliably as a phone - it can pick up weaker signals than the iP6 and fewer dropped calls. It is near stock android, which I really like as well as the extra motorola software like Assist, active display, wave to silence and touchless controls. It feels great in the hand too. And it is stylish looking.
The screen is big enough w/o being too big. I like AMOLED screens but I think you need to do some color correction with the app CF Lumen to get the whites to pop and that requires root.
I have both the G3 (well not me, but a family member) and the 2014 X. Here's the upshot:
Both the G3 and the Moto X have great displays and performance (ignore the Quad HD res, it doesn't make a big enough difference). The X 2014 does have a pink/purple hue when the brightness gets low, but it's not a deal breaker. The G3 has the better camera, but not by far. The X has the better flash though; I've found the ring flash on the Moto X far and away the best LED flash on a phone. The Moto X does not know lag; the worst you'll ever see is waiting for the home-screen to redraw., while the G3 does have some performance issues, especially with Lollipop. And while some G3 units have great battery life, apparently not this one as it needs a top up sometimes to make it to the end of the day, while my X will almost certainly get me 14 hours every charge (though I do baby the X a lot more). Your mileage will vary, as always. But perhaps the biggest advantage the Moto X has is the pure build of Android on top. It'll get fast software updates (though LG surprisingly beat it to the punch with Lollipop in certain markets, but not where I live. The X got the update in December, the G3 in January) and it will likely age better over time, not to mention the fact that it has less duplicate apps (one browser, one music app, but unfortunately two gallery apps). It's also important to point out the G3 is an older phone, and the Moto X will likely get further with new Android versions. One last thing to note, the G3 gets conceringly warm when playing games, so there's that. But likely the biggest thing you'll sacrifice by picking the X is the flexibility the G3 offers, no microSD, no removable battery, and none of the customizability LG's software offers (it lets you pick things like transition, screen turning on and off animations, while the X won't even let you change the font).
I'm liking the x way more then the g3. G3 lags way too much on stock and they just can't seam to get asop working properly... Too bad cause it really flies using it.
Also the size of the x is perfect for me and the phone build is more solid.
As a former G3 owner....THIS

Are any of your S8 devices lagging?

I really want to jump back in and do Samsung again, but my S6 Edge lagged so bad that I swore off Samsung because of it. Just like every other Samsung device I've had for more than 6 months - lag, lag, lag and bad battery life adding to the misery.
Now that some of you have gotten acclimated to your S8s, how are they holding up? I'm really hoping that the infamous Samsung lag is a thing of the past.
Thanks all.
No lag here.
My S8 Plus is hands down the smoothest, quickest responding phone I have ever owned (& I've owned just about every high end phone ever made).
I installed Nova Plus launcher today but that was just so I could have more custom options etc. It ran super with the TouchWiz launcher also.
~~John
No lag here. Works fine. Have had the phone a couple months.
Had mine for about a month and a half and no lag at all so far.
This is my first Samsung phone and am pleasantly surprised given Samsung's Touchwiz history. I've always had either Motorolas or HTC-M8, M9 phones but have had numerous Samsung tablets and Touchwiz was horrible and slow which put me off getting a Samsung phone. After hearing Samsung cleaned up and optimized Touchwiz for the S8, I thought I would give it a try and am quite happy.
It's still lags depends what you all got on your phone as for smoothest phone is the pixel xl now the lg g6 don't lag n I got moto z force droid it's ok device

Is this supposed to be English??
The S6 was a terrible phone in my opinion. Not only was the battery weak but it overheated after just a few minutes using Gear VR. I got rid of mine after a couple of months and went back to my S4, a much better phone. My S8 is the best I have owned. As far as lagging, you will not find a phone where there isn't someone complaining about lag. Just check the forums.

Snapdragon or Exynos

Many people assume that this choice only depends on if you want root, however, there are other things to consider:
-network compatibility
-warranty
-performance difference
-power efficiency
-ram management
-promotions
-obvious root and bootloader
With all of that in mind, which variant are you going for, and why?
How do you suppose Exynos/Snapdragon choice is connected to root? You can have it on both.

Exynos hands down.
I refuse to drop $1300 on a device and not be able to do what u want with it.
Exynos is better on battery and just a smoother experience overall and yes ive has snap and exynos versions of the note 7 and s8 plus to compare.
Network compatibility isnt an issue here in Canada (if your on CDMA your screwed for the exynos version)
Could care less about warranty and lets face it...if your on xda and worried about warranty you may be in the wrong place. Development and warranty do not go well together.
You may lose some features on an international device such as wifi calling etc but if you dont care about that and want root, twrp, roms etc your out of your mind to buy a snapdragon.
Its funny how ive seen on the s7,note 7 and s8 when ppl buy the snap version then whine and moan the BL is locked and takes forever to even get root....lol whos fault is that? Buy the appropriate device based on your needs. People arent too bright it would seem?

Sort of.
The root on the snaps is based on engineering firmware and has disadvantages as compared to SU or magisk.
You just cant compare the two... not to mention no twrp...no kernels and there will be very few roms.

Exynos gets root right away. Snapdragon takes months, and is not as good. You have to flash a weird universal stock rom that won't even let you charge past 80% (at least on s8+).
Exynos ftw!

Preordered the note 8 unlocked snapdragon because I'm on Verizon. Got the unlocked version just in case root is not possible and the resale value is better for unlocked phones. Really hope root is possible though!! So snapdragon s8 root was achieved? That's promising!!
My only issue is Wifi Calling/SMS is a really nice feature and AT&T is evil and makes you buy their version to use it due to the IMEI whitelist.
Could someone explain to me why people prefer the exynos? isn't the SD835 more widely used, making it easier to build custom firmwares to?

I've never looked into buying an Exynos version before but I won't buy a locked down phone.
I'm on Samsung's site right now. Can anyone tell me how I know I'm getting the Exynos version as it doesn't say on there.
HW Lottery usually works in favor of the Exynos:
Bootloader easier to unlock (SD835 will have numbers but requires a lot more effort wrt unlocking)
UFS Version (wrt GS8) 2.0 v 2.1
Radio SD Has CDMA
Camera Sensors: Sony v Samsung (not clearly SOC dependent)
Theres a few reasons.. not all linked but generally Exy version is slightly better.

Couple small corrections.
The exynos bootloaders are not and have never been locked.
The snapdragon bootloaders will never see an unlock (the s7s are still locked).
If you want development forget the snapdragon and go exynos

Go with whatever you choose, there will be development for both. It may take a little more time for the snap, but the best dev's love the challenge.
If someone who isn't a dev is telling you there won't be development, i wouldn't really listen to that advice.
Anandtech did a comparission recently and the 835 is faster. I live in UK so have no choice, Exynos it is, but im fairly sure that the old idea that Exynos is "better" has been disproven.

There will some but very little development for the snap. Without twrp possible for the device i dont know why you would think otherwise?
Exynos will have root and twrp within the first week of release and roms and kernels shortly thereafter...just as on the s7, note 7 and S8 .
Thats not my opinion thats fact based on past history and personal experience as I have owned all of those devcies.

Again speaking as someone who has owned both snap and exynos versions of the note 7 and s8 the exynos is a smoother overall experience with less lag. Exynos certainly has better battery life.
If you haven't owned both and are relying soley on some tests done a website thats just what you read you cannot say based on personal experience.

I still love my LG G Flex. 2 things I'd like. I'll settle for 1.

I love my LG G Flex D950. I rooted it a year after release with a great deal of help from XDAers. As current developement was abandoned VERY quickly. I tried to replace it with 2 or 3 different phones. But I couldn't get used to a smaller screen. Recently got a new to me Mint used Motorola Nexus 6. If one of the following had happened I'd still use a G Flex over anything. If I could have the N6 hardware in G Flex form I'd throw the N6 off a cliff. And I really like my N6.
I used this site to make sure my mint N6 screen size wasn't dinky.

So many cool things about the LG G Flex. I love the curved screen, the feel, the build is impeccable, the back buttons. I don't think I've ever picked up a better feeling phone.
So #1 I wish there was current development. If there was I'd to reroot or unroot & root with a better method. Then install a current ROM. OMG the rooting was so complex. I don't think I dared a recovery after a while because it was so twitchy.
#2 I'm wishing for a LG G Flex 3 with the same form & size, higher screen to body ratio so a 6.2"+ screen, 4GB+ RAM, 64GB, microSD, front stereo speakers, unlocked bootloader. Basically everything the same except the a fore mentioned improvements.
What a great phone, agreed! Very sadly that LG didn't keep releasing more flexes. Imagine a LG G Flex with slim bezels.
You like big phones? You may consider Xiaomi. Like Mi Max 3, Mi Mix 3 or Mi 9.
bought the flex and super sad there is no development on it. I for sure would be a tester if anybody wants to go old-school on this thing... I am currently running KitKat, which is by far my favorite however a lot of apps now require lollipop or higher..
All right I'm sorry that's my rant LOL
