[Q] Sending back to HTC to "repair" camera? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my HTC M7 like many others has the purple tint, that I haven't really cared about so much.
I want to know if anyone that sent in their phone was the phone back to S-on? I assume that the phone will be factory reset. ALL USER DATA will be wiped, and root lost.
biggest concern will S-On be back, on? haha
If anyone knows thanks.

It depends very much on your situation I suppose. If your returning it for warranty repair, HTC may claim that since the device is modified the warranty is void and charge you for the repair. Although HTC did admit the purple tint problem was a manufacturing defect, so may just replace the camera and return it as is.
If there's no warranty and your paying for the repair anyway, I don't see that it has anything to do with HTC what modifications you've made and simply requesting the phone be left with s-off should be your decision.
I returned mine under warranty, but set it back to stock with s-on before sending. They just replaced the camera module and returned it, I had no problems getting s-off with firewater a second time using the same Rom.
If you used Sunshine to s-off then you can just use it again to s-off you only have to pay once per device

Thanks, for the input.
I would be paying for the repair since I bought it in the USA and using it abroad, so I'm not covered and Ive had this for 2 years now anyways so off warranty anyways.
I used revone to s-off my phone.
And I think after updating firmware and all that im on like HBoot 1.57 or whatever the latest I forgot. Is it possible to s-off that with firewater or revone still?
I know sunshine is paid, is that the only one that can s-off 1.57?

Mine was on haboot 1.56 when I originally used firewater for s-off, second time was hboot 1.57. There are plenty of cases were users have successfully used firewater with hboot 1.57 but also plenty that it doesn't work for and had to pay for sunshine.
But if your sending it for repair and your paying for it. I don't see what it's got to do with HTC weather it's rooted, unlocked or s-off, it's your phone bought and paid for. So its up to you what you do with it. I would contact HTC about the repair and explain you wish the phone to be returned with security still off. :good:
I don't think HTC will have any problem with it. And the only reason any user goes to the trouble returning to stock is to protect their warranty.

s-on for warranty

I need to return my One for warranty purposes (I am in the Netherlands). I am wondering if I should leave my device s-off or s-on it because I am sure I will receive my One back with stocj 2.24.401.1 firmware and hboot 1.54, which isn't s-offable as easily or just lock the bootloader and leave it s-off?

It depends on what repair you need doing... if it's a mainboard replacement then they're going to flash new anyway.... they may reflash anyway.
If you leave it s-off they could refuse a warranty claim and either charge you for the repair or return it unrepaired unless you can successfully argue that it was like that when you got it.... I think I've seen somewhere that a few s-off devices made it into the supply chain.
Not an easy decision... I think on balance if it was me then I'd relock and s-on. You can still flash roms when returned and hopefully the revone team will find a way to s-off again.

Being S-Off could potentially invalidate your warranty. It's all up to you if you want to risk being charged for any repairs but if I wanted to return mine and not get charged, I would be erasing any trace that I'd modified anything ... I'd rather not have S-Off, for a while maybe, than get lumped with a bill for repairs because my warranty was void.
If you decide to return to stock and wipe the "Tampered" flag, return to S-On etc, there are guides on here I believe.

I decided to send it it s-off locked, because we can only hope revolutionary will be able to gain s-off on hboot 1.54, hopefully they will not notice it. Yesterday there was an announced that HTC unjustifiably denied warranty to people with unlocked bootloaders.
I had decided to send in my device s-off but with locked bootloader and on the repair tracker website I can see that they replaced a part apparently under warranty. I hope I'll get my device back s-off and repaired....

HTC One Conversion Dilema!?

Okay, so here goes...
A friend of a friend has a AT&T 64GB HTC One (in silver, if anyone cares...)
I, being the phone guru in the eastern parts of the GTA in Ontario (Yes, I am a Canadian, )
was contacted earlier this week to solve a rather confusing issue to which I find myself rather dumbfounded.
PROBLEM: Phone-owner rooted, unlocked the bootloader and s-off'ed using RevOne (before 1.54 hboot as not currently possible as of today). He attempted a Google Edition conversion with success or so he thought, now the phone works fine except for any carrier based service of any kind, sim is detected but, no service of any kind works. During the conversion he re-locked bootloader, flipped s-off to s-on and unrooted. Root has been re-achieved, and I'm looking into HBOOT version for s-off and the ability to re-unlock bootloader. TWRP is the currently installed recovery, when a sense-based rom is installed, it says sim is locked. I'm quite adept at android everything and this kind of stumps me and is my first take at HTC One development.
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!
UPDATE: HBOOT is 1.54 and is S-ON
I don't have a solution but I remember reading on XDA that you will screw up your phone if you switch s-off to s-on after doing the conversion.

Any ideas on where you read this or if anyone knows, I'm eager to know as I was offered to buy the dilema-ridden HTC One.
Thanks
Sounds like he screwed up his phone like some others did who were not careful enough about the GE conversion. What he did was input a conflicting MID/CID then locked that bad configuration down.
From what I've heard, installing a 4.3 rom may solve the issue. You can't currently s-off because the 1.54 hboot closed the exploit.
You could be buying an expensive mp3 player, so be careful.

Need Advice Please R.E: Camera Repair Whilst S-Off

Just need a bit of advice here. Was just wondering if I sent my phone to repair (HTC UK Service Center) under warranty, for the camera issue.
Would it affect my warranty claim if I just locked the bootloader and left it s-off?
The reason I ask is because I really don't want to lose the ability to s-off again when the device is returned repaired with the 1.54 hboot.
Please advise
Has anyone tried getting a repair done in this way yet?
Thanks in advance.

should be fine, as long there's no TAMPERED or RELOCKED on the screen, they wont say anything. however they could S-ON the device before returning it, i saw a post somewhere where that happened to a user.
Just send it in with your carrier stock ruu stock recovery non rooted so stock ruu just leave it s-off and you will be fine

Ok, thanks for the info Will give it a go, and see what happens...
Just to clarify, it should be fine to send the device in with:
1) A LOCKED bootloader
2) No TAMPERED flag
3) and S-Off still intact?
Is this for definate? Or will the fact that it's still S-Off void the warranty?
Is there a way to edit hboot to be s-off while showing on screen s-on?

Decided to revert back to s-on after what I've read over on twitter (https://twitter.com/HTC_UK/status/303902576687079424), just to be on the safe side.
It's not all bad though, at least the phone is good enough on the stock ROM for me and can't afford the extra expense at the moment of paying for repairs. Ah well, S-OFF was good while it lasted

Don't take the risk. Search for crushsalot's guide in this section. Worked for me when I sent my phone to HTC US for the same problem.

To remove the "Tampered" and to "LOCKED" the phone you need to S-OFF first. I would recommend nkk71's SuperGuide in my signature it is easy to follow and very complete. The one issue you may have to S-OFF is your high hboot number; firewater would be my first choice and if it failed "whelp this sucks" message then Sunshine is you only option but it will cost $25. One thing to think about concerning the cost, which would be more costly Sunshine or the repair?
well I went to m local EE store and they sent my hone for repair I still had the tampered icon etc on my phone when sent . Anyway they repaired my camera free of charge and they never said a word about tampering with my phone. Thanks for everybody's help

[Q] Sending M7 back to repair (Purple Camera)

Hi All
I am currently in a bit of a predicament, i bought a second hand one m7 and i foolishly unlocked the bootloader and proceeded to install TWRP on the phone
After spending hours trying to S-OFF my HBOOT 1.57 with nearly every method that was posted on the internet i decided to give up. It was only then i realised that my M7 has the purple camera problem and now seeing that it still has warranty, i want to return it to get it fixed.
Except it has the tampered and unlocked flags and im concerned that they might refuse my warranty claim. Can anyone with past experience provide some insight on what will happen
The phone is running a carrier branded firmware and has no RUU.
Some times they refuse to repair it. Sometimes they accept it. Depends on your location and the service you are sending it in.
As for my opinion I tell you that you are safe if you are sending it locked and s-on and tampered flag gone. If you have some money you can s-off it with sunshine http://theroot.ninja/
I´ve send HTC One M7 to official HTC Service center for my region (Czech Republic) with the same problem- Purple photos.
The phone was Unlocked and S-On.
They changed me my One M7 for new HTC One M8,becasue they haven´t got substitute parts for One M7.

So i decided to send it back today in its current state. Relocking the bootloader would just make things even more suss since it would say "relocked" and would imply that i tried to cover things up
When i sent it in i turned on fast boot within the power menu and i set a pattern lock so it will force my carrier's service team to wipe the device. Speaking with one of the devs of SunShine he told me that flashing a RUU removes the tampered flag
Hoping for the best
