Hi,
Two days ago, I got my first Samsung Gear Live. Ordered it directly from Google Play. When I wanted to start it by holding the button down a few seconds, it didn't react. I tried to charge it, but nothing seemed to happen: Nothing on the display, and the charger didn't get warm either, even after hours of charging (I tried multiple ones, and directly connecting it to USB on my PC). I thought that I was just out of luck and so I sent it back and got a replacement. Today, the replaced Gear Live arrived, and I have exactly the same problem. Not turning on, not charging, nothing. To find out if it was actually charging, I plugged it up to my lab power supply and found it drew ~330mA for a second, then stopped drawing anything at all. Sometimes it would decide to draw something again after 10 or 20 seconds, and sometimes it does so when I hit/hold the power button, but it will always stop shortly afterwards, and nothing else seems to happen.
Now, I have already called the support, and will hopefully get a third replacement soon. Just wanted to post this here to ask if anybody has experienced something like that. I can't believe I got two totally dead ones in a row. I'm still thinking I might have done something wrong, but... I mean, it's a smartwatch with a single button and a charging clip, what could possibly go wrong?
I feel for you, I got a dead on arrival and had it shipped to New Zealand at my own expense and back again, worth it for android wear though.
I'm living the same! I just got the second and the watch won't charge or turn on!
---------- Post added at 11:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:49 AM ----------
I think I begin to understand. Watches in stock inventories are discharged and can not take their loads!
Just got my THIRD watch, and surprise: Doesn't work either. Exactly the same problem. Won't turn on, won't charge. This time I will try to let it charge over night, maybe the battery decides to randomly start loading after hours, for whatever reason. I don't have much hope though.
Otherwise, I'll send it in and get my money back. I suppose I'll have to look out for other smartwatch models that I like then. It's just a shame, because I really like the design of the Gear Live.
Same here. I have 2 pcs of Gear Live and both aren't working
Same problem here. I just received my third Gear Live from Google play. Doesn't work...
Charged it overnight, still nothing, so I'll send it back again.
Just got my THIRD watch too, and guess what?: Doesn't work either. Exactly the same problem. Won't turn on, won't charge. so I ask to the support of google play to find a solution!
My 3rd is DOA. My first 2 worked though.
Here is what NOT to do with a smart watch that I can do with my citizen echo drive (took 3 years to break that but covered under the 5 year warranty).
Go shooting with it. I think I blew out the microphone because it stopped responding to voice commands.
Run a saws all. We have been building a deck and after a weekend of cutting wood, it stopped counting my steps.
I hope watch # 4 is good! I promise to be more gentle with it
I'm waiting on my third RMA from Google. The other two were dead on arrival also. If the third one is DOA too, I may just ask for a refund or possibly getting the Asus Zen watch instead.
My 4th is DOA. I'm trying to decide if I just want a refund or if I should try the ifixit route.
Same here: 2 consecutive DOAs
I had a watch with a broken charging clip and got a replacement. Guess what: DOA! So I send it back and got a second replacemente: Again DOA. So I was offered a refund.
It's irritating how many DOAs the have. Maybe the lion bats in the watches discharge to death and cannot be revived.
Hey My 4th is DOA again \o/ L'ets try a other one !
Got my second replacement to Germany via Google Play. Both of them DOA. I'm nearly sure, that the third Watch also would be DOA. Maybe I'm gonna make a uncut Movie like makakiel from the unboxing of the third replacement ...
I got my Gear Live from Google Japan and it worked OK for about 3 months. I usually turn it off in the evening and give it an overnight charge. Then a couple of weeks ago, it would not power up in the morning. I change to another charging station and after several hours, it was still dead. So, I RMA to Japan and got a replacement; my heart dropped when it was DOA. Am now arranging for a second RMA and if this again arrives DOA, then I will ask for a refund (but not sure whether this is easy enough to obtain in Japan).
I think Samsung has a big problem in their hands. Judging from what I have read, this power-up failure problem seems widespread. Is Google/Samsung doing anything about this?
I send the vidéo to google! and they don't really care ! ....

I sent my DOA Gear Live back to Google PlayStore Japan for a (yet another!) RMA replacement, but has been informed that they are out-of-stock and I have to wait for replenishments to arrive. I guess the Samsung Gear Live is at the end of its production cycle - a short one indeed!
same here, possible solution

I plugged in the watch for a few minutes, then pressed the button. It will show the battery and that it was charging and then it would go away. It looks like it was way too drained. I would unplug and plug it back in and I will do the same and then it would turn off again. Eventually I just left it for a longer time and when I press the button multiple times it loaded. I was able to do the setup and then it went from 40 percent to life 3%.knowing that it have worked it before this time I let it charge for a few hours. when I got home I turned it on and it worked. The first day it only last me 10 hours. I read lithium batteries reach their full potential after two to three charges. are you at least getting the battery icon or charging icon on the screen?. basically plug in for a few minutes like around 3 minutes and then press the button a few times and see if anything shows up so at least you know it's not totally dead

Hey guys...seriously need your help,
I just got the note a month ago and i'm pretty amazed by it's capabilities. this is my first android phone and i'm kind of new to it. I hope i didn't make something dumb, yet i flashed my note with a .tar file just to add arabic language to it as it's not in by default. I follow the instructions explained on the webpage literally using Odin3. I got a passed flash and then disconnected the note as explained. since then it doesn't turn on. I tried almost everything using all kinds of button combinations to get to either download or recovery mode but nothing came out of the screen it's simply dead.....very disappointed, wish anyone could help me please....Thank you.
seems you have bricked your phone, if it does absolutely nothing it is bricked
Tried yanking out the battery and reseating?
Try getting Download mode with JIG
You may get JIG from market, or manually make with this guide
http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-make-samsung-galaxy-s-download.html
If the phone wants to start, you can do something. If absolutely no,then it is bad.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
My Galaxy Note won't turn on too. The problem came after I was downloading a magazine from Zinio using the Reader's Hub app. Before I started the download, my battery level was almost empty. In the middle of the download, the phone died before I could get the chance to plug it in to charge it. Unfortunately when I tried to recharge it using the stock USB cable, the phone wouldn't turn on anymore. I plugged it in my computer but it did not recognize any USB device being plugged into it. It's as if I didn't plugged in the device at all. I've tried every button combination to reset the device as well as try other batteries and then tried the button combinations again to no avail. There was absolutely no response from the phone.
It was pretty obvious at that point that my Note was bricked. It's been only 2 weeks since I bought it and I'm really frustrated that this happened, especially now that I'm already hooked with Android coming from IOS devices for a while.
I decided to send it back to a Samsung Service Center for their evaluation. The front line technicians couldn't get my device to turn on as well. The attendee told me that they will have to keep the unit for further evaluation and told me that I have to wait for 3 business days before informing me of the results. I'm hoping that they would just replace my device with a new one.

Thanks. Yep, I sobbed for a bit after the attendee told me they need to keep it for further evaluation and no service unit was available.
My hunch on what happened to my Note was that it was writing to the flash when the power went out and did not get the chance to finish the write cycle. Thus, the unit was left out with a corrupted flash. I'm thinking that the OS should have prevented this from happening since it should know that the battery is about to die out. Moreover, even if the main flash got corrupted, there should have been a different controller (MCU, FPGA or similar) apart from the main processor which contain a boot loader code of some sort that would kick in to enable recovery of the device even if the main flash is corrupted.
I've been browsing through other threads under the SGN forum pertaining to units that won't respond to key presses to reset the device or to enter into downloading mode. I'm now lead to believe that there is no redundant system inside the Note that will ensure device recovery. Can anybody here who knows the hardware on the Note confirm or debunk this? Anybody from Samsung here?
I've been working with IOS devices (different iPhones) for a while now and had, on a number of occasions, made mistakes in jailbreaking the device but I would always be able to trust that I could re-enter DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode with some key press combinations and be able to recover the device completely. I think this is absent on the Note.
I was hoping that the Note had this feature.
anybody here who encountered a similar problem?
I have the same problem. At the morning a tried to turn on my SGN, but no response. All th simptoms the same: no charging, no reactions to buttons combinations, no PC detection.

Can you describe what exactly happened before you bricked your SGN? Have you done any further evaluations so far or have you sent your unit to the service center too?
I'm just curious, where did you get your SGN from? I'm from the Philippines and got mine from Abenson's.
I'll keep you posted as soon as I get additional information from the service center.
Good luck to us.

I'm not sure if our problem is somehow related to this as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422781
This is regarding a faulty USB interface. Could it be a weak USB interface circuit design or a weak bootloader implementation? The root cause will certainly be useful so that we can take extra precautions in the future as we work with the SGN.
same problem
I have the note, just a week old.
was reading a book when the display went all bizzare.
I had to remove the battery to shut it down.
Never got it to boot so far..
PC does not detect it and it doesn't charge either..
I am taking it to the service center in the morning, will update everyone on what they say.

I traveled at the train on vacation and connected my SGN to this device for charging and it became charging. At the morning I tried to power on SGN but it was bricked. I'm from Russia but now I'm in Ukrain and can't send my SGN to service center.
After the visit to the service center.

Hey guys,
updating as promised.
the service center tried to "upgrade" software: I guess that's code for flashed new ROM.
After which they told me that the "Motherboard" is being replaced and that I have to wait till tomorrow noon.
So there you are guys, Motherboard
Will update further once I have more details.
I called-up the local Samsung service center today to follow-up on my unit and informed me that they will be replacing the motherboard as well. They said that they already ordered the replacement board from Korea and should arrive within the next 3 days. Darn.
Although I'm happy that I will have my unit repaired, I'm still a bit worried that until the root cause is determined, I may end up with bricking my Note again given the same circumstances.
What part of the motherboard is responsible for bricking the device then? We need to get to the bottom of this in order to avoid the same thing from happening again or determine whether this is really because of a faulty hardware design.
I agree..

I agree Wolfmanx, I have asked for a detailed report on how this happened. Now that I know more people are facing the same issue, I will ask them for more details.
Cheers!
Almost same issue
I just got my phone delivered by Fedex. I unboxed it, slapped in the battery, charged it and tried to turn it on. The only thing that happened was the boot up chime. The screen never turned on and still won't light up. I can hear the sound all right, so I know the machine is not completely bricked, but the screen never activates and the 2 capacitive buttons never light up either.
It's really frustrating since I took the day off to play with it. Such a fine piece of hardware, but it seems to be very fragile and prone to problems.
Hey guys. Not a regular user of the Note but my brother bought one about a week ago and got into the same issue some of you guys have had. Basically the Note was left uncharged (he plugged the Micro USB into the phone but forgot to plug the other end into a power source) overnight. When he woke up in the morning the phone was off, wouldn't turn on and didn't respond to any button combo. It also wouldn't charge even after trying with several different cables and leaving the cable in for several minutes.
Anyway we bought the phone back to the AIS (a carrier in Thailand) shop. Got to talk with a rather condescending salesperson who insisted that we had to take the phone to a Samsung customer service centre. Pretty frustrating experience but that's another story.
When we finally got to the Samsung repair centre, some technicians looked at the phone and determined that the battery has run flat out. This is not the normal "complete discharge" you would see in normal operation of a battery where there will be some voltage left in the battery. The battery was discharged completely in such a way that there was no voltage left which means that the charging mechanism on the phone doesn't detect any battery being inside the compartment.
Anyway the technician "jump-started" the battery by putting a bit of charge in it and after that the phone would charge and turn on fine. We were told that if the problem happens again leaving the phone in the charger for a while would fix the problem, and if that fails you can take the battery to a technician to jump-start it. Basically we can just avoid the problem by not draining the battery completely in the first place.
The customer service lady also claimed that this is a common problem for all Samsung phones, which is a bold-faced lie since I've owned several Samsung phones and never had any problem like this. Any decent electronic device should be designed to cut down the power before the battery has a chance to completely deplete in the first place anyway. It had been a long day by then so we didn't have the energy to call them out on this. We also didn't want to replace or repair the phone, since we are going abroad tomorrow and they don't have any new Galaxy Note in stock for immediate replacement.
So the root of the problem seems to be some sort of hardware or software problem that would cause the battery to occasionally completely drain. Not sure if this problem would affect all Galaxy Notes or just certain units. Since my brother will be keeping the same phone I will keep you guys updated if this problem happens again.
tl;dr, it's a problem with battery charging

Actually, this is what happens to all rechargeable devices when completely drained and left that way for a long time. That's why I try to avoid calibrating batteries unless it's really necessary. But the technician is right, sometimes you only need to leave it plugged in to revive the battery. I've tried this a lot and I still get nervous every time.
Had that problem with my Evo, left it charging over night and the battery came back to life
Hiya,
My Gear Live arrived today after shipping it overseas and I've got it plugged into my old gear 1 charger due to USA plug shipped but there's no sign of it charging, doesn't want to power on via the button either.

Not a fan of quality control.
Got my second device, and it powered up had 65% battery life out of the box.
Sounds like you have the same issue.

Yeah, I'm not holding out hope for Samsung NZ helping, so it's gonna cost a bit to send it back to the states for RMA.
I was soo excited when it arrived but no.
If you got it from Google they would provide return shipping of the defective watch.
The only thing is they actually ask you to go through the motion of purchasing a second watch, so if they do not get the original watch back they would charge you after I think 20 days.
Me I called them,
They emailed me the instructions, UPS label.
I clicked on the link ordered the replacement.
Taped up the original defective watch, used the supplied UPS label.
Dropped the box at UPS drop box location.
They sent out the replacement the same day.
The original defective watch arrived at Google in two days.
Got an email the cost of the replacement watch was completely refunded.
Got the new working watch in 3 days.
Now you being overseas may complicate things.
I know NZ does not use 110volts 60hz, the power could be an issue but I sound like you dealt with this issue before. (Can not see why the Gear adapter would not work) it should supply the same required 5v DC, USB is universal.

Was playing around with it and it turned on for a second and showed the logo, gonna leave it on charge, may just be completely flat after shipping for a while, took almost a month to receive it.
I saw a video on YouTube where the watch was already turned on out of the box. Maybe your are in the same situation, most likely due the delayed delivery.
Mine comes o 5 August in Romania, ordered from Google Play. Can I use the charger that comes with Gear Live with an adapter? I bought a Nexus 4 from US a year ago and I used it only with the adapter and original charger, no problems until now.

I have found that the Live does not like chargers that put out 2.1a. I've also found that 1a basic chargers are hit and miss.
I'm currently using a charger that puts out 1.8a and everything works perfectly.
Sent it back under warranty and have a new one on it's way, hope it's a good one.
I have run into the same thing. I had a Gear Live delivered last month and I didn't have time to unbox it until yesterday. It wouldn't turn on so I used the charger that came with it. When I plugged it into AC power it showed a battery charging indicator on the screen. I waiting until morning and it would not power on.
I have tried the following:
AC Power with original charger
AC Power with charger from another Gear Live (which works)
USB power from Desktop with both chargers
USB power from MBP with both chargers
USB power from 1 mA battery pack with original charger
USB power from 0.5 mA battery pack with original charger
Holding down the button for 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 seconds many different times
What am I missing?! I guess I might have to make a warranty claim at this point, but I was planning on giving it away as a prize at a big Android DevFest event tomorrow!
same problem here
i bought the watch in July
days ago i removed from the charger as usual to find that was dead
i try all sort of thing nothing happen
i need to call for warranty if not solution come in
AFor sure FIX
So many people have had this same problem including me, I have tried all the different ways posted if trying to fix this but I know that the only way that will for sure fix it guaranteed is this;
The problem is that the charging port does not make direct contact with the battery, it actually runs through the main board and then to the battery which is only connected by exposed contacts, in other words the battery is not actually plugged in, it's just one half of the watch sandwiched up against the other half containing the main board and all the other components.
To fix this problem of the watch not responding to the power button or to charging, you need to disconnect the battery from the main board, like isaid it is not actually plugged in so all you have to do is take the watch apart for aminute and put it back together. This will reinitiate the connection and it WILL start working again. If you go to ifixit.com there is a good teardown guide which is all you need. It is only four screws and than the only hard part is separating the two halves but that's it.
all good is working for me

Hi there, first post and I'm very grateful for anyone who reads/responds to this. Long time reader, ex-owner of nexus 4+5.
I'll try to list all symptoms and procedures I've tried here. I recently dropped my phone and smahed the screen - sent off to motorola repair center and it has now been fixed. It arrived in the post 2 hours ago, so I immediately plugged it in (usng the turbo charger).
As expected the battery icon came up, first the solid icon, then it moved on to the charging icon.
Half an hour later I checked it, it was still "charging" but not a drop of power had gone into it. So I tried a different cable with the turbo charger, a lower powered one. Exactly the same response.
When I tried to power the phone on with conventinal method, the screen went blank and no activity was evident.
So I managed to boot into bootloader by holding down power and volume down (i think) button while pluggin it in simultaneously. This worked.
I set up my phone, wifi, sim etc... but notice the batttery icon has not displayed any charge. I go into settings and the battery settings IS MISSING! As if the phone has no battery in it.
So I decide to plug it in via USB to my laptop, no response at all, not even a charging icon. Different cable, same again.
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the issue may be, as it's been away for 3 weeks being repaired and I can't afford another 3 weeks without this phone as I'm an android developer and need it to regularly test my apps.
Interesting enough, a piece of paper arrived with the repaired phone stating that a live call and a software update had been implemented on it in the workshop. Leading me to believe that it was fully functional after its repair.
Any ideasand I would be hugely grateful.
Thanks guys.
Just an update -
I've been on the phone to motorola, they are sending a jiffy bag and it's going back to the repair center. This time under warranty.
I'd really like a fix now though :/ although I've tried everything under the sun.

It seems some hardware issue. As you've mentioned that charger is not helping then I should say, charging IC has some faults

It's in a jiffy bag ready to go back to SBE for repair. My case has been "escalated". All under warranty, thanks for the input. I think you're right it must be a hardware issue, I've tried everything to get it to work but the batter is basically not being recognised.
I'm more annoyed now at the fact I've paid £100 for a "repair", and will have to wait at least another week for this turnaround :/.
Wow, £100? Were you offered the Motorola insurance when you purchased your phone? I bought it because I wasn't sure if I could get insurance on my phone since it's not yet available with my carrier (Verizon).

I thought £100 was quite reasonable for a new phone with a smashed screen, particularly one as large and high quality as the n6. Not to mention the digitiser being attached.
I'm in the uk, apparently moto care is only available in the US at the moment.
My insurance, once the phone is returned, will be in the form of a ludicrously heavy duty case with built in screen protector!
Hi friends.
I'm in a pickle and I'm hoping someone may be able to help.
A few days ago I went to bed with my phone at about 65% battery left. (I don't charge over night, Li-Pol stress, etc,)
I woke up late in the morning as my alarm had not gone off. I grabbed my phone to check the time and it was off!
I thought 'bugger', maybe an app had started a process etc, and flattened my battery.
I tried to turn the phone on but nothing happened. I put it on the charger and left it for half an hour. Still nothing, so I went to work.
There is no indication that the phone is charging. No charging screen and no LED.
I plugged it in all day at work, using a mix of chargers and USBs.
I searched here, and on reddit and the moto forums for answers. I tried all the trouble shooting including the '3 minute button holding', trying to boot into recovery, etc. There is no response. The phone seems dead. Even after 3 days of charging now!
If the phone is plugged in, and I hold VolDown and Power for 3 minutes (as suggested), the green LED blinks once after about 2 minutes, but nothing else happens.
I'm hoping if someone else has experienced this, they may have a fix...
Here is the hard part!
I have had a dialog with the Motorola support staff. They advised me to run through several steps. (all as described here on XDA, Hard resets etc.)
Nothing worked, so they suggested sending it in for repair. This is great. However..
I bought the phone in the UK and I now live in Australia. Apparently this renders the phone 'out of warranty'.
Before I try and talk this out with Motorola UK, does anyone have any advice?
Thanks,
Michael
I don't have any additional advice, I had a similar situation with my 2013 1st gen moto x. I bought it in the US, but I live in Chile. The warranty is not void by being in another country... but they could not send my phone to me if I got it repaired. So I sent it to my father in the US, he sent it to motorola, motorola returned it to him, he then sent it back to me in Chile. It cost me about $60 to send it to him, and I assume it cost my father $60 to send it back(he did not tell me how much).
If there is no one that you can send it to, you have a problem.

Thanks,
I have family in the UK, So hopefully this works.
Cheers
Hello!
Despite my efforts, my Gear Live watch is refusing to turn on. I've gone through customer support and achieved no success (obviously, that's why I'm here) except the offer to pay a fee and send it back which I might take up that offer but I would like to see if anyone else has the same problem or any solutions before I shell out money for that.
So far I've:
-Let it sit on a wall charger for 3 hours
-let it sit connected to my laptop for about the same amount of time
-cleaned off the charger and contact points on the back of the watch, no corrosion to either (in fact, the watch is in nearly new condition minus my numerous fingerprints )
-tried three different cables and wall chargers
- opened up the watch, reseated the battery, put it back together and tried again, still to no avail
- opened it again, took out a multimeter, got nothing the first time charging it, second time after charging it, it showed 3 volts.
I'm at a loss as it looks as if it were just bought from the store, no damage or anything to the watch anywhere and it didn't seem to show damage from water or sweat. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
If the battery has been dead for a while, the initial charge can take forever (1day+)

I've had it sitting for over half a day with nothing yet, I'll wait for the full day to pass and update you if anything has happened.
After 24 hours...nothing, so I took apart, measured it again, still getting .3 volts, which would translate to 300 mAh, the maximum capacity for the watch, so its not a battery problem, leading me to believe something on its motherboard(?) has a problem, possibly. Anyone have any thoughts?
Just a small update, got it to flash the "Samsung Gear Live" screen for about 1-2 seconds, just ordered a new battery because that's what seems to be the problem
