Yes you are all Charlie all of time...
But I am not because they did disrespect my prophet and muslims. This mod is completely a provocation...
One last thing the greatest is only Allah.
Allah sees everything...

I have deleted a couple of posts here. Remember we do not permit religious discussion here and politics can get very messy too.
For now I have left a couple of posts for "balance" but here stops the discussion of the different sides regarding politics/religion.

Yes, but think to Freedom of Expression. This is what means "Je suis Charlie".
There is no hate in Charlie's caricatures, just laugh. Sad that some people take them as hate or don't accept laugh.

If a whole community is not accepting something then better avoid it (specially the things related to religion) , there are millions of other things which can be used to laugh upon, why only the things which are hurting someone's sentiments (`someone` here is a whole community).
Just a thought..

I'm not a religious person but I think we should learn to respect the convictions of others.
I just don't think the public mocking of revered religious figures is a good idea. Not even under the banner of free speech. I wouldn't walk up to a stranger on the streets and just insult him using free speech as a defence.
I think we all need to take a step back and do some soul searching here. It's a question of responsibility and respect for each other. Free speech yes but everything has boundaries. In some countries like Germany, people are prosecuted for denying the holocaust.
Having said that, murdering people in cold blood can never be a justifiable response to offence. Too many people are just being driven into the hands of insane fanatics constituting a very mad brigade hell bent on insanity. We shouldn't be doing things that swell the numbers of this mad brigade but unfortunately acts like deliberately ridiculing revered icons does exactly that. Free speech in my opinion isn't a good justification for this. Especially when it's just for a laugh. Not worth the trouble it causes at all and I look forward to the day when this is realised.

No sir you are not the only one. In the face of the sort of murderous carnage we saw on the streets of Paris, it's just human nature to rally behind the victims of such an atrocity.
We all as human beings have more in common than not. We just need to tolerate our subtle differences a bit more.
The men made mad who carried out the attacks are no more representative of Islam as the IRA were of catholics. They just use religion as a rallying call to recruit disillusioned and disaffected young men and women to their cause which is purely political in motive. We need to stop elevating them to the point were they're now considered a threat to our world. They do not and cannot threaten our way of life. What with kalasnikovs, RPGs and improvised explosives? Can they really pose a real threat to the west who've got armies armed to the hilt with the most advanced weaponry including a vast arsenal of nuclear weapons?
These fanatics are no more than a nuisance. A deadly irritation and we all need to confine them to their tiny little box where they belong rather than elevating them to a threat to our way of life. They're are not that and will never be that. They should be treated like the rag tag bunch of lunatics they are. By waging a war on terror against them, all we do is play right into their hands giving them the publicity they desperately crave to recruit more lost souls to their insane agenda. This needs to stop. They're murderous criminals and that's how we should see them. Vermin that need to be crushed by special forces wherever they are. Starting with Saudi Arabia!
We just need to be a bit more realistic in our thinking. Lofty ideals are great but they should always be tempered by the situation on the ground.

Who do I contact in case of...

I post this in Off-topic because its not related to the phones.
I recently received a Racism/Stereotypical Infraction for saying that I do not want to deal with Indians if AT&T merges with T-mobile, and that Indian calling centers are horrible.
So who do I contact to dispute it? Would I get ban next time if I say Indians, Americans, Mexicans, Italians? Its ridiculous.

Get used to it, buddy.
I lost count of the number of unfair infractions that I got for posting up jokes.
As long as someone is pissed...

Let me guess , it was in general or networking ?
If you got infraction points u should write to an admin , similar rediculous stuff happened me but didnt get points so i didnt make a deal about it
My favourite one is when a guy opens a blatantly obvious flame bait iphone thread in general(what does xda have to do with iphones?) , i advise him theres an iphone-developers site not so far, and i get an infraction .... gfg

People in this thread would probably not get pissed. I wouldn't if someone cracked jokes about Malaysia or Chinese, because it will be real funny.
I suppose that being overly politically correct would be just stifling, especially since a lot of people are defined by their cultural stereotypes. On that note, if we would be completely homogeneous, there would be no differentiation and soylent green would be an acceptably delicious food item.
Of course, I laughed at the OP's crack at Indians. I still remember Slumdog Millionaire
It doesn't help that the OP could possibly be right, and sometimes Indians have a way of over-rrrrrolling their rrrrrs in a funny way to the point that it is difficult to understand.

Surely you do understand that if xda does not punish you in some way for making a rascist comment then they are seen to be condoning it, and therefore being rascist themselves?
The slightest remark that tarnishes any particular race of people has to be considered rascist, whether the intention was to hurt or not.

His problem was he was labelled as racist commenter while he wasnt one. It had nothing to do with what your talking about , it. was. not. racism. Get that in your head .
He was pointing out the fact that he'd rather not deal with a callcenter whos employees do not speak english as a first language , and thats perfectly understandable , who wouldnt try to avoid the hassle situations like that bring unavoidably ? Even if you dont mind , its his choice .

If he doesn't have the wherewithal to say "I'd rather speak to a native english speaking person than someone who may have an accent that I don't understand", then he should keep his comments to himself. I do suspect, however, that he's perfectly capable of being clear about his issue, and does not require people to make up stories about what he meant when he said something else.

Before this thread gets closed...
Perhaps just saying:
"I'm sorry, I did not intend for what I said to sound racist, I'll try to be more careful in future how I say things"
Would probably avoided the points etc. But yeah, don't worry about it, it'll not go into your school report and I'm sure no one will bring it up if you become President.
It is all subjective, like bad language, sometimes I don't even notice it on TV and sometimes even the slightest not-even-a-swear-word can annoy me.
I'm sure you didn't intend to be racist and if that is the case, no problem. It was probably the potential discussion that could have developed rather than the comment itself.

My Rant to start:
I hate when driving behind someone and they want to make a right hand or left hand turn and turn from the driving lane when there is a perfectly good turn lane.

Why you have underhanded techniques to try and muscle out the competition?!
Why can't you just....I don't know....NOT SUCK!?
I think I've lost the little respect for apple that could possibly exist inside the deepest depths of my heart.

Who's idea was it to combine peanut butter and jelly in the same jar? I mean, jelly needs to be refrigerated but peanut butter gets to hard when its in the fridge. Who wants to spread hard PB on their sandwhich? I mean COME ON PEOPLE! Stop being so lazy and spread the smooth PB on one side from its own container and the cold jelly on the otherside. It is not rocket science.
Sigh, ok i'm done. Thanks for letting me vent.

First off, I think you mean "Jam" or "Fruit Preserve"....
This is jelly...........
And as for keeping it in the fridge..... well thats just wrong. Its almost as bad as keeping tomato sauce in the fridge....
Secondly, and more importantly......
DO NOT start a rant thread if your "rant" is only one line long
Thats not a rant............
Thats nothing but a minor gripe........
If your gonna rant, RANT. Dont just throw out a tiddly little one liner and expect people to feel sorry for you. You need to make them feel your pain!
Your need to spew absolute bile and vitriol at whatever it is thats grinding your gears.
I dont expect to come in here and see a threads called "Rants Thread" only to open it up and find you crying into your soup because someone cut across you on your way home from work....
I want to experience a level of anger not seen since that video of the angry german kid smashing his keyboard to bits! I want to believe your so absolutely livid with rage that you would punch your own mother full force in the face if she popped her head around the door to offer you a cup of tea!
There should be pictures of you stood on the roof of your house with a megaphone in one hand and a bottle of whisky in the other screaming blue murder at the cops below.
There should be ridiculous amounts of the most vile and offensive profanity imaginable, language of such a filthy and depraved nature that it would make a sailor blush.(but not on XDA
It beggars belief that this is what passes for a rant these days. In my day rants would go on for days..........
Thats the problem with "da yoof" of today, theres no passion. Nothing gets your blood pumping except Justin Bieber and the new limited edition flavour of Doritos.
Back in my day rants would go on for days. You could walk into any pub and find an old man in the corner jabbering on for hours putting the world to rights. You come back 2 hours later and he's still be going. Come back in another 2 hours and he'd be starting all over again from the beginning.
And thats another thing, whats up with pubs these days?
They dont even smell like pubs anymore, I remember when you walk past a pub at any hour of the day and smell nothing but stale beer and cheese and onion crisps. (Thats right crisps not "chips", chips is the correct name for "fries" ). Pubs nowadays smell like the perfume counter at an overpriced department store....They dont even sell pickled eggs
They're just filled with overgroomed morons with stupid hairdos wearing T-shirts sporting the name of a Japanese city they've probably never heard of and a random number! Pffft most places dont even serve a decent pint. Its all watered down continental lagers that think they're better than a real pint because they're made with some obscure type of hops and barley cmobination. They dont even let you re-use your glass after your finished your drink because the health and safety types might wet they're pants if they see someone using the same glass for two drinks in a row. Its H&S gone mad thats what it is!!
Like those kids that werent even allowed to play conkers at school without safety goggles, they probably had to walk through some bleak inner city craphole full of junkies and degenerates all by themselves to get to school in the first place because they're lazy benefit cheating parents couldnt be bothered to get off they're lazy ass and take them, but OHHH NOOOOO, heaven forbid they should play conkers and maybe get hit in the face by a tiny little fragment of some overgrown seed......
Not that kids these days can even get hold of a decent conker these days, back in the day you could find them everywhere, big as a cats head.
Like that cat from next door, always coming across into my garden and crapping all over my prize begonias. I oughta set up a snipers nest in my loft and wait for it to come creeping in one night then.... BOOOOM..... headshot!!
Of course, I'd be in the wrong.....
"It was just a defenceless kitty " they'd cry......
Bah, It was trespassing on my property and I was defending myself. Whats the world coming too when a man cant even defend his own home from being attacked by his neighbours rogue feline??
This countrys gone to the dogs I tell you..............
Anyway, I dont have time for this I need to go and teach that bloody cat a lesson..........

Myriam Joire: Engadget members being banned &critical posts removed 4 personal agenda
I wanted to make the community here aware of the fact that longtime members of engadget.com are being banned and having their posts deleted if they are critical of the lack of professionalism exhibited by Myriam Joire aka @tnkgrl, an editor at Engadget.
Recently, she did a video interview of an international tech executive at the Mobile World Congress while representing the Engadget community. He appearance was completely unprofessional and a distraction. Engadget should be a site focused on tech and it's community of tech followers, not one editor's personal agenda.
The appearance of executives, especially in media, reflects on their entire organization and it's community. A semi-professional appearance is an obvious must for interviewing international tech executives. Anything less disrespects those being interviewed and the entire community as a whole.
I feel the that Joire's initial lack of professionalism, followed by the completely unwarranted censorship of longtime members who were critical of her lack of professionalism, warrants Myriam Joire being removed from the Engadget staff.
I hope members here stand up for those being censored and banned at Engadget because of Joire's personal agenda and call for her removal.
Thank you.
Update:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/28/the-engadget-interview-nokia-lead-for-imaging-experience-nokia/
The above is what I am referring to.
I, and many others, understandably assumed the interviewer was a man, and thought his appearance was completely unprofessional.
The fact that the interviewer happens to be, in fact, a women, just makes it even worse.

That is completely unacceptable appearance for a man, or a woman, when interviewing an international executive, especially on camera.
If you disagree, you must have an agenda of your own.
Sexuality had NOTHING to do with this.
Barney Frank and Janet Reno have no problem with their professional appearance on camera.
Members go to endadget to read about tech, not to have someone's personal agenda forced down their throats.
Engadget editors and interviewers represent the engadget community, and should do so in a professional manner.
Sorry, what is unacceptable?
Her appearance?
If people were posting comments about her appearance and they were deleted then quite rightly so as they would be off topic and irrelevant.

Who cares what She (or anyone for that matter) looks like. Myriam is a well known tech journalist and really knows Her stuff.

I absolutely agree.
This is about a journalist and interviewer having a professional appearance. This has nothing to do with anyone's personal life.
When you are in the public eye, you have a responsibility to respect your organization and the organizations you deal with by presenting a professional public appearance.
If you re-read my original post, I thought the interviewers appearance was completely inappropriate when I understandably thought she was a man.
This has nothing to do with someone's sexuality.
I've had long hair, a mohawk, tattoos, tanktops, leather, sports jerseys, etc. But, when I am representing my company, I put all of those things aside because I am responsible to present a professional appearance when doing do.
If you can't see the point I am making, you don't understand business and media or your simply have your own agenda .
Regardless, Myriam's appearance in interviews and the censorship of long time members is completely unprofessional and unacceptable and she should be removed from the Engadget staff.
I think you are overreacting to an issue that, at this point, is arguably a non issue. Myriam Joire is a well known tech journalist that has done hundreds of interviews. No one else has an issue, with her appearance. I think you're just mad no one else here agrees with you.

It became an issue when people started getting banned and had their posts removed without cause.
Many people posted with the same issue I had with her lack of professionalism and their posts were removed and they were banned. So, I am not alone.

What is the "agenda" here? I fail to see what you're so pissed off about... Since when was it a legal requirement to wear a two piece suit to talk about a camera phone on the internet??

I guess the personal agenda of Engadget is to not have their interviewers discriminated against by their members. How shocking

Did you even look at that video?
If I represented my company looking like that I would be fired in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even consider disrespecting my employer or my community by representing them like that in the first place.
Trolling? It's not trolling to post that our website and our community should be represented in a professional manner.
Do you see Anderson Cooper on TV with a ridiculous haircut that's only purpose is to cause a distraction? How about with over a dozen piercings in his head and face? Do you see him on TV with a hooded sweatshirt with the sleeves pushed up to specifically show off a collection of randomly placed tattoos? No, you don't.
Don't try to transfer the burden of this issue to the many members that posted they had an issue with her lack of professionalism and were censored and banned. Don't try to transform an issue about professionalism and censorship into trolling or anything else that it isn't.

I have no idea what is it that you are trying to do here and could really care less.

Your company is neither here nor there, her employers clearly have no issue with it so why the hell should you?

It is trolling to make off topic comments with the sole intention of provoking a negative response. I don't even think you're actually a troll. Trolls do this for fun, I think that you are the one with the "Agenda" here.....
I have no idea who Anderson Cooper is and it's irrelevant....
How does his appearance on TV have any relevance to someone on a website? A website that, last time I checked, was owned by AOL, not you and anyone else who comments there...

The only one burdened with this issue seems to be you and the only unjust censorship seems to be you attempting to influence the way someone chooses to dress when they are doing their job.
Leave that to their employers and take your butthurt elsewhere.

Not sure if this is trolling, or it's just a retarded idea I really don't see this working if it's real though. It could easily be abused either by the trolls themselves or by noobs who feel they're being hard-done by when they're told to search the forums.

funny article is funny
Isn't it funny how people read a news headline and don't bother either reading the full article or researching the background behind afore-mentioned article.
This is not a plan to clamp down on people posting idiotic comments in an Off-Topic forum. This is aimed at finding and prosecuting the people who post nasty, malicious comments on the Facebook page of a 13 year old girl who took her own life. Is there a single person on this forum who thinks that is acceptable behaviour or who feels that sort of 'troll' should be protected from legal action?

There was one recently where the guy got prosecuted for "trolling", as it was called. He'd been leaving comments on facebook pages of people who had died, and their family members. But it was posted on here saying "We'd best be careful or we'll get arrested!"
Really not the same thing. I don't think there's many people on this forum that would even hesitate to report that kind of foul behaviour, let alone do it!
I'm pretty sure it would be insta-perma-ban, without warning.

So it's not entirely aimed at that Facebook page, it's aimed at the internet community as a whole. Every site there is a troll who posts malicious comments, some are funny trolls & friendly once you get to know them, some will stop at nothing to make people's lives hell.
Websites will not be prosecuted for displaying offensive comments if they help to uncover trolls' identities.

[The Official] VETS Lounge/Resource Center

I created this thread as a way to thank our VETS who are, or have served in a war. (any war). Please show your gratitude here. VETS are also welcome to introduce themselves, and share their stories. ALL military persons are welcome here! Share your stories and have fun. Hooo-Rahh!!
Rules: There is only one rule...Be Respectful. Do not engage in political views, personal debates, or share your opinions about the war, or what our VETS are doing, or have done. This thread is strictly for VETS to introduce themselves, share their stories, and for civilians to show their support and gratitude for their sacrifice and dedication for our country. This rule will be strictly enforced, so please be mindful of this when posting. Thank You.
I'll start...
While I'm not a VET myself, I volunteer for the US Department of Veteran's Affairs as an activities coordinator, where I create activities and companionship for WWII, Korean, Vietnam, and Desert Storm VETS. Most of them are elderly, and facing mortality, suffering from moderate to severe depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Most of them are lonely, so I create activities that cater to their specific wants and needs, which in turn stimulates happiness, and an improved quality of life in their latter years. My wife also works there as a Medical Support Assistant, where she works in the urgent care dept. assisting VETS by addressing health issues, and providing them with the care they so desperately need. We both are very proud of what we do, because it's our way of giving back to those who have lost so much...

Former Marine SGT. servedmy tour of duty as a reservist dployed to Iraq in 2007-2008. all in all it was an awesome experience. Deployed with some very amazing people. Everyone i left with came home happy and healthy. I understand some others are not as lucky and my heart goes out to them and thier families.
One thing i have never asked for and never will ask for is a thank you. But to anyone feeling as if they need to do so, i will tell you it was a pleasure and if things in my life hadnt changed significantly for me after my return home I would still be humbly serving our nation.

Yeah its a Marine thing but its also a life thing.
Also another note. I was a weather observer a profession which is now phased out. Now they only have weather forcasters and I was an air wing Marine on Al Asad air base. So my experiences may vary greatly from the larger group of my brothers and sisters who also served.

Keep in mind, in today's military it is a purple world. Meaning joint services and even with the UN peace keepers.
I have had the Honor of serving and spilling the same blood with almost all branches of the Military.
Semper Fi and my deepest respect to all who have and still wearing the uniform. Those individuals know what it takes...
I get asked would I go back to active duty if the USMC asked....in a heart beat, without hesitation.
Thx again Danny for your support to us Veterans and as always Good to Go!
