I am getting tons of reports from friends that my texts go through tons of times. I've had this happen on stock and CM12. So clearly it's the phone. What can I do to resolve this? If it matters, I'm using Google Messenger.

Sprint? If so, known issue. Try using hangouts.

So... What is Sprint doing about this, if anything? You'd think that after months of this phone being out, they'd have a fix.

right now the only workaround i believe is to go into 3G only mode. some theorize it depends on what vendor market you're in (samsung, ericsson, or AL) but i dont think sprint has done much to address the issue.

Yeah it's a real crappy issue. Have to stay in 3G or get the issue. Not a big deal if I have Wi-Fi. But it gets old switching back and forth.

this is only an issue with the nexus 6. I did not have this with my lg g3. either way, $60 for unlimited eveything is better than any other deals.

It's not a Nexus only issue with Sprint. My girlfriend and I have been dealing with this on a One Max and prior to that a G3.
Like you say tho... For the money I don't even care really lol
I have my fingers crossed in the hope an update will fix this. Possibly 5.1? I don't text a ridiculous amount but using hangouts has helped. I really liked messenger too, so it's kind of missed.
It's still a sh!tty situation though. But I have 5 lines with a corporate discount. So it's hard to beat subsidized phones and unlimited data, text etc for everyone for under $230 a month.
Any update from Sprint on this? People get my texts 12+ times now. WTF
Great getting mine in morning from Amazon. Most my communication is from texts. Done Google search for fixes Noone seems to have a permanent fix for dup texts. I guess I will have to try various settings that I've found through search and see if any help the issue

ive been getting mxed reviews from people about this...i have the original data plan with it and my family has unlimited txts...is this going to cost me money?
They told me i had to purchase the all Unlimited Plan to use visual voicemail, so unfortunately i can't use it.
weird im on the unlimited data and 400 text plan and they said it wouldnt cost me anything?
ive never tryed hullomail but i tryed phonefusion and this app seems to be better....
*EDIT* i called t-mobile and checked and aparentley they removed my 400 text messages without telling me so they are switching it back for me.
wow what a **** moove by t-mobile....
you would think tmo would have this completely clear and understandable but instead thier customer support has failed once again leaving us confused...there is no reason this should not be free...
cool. i think i'll go with Google Voice though, it's free.
ok...just called tmo...rep had to "update" plan, which he said does nothing but add the vv service...no change in texts or data or $...whooo hooo!
APPARENTLY:
If you already have the unlimited everything package, it's just added on, but if you have the 24.99 a month package it is basically replacing your 400 texts a month.
The Android Data Plan apparently is either all-or-nothing with texts and so therefore I'm using Google Voice. kthxbai.

The customer service reps have had no training for the program since it was just released today. The new data plan is the android plan which will support the programs like this that add on stuff like visual voicemail.

I called they said sooner or later g1 plan is merging as android unlimited but u can call them and won't loose ur texts I still have unlimited texts on a family plan !

Yes just got off the phone with t-mobile and setup my visual voicemail =)
I spoke to a rep and changed the unlimited data for android data and had to pay $.09 for the change for some odd reason .. it was an hour ago I set it up sent me a voicemail but it didn't go to vv just regular
so I guess I gotta wait longer for it to kick in

So I have been using my lovely N1 with AT&T from the day I got it. Just popped my old SIM card into the N1, added a $15/month unlimited data plan and presto blamo it worked like a charm.
So last night I get a text from AT&T telling me I need to add a "smartphone" plan to my account. How do they know I have a smartphone? Anyway, I ignored it. Just now, I got a message from them telling me my phone plan had been upgraded to the minimum plan...$30/month. I am now paying $15 more a month for absolutely nothing.
Buh-bye AT&T...going carrier shopping. Good thing I am not in contract! That's what using unlocked phones will let you do!

you imei is a digital trace. once you make one phone call or text from the phone, thats called billable airtime! your imei comes up in their system as what ever phone you are using in this case the nexus one. this is the same way tmobile knows how people are using a iphone

Good thing your first post here is a bash.
About paying for data and not paying for data:
For me I don't pay for any data on any phone. Why? No 3G, and I mainly use WiFi.
P.S I totally agree with "A fool and his money are soon parted"
AND to top things off, if someone was saving for a nice and shiny phone, this (and you) have no right to tell them "if you can't waste money, you cant have a new phone" saving for a 530$ phone and paying ONE TIME is far different than paying 30$ a month for data, when it isn't even used or isn't to its full capacity.

Totally untrue. You can use this phone with a standard voice with T-Mob, how do I know? I do it.
The real problem is not the price but rather the fact AT&T charges you $30 a month when you can't even use their 3G on your Nexus One.

I did this with my tp2 also. I didn't think it was worth paying $30 a month to use when I have wifi pretty much every where I go. I like the nexus a lot better, so I pay for the data for now. However, I rarely use the data, so it is basically $25 down the drain every month.
It's not a matter of being able to afford it, flametards... It's about perceived value for services received.

If you're wasting that $25 that's your own fault. Do what you did before if it worked fine.
The point is AT&T or T-Mobile can charge whatever they like. No amount of complaining in here is going to help that. If you want to have a moan the moan on their forums where they might actually see it. ( http://forums.wireless.att.com/ && http://forums.t-mobile.com/ )
Your complaints about carrier pricing are nothing to do with the Nexus One.

Bingo. This just happend to me yesterday as well. I guess AT&T figured out how to detect the Nexus. I've been paying the full data price for years, just switched it over 2 weeks ago because of this phone. It is pretty weak since its only on edge...
I definitely wouldnt be down for paying 30 a month for Edge, that sucks. It is relevant to this forum since ATT only just discovered they can label the N1(EDGE) a "smartphone" and charge more money. Other phones with web support still get the EDGE pricing.

Did you see me complaining? No, you did not. I was simply saying it was possible to not have a data plan at all which was contrary to what you said, incorrectly, earlier. "If you don't want to pay, change network. You'll still have to pay so get over it."
Advice: if you want the thread to die quit posting in it. By the way, AT&T changing their policy on the nexus pertains to the nexus in general. Hence this thread's location in Nexus One General sub-forum.

This.
My standard message:
There's nothing wrong with toolkits themselves. They can be great, useful tools. We're not even saying they cause bricks either - though users not understanding things *could* cause one...Toolkits are necessary on many devices, but on Nexuses, the manual steps are very easy.
Ultimately it's fine to use a toolkit but *only* if you already know how to do all these steps manually. If you do not know how to do that then you should do it manually so that you do know. The reason for this is if something goes wrong further down the line, we don't want to have to teach you the basics AND tell you what you need to do to fix whatever issue you have. We just want to do the latter - because teaching someone the basics that they should already know when they are frustrated and panicking is not a good set of circumstances to be teaching under and it is frustrating to us more than you and putting us in that situation is a little bit selfish

We have two Unlimited lines and one 2GB line (i.e., kids are growing up). I spoke in the store with a Salesperson who claimed he could get me a discount on a family package with 6GB shared for about $10 less/month than my current plans. Plus, I'd be able to purchase subsidized phones for the two (previously) unlimited lines, again. I wanted to check this out myself online, so looked later that evening and couldn't find what he offered.
The next day, I called Verizon and a Salesperson couldn't reproduce that deal, only giving me the $20+ greater cost that I'd already calculated using their online plan comparison tool.
So, it might depend on who you talk to (or, if your request is even reasonable).
Friends and relatives helped me understand that coverage seems good for all the major carriers in our area - I'd probably first consider Sprint if our unlimited plans went away and costs went up substantially for very little data/month.

Good afternoon everyone. I have been looking at several posts in regards to what people live/hate and some issues people have been having.
My situation is that I am grandfathered into Verizon's unlimited data. I work at an emergency communications center that does not give employees WiFi. So I give myself and my brother access though the hotspot and use about 40-50gb a month. I'm currently using the DE Moto X 2013 which has just gotten beaten down over time.
What I'm looking to find out is (and from what I have seen there are no issues) that I can root the Nexus 6 to give myself hotspot without Verizon's verification. Also looking to see if it's worth the phone. I have seen several posts with connection issues, but others saying they have never had any problems. I know Google is looking to put out new phones in August roughly, but two things concern me. My current Moto X is horribly slowed down even after wiping/installing roms which makes me want to make a purchase soon. The other issue is that I know Verizon has a horrible track record with working with Google and I'm scared that even if Verizon will allow a new Nexus type phone on their network, it won't be for several months later.
I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this.
generally, if you have questions, they get posted in the q&a/help section, not into general. people don't look there to help people or to answer questions. so I found your post here, in the wrong section, and just requested that a mod move your thread to the right section.

No issues with my phone on VZW yet. I haven't rooted it, but I don't see why one couldn't seeing as it can be unlocked. I got my from Best Buy, swapped in my nano SIM and off I went.
I finally got around to rooting my Google Play purchased N6 so I could use my VZW unlimited on a hotspot. I rooted using the simple method in Wug's tools and then edited the build prop line and rooboted. Works perfectly on 5.1.1.
I bought the Verizon Nexus 6 at full price to keep unlimited data and came from the moto x 2013 just like you. I just unlocked the bootloader, rooted and added the line to the build prop file and everything works great. I use the hotspot at work and home and it is working just fine. I didn't know if I would like this large of a phone but I actually do like it. I don't use my nexus 9 near as much though.
If you like the phone, get the phone. You will lose unlimited data before too long anyway, they are going to get rid of the plans altogether...
Awesome, thanks for everyone's help. Ordered one and an looking forward to it!

Why do you say that?
Don't get me wrong, UDP is the only thing keeping me with vzw, so that would be my exit queue.
OP, I got the Google places 64gb version, flashed the vzw build, rooted, enabled hotspot.
I used their build so I could get the vzw app and the visual voicemail and the signal is superior to my old note 3.

Because VZW is talking about getting rid of them, and unlimited plans are going the way of the dodo across the board with all carriers... Even Sprint is talking about getting rid of them. You are not grandfathered in in the sense that most people use that term. Your contract for Unlimited expired. They are still giving it to you, but they are no longer contractually obligated to since the 2 year contract you signed with them, expired long ago... You are getting it now more as a courtesy, because they haven't bothered to boot you off, but its coming.
Unlimited made sense years ago when people didn't consume much bandwidth on phones. Now when people are pulling down 50GB a month, they aren't going to let that go on forever...

2 cups and a string had superior signal to my old note 3!
I found the note 4 to be a huge improvement, and the nexus 6 is in line with the note 4.

I had the Note 4 on Verizon for 6 months, my wife still has one as I havent found a "sucker" yet to swap for a Nexus 6.
After using the Note 4 daily for all these months and going to the Nexus 6 it was like the Wizard of Oz when it goes to color,
effortlessly fast, The Note 4 lollipop update is a complete disaster, My wife's phone is 100% stock and its constantly stuttering and freezing up.
its junk.

"Courtesy" is not on vzw vocabulary, there must be another reason. We are talking about vzw here, that company is so evil that the ceo breakfast includes a cup of baby blood.

Yeah, LOL.
Well, they just haven't bothered, is what it comes down to, but with even Spring throwing in the towel on Unlimited, these old plans won't last too much longer...

Had the same issue. And lucky me found a friend that was looking to trade wife's n6 for another phone. Traded my Note 4 for it and never been more happy to do so. Great phone. Root was a must which was denied on Vz Note 4.

The amount of people who still have an UDP are the minority. On top of that, the last time Verizon tried to make changes to the UDP people, they got a huge backlash publically and reversed their course of action:

I'm sure eventually Verizon will axe unlimited data, but by that time we will all be on Google Fi anyway .
So, let me start by saying that I HAVE read around and there is a lot of talk about this issue here on xda, a lot of people have sent their Nexus 6 phones in to be replaced and it's a common issue! However, was anyone ever able to come up with the conclusion of it either being software or hardware based? I noticed mine does this more when the battery gets lower leading me to believe it's software related, however, I have hear speculation that the hardware is faulty. Anyone know the true answer to this question? Thanks!

im going to assume its hardware based. since my n6 doesnt have any hissing or crackling, and if software mine would have it as well, since we have the same software.

Damn, I guess a lot of people had this issue, most people who own this device have said this is happening to them, few have said theirs is fine. It's a minor annoyance, but for the hefty price tag and what I paid for mine, it's very disappointing. Does the 6p or 5x have this issue? Or not sure? They're made by different companies so I assume they don't.

I dont have this issue unless I try to use things like Viper which I removed as it really didnt do enough to justify the extra static.
As for the 6p and 5x they have other issues.
No hissing or crackling from the speakers on my N6. And I don't think we can say most people that own this device have said they've experienced this issue.

Do you or anyone in this thread know if Google would replace a device that I've had for 7 months? What's the terms on this?
This is a refurbished replacement or new replacement N6 you've had for 7 months?

Then it's still under warranty and you should be able to get it replaced. I had a couple issues with my N6 and I got a brand new phone 10 days after I received RMA confirmation.

So just flashing a stock image and locking the bootloader should be good then? I have a lot of mods on mine.

Yeah, that's what I did. Don't think Google cares about unlocked boitloader but I locked it just in case.

Thanks! I just hope my next one doesn't have this issue if I go through with this. A lot of people said they went through 3 or 4 of these phones until they got one without this issue, also, they send a brand new one right? I don't want a refurbished one.

They should send you a new N6 if they have the same color and storage, but I've heard about some receiving refurbished phone with issues and then getting a new N6 after talking to customer servicece rep.

I called their support and asked about it, he says he "you don't wanna troubleshoot it first?" And I said "not really, I've tried EVERYTHING even reflashing stock firmware!" And then he tells me that it WOULD be a refurbished model, not a new one. Umm no, I paid full price for mine when it came out!

Might want to try Motorola for RMA. They have an option to get the replacement N6 before mailing them the defective phone.

It seems to me that the crackling has to do with voltage...
Like the crackling occurs as the battery starts to quit because it thinks there's more voltage available than really is... And as I start to put 2 + 2 together... It seems to be exasperated by using the "high performance" toggle in the kernel
