I believe my back panel is slightly raised near the volume keys, I see small gap there. I don't have any other phone to post snaps at this moment, Will you please put zoomed snaps of your back panel near the volume keys.. Would like to confirm if it is a issue with my handset only or it looks same for other handset too.
Thanks a lot.
plss guys help
This has been brought up a few times in the forums already. From what I have heard, Moto has already acknowledged the issue and will take care of it. If you look at these two threads, you can see pictures of member's phones with the issue, from very minor all the way to extreme circumstances.

If you must have a photo, here is mine. The issue on my personal phone is very minor (I wouldn't have even realized it if it weren't for those links above) and gets just a little bit worse if the phone gets warm. However, even at its worst, I can barely get under the back cover with my fingernail.
I am not able to post a photo right now, but I can confirm the back cover is ever so slightly raised between power and volume buttons on my Nexus 6. I can't say if it has been like that from day one, but is so minor right now that it doesn't bug me. If it gets worse I'd probably get a cheap replacement back from eBay instead of going through an RMA process.
Here's a picture of mine, which has an almost undetectable gap. Unchanged since I purchased it.

Going by the above, in the most cases I would suggest the answer would be "yes"
Thanks to all those who posted. Mine is quite similar to you guys, very slightly raised. I guess ill keep an eye , if its get worse then go for replacement.
I just took mine back yesterday to T-Mobile store and had it replaced. Mine was slightly raised at store then when I got home and set it up and actually played a few games I decided to take the back off because I felt dampness on my right hand and was confused. Thought maybe it was sweat, but to my surprise when I took case off the back panel had a huge gap/bulge right around the volume buttons.!? But what really freaked me out is the liquid that was coming out of it as well. I managed to push the panel back down and as I was doing this this liquid was oozing out from that whole side. I immediately call T-Mobile store where I purchased it and was told not to use the device and turn it off and don't charge it.
When I took device to store they where vary concerned and the rep. Actually called a rep. At Motorola about the situation. At least that's what the sale rep. At T-Mobile said. They immediately gave me a new device and a free case / cover for the phone and sent me on my way.
I don't know what the rep at Motorola told the sale rep. But he did say they are taking a serious look at this issue. It seems to be a battery issue and some batteries are actually bursting. IDK but I have a new one now with no issues and love this device.

Hi
I just got mine from Tmo and start to notice this problem just like yours, i need to ask if the back case does help in this situation?
do i have to worry about it?
This means most of the devices have this back panel issue. Mine is 64GB one, so its not just 32GB that have the issue
I just called Tmo and they were very helpful and after 5 minutes of hanging up the phone they had shipped a new-brand device (as he told me they will). and i have to ship them the defective device. they also credit my account 10$ for me to ship the device
it should arrive tomorrow i hope the new one will be OK

I would return as soon as possible if your seeing any gaps in back panel. I not only had a bulge in mine but also had a mysterious liquid coming out of it. I know its hard to believe ,I wish I would have taken a picture but I didn't. Trust me just return it for another device.

I have something similar however its very minor. If I push with my nail it maybe moves 0.5mm
Mine looks like this http://images.anandtech.com/doci/8687/IMG_0152.JPG
I replaced my back cover when they became available on ebay because there were some scuffs from the factory and the covers were only about $8. The new one is raised slightly. You can push it down but it raises back up over time. I would imagine any replacement will do the same until they address the adhesive on the back,

Thought I'd share my story with you all in hopes that some of you may have had similar problems I've had with the Droid 3, perhaps in an effort to give me hope that one day I'll receive one that isn't shot to hell in some way shape or form.
1.) Brand-new, upgraded from the Droid 2 around the first week of August. This one lasted about a month before the slider just gave out and became so loose that it would open up by itself if I held the phone horizontally. No case was used on it prior, so I'm not sure what caused this. Never dropped it either (I baby the hell out of my phones).
2.) Replacement came in, no big deal. Attempted to slide it open right out of the box. Guess what? Wouldn't budge. Literally jammed shut. Sent it back the same day.
3.) Boot-looping from hell and 3G drop all the time in places where I should have full reception (i.e., my house). 5.6.890 was not released at this time.
4.) - 7.) Every single one had a completely jacked up sliding mechanism that would either squeek, crack, scratch, jam, or completely tear apart the left plastic portion next to the keyboard within just 5-10 slides. Unacceptable. 1 or 2 of these (lost count) also loved to boot-loop for no apparent reason. Mind you, I tried every trick in the book. Tried never installing ANY apps, tried replacing the extended battery with the stock one, tried replacing the SD-card with a different one, and hard-resetted several times. To no avail.
8.) Replacement #8. 5.6.890 is released, no more boot-looping it seems, but this one has a vibrating mechanism from hell. Whenever it would vibrate, it would sound like electricity. Haptic feedback on it felt like voltage. Unacceptable.
9.) Just received replacement #9 today. This <MAY> be a stupid thing to complain about, but wherever I press on the phone, the damn thing squeeks like it's falling apart. Press the home button ever so slightly...*squeek.* Press the back button...*rattle*. Wipe the phone down with a cloth...*rattle rattle crackle crackle squeek squeek squeeeeeeeeek*. No matter how little pressure I use, it squeeks as if its falling apart. The sliding mechanism, however, feels solid and amazing on this one. Clicks and holds tight, but OH MY GOD IS SQUEEKS AND RATTLES SO MUCH. Never had/heard this problem on the other 8 replacements.
Someone shoot me =/
Also, none of these problems arose post-root nor did I root any of the ones I owned. I have rooted my brothers and I'm currently using his to text out new ROMs and such....but it's freaking annoying. I want my own to play with and flash.
Does anyone else have weird problems? I may be a little OCD when it comes to stuff like this, but I sure as hell didn't pay 230 dollars for a boot-looping/voltage vibrating/3g dropping/SQUEEKING phone.
...does anyone else's "squeek" or "rattle" when the press down on the bottom-right or top-right corners of the phone when it's closed?

Man, sounds like you got stuck getting all the bad batch phones = / I'm really rough on my phone, and I've had none of these problems. Hopefully you can get a good one, cuz this phone is quite fantastic once rooted and rom'd. The only complaint I've ever had was the weak stock battery life, but even that isn't that bad since I've modded it.

You've replaced it just as many times as well huh? That's crazy.
the same thing happened with my droid x they all sucked they acutely had to send me a brand new one still in the box ....to fix the issues i was having ... lets just say thank God Verizon not selling cars there 100 point inspection test dosent work very well .. every time i call vzw they insure me it was put to the test i say well some one must of been blind because there is a light shining throw the screen when i just put the battery in it lol
Well I'm on the 6th, satisfied with this one so far. Most of them had the vibrate problem you mentioned. Some had light bleeding out of the screen near the softkeys. One the screen would randomly get distorted, almost like the top half of the screen was twisted and flipped around. And yes I do hear some squeaking on this one it's the back cover for mine anyway, taking it on and off too many times I assume.
Yea I'm not too sure about this 100-point inspection they keep referring to. How the hell do they miss something like what you mentioned...or an insanely squeeky/loose screen? Or even a 100% jammed screen that won't slide up? 100-point my ass.
Also, just to clarify...I absolutely love the Droid 3; I just want one that isn't jacked up. Even if they offered me a brand-new Bionic or something, I'd refuse. I love the D3, I just want one that isn't insanely jacked.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I've had the light-bleeding around the softkeys as well (specifically the last one I got, number 8). It was only on the bottom-right portion. Very noticeable and very annoying.

I did, after the 6th. I got a supervisor and she was a real B-word. I tore her apart and she refused to send me a new one. Don't think they ever would, because I was on the phone with her for about 15 minutes and she refused.
believe me i have but they just changed there policy you can keep getting as many refurbish phones. it used to be after 5 they would try to get you into something else ... well lets see the offered me the charge and tunderbolt i exsplaned to them that the only comparable device to this dorid 3 is the bionic and they wont offer that .. i am not going to down grade a dul core with the crap of last year test market no thank you ...

My D3 has had no real problems other than what is common to a new phone (mostly software related) and occasional operator error. I cannot calculate the statistical probability against randomly receiving nine consecutive bad phones. Either someone has targeted you to receive all the junk ones or you live somewhere with frequent over-the-top EMPs (or maybe hell). With similar experiences with the other phones as well, you must be living under some kind of curse!

Lmao. Well, considering they are all pre-owned "like new" devices...there is the probability that they were returned for the same reasons I'm returning them.
I get yet another one in the mail tomorrow...
Create a sob story and they send you a different phone. Its how i went from the droid x to the droid 3 without having an upgrade :] keep complaingin on the phone and say you want a different more reliable device thats in the same range. Then say something about the bionic {or differen phone} and they will give up and give it to you for free. just have to pay for a battery
Picked up a One on Saturday, so its still brand new. This morning, I noticed that the power button doesn't 'click' any more. Looking closely, the button seems to be recessed slightly towards the screen. It still turns on the phone, but I have to apply direct pressure with my finger nail.
As I recall, my old Thunderbolt had a weak power button that broke for many people, but the One's button at least looked more resilient. Anyone else seeing this, is it a known issue?
I'm still fully stock and unrooted, debating whether or not I should visit the T-Mobile store and inquire about a replacement. It does have the insurance on it as well.
I haven't heard of anyone complaining of a semi-dead power button yet,. but you should send it back for a warranty claim

Haha, I did that too!
The power button should protrude from the plastic on all sides, but only a very tiny bit. If it is recessed at all then it is defective. You should exchange it as I think the problem will only get worse.

Yeah, it already is. Its been getting increasingly difficult to get the display on all day.
I stopped at the TMO store I bought it from this morning to compared it to their display model's button. Its pretty obvious. Unfortunately, they had no stock to replace it with. Its expected to arrive on Weds or Thurs. Hopefully, this is a one time thing.
It is going to be flushed soon with the phone.
I rooted it and installed kernel that enable sweep2wake, etc.
So, Tuesday, when I visited the TMO store, the rep acknowledged the power button as clearly broken and defective, but he had no stock of Ones to replace it with. Today, I called head to verify that they'd received their shipment and had stock.
And I'm pretty sure I ended up speaking with the village idiot. According to her, the power button is not broken because the phone still turns on. Nevermind that you can turn on their floor model with a simple tap with the fleshy part of your finger and mine requires a forceful press with the finger nail. Again, according to her, she could exchange it would require a restocking fee of 50 dollars, something thats apparently hard wired into their sales system and which requires a manager override to get around. When I inquired why they'd knowingly put a defective/broken device back on the shelf for sale, she reiterated that its not broken. Because the screen still turns on. So, I guess under her logic a cracked screen isn't broken if it can still display an image?
I wasn't going to spend an afternoon arguing with her either, since I had to get to work and the manager was off site at a meeting. I confirmed that he would be present tomorrow morning, when I return. Again, which would be my 3rd visit for this, not counting the initial purchase.
If they refuse, then its what? A refurb through insurance or a refurb through HTC? My annoyance meter is definitely rising, and if this isn't resolved correctly tomorrow morning, I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to corporate. And I have the names and business cards of the two individuals who sold me the phone, handling the phone number porting and account set up, as well as the name of the poor rep I spoke with today.
http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/2711#9
Thats from the AT review in April. My power button does not look like that. It is not raised at all, its actually recessed/below from the surrounding material. My morning with the village idiot has had me stewing all day. :/ The finger nail and force required to hit my power button has scratched the hell out of the IR surface of the button . . . not sure if that'll impact the quality of the IR blaster. But these scratches are quite visible and the phone's not even a week old yet. What would it look like in a month? 6 months? 24 months? I did leave a grandfathered unlimited contract on Verizon to come to TMO . . .thats a one way trip. Annoyance meter currently at 6/10.
I'm on Sprint, but I was outside my 14 day return and noticed one part of my screen was raised up and the other side was recessed slightly. On the 19th day I called Sprint Corporate and had them verify inventory at the Corporate store I purchased it from, then explained my issue over the phone to them. While talking to Sprint CS, I asked for an appointment. She called ahead and when I got there and showed them my screen issue. I stayed firm and asked the manger to compare to new out of the box device. This one was worse. So we ends up with 5 phones on the table and I chose the best of them. Took work but I stead fast and stayed firm. You are a customer. T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon are the distributor. 30 days is a typical cut of date for a manufacturers warranty. The cell carrier will simple submit the phone to HTC for defective issues....

Wheww. Was in the TMO store again this morning. Got a rep with an actual brain in his head. Took him 30 seconds to look at my power button and confirm that it was indeed defective. Swapped the SIM into a replacement, factory reset the old one, printed a new receipt to confirm the swap, bang, done. In and out in 15 minutes, no warranty processing fees or BS restocking fees.
This power button appears to be solid. Now my root timer resets, 30 days. Heh, conveniently right after the One Google Edition launches.
I got my GSM Dev Edition last week and in the last few days I've noticed dark, asymmetrical streaks that almost look like scratches or claw marks in the bottom left quarter of the screen. These only show up on dark blue/gray backgrounds (such as the dialer and settings screens) and in low light - such as in the dark - I noticed it when i play around with it in watching TV in bed. I cleaned the display thoroughly to rule out dirt and oil, and I also noticed the marks don't show up in screenshots. My wife has a Verizon Moto X, and she doesn't have the streaks, but I did notice a few dark dots/spots that appear in similar situations.
I called Motorola, and even though I unlocked the bootloader, they will give me an RMA and evaluate the phone, but I'd have to ship it and then wait 7-10 business days to get it back. I was hoping they might say they'd just exchange it so it'd be a quicker process.
Is anyone else noticing something like this, or notice it now that I've pointed it out (sorry!)? Since I dropped close to $700 on this phone, it should be perfect, so it's hard to "unsee" it now even if it is borderline (or flat-out) nitpicking. But it doesn't affect functionality or even viewing in normal lighting, it doesn't show up on any other colored screens, and I really don't want to have to send my phone away and be without it for probably 3 weeks minimum. I've never had an issue with any phones or devices before where I've had to send them back for warranty repair or evaluation. Anyone have any advice or thoughts on this? Is it worth my time? Thanks!

In case anyone cares, after talking with them again, Motorola is letting me straight-up return the phone (even with unlocked bootloader). Then I'm just going to turn around and buy another new one - or perhaps even save a few hundos and get a gently used AT&T or T-mobile version (I like this phone so much as-is that I feel like I don't even need the unlockable bootloader). Why it can't just be an outright exchange where I send them this phone and then they ship me out another, I have no idea. At least the marks will be gone after going through this trouble..

Yes! I have them as well. I didn't even know how to describe them until I saw your post. White AT&T model. I filed a warranty claim through AT&T and they are sending me out a replacement. I thought about just letting it go since they are basically not visible unless it's a gray type background but just knowing they are there erks me to no end.

Yeah seriously, I couldn't stand seeing them anymore, and this morning was prepared to ship my phone away for 3 weeks to have it repaired. I'm glad they're just letting me return it. It feels tainted to me and I want a perfect one, especially for full retail price. Glad to know I'm not alone.
If anyone else is looking for them (again, sorry in advance), they're easily visible in the background of Titanium Backup and "Notification Toggles" app by j4velin. Also can see them in between stuff on the dialer and anywhere in the settings.

Oh for sure, Basically 700 bucks for a phone with tax it better be perfect. I don't blame you at all. Just curious, did you try a factory restore? I am almost certain it's a hardware defect but I thought about trying that.
Thanks

Yes, I ruled that out too. Flashed back to stock everything using the images in the FXZ but the marks are still there. It almost looks like the glass itself is stained or something where these "streaks" appear. No idea.
- I am in the employee advantage club so obtaining phones is a little different or somewhat harder in some cases being that you have to wait for the employee to approve it.
-Anyways I had my HTC ONE set up perfected, but the camera was becoming increasingly worse with the purplelicious pictures.
-Picked up my phone today from my contact @ sprint and it was all sealed nothing was out of place and it looked good.
-First things first checked the hboot, baseband and android version which is on I 1.44 and android 4.1.2 and so I was happy.
-First thing I noticed the dang power button was messed up when I pressed it it would sag to the right and go inside the phone. I called sprint to activate it the phone once I got it on and it took about an hour of changing ## numbers. Finally good but...
-Now I am thinking maybe i can live with the power button but i noticed something else; there was now vibration from the phone what so ever. I checked every single dang option and everything is enabled but still no vibration. Well I called sprint and gave them my rant about their quality and assurance control which I was very pissed about after waiting sometime for the replacement. Then called my Sprint contact to reorder another phone but this licks. My phone was in prestigous condtion despite the camera and I receive a much far worse phone in return.
Anyways end Rant-
I am curuious if anyone else has had a similar issue with the vibration function not working or just receiving a shady phone all together.
I've been lucky. My first phone blew the top speaker but my second one is perfect. Neither of them had the camera issue.

Had my phone repaired. It came back with scratches (yes, scratches that I KNOW were caused after they opened and processed it), and gaps, and glue out the corners, and a crappy power button. It was dropped once by a person I was showing it to (had taken the case off just for them) and who tried to press the power button, resulting in it falling onto hard tile from ~5 feet.

I must say I have been lucky as well in the past especially with my OG EVO'. They sent brand new ones no questions asked. I didnt have to use Total Protection either for the defects.
I never knew that the purple haze was really an issue. A lot of photos without a quality camera don't work well at night unless you are good at tweaking. Unfortunately mine was getting progressively worse even in good lighting conditions. Sprint will make it right, but it more less a convenience issue. I thought I scored too with the 1.44 Hboot hopefully the next one will have the same Hboot.
I took the firmware update on the defective phone. I get much better battery life on android 4.3 IMO. I wish I could walk in the store and say my phone is tweaked can I get another and call it a day, but being in the discount program with the huge savings I am considered an employee and have to wait for regular or new consumers to get items first.
Thanks for the stories and replies.
So before you ask me this is not my S Pen I saw this on Twitter.
Do you think the Pen just broke like this or was damaged by the user? Has anyone had any issues with their S Pen (such as breaking or the end coming off)?
Uh oh, I sure hope this isn't a common thing. I just started messing around with all the new things the S pen can do. This makes me nerveous to even pull it out.

Not trying to bother anyone I dont believe the Pen just breaks like that and that's why I asked I wanted to know if anyone else experienced issues with a brittle S Pen

didn't want to pass as being harsh but social media as being a source of information should be taken lightly. smear campaigns are common espeatially near launch day.

Again I never said whether it was true or false. I posted it to see if anyone else had similar issues to verify the legitimacy of the post. I did not post it to spread news I posted it to gather information from a wider audience

point taken.
I work in a national carrier phone store, and our demo model Note 9 was installed by our inventory manager. The S-pen broke while she was installing the display, it snapped the clicker off.

How? For that to have happened the S Pen would have had to been sticking out and then obviously of it gets hit it could snap off
Just Happened to me too
Just happened to me too,I can see this happening pretty easily. The end has a very thin plastic housing for a part that gets a moderate amount of tension. Broke off for me with almost no effort. I called Samsung and they denied a replacement since it is physical damage. $50 for a new one.

Uh oh, I sure hope this isn't a common thing. I just started messing around with all the new things the S pen can do. This makes me nerveous to even pull it out.

Pull yourself together for goodness sake! S-pens have been around for years and are well made though like all such tech will break if abused.
Knee jerk reactions to nothing....
Ryland
Might be a very random thing. I have used the spen alot, mainly testing screen protectors and fooling around with the new features. My spen is still solid. I have dropped a few times as well.
Sent from my Samsung SM-N960U1 using XDA Labs
S-Pen is very solid. Our last display for the Note 8, someone snapped the S-pen clicker off that one too. So it's probably just spiteful thing. Customers being customers.
Same thing happened to mine yesterday while I was trying to pull it out of the phone. The rest of the pen got stuck inside the phone. I tried putting the top back on and now it won't pop out at all. Any suggestions on how to get it out? Thinking of leaving in there until I can order another one. Smh.

Update, Samsung offered a free replacement. They sent me a shipping label to return the broken one.
.....Nope
I had several Note devices and not once have I replaced a S pen, I haven't switched out the tip. Not sure how you could damage it anyway besides the obvious. It feels light enough why incredible Hulk it ??
Mine broke after 3 days...
It was a little wobbly out of the box. Didn't think much of it. I've had all Notes since the 2, never had one break on me and used them each for over a year. On day 3 of the Note 9, I was just using my ginger nail to pull it out and it just fell off. Wasn't using much pressure. I take care of my electronics. I went to you YouTube and saw that it had happened to others. One guy stated that he contacted Verizon and they sent him a new one. I called AT&T. It wasn't as easy as his, but after a few trys and calling Samsung directly, AT&T gave me a 50 dollar credit. The actual cost was 54 with taxes, but it was close enough. I'm just worried that this is going to be an ongoing thing. Samsung was great and offered to fix it immediately (they sent a box with return postage) but said the carrier should have fixed it with no issues. So. I called AT&T again and this time they took care of it. They wanted to replace the whole phone, but I didn't want to go through setting it up again and asked for a credit. They agreed and I had a new one in about 4 days or so.
Just happened to me now, device is only 24 hours in hand purchased from Samsung. Anyone else get a free replacement from samsung?
