Hey. I just installed "Jolla Launcher" to my Z3 Compact and rebooted the device. It reboots but is now stuck at "the waves" animation. Tried to reset the phone (physical reset-button and VolUp+Power) but doesn't help. Is it bricked or can I still save it?
you can probably removed the bad app using adb. you will need to know the location and name of the app on your device. otherwise, if you're rooted, you can boot into recovery and factory reset or use flashtool/PC companion to reflash the ROM.

Thanks. Well, I actually tried to flash the ROM with Flashtool. Only problem is, I am not rooted so it failed.
So I think there's not much I can do...?

Flashing rom via flashtool doesn't need root. Install the flashmode drivers from flashtool>drivers. Then open flashtool. Select the ftf. When it prompts you to connect the phone, press and hold vlume down key and connect

Of course, this is the part I can't do since I can't get in to the OS:
Preparation
1) Enable ‘USB debugging’ on your handset: Settings > Developer options
2) Enable ‘Unknown sources’ on your handset: Settings > Security

Geez. My bad I accidentally skipped this step:
"NOTE: If your list of files includes “fwinfo.xml” as highlighted below then manually delete it before continuing to the FlashTool steps. You MUST delete this file otherwise your FTF firmware file will corrupt."
So...everythings OK now.
However, THANK YOU! :good:

Try this THREAD first.
If it doesn't work, you'll have to restore your X8 to it's original state. Follow these instructions STEP BY STEP:
- On your PC, uninstall Sony PC Companion
- Restart your PC
- Reinstall Sony PC Companion by downloading it from here
- Turn off the phone, and unplug it from the PC !
- Turn on Sony PC Companion on your PC
- In PC Companion, enter the Support Zone tab
- Go to Update Phone Software
A window will pop out, saying that it cannot find your phone
- Click on Fix Phone
- Click on Continue
A window will pop out, saying that you will lose all your data
- TICK the BOX
- Click on continue
An update process will began.
Wait for it to show a window with all the SONY mobile phones
- Find your phone (X8)
- Click on the phone.
Now all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions. It will tell you to hold the back button and plug your turned-off X8 to the PC, then it will erase everything, and download the original 2.1 ROM to your X8.
If Sony PC Companion STILL doesn't recognize your X8, then, uninstall it AGAIN, and start the above described process AGAIN. It WILL eventually work!

Hi folks,
I feel like a noob here.
When I have tried to update the phone the new formware I couldnt get into flashmode. This initially did not worry me as I have seen loads of posts about this and I know how to sort it.
I got home from work and unistalled all android software (Fastbbot, adb, sdk, pccompanion, sues) and reinstalled them. I tried again, no luck.
Now i thought i would try my wifes phone. Its not rooted. It went into flashmode straight away, so now I am ata loss.
Flashtool recognises my phone when turned on, it says all drivers are ok, but i get nothing on my phone when i try to connect it turned off...
Now, if anyone wants to help me and call me a noob please do...but this one has me vexed...
EDIT, Dont shout, I have already asked mods to move this to the Q&A section
Probably too much to say that you already tried a hard shutdown?
Else try a stock ROM/kernel. Maybe something went wrong with your current kernel

Look guys, I can get my wife's phone into flash mode and she has an Xperia T, so it is nothing to do with which button I am pressing. I use the same cable and same usb port...
The last time I tried to get into flashmode or fastboot was before Xmas,
It is definitely to do with my phone..I really can't understand why flashmode is not connecting, in previous experience that has worked in all circumstances, but now nothing... Even though flashtool recognises the phone with the correct drivers when it is turned on...

My last guess is it's something in the Rom. Try flashing a 4.0.4 system.sin via fastboot, and access cwm to do factory reset (btw, you did try a different kernel right? You said you did it but wasn't clear of you meant only hard shutdown or kernel too)
My experience is also that it always works. Haven't encountered something like you have before so only shouting some possibilities.
Do say if you already tried something I say ofc.
Something else you can try is different pc (if you have access to one) Have heard of some cases that that did the trick

I can't change kernel because the phone is not entering fast boot mode
I can't flash a stock ftf because the phone is not entering flash mode

I have already done a factory rest.

I cant get into fastboot manually, only by using adb reboot bootloader.
Now the next thing to ask is, well are your volume buttons broke, but no, they work fine to turn the volume up and down with so its not that.
I have just managed to flash a different kernel so will try flash tool again.

Yes, that gets me into fastboot, but i need to get into flashmode to repair the phone.
I am a bit of a nivice at adb
Currently I am charging my phone ready to try a repair. Now I have flashe d another kernel I will give it a go again. If this doesnt work I willflash a stock kernel and try and that...
It's possible to force a full power-off of the phone (not just a three-vibrations one).
I am not keen to post the instructions on the forum, as it isn't the nicest of methods (but it doesn't require you to open the case). PM me if you have no other options (if you can hook onto UART to see what is going wrong, that might be best)

Fastboot -w all
Will wipe data and caches, so should clear what ever is triggering the bypass of flashmode.
If really desperate you can also -w system, but then have no os... Handy if the os is causing the bypass, but not helpful if it's the bootloader..

Reflash stock firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=52630436 useing flashtools http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1943886.
After doing this if you want to put a custom recovery on the phone I would suggest you flash Dooms kernel from here in fastboot mode, you can get it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52653410.
If you then want to re-root the phone flash chainfire's update SU zip from recovery, this can be obtained here: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip, then download the SuperSU app from the google store.
Just a quick note, Dooms kernel only works on stock firmware.

No. I have installed xperia tx drivers
Go to the falshtools folder, in there is a folder named drivers, install the exe, when it prompts you select all the drivers, really can't hurt you.
Open the flashtools application and click on the lighting icon and select fastboot mode, click on browse and direct it to where your downloaded firmware is the select flash, wait for it to prompt you to connect your phone, at this point hold down the vol down button and connect the USB, wait for all to flash then unplug the USB and boot your phone.

Flash a stock FTF, choose to wipe everything.
You do not even need the phone turned on for that
EDIT
The first thing that happens at the service centre is they wipe data anyway. They do that to comply with legal data protection requirements

So I have to:
-install flashtool
-download ftf C6903 14.1.G.1.518 Central Europe 1276-4314_R2A
-copy it to the right folder
-adb reboot fastboot
-flash
Am I correct?
No
Install flashtool (And run the drivers from C:|flashtool\drivers and choose Z1, fastboot and flashmode)
Choose the latest version FTF and put it anywhere convenient on your machine
Turn off phone
Run flashtool, choose the flash icon, navigate to the place you have the FTF, click OK
Ensure you have all options to wipe ticked and nothing ticked to exclude (Default in most cases)
Attach phone in flashmode (Not fastboot) when prompted to by flashtool.
Done
Also, you do not need to do this blind
You can use the SDK (Or other apps like airdroid) to send a screencast to your PC.
You could even mirror your screen to a TV using a HDMI cable etc
Just because the screen is broke does not mean the signal is not being sent....
