UPDATE: At this time Sprint won't activate 32GB N5s, 16GB OKAY.
They won't activate until their launch date, that is if they will even activate play store bought phones at that date.
Thankfully I picked up a tmo pre paid sim so I can use it now.
Screw you Sprint. Please contact customer service and email Sprint exec offices, the more they hear from us the better.
Their willingness to send me a USIM card for free for my Nexus 5 leads me to believe they will activate them.
[07:43:37 PM] me: And to confirm its for the new Nexus 5 please.
[07:43:53 PM] Sprint: Yes, that is what I have.
[07:44:02 PM] me: Ok thank you
[07:44:50 PM] Sprint.: You are welcome, I am almost complete. I have placed the order. Your expected delivery date is....
Now the 8th that might be another story.... I'll have both the card and phone tomorrow, hopefully.
I am on the phone with them now. They seem to be doing it but we are not done yet. The local sprint store was 0 help as they do not stock the Sim cards.
Untrue I got mine activated. But I used the sim from my note 3. And I ordered a sim online.

Did you do it thru the Sprint website? To activate.
Really.... because they flat out said they cant do it period since the N5 isnt in their system.
It's Sprint, if you've been a customer long then you should know YMMV, and you are almost always required to call back multiple times to yield results. While Sprint support has GREATLY improved, it usually takes a few attempts before you reach a technically inclined, competent, and willing representative. IMO and in my experience. :good:
wow, if this is true and they won't activate my phone in store i'll be paying my ETF on the spot to clear my old phone's ESN. (which truthfully is the only reason i wanted to activate the new phone anyway, so i could sell my iPhone to pay for the ETF to go to T-Mobile)
i am not a bit surprised, and won't be surprised if they tell me the same thing tomorrow. ridiculous.
I went through the hole process.
Dear Ben Cantrell,
Thank you for contacting Sprint. It was my pleasure serving you today. We’re so happy you picked us, now we want to make sure you’re happy with this experience.

I called 1-888-226-7212 and selected option 2. That got me through to some one in BusinessECare24. I told her the issue and she was super helpful. She even said she would give me a follow up call after my SIM arrives and make sure i didn't have any other issues.

They cant activate them in stores at all as the stores don't stock the SIM cards. They come with the phones that require them. Per the person i spoke with the stores that will be receiving the Nexus 5 will receive a SIM to go with it.

thanks, good to know. sucks for sprint, looks like i'll just go to the t-mobile store then instead of waiting X number of days for a sim card.
kind of annoying i'll have to wait for my ETF nonsense to settle until my ESN on the old phone clears, but oh well. hello, LTE

So this needs to be handled online or by phone if we purchased from the play store? Ugh I'm more inclined to switch as each day passes...

They better get this fixed. I'd like to know who the Sprint spokesman was that said Google Play customers would have "no problem" activating their phones on Sprints networks. Get the the 32GB IMEI in the system.

They wont have them available until the 8th. As of today the stores i have spoken with they haven't received any yet. They are expecting them tomorrow through the 7th.
got my 16GB nexus 5 that i ordered from the play store activated on sprint today, i started at sprint.com and had to finish the activation process in an online chat with a rep, I am also a sprint employee for any others wondering if you can activate one before it is available for ewd lines, i used a SIM card from a galaxy S4 that was returned to my store that worked fine
I am wanting to buy a moto x but I'm not sure which model. does the unlocked model pick up the same bands as the At&t one? Also, is there a difference between the developer and the unsliced models besides maybe the warranty coverage on the developer model? Thanks!
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Whatever you do, don't get ATT version, bootloader can't be unlocked and as you can see its one of the last to get updates.
You want to get the unlock version (aka T-Mobile version), it will support all the bands ATT required including LTE. The developer version will also work with ATT and support all the same bands as the unlocked version, and it also let you unlock the bootloader without losing your warrenty. The only negative with the dev edition is you can't customise color and it seem to take a little longer to ship.
I think At&T version is also good
Don't get the at&t version. Can't unlock bootloader. Well, there's a way for 40 bucks or so....but it may not last.

You have 2 choices: AT&T model that may or may not have it bootloader unlocked or T-Mobile model (which is what I have on GoPhone). T-Mobile and Developer Edition are the same except warranty.
However, you need to be aware that T-Mobile version is lacking LTE Band 5 that AT&T model has. It seems that AT&T is not using it in USA now but I am not sure and don't know if this will change in the future.

Yes, you can use OTHER variants with the att network that have unlockable bootloaders. But the motox we get from att can not be unlocked. Same thing with the Verizon. Right?

Doesn't matter if unlocked version doesn't support LTE band 5. AT&T is not going to suddenly shut off the other bands and leave a few hundred millions of their users lack of LTE access because they don't have a phone that support it.
AT&T's LTE Advanced allow speed faster than 100mbps use the combination of band 4 and 17, the unlocked version supoprt both bands. I'm not sure if a specific modem or hardware is required for this "carrier aggregation" to work on AT&T though. Base on the specs, the Moto X have dual antenna (MIMO for LTE), so it probably should work with LTE Advanced, I'm not 100%. If it is missing, then as long as you don't need 100mbps+ LTE download speed, it's not too bad. But overall, it's a non-issue with lacking of LTE band 5.

You didn't buy the phone from T-Mobile (they don't directly sell the Moto X anyway), and you didn't buy it from Motorola directly. I think you're out of luck in terms of phone insurance.

I have T-Mobile and replaced a G3 that had insurance with my current moto X. I got a letter in the mail that my insurance coverage would be greatly reduced due to my "non-fully compatible" phone. I don't remember what they said they would still cover or the deductible would be, but it wasn't worth it.

I am looking to purchase an At&t branded N6 for use on Vzw...I've done the research and I know for sure that it will work. I also know that I need to get an unlock code for it to be able to work. What is the quickest way to receive a code without having to pay a fee? Thank you so much for your help.
P.S. The seller inserted a Vzw nano Sim to see what would happen, and it immediately asks for the code...does that mean it's already unlocked n all I need is the code? Or does unlocking and activation all happen in one step once the code is entered?
Its locked my friend but why not by it directly from Motorola or GPS?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Is it true I don't need a code if I root the phone? If so, are there any precautions to take?
No it is the carrier in which you purchased the phone is who locks it. Once the phone is paid in full you simply call your carrier for the unlock code although there are some stipulations to the rule such as you can only unlock two phones with in a six month period.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Yes I know of the stipulations...the phone is paid off, but from what I'm reading it takes a min for att to send the code...
I know it's easy enough to unlock...n I don't have the money to be able to buy outright, spending a few hundred less buying from a seller
N all that is currently available in my area are Att branded N6s lol
And I do already have an active nano Sim, so that makes things easier
By the way, I love Jedi Mind Tricks
all you have to do for them to sim unlock it is pay it off completely then ask tbem to sim unlock it. once its paid off, they have to sim unlock it if you ask.

No. Rooting the phone is not related to, and will not affect the need for carrier unlock.

If you report a phone as stolen, it gets blacklisted. It will not be able to be activated on any carrier in the US.
I am struggling with why you would do this, and also why you would bring this type of question here (rhetorical...).

So it was brand new with all accessories as it was when you originally got your first N6? Reason I'm asking I did an RMA last week Saturday and idiots at tmobile told me it would be used which didn't make sense since I was also told it would be coming directly from Motorola.
