I had filed an insurance claim on my phone. And I just got my new g900a in the mail today. It was shipped with the baseband of

Not trying to mean, but search next time before you ask.
A quick search would have answered your question as NO, as it's been answered here on XDA seemingly a million times. And since this phone is well over a year old, don't count on very many devs to be working on a root for this phone, or even still have this phone. Maybe there will be a root soon, but don't bet on it. Likely it would come from rooting a newer phone, and just so happen that it works for this one too.

I have recently purchased a Nexus One and i must say it is an amazing phone, but also very expensive! I just spent £370 on buying this brand new phone. Which brings me onto my main point, should i risk rooting or not?
I am confident with the rooting proccess and have rooted my hero etc etc, but i was happy to do so because i could also reinstall an official RUU incase something went wrong. However as we know with the N1 its not that simple. I want to be able to use features such as trackball to wake, and using the lights for notifications, being able to install market enabler and apps like autokiller and also being able to theme my nexus - but to do small things like this i still need to root my phone and void my warrenty.
So ive decided to ask you guys on wether you think it is worth my rooting my nexus one, and voiding my warrenty, or making do with no true customisational potential?
(Also silently hopeing someone finds a way to lock the bootloader :'( )
thanks
Just root it already. No regrets. I asked the same question.
But
But what if anything goes wrong with the phone over the next year? Just seems unecassary that i have to loose my warrenty to be able to make small customisations to the phone
I didn't root my phone in the first 5-6 weeks or so then once I had seen there were no obvious hardware faults I rooted it. It might be safe to take a similar approach.
Is totally up to you.. 2 things:
If you are affraid of bricking your phone due to flashing, don't be. Rule of thumb is always do Nandroid. And flash all you want. The exceptions are Radio's which pose higer risks of bricking.
That leaves hardware issues. If your screen cracks, battery explodes or button cease to function, HTC might switch your phone regardless if you have unlocked boot-loader or not. But im not sure how HTC customer service are in UK. People have done it in US and HTC didn't even raised an eyebrow to this.
edit:
like nDrg says, is to roadtest your phone for some weeks, see if no dust crops up under the screen, or other things starts to defect. Errors on new phones usually reveal themselves in the first weeks.
rooted just after 1 day i receive it lol and Froyo inside my nexus one since Yesterday Yes From France ^^
Hmm
Ok thanks for your feedback. I was having a think and i decided to wait untill froyo comes officially to UK, and if thats not good enough to keep me happy then i will root. Thanks
Is it impossible to enable the 3-button download/ recovery mode?
With the vast amount of talent on this forum, why hasn't there been a bounty yet, or am i really late on this.
Official Froyo is coming through very soon. I'm guessing it'll be through Kies.
I've updated firmwares (on a Nokia) through the official way, and it froze mid-way, and then the phone bricked on me.
got the i9000m currently, but its not used on Bell. Have read on this forum, that Samsung doesn't upholds its warranty if you're not using it on Bell.
I'd prefer not to take the chance on a complete dead phone. even if they did warranty it, i'd lose the handset for a couple weeks.
Not officially, since this is just a question thread.
But i'll paypal anybody $75CAD that can enable the 3 buttons through a DUMMIE simple process, before Samsung officially releases a fix for this.
I encourage many others to join, since this is a major issue. i believe some people just one day out of nowhere had a brick galaxy S.
What's the point when Samsung have already stated it will be rectified in the future.
You mean, Samsung Canada Facebook page have said they will rectify it. Still any proof that it is an official Facebook page yet?
$50 from me for a fix.
$100 from me lol
100 from me for a fix

my phone died on me on sunday and after phoning samsung and bell i finally ended up going in to a bell store and they took it in to repair it, i'm not with bell i have it unlocked for telus. I just told them I bought the phone because I have 6 months left with my telus phone and then i'll be transferring to bell so i wanted a bell phone. they took it in no problem
Samsung said they would fix this problem. So devs are probably waiting for Samsung. If they don't I'm sure something will come along in the near future.

The reason I say this is because I've talked to several (read: three) Optus reps in my Country, and none of them have even heard of the issue. This makes me concerned that some facebook page says "all good, we're working on it" but none of the distributors have been given a heads-up officially..
Hey guys,
I've read around a bit but I wanted to just ask the question to get a completely black and white answer. I recently purchased a Moto X through AT&T and without reading the forums first I accepted the OTA.
I understand that as of right now there is no "solid" root method for me. If I had NOT accepted the OTA, is there an easy root method available? Is it permanent?
I'm curious because if it's as simple as me exchanging my Moto X and paying a $35 restocking fee to (hopefully) get one without the OTA, that may be worth it for a quick solution.
If the root method is still shaky even without the OTA that would make my decision easier.
Input? Thanks in advance. :good:
No root for latest version period.

new Moto's are being shipped with the new OTA on ATT at least. You may still get one in store that has not been updated yet but I would check before you pay a restocking fee. The root is stable but moving forward to newer updates and other things is not certain but we have high hopes. Also, if you dont want to pay the restocking fee just take it to the store and complain enough about some warranty issue like the battery drain is bad and you compared it to other devices and something is wrong. I only asked the guy at Vzw for a new phone, told him I toyed with phones and I know this one is bad. He didn't even look at the phone and just sent in a request for a new certfied pre owned replacement or whatever. Which actually fixed the warranty issue I knew I had.
So I just got my second replacement device. The first was acting goofy. I just dropped the second one and cracked the screen...thank god for the one time free screen fix...which is actually just a replacement device mailed to you. The current (cracked screen one) is modded. I have been finding my device doing random reboots or getting laggy.
So on to my question. Which ROM is as factory as possibly but free tethering enabled?
And your replacement has 4.4.4 and you are rooted?
Ugh...I hadn't even turned it on...it's got 5.1. My last replacement device didn't so I'd completely forgotten about that. As far as I know, I'm completely stuck and cannot root this, correct? Think there is any hope of Verizon getting me one without 5.1?

Correct. I've read reports of people getting 5.1 replacements from Verizon as well. Jcase and beaups are supposedly working on updating Sunshine (bootloader unlocker) to support the Turbo, but there hasn't been any news on that in a while. Also, Sunshine needs root access to work, so it wouldn't work on 5.1 unless they also released a new root method. That's the current state of things as far as I know.
Yeah, people who jumped immediately and got replacements when 5.1 first came out in July (finally!) for the XT1254 could get 4.4.4 still on replacement Droid Turbos. But now by mid September... Seems like Verizon has caught up.
That's why I asked if your new replacement XT1254 shipped to you actually still had 4.4.4 (instead of stock 5.1) and you could flash another ROM.
There still may be 4.4.4 Droid Turbo phones out there in Verizon stores with older inventory. But those phones would be given to people who walk in and buy a new phone -- not to customers ordering a replacement phone, which are shipped from Verizon.
And those new phone buyers may not even realize what they have in their hands. First thing they would do is hit the update button.
All that being said though, if you ever get a hold of a 4.4.4 Turbo, I'll send a stock + root + tethering rom your way.
So wait... there's a huge debate in threads talking about being apart of the soak test or even mentioning it exists.. which one side is boiled down to "breaking the manufacturer rules..." but you can literally post a topic about breaking a carrier's rules and i'ts all good? The world is a confusing, confusing place.
FYI, I got a 4.4.4 replacement device yesterday straight from Motorola. Might be worth a shot if you ever need another replacement. My Verizon one also had 5.1. Kind of funny that the manufacturer had the old firmware and Verizon had the latest. I figured Verizon would do everything in their power to revert it to Gingerbread or something

There was that debate here which was hilariously ridiculous, when the head of Motorola software even mentioned the 5.1 soak tests in his blog. Some guy who claims to be a rep for Motorola -- named Moto Mark or something -- was laughed away after that. Basically his boss can shout it from the rooftops to the world, but users can't? Ha.
Well I happened upon an old S8 sitting in a drawer (G950U - Verizon - Android version 9) and am desperately trying to have some fun and root this thing. I cannot for the life of me find a good guide/video that works. Can this phone actually even be rooted? Not sure if anyone will even see this post but figured I'd give it a try. Thx!
I have a verizon s8 too and looking to root also, update here if you find answer!
My wife hates I wont upgrade. My s8 still going g strong (2nd model I got through insurance like 3 years ago).
Anyways, I know that FOREVER we weren't able to root
SM-G950U.
Then a different root came out where it's one you have to do on a PC. They claim the s8 has a 10% brick rate (doing everything correctly)...which steered me away. If I do everything correct I want 0%.
Tonight, I was researching and besides coming across a few posts on here...aupposidly our model is on the list of a 1 click root app.

I will be trying in a few days and will update this thread (and a few older ones I saw people asking in)
