Need help! Screen won't turn on!

So yesterday my toddler son was playing with my Sprint Diamond when I saw him drop it onto the carpeted ground. The phone probably fell maybe about a foot but I guess the angle it hit the ground caused the battery cover to pop off.
When I picked up the phone, I noticed the screen was off and assumed it was in sleep mode because the battery didn't dislodge or anything. But when I pressed the power button, the phone wouldn't come on. I tried pulling the battery, hard resetting, etc but the screen still won't turn on.
While I was playing around with it, holding down the volume down button, power button and enter button at the same time, I could see the screen come on for a bit, then go blank again.
Physically there's no visible damage, there isn't even a scuff or scratch on the corners where the phone probably hit the ground. However, by some freak chance I think the fall caused something to go wrong internally, maybe the LCD digitizer became loose?
When I pull the battery and restart the phone, it vibrates as if it were powering up. But the screen never comes on.
Considering I don't have insurance on the phone, taking it back to Sprint is not an option and I'm out of the warranty period. Has this happened to anyone before? Any advice? Anyone have experience disassembling a Diamond? How hard was it? Thanks in advance.

the diamond (sprint) is a layered device.
you will need some very small screwdrivers lots of light and patience.
the screen is glued to the digitizer and the front housing, removal from the housing WILL crack it.
the boards and lower button pad con be removed safely, for inspection/reseating of plugs.
if the problem is not a loose plug,than a new screen and digitizer is in order and available on ebay from china

Nexus one dead, doesnt turn on, no charging LED, no nothing..

Let me begin by saying that I am an a** for being so careless with my phone(as you will know when you read the rest of this post).
Okay, so two days ago I spilled yoghurt(yeah!) into the USB port of my phone and I didn't take it very seriously and just used a needle to clean it a little. After this my phone worked fine, no problems whatsoever..it was charging fine and running fine.
Today I wanted to connect my phone to my computer, but when I did so, my Windows said that it didn't recognize the device and its probably malfunctioning and I should replace it(probably what I'll have to do now ).
I connected it in every port in my computer, used my dad's blackberry connector, factory reset, even tried eViL's Sense ROM(I had it in my SD card, so tried it).
Even after all the above the computer didn't recognize my phone, although it did charge when connected!
Okay so I thought I should try cleaning the port better, so I took some Isopropyl Alcohol(Second Biggest Mistake) and used a ear bud to clean the port. I connected again and no change, so I decided I'll try later and left my phone in the port.
When I came back 20 minutes later the alcohol had made its way under the right bottom part of the screen and the touch response was messed up. The trackball was constantly glowing red, I fixed the trackball by simply using trackball alert to test a few different colors.
Now I realized I had messed up with the alcohol and I needed to clean the screen somehow(BIGGEST MISTAKE).
I used a hairdryer to blow into the USB port, it dried up some of the alcohol but the screen looked pixelated and the touch response was still screwed.
So then I popped out the screw driver set and started tearing the nexus one down..and from here it was all downhill. I managed to get all the way to the screen, use a lint free cloth to clean the screen and put it all back but all this was of no use. My phone doesn't turn on anymore, all I get is a small vibration on pressing the power button. I connected it to the wall charger and I got the charging LED light and backlight in the touch sensitive button area(great!). I plugged it out and in again and poof the charging LED vanished, no more backlight, no nothing.
What I have tried:
Remove battery and insert
Press volume+up+power > I got a long vibration once with backlight working but never again after that
Let the phone lie for an hour
For those who are lazy to read the whole thread, here is the synopsis:
1) Yoghurt in USB port, left 2 days.
2) No USB mounting, USB charging working.(Tried wiping, reset and different ROM).
3)Cleaned with Isopropyl Alcohol, still no USB > led to distorted screen and touch sensitivity.
4) Used hairdryer, slight effect on alcohol.
5) Persistent Red Trackball light, no effect on restart.
6) Tore down the phone, used lint free cloth to clean the alcohol.
7) Phone doesn't start, only vibrates on pressing power.
8) At first attempt, the backlight for the touch sensitive buttons worked and so did the charging LED, didn't show the light after uplugging.
Now I am lost on what I should do, the phone never had warranty as I am from India and I bought it online. Any suggestions/ideas on what the problem might be?

Just found out that my phone is actually working, but the display isn't. My mom just called me on that number and I somehow managed to pick the phone up and talk with her..any ideas people?

I would have called BS on this story until you used the phrase "my mom".
Anyways, I can't stand people who destroy their phone and then think they should warranty it. Warranties don't work that way. It's dishonest to try and use it for your own mistakes. Your yogurt spill, attempt at cleaning, and disassembling, led to your phone being broken. Purchase a new one and don't do the same thing.

You probably either damaged the screen, damaged the ribbon cable that goes to the screen, or simply didnt connect it right. id take it apart, wiggle around all the connections and clean around them with very diluted alcohol, and wait for it to dry for at least a couple of hours. clean around the port too. Im not sure whats going on with the charge indicator led, or where the connection comes from. Hopefully the phones ability to charge isnt broken, and you left something not connected. Try cleaning and connecting things again, but lettings things dry for a long time first.

I never said I was going to warranty it did I? I wanted to get the fact that I did not have a warranty out so I don't get people telling me that I shouldn't have torn my phone down and instead send it to warranty. How was I supposed to know that the alcohol would make its way under the screen? I specifically used Isopropyl Alcohol because it evaporates fast and it meant for cleaning.
I don't need any bashing from anyone who cant stand what I did, I only wanted suggestions on how I would go about fixing the phone if at all possible.

The phone is actually working now, I am getting phone calls and my notification LED light is also blinking. Only the screen is pitch dark, and as far as I know it doesn't respond to touch. The LED charging light is also working, its only the effing screen

Okay, just tried completely tearing the phone down and cleaning all the contacts. No use, the phone still starts up but is completely blank..maybe the alcohol damaged the AMOLED screen in someway?
I am going to try and contact HTC and see how much repairing this will cost..its probably going to cost me 1/3rd the phones price for everything including the shipping

you said your screen started looking pixelated when you used the hairdryer on it.
that was probably a big mistake and possibly broke your amoled screen.
in any event you really did a lot of things wrong there. it was probably salvageable after the yogurt incident.
for future phones this is what you want to do first thing when any liquid gets on any electronic device. take the battery out right away. if its water or mostly water based liquid then stick it in a bag of rice or other desiccant that will draw the moisture out of it for at least a few days if not a week depending on how wet it got.
for something like yogert in the USB port i would have pulled the battery and cleaned it out of the port with paper towls and toothpicks or similar non conductive material as there can be a residual charge in the device right after the battery is removed or let it sit batteryless for 20 min to make sure all charges have left capacitors and then go at it with something metal carefully.
rubbing alcohol would have been ok to use but only in just enough amounts to get the job done, you obviously did not realize how much you had put in there if it got deeper into the phone before evaporating.
in any event get a new phone and let it be an expensive lesson learned on what not to do

SGS keeps rebooting every 5 seconds. Bricked?

So i was walking home from a party in the rain and i got pretty soaked but i dont think the phone got that wet. Ive had the phone in a cup of dry rice for a few days to try and pull all the water out from the inside.
Now the phone wont boot or stay in download mode.
As soon as i put the battery in it boots, no pushing of the power button. The black and white "samsung galaxy s" comes up for a few seconds then the phone restarts. It never gets further than the first boot screen.
I can enter download mode but it only stays there for a ~5 seconds before restarting. I've tried reflashing the kernel and bootloaders (dangerous i know) in this short window but it hasnt helped, despite the flashing succeeding.
I was running MIUI

Turning it on was a bad idea.
Okay so go get yourself a Philips scree driver and opening tool( normal dinner knife will do)
Take off battery cover
Take out battery,sim card,SD card.
Unscrew the 7 small screws on the back.
Pull back plate off ( use opening tool to slip between bezel and back plate.
Once this is off check the 3 flex connectors on the board.
One on top for audio
One on left for display
One on bottom for buttons.
Make sure no signs of liquid.
Also a good plan pop down to your local tech store and get some ipa and pour that all over the board to remove any excess crap.
Rebuild and pray. Or if blackpool area pop and see me. On.phone so can't see location.

In my case long washing mainboard in isopropanol helped (gt s8530 threw into deep water for few seconds), altough got still problems with microphone circuits, gonna give it a try with ultrasonic bathing. It may be horrifying to think about diving mainboard of phone to liquid, but if it is pure iso it wont damage anything (onboard, it will most likely wash off all labels, ink printed texts, and glue)

[Q] xperia z mobo replace/water damage

hey guys here is a story
so i removed my xperias factory screen protector (because of a major scratch on it) and it left some
residue on the screen. so i started washing it off in the sink w/soap and water. although after i finished i dried it off and
noticed that the water enter the ports (headphone and charger) because the rubber bits were broken. (so i thought it cant be that bad i
took a shower with my one s multiple times and it didn't fritz up or anything) then i noticed my back light flickered and i
thought this is bad so i proceed to turn it off but it wouldn't stay off (it practically boot looped several times) then it finally
turned off then i placed my charger in just to see what would happen it had a red led w/ 3 vibrates after a bit i
blow dried it with a hair dryer and sucking and blowing my device like CPR and finally burred it in rice (what i should of done
before) and left it over night then i woke up plunged it in the charger and my screen had water and my lock
button doesn't work although it seams everything else works (i think the usb is buggy)
although i think im going to have to buy a new button thinginy and i was also wondering if i replace my mobo with a 6603 because i have a locked tmous version. could everything run normally and have an unlocked boot loader?

You water damaged your phone, so you will have to replace more than the "button thinginy".
You will be better of just buying a new phone, as the cost of all the parts you need will be in excess of buying a new one.

honestly for all the trouble of finding a motherboard, disassembling your device to fix it DIY, you might mess it up and it might cost you more.
unless you REALLY know what you are doing and have NOTHINg to lose, just send it in for repairs. or just buy a new phone.

you two are probably right about not taking the risk although I did find out I have a faulty battery and the buttons I found out that the volume up key took the place of the power button (it can only wake the phone) and it also does it's normal duties
I'm going to do a change log soon (yes a change log) on my phones states for any solutions

Red LED flashing: bootloader bricked, hardware fault, or a write-off

Hi all,
Last weekend I tried to fix the GPS on my Xperia Z (C6603) - it couldn't lock any satellite and according to all tests it was a hardware problem. When I opened the back cover I saw that the GPS antenna wasn't securely attached anymore (thanks to the third party who replaced my screen last summer I guess). While I was at it, I also wanted to check the speaker since the volume is generally quite low. Doing so I had some difficulty getting the battery out but it didn't look like anything was damaged by it.
I fixed the GPS antenna and reassembled the phone, but now it won't boot anymore...
When I try to boot it the LED blinks red three times and then stops. Nothing more. It only seldomly responds to a cold reset (vol up + power for 10 sec.) but mostly not. When I connect it to the wall socket or laptop the LED burns red continuously.
When I opened the phone I still had about 70% battery left so that should be fine. Nevertheless I've had it on a charger overnight (LED continuously red) and tried the next morning without success.
What I have found is that the red LED indicates either a broken bootloader or a hardware fault. Since it occurred after I opened the phone I would assume the latter.
I have managed to do a repair through the PC Companion software but without result. I can still get the phone in fastboot (LED turns blue) connected to my laptop to flash. The screen doesn't turn on, though I'm not sure if it should? I'm also not sure if being able to connect in fastboot excludes hardware failure?
I haven't tried to root/flash because I first want to ask for some advice on a more systematic approach to fixing it. Also, tonight I will pick up a friend's Xperia Z with a broken screen for spare parts (same model, he got it one month later). So except for the screen I have working replacement parts. Besides the screen replacement (with original Sony parts) the phone was still in original state both in hard- and software.
I would really like to fix the phone since I liked it and I'm stuck to a SIM-only plan until December still. Third-party repair is out of the question because of costs; then I'd rather spend it on a new XZ5.
Any ideas on how I should approach this?

After some trial and error, I have managed to flash a stock ROM (.253) on it. No luck with that unfortunately. When I try to turn it on, there is a small vibration after a few seconds and that's it. Again the phone responds to a cold reset, but when I try to boot it after the LED blinks red three times again. That's all it does.
I would say the only thing to still try now is swapping the motherboard with the other phone, not? Or are there any other suggestions?

Well, I would assume that it is a hardware problem, especially taking in to the account that you touched components inside.
Even if we all know how phone work, and where are all components are, its not recommended to touch anything inside if you dont have steady hand and environment to make any repair(clean place, no humidity, clean hands).
One bad plugged connector can brick your phone. One time I even had problem on other phone with really small rust on one pin that I touched with finger(sweat from it+time+really crappy weather where I had to use it), so it show how actually fragile phones are.
But few questions, when you managed to flash rom, you get all that android logo when you are in flashmode, and it show everything(loading bar etc) on screen?
Im asking because first symptom of bad battery connection is deformed or totally dead screen.
When you fixed gps antenna(that black plastic on top near camera) you used any tool that could damage board? its near microUSB so its easy to mess those small pins and make short circuit.

Before changing motherboard I would replace battery from your other phone(charged before that) and check all pins on connector and board near it if there is any problem.
But as I said it should be made really delicate and in appropriate conditions.
Sadly I cant really help with it beside that, and I hope your phone gonna stand up after that somehow :/

Thanks for the reply Akinaro. Indeed the conditions are not ideal. At least I have one of those repair tool kits with the small screwdrivers, plastic pick and plastic levers for the connectors. I'll also set a reminder to take some latex/nitril gloves from the lab for next time

No, the screen is totally dead. No sign of life whatsoever.

Possibly. I have used both the screwdriver and the plastic tools, but fiddling everything back in was tricky. The battery was disconnected though so it shouldn't have short-circuited. I will try with moving around the battery. But the more I think of it, the more I start thinking that I screwed up the motherboard by touching something there.
Before changing motherboard I would replace battery from your other phone(charged before that) and check all pins on connector and board near it if there is any problem.
But as I said it should be made really delicate and in appropriate conditions.

I have tried the other battery last night as well. I didn't charge it first though, I left it in my phone to charge overnight and tried to boot it this morning, without result.

So I've attempted to swap the motherboards. Good and bad news...
The good news is that the spare phone works with every combination of motherboard and battery, so neither of those is the culprit. The bad news: none of the combinations work on my own phone, even with swapping all the other hardware components (camera's, gps, antenna etc.).
On the other hand, by now the LED doesn't turn red anymore. The phone just stays completely off. I didn't have time to try and charge it for some time though, so I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad sign.
I fear that the main multiconnector running under the battery might be damaged when I took out the battery and antenna module the first time. That is the only component that I cannot swap for it is so integrated - it would mean swapping the screen to the spare-parts-phone and using that one.
Any ideas still before I should consider it a write-off completely?
