So, somehow or another, my charging port got wet. I checked the white pads on the battery, and the inside of the case, and they are still white. Not a spec of red.
Upon looking in my charging port, it's obvious that there is a corrosion issue. I had noticed that sometimes my phone didn't "charge" immediately when i plugged it in.
I tried heeking it up to my Windows 7 x64 PC, (with all drivers installed, regularly working), and sudden it could "not install or recognize device". Now it's not charging.
This Sucks.
I would love everyone for any help they may provide.
Thanks in advance.

Quick update. I removed the battery, then slightly sanded the contacts with a pice of super fine grit sandpaper. After this, i used a q-tip and cleaned it out with rubbing alcohol.
After waiting about 10 minutes, i plugged everything back in, and now it's charging, but still won't be recognized.
Just an update.
I'm waiting on hurricaine Earl to smash into me (I live on the Outer Banks Of NC), and I think it would be nice to have at least a charging phone
A pencil eraser is a safer alternative then sandbpaper. But if the corosion is deep into the socket, it is going to be tough.
You don't really have time now, but there are external chargers for batteries.
Well, it charges solidly now, but I can't seem to get even the slightest USB connection. Plus, the port being so small, i can't get any erasers inside.
Any more ideas?
I know some electronics stores (fry's) sell some type of liquid you can use to remove corrosion from electronics. I have not tried, but it may work. RadioShack may have something but they seem to suck for everything these days - so you may have to look in the phonebook for electronics.
Hello everyone,
In the past week, I have decided to sell off my Nexus 4, and I went on to buy a new cheap unlocked 40$ android phone and a used water damaged Xperia Z.
I had just got the Xperia Z a few hours ago, and the guy who I bought the Z from, said a bit of water leaked into the phone about 2 weeks ago, and ever since then the phone does not turn on.
So far I have pretty much disassembled the whole thing, and noticed that all three water indicator stickers at the ports have turned red.
But I seriously cant find any water, damage or corrosion on the phone's connectors, internal frame, battery connectors, anywhere.
I guess only a few drops has entered the phone and over time the water evaporated.
Now after drying the internal components in the sun, and using 70% isopropyl wipes (I looked everywhere for 99% isopeopyl Alcohol liquid, I cant find them everywhere) I wiped it over the phone's motherboard and then used a toothbrush to remove any dirt or corrosion building up in the board.
Now the thing is that the phone does not do anything when I plug in the charger.
But when I remove the battery, and plug in the charger, and press the power button, the phone's LED blinks red for about half a second, then vibrates once and then a blue LED light comes and stays on. However nothing comes up on the screen.
I tried the Power button and Vol.Up button, but it does not do anything.
The Z's battery seems fine, as I tried it out on my Xperia C and it works perfectly there.
And I tried the Xperia C's battery on the Z. Same thing no response from the phone
What should I do?
I guess look around or a 99% alcohol solution and properly wash the Z's motherboard?
Or is this some sort of a software issue?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

To me it rather looks like the seller modified the software and hard bricked the device... My Xperia T had the same sympoms when it was hard bricked....
I would have thought the battery had shorted out
Bang a replacement in

Every fault is not caused by a faulty battery. I know you fixed your phone with a replacement battery, but that is not the solution to everything.
If you had read his post properly, you would see the battery powers another device just fine. A shorted battery would surely not function at all.

Well today, I bought some distilled water and washed the phones motherboard with a toothbrush to displace any particles left on the board.
Now When I plug in the charger (with out the battery, as the phone does nothing with the battery plugged in) the phones LED blinks red and the phone vibrates once. It then goes on to repeat this process over and over again.
But my computer kinda detects my phone, as it tries to install the phones drivers. If I remember correctly the devices name on my computer is 'S1 FlashBoot'
But for the computer and Sony PC Companion to detect my phone, I have to remove the battery ribbon to let the phone start up on USB power, and then reinsert the battery ribbon when the phone vibrates and flashes its LED once, and then I have to remove the Button ribbon since, for some reason if the button ribbon and the battery ribbon is connected at the same time the phone shuts off.
Sony's PC software detects my phone, but since I cant press the power button due to the removal of the button ribbon from the motherboard, I cant repair my phone using the software.
Maybe theres something wrong with the power button/ribbon is having a few issues?
I also found some corrosion bottom right hand corner under the network antenna, and a severely corroded 3 segment ribbon, where 2 out of 3 segments were non functional due to corrosion,. As I tried to open the connector, I sneezed and accidentally ripped it.
Dammit.
It didn't work before I ripped it, so I wonder if I somehow fix this ribbon would it help solve a few of the above issues with my phone?
What does this small dinky ribbon do, anyways?

Found this post through google while looking for a solution for my Xperia Z.
My first experia also had the same problem, sort of. The battery would jump from 90% to 60%, then 73%, then 20%, then 71% and so forth.
I decided to update the system software, to which it turned off during the process. The OS became faulty, and it rebooted all the time, showing a weak red light, then a strong red light, turn on, turn off and so on. The authorized service replaced my battery, but I guess that's not your problem in this case, and I doubt it that it's a faulty OS. Because even with a faulty OS, it would atleast show the Sony or Xperia logo.
Now I have the same starting issues and I blame the ribbons I guess, since when I press it the right way, it suddenly accepts charge and boots up. Replace the ribbons, and you might be fine. Guess there's some short circuit.
I accidentally dropped my very new Z3C in the bathroom [slid off the shelf]. As it hit the wet floor, the flap covering the USB and MicroSD slots opened up. Unfortunately, as I (clumsily) picked up the phone with my still wet hands I think I let in a couple of droplets of water inside. The water damage strip below the SD card slot turned pink, indicating water ingress. I turned the phone off (not immediately, but after 5-10 mins) and left the phone unused for a day and a half.
Now, I am able to charge the phone normally using a magnetic cable. Post charging, the phone is working normally. So basic functionality is back.
However, I ended up with the following problems -
1. USB Charging not working -
I'm not able to charge the phone with a USB charger - there is no charging indication on the phone when I plug in the charger at all.
To check this further, I fully drained the phone battery and tried charging with a USB charger. When I plug in a USB charger, the red charging light comes on for a minute or so, and the display shows an empty battery symbol with 1% charge. As the phone charging crosses the 1% threshold, the phone begins to start-up. From this point onward, the battery charging stops. The red LED light turns off and charging stops.
So, the USB port is physically working (and hence the red LED initially), but the phone stops accepting charge as soon as the phone boots. Could there be a software "fuse" or something which is shutting down the USB module after detecting some water damage?
2. Computer not recognizing phone connected with USB cable
The computer is not recognizing the phone when I try to connect it with a USB cable. It is as though I haven't connected any device at all - no pop-up / indication either on the phone or on the computer.
3. MicroSD cards are not working
As soon as the phone fell (and got wet), I remember that a message popped up on screen saying that the microSD card has been removed. After this, I removed the MicroSD card when I shut down the phone post the accident. Now, any microSD card I try isn't being recognized by the phone.
I took the phone to the Sony Service center, but they refused to repair it under warranty since the phone was "water damaged". With a very superficial examination, they decreed that the motherboard has to be replaced, which would cost > 80% of the phone's cost. With this, I don't see any value in approaching the Sony service center.
The way I see it, the damage appears to be minor - apart from the SD slot and the USB port, everything else is working normally. "Conceptually", I feel there should be a relatively inexpensive way to fix this [of course, this is more optimism speaking]. However, I don't know how to proceed from here. Any thoughts or ideas for fixing the phone would be extremely helpful.
I'm based in Bangalore, India. Any suggestions on mobile repair centers who might actually take a look at the phone would also be helpful.
Did you find a fix for this? I have the exact same problem.
nothing you can do except send to a third party repair centre tbh
I used a hair dryer and dryed it and it charges fine now. Only problem is notification light is only red and green.. no other colors..

Hi there. I had moto g 2 non lte this year. Sometime around spring of this year, i was on a vacation. While on vacation, I dropped my moto g and my bag into a river and thought i would never see it again.
A few days ago, the authorities said they had found my bag with all my possesions and my moto g. they shipped them to me.
I would like to know if there is any chance of recovering my device? So far, I've opened the back cover and saw it was covered in water. Some parts were also rusted. The display has weird purple blotches around the edge. I have tried to power on or charge the device. I have put the device in a bag of rice and put it in a warm area of my house.
Will I need to swap out any parts? Where could I find parts? I'm willing to replace parts. Also, where could I find instructions for replacing parts?
Thanks.
After sitting in water that long I'd be surprised it it ever came back from the dead. Also the worst thing you can do is to power on a wet phone. I would guess that you have some rust on the board, plus in the usb and earphone holes. I personally think the parts would exceed the value of the phone.
Hi there. I've opened up the main board, and I have not tried power it on. I've removed the battery, sim card, and buttons. The main bored appears corroded and I dried it off. If I dip it in 91% isoploryl alcohol, would it remove corrosion? I also saw corrosion in the ports. If I remove all the corrosion and water, logically the device would work again, right?
Anything is possible, you can also put a wet device in a bag of uncooked rice if no type of desiccant or silica powder is available. That will absorb moisture from places you can't see. As for alcohol, alcohol is a solvent and can dissolve the internal adhesives. If it was salt water, that's even worse since it dries and leaves crystals behind. I'll be shocked if you get it working completely after soaking in water. I'm surprised the sim card didn't get ruined.

At this point in time, I really don't care if the son card works or not. I just want to get to the point where I can power the device on and charge. I be read online in many places people suggested to dip your device in 91% isopropyl alcohol. Where can I get this alcohol and how much would it be? I have placed the device in a paper towel and put on top of a heating vent in my house. I'll see if that does anything.
That's regular alcohol that's sold at any drugstore or store that sells first aid stuff. You can buy it in different percentages of strength.

OH MY GOD. I CLEANED OUT THE INTERNALS, REMOVED ALL THE CORROSION I COULD WITH A TOOTHBRUSH, THEN SCREWED THE THING BACK TOGETHER. THEN I PLUGGED IT IN, AND GUESS WHAT, THERE ARE SIGNS OF LIFE!!!! The boot screen blinks for one second and goes away. There is a white led that constantly flashes. The device shows 0% charging. I have tried to boot it into recovery but the device keeps bootlooping. It turns on by itself, blinks white led, shows motorola screen, shuts off then repeats the process. I'll leave it to charge and see what happens.
Okay so maybe I reacted too quickly. I'm trying to get the device working. So far, I can boot it into fast boot mode and no further. My computer recognizes the device and can perform fast boot operations. I have tried to flash the stock firmware but the device reports error low battery remote failure on some operations. The device still does not boot. I plugged in the device for about an hour, but the second I take it off the charger, it cannot function. The device still is boot looping when it's plugged in. What should I do now?
Make absolutely sure there is no corrosion in the USB plug. After that, I don't have any ideas, something in the charge circuit has a problem or something between the battery and board.

I can't seem to remove the corrosion in the USB plug. Besides, I can plug my device into the wall or the computer and at least has limited function, however removing the plug will cause the device to loose power. The device shows up on my pc and I tried writing the factory image but the device is still in it's weird bootloop. My computer just keeps playing the USB disconnected and connected sound everytime the device does the bootloop. If I boot into fastvoor I can moto device manager to show and it says fastboot falcon s
That may be part of your problem. The corrosion in the plug could cause most of your problem. That port only costs 50 cents US, but I believe its tightly soldered in and if that's the case it would be very hard to replace without a special soldering gun.

Probabily your battery is dead
So, my Z1 is more than 3 years old and I already changed it's battery, which means that it was opened before and probably is no longer waterproof. So, I went to the beach and used a waterproof bag (what was supposed to be a waterproof bag) with the phone inside. I had tested it some times and it worked, everything inside remained dry. But on my second day using it with the phone inside ssome beach water went in and it was enough to brick my phone.
The day before this I got a number of a girl I met, but didn`t made any backup, so it is possible to get my contact list of a watered bricked phone? I don't even want to get the phone back, just the contact list... The phone doesn't turn on, when I plug the charge the red led turns on and stay on. Can't enter in fastboot or flashmode, hrd reset doesn't work. I already opened it and dried its inside and left it ona a closed bag full of rice for more than 1 day.
Tried the hard brick fix but I just can't make the test point thing wrk, computer won't recognize the SEMC DEVICE.
I don't know what else can I do, I just want my contact list, there is any way to solve tis, maybe some software?
PLease help!
Dry phone with rice or silica gel, and plug it in wall charger to charge phone, mabye the battery is drained and go to Sony PC Companion and start software update. That could help to unbrick phone. For contacts try using Google accounts if your phone did back up automaticly.
